Classic pub with some nice ales on. Didn't have food ourselves but it smelled good. As classic a pub as it gets with dart board, juke box etc

Called in here one afternoon with my dog, nice pub & was made very welcome. Lager was cheaper than a lot of Norwich pubs. It was a sunny afternoon so I sat outside with the dog. Very pleasant couple of pints, recommend.

Great, traditional pub. always a warm welcome and perfectly kept real ales. The food is wholesome and good value - a good meal for 9.50. The interior is unspoilt yet fresh and airy. The locals staff and locals are constantly friendly.. I'm lucky to have this gem just around the corner..

My mate encouraged me to join him for lunch .We began with lubrication from Plum Porter I chose Baked Potato with Chilli which came with some Salad. There was also a choice of specials we finished with a pale IPA of which there was a choice of two. I was told by a work colleague portions were not huge but the food was unusual and varied for a pub . Portion size was fine without encouraging overeating,my friend agreed he didn't need the sticky toffee pudding one of two desserts on the special board. Customers were a mix including families and a couple of dogs to retired people ,it was pleasant and busy

Cheap pint, plenty of space and seats. Sadly didn't see a cat!

First time back in 25 years since living in Norwich. Exactly the same as when I left, which is to say, wonderful. Friendly staff, tasty beer, interesting decor.

A great back street pub with a good selection of I believe it was five real ale beers? I had a Flintknappers mild & a Bure Gold both were excellent. Chip shop also just up the road!

My favourite pub in Norwich - good range of local ask ales as well as more mainstream lagers/stouts and a solid collection of spirits and mixers. Not only are the staff absolutely lovely and make you feel at home, but all the other punters create a wonderful atmosphere in a pub that really does feel like the heart of a neighbourhood. P.s. dogs are allowed too!

This is an excellent traditional two room back street corner pub, one of those where you walk in through the front door to the small front bar section but then the rest of the pub, to the side and to the back, just urges you to explore it. Still retains a feeling of the old public/lounge split with the bar room having a wooden floor and the back room more lounge like and carpeted. But both areas containing a log burner in each and plenty of pub and local memorabilia to keep you interested for a fair while.
Four of the five ale handpumps were on the go for our visit, all with local Norwich Brewery ales. These were Humpty Dumpty Swallowtail, Norfolk Brewhouse Ostara Golden Ale and then two from the nearby Mr Winters Brewery, Ale X Best Bitter and the Vanilla Latte Milk Stout. I went for the Milk stout, and it was excellent, both as a Milk Stout and in condition, but then you would expect the latter considering its only had to travel from 10 minutes up the road.
I think there’s a small courtyard section to the back, but this was not explored, and there are some bench tables to the front of the pub and the interesting smoking shelter converted from a bus shelter. If you are into traditional back street pubs, then this is a very good one to visit and can easily be done as a double with the nearby iconic Fat Cat.

Possibly the best pint of Guinness in Norwich! Came across this pub by mistake and has easily become one of my favourite pubs in Norwich. Limited outdoor space but visiting on the quieter times (like we do) it’s perfect for us. Large indoor space though which is nice. The pubs clean and full of regulars and new faces (like us). Great selection of booze on tap and lovely staff. I’ve been trying to find the best pint of Guinness in Norwich and wouldn’t have thought it but this pub might just be it!!

This was introduced to me in Norwich by my friend I was treating asa Christmas gift meal. Good wholesome quality restaurant food cooked in a old traditional pub. Tasty hot and healthy served with garlic or just fresh crusy bread. I had beef bogionne and veg. Large cuts off beef in a beautiful red wine sauce.mmmm! I loved what friend was eating chilli I am definitely having that next time and all under £9.00 what value! No mean portions either . Just the place for a romantic meal , out eith your friends or after or before the theatre, cinima. The Alex is full of character, warmth and friendly folk. You will receive a warm welcome and a lovely log fire. Worth a look in. Anthony Burn

Brilliant pub - no pretence or fanfare, just friendly staff, a good atmosphere, and fairly priced booze. Haven't tried the food yet but by all reports its top notch

Had a couple of beers in here on the edge of Norwich city centre. A few good ales on when we visited and lots of great memorabilia up on the walls. Well worth a visit!

If you want a drink and excellent pub food in a traditional style pub, then the Alex is for you. Small range of quality real ales, well cared for and available to sample. The staff are friendly and know their stuff. Seating inside and out in a dog friendly and comfortable couple of bars. Undeniably friendly and atmospheric.

Excellent backstreet pub - which has been providing excellent beer and atmosphere for the last 30 years. Great staff, top quality beer and an eclectic and carefully curated clientele combine to make the Alex one of Norfolk's finest drinking establishments. Not to be missed. x

A traditional pub, what a rarity these days to find a pub like this. Had an Aspall Clear Cider and a meal called the Ale'x which was a rather snazzy name for beef with vegetables in gravy with garlic bread, but still very nice.

An absolute gem. Lovely atmosphere and great, friendly staff. The food is home cooked, very well priced and gorgeous. There are always lots of vegetarian options which works for us. I cannot recommend The Alex highly enough. My favourite pub in Norwich.

Friendly Landlord. The beer I tried was from a Humpty Dumpty a small Norfolk brewery which was in excellent condition. The only regret being that as I'm in Norwich for a short time I wasn't able to spend enough time to to the pub justice.

The Alexandra Tavern is a proper local pub, friendly, warm and welcoming. There are 6 reals on hand pump. There is a small simple food menu, with a specials board. We had the chilli beef nachos and humus with crusty bread. Both dishes were good portions and very tasty. Will defo be coming back here to eat. 🍺🍽👍

One of the best pubs in Norwich

What a find! Situated in a small backstreet outside of the City. 5 hand pumps with local beers, ranging from a pale to a porter, the Ale X was a traditional best bitter and in excellent condition. Food was FANTASTIC, mainly bowls or soup or stews but I would say possibly the best soup and stew I have ever eaten in a pub. The only downside is that they stop serving food at 7pm. Great taste and great value, all served with a friendly smile. Well worth looking them out.

Top notch boozer that's not too far from the city centre. Norwich is not that well served for pubs in the city centre - most of the best ones are in the suburbs. This one is the best in the area locals call "The Golden Triangle" - a traditional English suburban pub with a really diverse and interesting clientele. Good beer and extremely friendly. A regular haunt for myself and my partner if we want to go out with the dog and have a good blether.

A lovely pub one that isn’t spoilt by over refurbishment allowing it to retain its character . Staff are always friendly , prices extremely reasonable and food of a good wholesome nature also very reasonably priced !

Only visited twice when visiting family but already love this welcoming traditional local pub. Good choice of drinks, friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Food has good reviews but not yet tried. Added bonus, it's dog friendly **

The Alex has become a regular for me. A real ale pub serving properly kept ale and good, wholesome and reasonably priced food. Friendly, welcoming staff. Unpretentious and 'down to earth'.

When I moved to Norwich I had no kitchen for a couple of weeks and ate the delicious good value food at the Alex every night, the staff were welcoming and friendly full of good tips. When I got a puppy, he was welcomed and socialized by staff and drinkers alike. Always good beer, always good people. A proper local pub.
