The Last Wine Bar in Norwich

Had the menu du jour and main menu items. Everything was sublime. The cauliflower veloute with homemade tortellini was delicious. The pork belly with the creamiest mash ever was second to none. The setting and the service are fabulous. Such a lovely friendly setting. Highly recommend.

Visited on a Friday evening. Warm welcome on arrival. Friendly staff showed us to our table in the bar area. ( must be the best table in Norwich !) Talked us through the menu options... food was simply outstanding ... great atmosphere and excellent wine selection. Highly recommended. We will be back soon

Second visit to the most recent iteration of this busy, lively bar and restaurant close to the Playhouse Theatre. Food was of very good quality & good value on both occasions. I had the cucumber & lovage gazpacho which was very good but I would have preferred it to be more thoroughly chilled. My wife chose the chicken leg terrine, an excellent starter is it was not too heavy. We both had pork loin, cabbage & aligot for the main. Lovely flavours & just the right amount. Add in a well-chosen wine list and very excellent service and Norwich has a definite hit on its hands. Will definitely return.

We are visiting Norwich for a short break and ate here last night upon recommendation. We all chose the Menu du jour. It was, overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience, with some lovely little touches. We loved the surprise amuse-bouches and petits fours. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious (with the exception of my pork tenderloin main course which was overly salty, but not enough to spoil the dish). The staff were very attentive and friendly and the ambiance was spot on. Would love to come back next time we visit.

Third visit since The Last reopened and the first time the food has been disappointing. I had the Menu du Jour which looked great, and my green gazpacho was delicious (though too heavy on the garlic). The cheese souffle on the A la Carte menu was also excellent. The skate, however, was just really salty and oily with no interesting flavours at all. I've had the skate before and it was perfect, but this time it was barely edible. The potato blocks (I can't remember what they are called) were really greasy too. So disappointing. We're hoping it was just an off night or a poor dish. We so want the Last to be brilliant! We will be back...

Superb food and excellent service. We had the Menu du Jour, good choices available. Between us we had the cured trout, ham hock terrine, skate wing and pork chop. All were delicious and the service was top notch. Puddings were excellent. Great to see such a good independent restaurant in Norwich which doesn't just push out overpriced burgers. Long may it last.

I cannot speak highly enough about the “new” last. I have visited several times since the change of ownership and have found the “experience” to be just perfect every time. Steve is the perfect host and front of house leader. His attention to detail and recommendations have been second to none. My wife is vegetarian and both of us find something every time across the menu with favourites being the broad bean pea risotto, soufflé, turbot and the fillet of Norfolk beef. Alongside the food the wine selection is great and the cocktails a real treat for any occasion.

I visited The last Wine Bar for lunch with a friend yesterday. The Last has always held a special place in my heart as it was the first restaurant I dined at after moving to Norfolk 25 years ago. Over the years it has had its ups and downs and sadly closed last year. Two weeks ago it reopened under a new owner, Sebastian, with a new chef, Mortimer. Sebastian comes from Norwich where he has worked in several restaurants but has spent the last ten years at the Ritz in London. The Last Wine Bar is in the heart of the historic and beautiful city. It used to be a shoe factory when Norwich was a centre of leather and textiles- hence the name Last as in a shoe last. The former owners carried out a major renovation and now this iconic venue has a beautiful interior which is comfortable in the style of a good Parisien bistro. We were warmly welcomed by Sebastian who undertakes the Front of House role. The members of his team were knowledgeable and the service was warm and friendly. My friend and I chose the a la carte menu as it was a special occasion. We both had the halibut with sauce Veronique . It was delicious , a real treat. We used to go to The Last pretty much on a 3 weekly basis when we lived in Norwich. Having moved out to South Norfolk we don’t get the chance to go out in Norwich so often. Anyway, the menu format has changed with brunch items, small and large plates, rather than traditional courses. We had a fabulous meal for my birthday. Absolutely delicious, in season and locally sourced food, good sized portions, great ambience and a varied, quality wine list. Huge thank you to the team for giving us a really memorable meal. Can’t wait to be back.

Went with a group of work colleagues for a retirement do and had pre-ordered the vegetarian options. The Cauliflower Pakora starter was great but the main Grilled Squash was very disappointing. That was all there was to it; no bed of cous cous or rice, or even chips! I ended up still hungry after the meal and having to steal chips from my colleagues plates.

We came for lunch with our 5 month old and the service and food was amazing. Great value too. Lots of choice on the menu, we enjoyed everything we ordered. Nice atmosphere too in the restaurant. We will be coming back for sure.

Really interesting menu, which had plenty of vegetarian options. We shared tempura asparagus, which was very lightly battered and absolutely delicious. Mains were roasted celeriac with gnocchi and blue cheese, and fillet steak…. We shared hispi cabbage and thrice cooked chips. Brilliant meal. The wine list is interesting and I particularly enjoyed a glass of rose from Winburri vineyard in Norfolk. Delightful service

We went for a celebratory dinner. The atmosphere was lovely and the greeting very friendly. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. We had a romantic booth for two down in the cellar ! The service was exceptional. Thank you to our server, Amy, and to Alex the restaurant manager. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would not hesitate to return. In fact we are already planning another visit.

This place has potential. The food looked and tasted good, but it was cold when it arrived. The service was slow and inattentive. No good for a business lunch. Staff muttering to each other behind the bar rather than serving tables tends to wind customers up.

We had a really good meal at The Last. Well cooked and presented food (octopus to start was delicious and venison main also cracking and served nice and pink). We were served by a very professional member of staff(didn’t get her name I’m afraid) who gave us just the right amount of attention and advice. Nice lay out and atmosphere, very well priced too.

We had not been for a while but decided to have lunch. As we did not really fancy anything from Al La Carte menu, we opted for small plates. So disappointed with belly pork. Really fatty, hardly any meat and tough. Belly Pork is wonderful when it melts in your mouth. Nice waitress asked if everything was okay. We said no, and explained about the Belly Pork. She said she would feed it back to chef. Hope she didn’t mean it literally. Nothing else was said, but we decided not to have a desert as we were disappointed. Even more disappointed to be charged for dish hardly eaten, well mostly uneaten. It doesn’t take much for a restaurant to just take the cost of dish off the bill. As it was, they missed out on other drinks, deserts and coffee, and of course a poor revue. I am aware people do try it on, but this was our anniversary lunch. We came back home 30miles away and had one of my nice puddings I had made. Will not be returning. Plenty of nice places where we live, but gave Last WB a chance.

Visited last night. Overall it was a good experience but there was only one option for a vegetarian main dish. Being a veggie I had to choose the one option on the menu. Generally the flavours were good but it was weirdly covered in pomegranate seeds which I hate and therefore ruined the meal.Possibly a good choice of restaurant for meat eaters but if you are vegetarian I would recommend you choose somewhere else that offers a respectful choice of meals other than one overpriced dish with dry rice and a random scattering of rock hard pomegranate seeds.

Long over due review of Christmas lunch. Had a fantastic experience at every step with arranging lunch for 36. All email correspondence around booking, pre-orders and everchanging dietary requirements was dealt with promptly and made my life as organiser nice and easy. On the day we had the mezzanine and bar area to ourselves and this was perfect as we enjoyed pre-drinks and canapes. Everyone raved about the food which given the numbers all came out quickly and was delicious and hot. We had the usual issues with people remembering what they ordered but all the staff did an amazing job of getting the right food to the right people. As organiser I've had lots of praise for a great event but really this should all go to the staff for looking after us so well and making this a success. Thanks again to everyone involved.

We ate in the cafe part of the restaurant which we were happy to do as there seemed to be quite a few Christmas Parties in the main room. It's a very pretty place and I could not fault the young woman who served us. Polite and helpful. However the food was average. I had the cod croquettes which were ok but not magnificent and could have done with more sauce. My partner and guest had the cauliflower which again could have done with more sauce and there was a lot of it. Our other guest had the duck donut which he said was delicious. There were one fish and a pithivier which was delicious - the veggies were cold in both cases. The venison was good but hardly warm and the veggies cold. The burger turned up raw in the middle and ok one could argue that it should have been stipulated to be well done. It was taken back and turned up again crisped to almost a cinder. It was taken off the bill but that is surely not the point. Anyway - we liked the place as a restaurant but we probably won't go back unless its tot he cafe during the day. Also there hardly any vegan dishes but it was said that vegetarian ones can be adapted to vegan. Shame as it was disappointing and not inexpensive. I saw this restaurant had mixed reviews but we decided to give it a go. Think they are on the right track but need to polish it

I visited Last with my friend in May. We chose Last as I had heard nice things about the restaurant and wanted to show off the best of Norwich. Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark for us. We had cauliflower pakora as starters which arrived cold for both of us. My friend had the potato pithivier, also cold and quite dry because its essentially potato in a pastry. We didnt finish our starters or the main. I was very excited about visiting Last but I returned quite disappointed. We were not sure what going out for a meal would be like given the restrictions in place but had a wonderful evening. Whilst it was quiet in terms of numbers of people, the staff were friendly and helpful. We asked for advice on wine to match each course and each one was (to my amateur palate) a great choice. We dropped for lunch - just one course. It was a really good experience. Nice room, excellent waiter, great menu and nice wine list. Mrs W opted for a fillet steak and fries which was very much to her liking. I had a wonderful ox cheek on mash dish which was 10/10. We choose a bottle of German Pinot noir which isn’t what I usually choose but it was delicious. With two large G& T’s, the bill was just under £100 which I thought was fair value. Service was pleasant but a little slow. Would 100% go again.

We revisited the Last this evening for the first time since the change of ownership. The food was fabulous... all four of our party chose differently but the discerning throng were all really impressed with the diversity and quality of the food. Our meals were nothing short of amazing.... starters ... Kentucky Fried Octopus, Smoked Duck Ham, Crispy Tofu .... followed by blue cheese beef pie, cod with crab bisque, succulent filet steak were great!! Only negative... wine list needs a massive refresh. But a lovely evening!

We have been going to this restaurant for nearly 20 years and do so for special occasions such as our birthdays and anniversaries. We have always had an amazing time. Great food, love the venue and the staff were always attentive and made the occasion, until now!I get things under COVID are different and challenging. We had a table booked for 8pm on 24th October and knew we would only have the table for 2 hours, as the restaurant has to close at 10pm. We usually had the table until the restaurant closed later pre-COVID, but accepted it was only for 2 hours. Imaging our frustration when out of that 2 hours, we had to wait 50 minutes for our starter to arrive, then it was an hour and 20 minutes before the main got there. We both ordered steak, the most expensive items on the menu and both steaks were cold. With limited time left, we felt there wouldn’t be time to enjoy a dessert, coffee and liqueurs, as well as further drinks, like we would normally do, as we had a taxi booked for 10pm and by that time felt rushed anyway.As I said the staff were previously very attentive. We had to ask 3 times for some water for the table, condiments were not offered and had to get our own seasoning. It wasn’t just our ‘bad luck’ we had such poor service, a couple at the next table had to wait as long as we did. Clearly they did not have enough staff preparing food or serving. The restaurant was busy, which was good to see under these difficult times, but with social distancing, not as full as it used to be. If these new owners cannot cope with the number of covers they have now, what chance when things go back to normal!We are so disappointed at our recent Last Wine Bar experience, considering we have not been able to celebrate special occasions because of Government enforced closure until now. We were so looking forward to it, but are now looking for a different restaurant to spend out time and money for those celebrations. If anyone has any recommendations in the Norwich area, please let me know.

We hadn’t been here since February so lots of things had changed. However, the biggest disappointment was cold food which was taken away and returned but still cold! The waiting staff and management on duty couldn’t have been more apologetic and helpful and we praised them for that. Sadly, it was probably after more than 22 years, our LAST visit but we wish the dedicated staff all the best.

Very impressed with two waiting staff running whole restaurant. They were dressed smartly and provided excellent customer service. Partner and I had both had steak and chips. Cooked just as we ordered them. Delicious.

Have not been for five years as did not rate it that much, but our daughter booked it and what a fantastic improvement.The food presentation and taste was top level amazing, the prices reasonable and great friendly service, we will definitely be back again soon.You must try the Oxtail Doughnut for starter the mix of savoury with slightly sweet was fantastic and all four of us said we could of had that for main course and dessert as well.

As usual checked the reviews and booked a table for Friday, based on the very good feedback. Who writes these reviews? This place is at best mediocre. Wine and service OK - the food uninspired, bland , small portions and not that cheap. Haunch of venison - tough and tasteless - all in all a real disappointment - if you want good food in Norwich go to the Cote Brasserie

Hanging from last night I needed carbs.I heard the Last wine bar was starting to do breakfasts at the weekend. I ordered the full English for £10.00. Quick service and great breakfast as you see from the picture. Well worth a visit. I will be back.

Myself and 2 colleagues visited the last wine bar for dinner having had excellent dinners before. Everything started well and the service was attentive. We divided to go straight for mains and it was likely we all wanted a pudding. The waitress was great and helped with our food choices. The food arrived fairly promptly, they checked that everything was ok with our food and our plates were cleared quickly after we had finished but this is where the great service ended. We were chatting etc and at first did not notice so much the passing of time but we finally managed to get someone attention to bring us the desert menus. Again we then waited for anyone to come back and take our order. At this point we all agreed it was probably a bit late to be eating a rich pudding. waitresses nowhere to be seen I went to the bar to pay. With a booking at 7pm and us leaving just before 9:30pm we were there for nearly 2.5 hours having had just a main course. The food however was amazing and I am sad that I did not get to try one is the lovely sounding puddings.

Birthday meal at the weekend and the Last managed to seat us in our preferred area.The extractor was broken which limited the menu somewhat but enough choice to make a pleasant experience.

Ok, bad stuff first.Nothing.Good stuff. The restaurant has tremendous kerb appeal and the internal decor is warm and welcoming. The staff were friendly and directed us to the bar for a drink.The menu was limited and I for one like this. I would prefer a few well prepared dishes to 1001 permutations. We had the cauliflower procura for starters and the pigeon. They food was excellent. The mains were a delight.I am not a fan of puddings but my wife and son had the white chocolate delice. Both were in raptures over the dish.All in all a wonderful meal in a beautiful restaurant.

Great service and atmosphere, didn't feel rushed which can happen on such a busy evening. Food excellent as always.

Really nice place and the food was really really good.great place for a lunch or dinner and we hear breakfast on a Friday or Saturday. Definitely recommend and would come again.

Second visit for a catch-up with ex-colleagues. The restaurant/bar has a welcoming feel, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food of a very high standard, both in presentation and flavour, despite how busy it was on a Friday lunchtime. Will definitely return for another visit.

Great restaurant, but just not in the class of say the Wildebeest, despite the prices. For starter had trio of duck, but one of the trio tasted like it had been cooked in one of those plastic roasting bags.

3 of us met for lunch. Food was excellent, service excellent, with friendly and professional staff. the bar setting was great and the general atmosphere was really nice . i would definitely return/ recommend. Its also situated in a very nice part of Norwich a small stroll away from the 'lanes' area .
