The Last Days of Raj in Newcastle upon Tyne

Saturday night, just home from travelling, was hungry and ordered on the off chance, having not ordered from here before. It was the best paneer I ever had, it turned up on time, piping hot, lovely flavours. Thank you!

visiting Newcastle staying at air b@b close to restaurant. A little put off by previous comments but mew ownership so decided to try. best decision ever made - first class decor, lovely atmosphere, great waiters and the food to die for. Seriously the best Indian restaurant in the north east and as a fan of indian food I've been to many. do yourself a favour and try it - you can even bring your own drink which saves on the bill. Couldn't recommend more highly.

This is the first time we have visited The days of the raj, despite living locally, it certainly won’t be the last! The restaurant has a lovely vibe and ambience, the two waiters who served us were incredibly polite, efficient and helpful. The menu is great, with lots of choice and very reasonably priced. Food was absolutely delicious, the perfect temperature and very well presented. The onion bhajis were to die for!! We also loved how they allow you to bring your own alcohol. We can’t wait to return!

The new owners have introduced ‘Feast For All’ on a Thursday and Sunday, we live reasonably locally and thought we would give it a go, it’s cheap enough what have we got to loose and no corkage on the wine you bring in….. winner winner! Well it certainly was a winner, although not busy and early Isr Su day evening, the food was really good, the service was attentive but not intrusive, the banter with the staff was good too, all in all a really good experience. For those locals who were out off by the last ownership, give it a go, you and your taste buds will not regret it.

We had a meal at the Days of Raj. It has recently been taken over. The new owners are currently modernising the restaurant. Food is excellent and the service is very attentive. They no longer have a licence which I see as a benefit as you can take your own alcohol. If you didn’t you can pop next door to the garage and buy some. We will be back

Food and service are always good. They also have good hygiene, which is vital to customers. I cannot understand the poor reviews.

We visited 19th Sept 2023. The service was excellent, the waiter was very attentive and helped with our additional request (a little more spice while maintaining the flavours). The fish Pakora starter was fresh and light with plenty of flavour and I would definitely have again and again. One of the best garlic Nan breads we have had and the main (Mirchi chicken with additional heat) was perfect. Great night out - thank you.

A menudo comemos aquí como una familia, y la comida nunca decepciona. Creo que confiar más en los pedidos para llevar, ya que el restaurante es casi siempre vacío. I actually played music on the opening night here. The curries are good although a bit more authentic when it first opened. However the food is good and not too expensive. Give me another gig Arthur!

We live close to here and wouldn't go anywhere else for a takeaway. You get a bottle of wine if you spend 40 pound which is handy if there are a few of you. Great range of specials and the naan breads are divine

Everytime i have had curry from here,Vindaloo bieng my weapon of choice,its been fantastic. Succulent chicken, Vindaloo is just perfect and all the extras , bread sag allo , rice and the inevitable chips are fantastic.

Meal wasn't great for me. Tarka daal was bland, missing seasoning and key flavours. Paneer tikka masala had aubergine and okra in it which was very random - never experienced this before anywhere else and wasn't great. The best things for me was the naan and masala poppadoms. On a positive note, the customer service was brilliant and staff were very welcoming.

Get takeaways here once a month and won't go anywhere else. Naan breads are superb. Great range of specials too. Spend over 50 pounds and you get a bottle of wine.

Después de leer algunas de las críticas venenosas realizado por personas horribles, sentí que debía restablecer el equilibrio. Este restaurante es fácilmente el mejor restaurante indio en Gosforth y casi en Newcastle también. Desde que descubrí que necesito ir en ningún otro lugar para mi y mis amigos y familiares es curry.

Booked a table for 7 pm via their website earlier today,money to find that they didn't check for bookings! However, a very friendly welcome and promptly shown to a table.We have eaten here often, albeit slightly later, and always felt that we were somewhat ignored as take-away orders seemed to take preference. No such thing this evening.Extremely prompt service, superb food as usual, no intrusive background music, reasonably priced and home within an hour. Perfect.A reasonable choice of wines, beer/lager on drought, hot towels and sweeties to finish, everything spot on.

Pedimos a estos chicos ya que tenía un buen sitio web muy bonito. El chico del teléfono dijo a una hora de entrega ya que se llena de gente. Bien ... esto fue a las 6.30 . En 7,50 me llamaron para verificar en mis pedidos. Dijo que el señor de la entrega había dejado hace 15 minutos! Esperé hasta las 8,15 y luego nos dimos por vencidos. La comida podría haber sido excepcional, pero el servicio de entrega es horrible.

Pedimos comida para llevar desde aquí por primera vez esta noche y me dijeron que nuestra comida estaría allí a la hora. 1 hora y 20 minutos más tarde, la comida llegó y simplemente no estaba al nivel sobre todo teniendo en cuenta el costo de la comida. No sólo era tarde, no había un plato falta, uno de los otros platos era completamente equivocados, el plato principal estaba solo medio lleno y lo peor de todo no sólo uno, sino dos pequeños huesos encontrado en uno de los platos. Llamamos al restaurante para hacerles saber de horror sólo para ser la despacharon con el típico 'le enviaremos algo la próxima vez", que no se que hacer, ya que sin duda alguna no regresaremos este horrible establecimiento.. muy decepcionante desde un restaurante con una buena reputación.

Un lugar donde usted será bienvenido desde el momento en que subir las escaleras, teníamos un sábado por la noche comida, fue sirve eficientemente, y discreto servicio. Disfrutamos Jalfresi Kashmiri pollo y pollo, tanto lo que llamamos de alta calidad. Una experiencia totalmente feliz regalo para un fin.

This was a treat from my mother for my anniversary. We new of the raj when it was the bay horse. So as we arrived to a completely different building. We went on a Thursday at 6pm and would advise you book. The food was excellent. The staff were great help (even the new lad that had just started) will happily return thanks for a brilliant night

Order placed via JustEat. No delivery of meal at time suggested. Called and spoke to the staff who stated they had no record of the order. I decided not to proceed with a further order, however the order later arrived expecting cash payment even though the credit had been taken online. Spoke to a member of staff on the phone who was rude. I will not be ordering from the Days of Raj again.

Visited here often been going here for over 2 years service always great staff very kind and friendly restaurant and toilets immaculately clean!! food always lovely! would definitely recommend and any one giving bad comments i would ignore!! :)

Simple, I came here on the back of an advert on their website offering starter, main, side, rice and naan for £9.95. Came in and placed two orders for the above and was curious when the calculator came out. Surely a calculator isn't needed to work out 10p change from my £20. No, apparently my bill was £25.90!!!! I pointed to their "offer" on the menu offering ANY starter, ANY main etc to be told that no, this was for a special menu with HALF portions. I asked where that was mentioned in their offer and was told "no sir, that is something different". I told him yes it is something different, it's called false advertising and it's illegal and he muttered something about no, it's not. He then decided to knock 90p off so he only scammed me out of a round fiver. Were it not for having a heavily pregnant and overdue wife at home keen to try any old wives take and the fact that the indian at south gosforth is closed on a Tuesday I'd have walked. To add insult to injury I am writing this review IN THE TAKE AWAY 35 minutes after having placed my order. Avoid at all costs

We visited last night and had a great evening.The welcome on arrival was swift and appeared genuine.The decoration and layout of the place was really good.We did not use one of the deals on offer which seemed very good value.While the place was not busy, we were neither rushed or ignored. That balance is one we really value and the staff got it spot on for us.The food was very good and well presented - and from an extensive menu.The price for what we ordered was very reasonable.At the end we were presented with a tray of a variety of sweets to eat while we paid the bill.The only downside we could envisage is parking when the place is busy. But that was not the case last night.We will certainly return soon.
