We booked for a family Sunday lunch, when calling to book there were a lot of hums and ha’s making it sound really difficult to take our booking. The staff looked as though it was dress-down Sunday. The food was well presented and tasty but very expensive for what it was.

We had our first visit to The Lawns on Sunday afternoon. We found the service to be excellent. The starters were delicious. Husband had roast turkey for his main course and loved it.I had roast beef and although the vegetables were fine, the yorkshire pudding was very dry.My main issue was the roast beef which was very, very rare. In fact,it was so rare I couldn’t eat it and wrapped it up in a napkin to take home to the dog. The Lawns is very welcoming and would return on a different day.

This is now our “go to” restaurant in Holt. Relaxed, friendly, welcoming and good value. It’s been done up in the last year or so and they’ve done a terrific job. Great ambience and a lovely place to sit, relax and enjoy a nice meal. Food is top drawer. Lovely beer garden as well when the weather allows. Dog friendly and our labradoodle is always made to feel welcome.

We have stayed here three separate times now, just for one night. The first few times in room 10 which is outside in the garden. It's a king size/twin and the third time in the house in room 3 a small double. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable. We particularly like late check it at 11am and early check in at 2pm. There is a good size car park and a nice sunny garden. Staff are laid back, friendly and helpful. We ate here on two evenings, food is good and reasonably priced. We would definitely stay here again as it suits our needs well. It's in a perfect location in Holt

I visited in a family group. The positives were that they made a gesture for the occasion and responded to requests and complaints, but there were unfortunately far too many negatives. My starter of Cajun prawns was indeed spicy, as promised, but the spices were burnt, the prawns overcooked in a glutinous sauce and, bizarrely, served on toast. I hoped for better with my main of 12 hour braised beef rib, but no such luck. I know beef ribs can be fatty, but these were excessively so and not a good cut. The art of cooking fatty ribs is to ensure that there is sufficient heat at some point in the process to render down the fat, but these had just been braised leaving a large soggy mass of fat, which I removed and transferred to a plate which unfortunately remained on the table throughout dessert until I asked for it to be removed. But the tiny amount of lean beef did taste good! Sadly, neither my wife's lamb nor the cheeseboard impressed, and I feel £27 for a very ordinary Merlot is a bit much. I appreciate that there were staffing problems on the night we visited, but hope our experience is not typical.

I tried to get a drink in the beer garden but before I even spoke to ask what the mask policy was , I was told that I HAD to have a mask on or I could go no further by the lady at the reception desk, this was the only time whilst I was in Holt that we felt very unwelcome so we left and won't be back, she needs some serious retraining, no wonder most of the outside tables were empty on a warm day, went down the road to the Kings Head instead and had a great lunch and drinks in a much friendlier establishment.

Booked Sunday dinner on recent visit to Holt. Food was good, service was friendly though a little disorganised. I think they may have had staffing issues on the day probably down to pandemic as public bar was closed. Nice garden area inside also looked pleasant.

Great meal and service. We hadn’t been to the lawns since it’s upgrade and was pleasantly surprised with the difference. It really is much nicer with the restaurant being bar free! The food was excellent, I had the lamb rump which was cooked to perfection, could have had a little more accompaniments. My other half had the rump steak, again cooked as asked for and not a small meal. We both had fresh cooked donuts which were FAB….. The young ladies serving were efficient and friendly. I have 2 criticisms which haven’t stopped me giving the 5/5 rating but would in the future. 1) the Adnams broadside tasted as though it’d had been served out of the drip tray - it’s keg beer how does this happen? 2) keeping the empty kegs by the front gate is really poor - you have a lovely building with a whole load of crap outside the front? First impressions and all that, it looks terrible….. That said the Lawns is our closest Holt Eatery and we’re really gunning for your success.

When we arrived at the restaurant I was a little surprised to find a group of men smoking at the entrance, a little off putting for a family meal. Once inside we waited a couple of minutes to be seated. While waiting I noticed a large group of at least 10 people sat having drinks. A couple then walked in behind us as joined them, making their group even bigger! I’m guessing they were all local but was not a great first impression given the current covid situation. Once we were in the bar/restaurant area the tables were well spaced out so we were happy to continue with our reservation. The service was a little slow but it was a Friday evening and they seemed quite busy. The food came out in good time and eveything was tasty, I would definitely recommend the beef brisket which was delicious. We could not fault the food but the service was a little lacking. If we were to come back, I don’t think it will be over the weekend. One thing I would highlight to anyone looking to make a booking with children, the kids menu is £8 and does not include a drink or dessert, it is purely just a main meal. We were told that they could make a smaller version from the standard dessert menu but were given a full size one & charged the full amount too. Shame!!

Clean and tidy. Great staff (welcoming and relaxed). Good choice on all menus although sometimes food didn't meet expectations (prawn starter). Only problem booked two rooms asking for the same, but one room didn't have the same facilities, but charged at the same price. Reason given was one had a cancellation option and one didn't, we did not request this however.

Struggling to find a restaurant in a Monday night we came across The Lawns. Looked good from outside but the interior was rather lack lustre. Despite this the food was excellent. The best Ham Hock I’ve ever had. My wife has some nibbles to start which again were great. Seabass for main was also excellent and certainly looked the part. My wife’s chicken Caesar salad was also great quality it we did have a little hick up with that. This was quickly resolved and a plate of out-of-this-world petit fours deserts were provided as an apology. Great food. Would go back and would recommend.

At fairly short notice we managed to get a table for two at 8:30pm on a Tuesday evening during the eat out to help out offer. We arrived on time and were met by a rather dour person (owner/restaurant manager?) who spent more time looking at his till/tablet to check our previously confirmed booking than welcoming us. Kind of set the tone for the evening. He showed us to our table and said a menu would be over straight away. 10 minutes later we had to ask for a menu from an equally disinterested member of staff who gave us 2 minutes to make our selection. We sent her away while we chose and had to summon her back to take our order. Our food arrived quite quickly and was really, really good. We both had fish which was cooked to perfection and the sauces and vegetables were delicious. We ordered cheese and biscuits from a young man who was the opposite of the previous waiting staff. After finishing our pud we had to go and ask for the bill from the owner/restaurant manager was pouring over the till/tablet and I had to wait several minutes before the bill appeared. We paid it and upon leaving had to pass the till/tablet area where he was still so engrossed in the electronics we had to say good evening and good bye to attract his attention. We are experienced reviewers and were very pleased with the quality of the food - no complaints. However, the service was, largely, appalling and very disappointing. The £20 off the meal just about made up for our experience.

Took my son and his fiancee for to celebrate the ease of lockdown and being able to spend time together. Table booked in advance. When we arrived we stood for quite a while being ignored by the staff, even the girl behind the bar, who granted was making up some drinks didn't glance up to say someone would be with us soon. When we were seated the food was excellent but again not very attentive staff, at the end we were the only ones left but it took ages to get the attention of the staff from their conversations to get the bill and then to be able to pay. Overall lovely, reasonably priced food but not the most attentive staff.

We decided on the lawns as all 4 of us are local form Holt but hadn't eaten there for quite a while. The food was absolutely delicious. 3 of us had the prawn starter and the other had the hallumi cheese. Each of us left our plates empty!!!For the main course we all had different dishes one had the sea bass an other fish and chips the third ham hock (another appetiser) and I had the lamb. All was excellent. My lamb was wonderful. When it came to desert I had the sticky toffee pudding and the other ice cream. My sticky toffee pudding was EXCELLENT.We had a bottle of savignon blanc which was nice but the red malbec from Argentica was one of the best wines I have had a restaurant in a very long time. I love my wine and this is one that I would always select again. In was a 2018 so still young but amazing.I can withour a doubt recommend the food 10/10.

We arrived at The Lawns Wine Bar & Restaurant on a wet August evening without a reservation during the busy Eat Out To Help Out scheme. Explaining to the bartender and his manager that our original plans for the evening had been altered at the last moment, they listened sympathetically and found us a table within a few minutes. A drinks order arrived quickly and our dinner order was taken promptly, and service began shortly afterwards. The starter of root vegetable soup was very good, the following mains of beer battered cod and chips were excellent. Our evening had started off disappointingly but was saved by the staff of The Lawns providing an excellent level of service matched by the quality of the food - thank you. Highly recommend.

We were looking for a warm welcome on a rainy lunchtime , but found a very Luke warm reception from bar staff. We arrived close to the end of service, we were ushered to the conservatory with our dogs (fair enough) and after ordering at the bar we had our drinks and food delivered in good time. Our sandwiches were OK but ham egg and chips with under cooked chips, poor ham and over cooked eggs, not great.. We received no check backs, in fact the staff seemed annoyed or at best bored by us, and any attempts at customer service were forced. We were chatty and polite, asking for the bill we were told that it was at the end of the bar, again no service quality. We paid and for the first time in years did not tip. Please guys, be engaging and not annoyed and bored, or don’t work in hospitality (we do so we know)

Took an hour and a half to get food which was only ok when we finally got it.They did apologise for wait saying they were busy. We were the only ones in the restaurant! The situation could easily have been ameliorated with a free drink, nibbles, dessert, coffee . We got out as soon as we could. Told no manager to talk to. Booked table in restaurant with friends. Only 1 option on specials board and menu was different to the one on website. One friend chose fish and chips and myself and my other friend chose Hake with crispy herb crumb, tomatoes, corgette and scalloped potatoes. Neither of us are big eaters but were both left feeling hungry! I kid you not I had just 2 pieces of thinly sliced potato the size of a ten pence piece, 1 slice of corgette, a small piece of fish about the size of a fish finger and several chunks of different coloured tomatoes with a few hard peas for which we paid £16.00. Not worth it! My friend gave up on having a dessert as they didn't have the sorbet she liked. Eton Mess was lovely. Only one dessert but two were put on the bill. Such a shame as it's a lovely place. By the time we ate at The Lawns we knew that interesting, well cooked and well presented food was not really available in Holt so expectations were low. We chose not to eat in the formal restaurant but out in the bar area. Others were having food in the pleasant garden. I started with mushroom soup with truffle oil and my husband had something with crab, can't remember quite what. My soup was very tasty although the texture resembled a thin porridge rather than soup. Excellent taste though. I decided to have two starters instead of a main and went on to eat 2 fresh sardines on granary toast, my husband having chicken breast with leeks in a cream sauce with black pudding, which he declared very good. We didn't have a dessert but did polish off a bottle of decent Merlot. We enjoyed the convivial approach of 'the host' who added to the friendly atmosphere of this small hotel. Well furnished room, with a bath and overbath shower in the en suite, no shower screen or curtains so couldn't shower very easily. This is our first visit to this hotel, we went for a long weekend to celebrate my husbands birthday, we loved it, there wasn't anything to dislike, our room was lovely, breakfast was great and we ate there a couple of evenings and the food was lovely, also the staff were really friendly and welcoming, we're already planning to go back next year.

We went for dinner for the first time having been recommended by friendswe were not disappointed by the warmth of the bar area and that we could enjoy a meal there, without sitting in the more formal restaurant areaWe enjoyed an entrée of olives , dips and bread sticks, and a main of freshly cooked fish in a very light beer batter - thankfully not at all greasy - so very satisfied with the foodService was excellent and staff welcoming - as too were the other guests in the bar area, whom we chatted to about the Norfol;k areaUnfortunately, as I have found now in most places , the cost of a wine is just too expensive - mark ups are far too high - but a pleasant place to enjoy a meal

We stayed at the hotel and used the bar one night after dinner. The bar itself is not the biggest however there is a lounge area which was not too busy so we got comfy on the sofa's. There was a great selection of beers, including locally brewed beers. The staff were very helpful and very friendly which made the evening that much nicer.

We enjoyed a very nice meal here during the 1949s weekend. They had a special menu but we all ate from the normal one (would have liked to try spam fritters, but not as a main!) I had the burger, which was great. Someone had steak, which was well cooked, but not much taste, but that can be the way with steak. The waitress was very efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. Would definitely eat here again.

Have long since been disappointed with restaurants and pubs in Holt the The Lawns have risen to be by far the best restaurant in the town. Good friendly service and really tasty great food reasonably priced. Brilliant well done The Lawns.

Really tasty, well presented food. Would have given an excellent had I been able to taste the cajun on the cajun chicken I ordered. My wife really enjoyed her fish cakes. Chips made from sweet potatoes were different and less fattening

Car parking was a bit tight but OK. After being welcomed and shown to our table, we were left alone to pick our meal choices and not constantly bothered with fake 'bonhomie', Choice was wide and on arrival, excellent. Not a restaurant to go to because it's late or you cant be bothered to cook - definitely one for occasions.

Went here for my friends wedding. Hotel, staff and food were great. No one warned us about the taxi service. When we left our friends wedding reception at 11 we couldn't get a single taxi as they were all "fully booked". Our hotel was a mile away and our friends hotel was 6 miles away. Resulting us to walk back to our hotel down dark country lanes which was very dangerous. We also walked past an empty taxi that could have probably dropped us that little further back. The next morning we tried to call a taxi for our friends to go back to their hotel and they said it was too far to drive 6 miles home. Very unhelpful and inconsiderate taxi companies who aren't at all bothered by people's health and safety.

We visited The Lawns for a get together after my father-in-laws funeral. We were all made very welcome by the staff, there was a lovely buffet and endless supply of tea & coffee also a lovely bar. A few of us stayed the night, the rooms were very homely with tea, coffee, hot chocolate & bottled water. The breakfast was freshly cooked & plenty of it. We all said we would deffinately return . All in all it made a very sad occasion a pleasant day well done to all the staff.

This is a lovely place, nice decour, reasonable menu, good food, wine is a little pricey, it would be 5 STAR with exception of the staff being a little detached from the customer, there is no eye contact with customers, the response to requests is a bit slow, even when staff were standing doing little or nothing, it was hard to get their attention. We had a lovely meal, again a little slow, we attended on a friday evening in February, there was 6-8 people at the bar, plus 3 tables of people, we were 6 people at a table eating and only one other table was eating throughout our evening there.

We descended on this restaurant after visiting an Antiques Event at Voewood House in Holt. The venue is very pleasant, warm and welcoming. We ordered the 'half chicken x 2 and the Korma. When the chicken arrived, it was quite an unpleasant anaemic colour of grey and my first worry was 'is it cooked'. Surprisingly it was cooked well all the way through however, the colour and texture wasn't at all pleasant as it had clearly been pre-prepared and finished off in a deep fryer? Our friends Korma was stringy and quite inedible which must have been apparent when clearing the table as he left most of it and the waiter didn't even bother to ask whether there was anything wrong. We won't be returning and must get into the habit of rejecting food after the first bite which isn't really the "English thing to do". There's really no excuse for lazily prepared food.

We were staying at the Lawns and chose to eat in the hotel's Dining room each night. Both their menu and wine list are both excellent and sensibly priced. We had an excellent meal on each evening, with very good service.

This Restaurant is well presented and staff are very welcoming. From ordering to serving is a reasonable time which suggests food is freshly cooked. We were a party of twelve and most were pleased with their food. The Lamb Roast was praised, but others rated theirs as just OK. Overall the group were satisfied.Just a quick note - check your Bill.

Good for families or just a light lunch with a friend. I can ride right in on my little mobility scooter and the staff are always helpful. Good food - small menu, but fresh and well presented. The garden is lovely if it's fine, sheltered and sunny.

The bedrooms have been renovated and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Good home cooked food. Weirdly, you enter the hotel from the rear through a lean-to sort of conservatory. Parking at rear.

We booked this hotel for our anniversary and was very disappointed. We had a large room with a Kingsize bed. The bathroom tiles had black on the grouting and a rusty towel rack over the bath. A broken wall lamp which was covered with a cloth the staff did mention this it would not have been a problem if the room had been up to scratch. We did have dinner the first night but was not very impressed we found the breakfast very greasy and not very good. So all in all we would not be going back

While looking round the very pretty village of Holt, we decided to check out The Lawns, as I had been recommended to it. They have a good menu, and it compares favorable to the other restaurants, who did seem to be more expensive. Both my wife and I chose salads, which were small, but very good. The staff were helpful, and served us with a smile.

we had been recommended this restaurant, so was looking forward to it. sorry but very disappointed had a toasted turkey sandwich and chips with gravy, the turkey was a piece of very chewy cardboard (couldnt call it meat). the sandwich itself was very dry. when the young lady collected my plate she asked if all was well i said no it was dry she said there was gravy to dip it in. never dipped a sandwich in gravy before. not very helpful, shant be going again

Fish and chips served freshly cooked in a nice light batter. We treated ourselves to fish and chips here. It is on the pricey side for fish and chips but the staff and environment made it decent value. The views from the table were also nice, especially as it was a cold day. Toilets were nice and clean and hot water to wash and warm hands up. Good that we arrived at 12noon opening time as we could choose a table with a good view. It was busy when we visited. Overall will go again and again go early.

Down in Worstead on wee business trip, asked about possibility of lunch nearby and were directed to the White Lady. It was around 14:30 on a Sunday afternoon so expectations weren't too high (would have settled for a sandwich...). Friendly welcome, assured food would be no problem and we're given 3 menus! We're invited to sit anywhere we chose so opted for window seat in dining area to rear. We both opted for Sunday roast topside. Absolutely fantastic. Beef cooked to perfection, awesome roast potatoes and Yorkshire pud, came with glazed chantenay carrots, buttered green beans and zingy red cabbage, jug of lush gravy and topped of with dish of unctuous Cauliflower and cheese (each by the way). Thinking about making the 3 hour drive again just to have that experience again.
