The Lanes Coffee House in Brighton and Hove

I found his place by accident while on a day trip to Brighton, and I am really glad I did. We had Cappucino's and Flat Whites...and they were excellent...plus the owner was very friendly and helpful....Lovely place.

Really poor service dealing with a nut allergy, made us feel very uncomfortable and pretty much told we couldn’t eat or drink here because there is “nuts everywhere”. It’s 2022, allergies are very common and for there to be absolutely no thought process or even willingness to cater for allergens is pretty poor.

Really love this family run independent coffee house, we pop in every tiem we visit Brighton. Really friendly and they love dogs, woof!

Jess and I were wandering around the North Lanes during the weekend and we happened across this small and independent coffee house. The sun was shining and we were parched, so we both enjoyed an iced latte in the sun. Very friendly gentleman on the front and the interior is exquisite. Support local businesses and give this hidden gem a chance. They also do loyalty cards for those who those caffeine fiends out there. Don’t worry, they have vegware carry-out cups to avoid plastic pollution and if you have a furry friend, they do doggy ice cream. Smiles all round!

A gorgeous little shop, with a great menu and really customer focussed staff. I ordered three coffees and all were great quality. Although we didn’t eat, the food looked good and there was a selection of vegan cakes which was lovely to see. The cafe was clean and the gentleman serving was lovely. I would definitely use this coffee house again and hopefully get some cake next time.

This place has become our go-to place for a takeaway coffee while out walking during lockdown. The coffee is consistently excellent (we usually have an espresso and a latte, so good across all types!), the owner is lovely and friendly, and it's reasonable, especially if you have a loyalty card. It's very clean and all COVID-measures are followed scrupulously. The food looks lovely too - what shame we're both on diets!

When we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly barista, and were made to feel very welcome. Coffee was delicious in an excellent location in the Lanes. Also check out Papillon across the road for really unique homeware and gifts!

A good place to rest and enjoy a flavoursome cup of coffee, we tried a cookie which was also very good. staff friendly premises clean and practising current requirements. Very Good

Second visit here and still the friendliest chap ever. Accommodated my mum and myself as we wanted to sit outside and it was raining. Seats moved and wiped, nothing was to much trouble plus the best cappuccino in Brighton served with care. Please visit should be in Brighton we need more of this cheery chappy and great independent tasty coffee.

A beautiful, reasonably price coffee shop located off the beaten track in Brighton. Had the cream tea, which was delicious (both the tea and the scones). Very friendly staff.

Visitamos para almorzar y lo que nos llamó la atención primero fue el servicio amable y acogedor del joven de turno. Pequeño y pintoresco lugar con una bonita decoración y comida encantadora. Teníamos una tostada, frijoles con tostadas y un par de bebidas calientes. Mi esposo dijo que el café era muy bueno. Luego espió una tarta de limón y chocolate blanco que tenía que tener, y que también estaba delicioso. El menú es bastante limitado (debido a que me imagino a la pequeña cocina que pude ver a través de la puerta). Pero suficiente elección para encontrar algo que te guste. Definitivamente lo recomendaría. Ah, y son amigables con los perros, venden bocadillos para perros y ofrecen un tazón de agua gratis para ellos.

This lovely coffee place is the perfect escape to Brighton busy Lanes. The coffee is from far the best in town and it's served by the loveliest owners, who are always so welcoming.

Llegué por capricho para un desayuno rápido antes de nuestro tren. Tuve un chai latte y él tenía un blanco plano y luego nos perdimos en lo que tiene que ser el mejor sándwich de salchichas y huevos. Simple pero delicioso y tan agradable servicio al cliente. Nos vemos pronto.

Llamé aquí por primera vez durante las compras navideñas y necesité una parada de descanso. No decepcionaron, proporcionando un muy buen café y pasteles agradables: probamos un brownie (lo suficientemente grande para dos) y bollos, ambos excelentes. Sin embargo, la característica destacada fue el servicio, muy amable y eficiente.

Delicious coffee. I tried the GF raspberry and pistachio cake which was also superb and I believe baked on site. Juices were ok - fresh would be better! No GF savoury options was a shame. Smiley, friendly service. I was served by the owner. He had no problem with me working in there for a while, although there were quite a few tables free at the time, so could be different if it's busy (which I bet it often is!)Would definitely come back.

We stopped off here for morning coffee. We are a group of 7 ladies and the coffee and service was excellent! We then came back for lunch as were made to feel so welcome. The lunch was equally good - would definitely recommend!

Found this while walking around the lanes, dog friendly inside and out. We sat in the rear terrace. Service excellent, friendly and quick. Food was excellent and value for money. Won't hesitate to go again and recommend it to everyone

Came in with my family for a bite to eat and a drink. The man serving us was charming, attentive and really helpful when we were being indecisive making our order. We had cheese toasties and a smoothie which was gorgeous. Great coffee house. Will definitely return.

What a popular place in the heart of The Lanes fast efficient service from the owner with a very cheerful greeting which is so rare these days! A brilliant tasting black coffee a light snack all served at rapid speed all with a smile...keep up the good work. You have restored my faith in coffee shops!!

This is a small, intimate, cosy and cafe with tasty, well-priced and excellent homemade food all served with a smile by the friendly and highly professional owner. The atmosphere and music are unbeatable and we will be returning again soon!

My wife and I have been here a few times and have always had a great experience. Great coffee and cakes (haven’t tried the food yet) and super friendly service. Seating indoors and also in a courtyard for the summertime. Also dog friendly so a winner all round

I stopped by here last weekend with my partner for a quick coffee. We ended up ordering sandwiches and a cream tea! Staff at the coffee house were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Despite the place being busy, it was like stepping back in time where good service was expected for all customers. Difficult to find in this age. The staff consisted of just a lady and a man who managed to see that everyone was taken care of to an excellent standard. Will definitely be returning here next time I'm in Brighton!!

I went here with friends to try and escape the heat, and the staff were so nice! They gave us water with ice and let us just sit in the cafe for a while. Also pretty reasonably priced for Brighton!

We stopped here for a coffee on a rainy Monday morning. We were greeted with friendly informative service, excellent coffee and superb cakes. A much better alternative to the big chains close by!

I'm so glad this shop was open today (it's not usually). A lovely clean and uncluttered respite with a fabulous mocha to boot.

I've been to Brighton a lot, both before and after having a family and obviously the experiences are vastly different and sometimes on a summer weekend, all you need is a quiet oasis where everyone can cool down before moving on to the next frantic set of demands and the Lanes was just that. From the minute we walked in, they couldn't have been nicer, making up the food especially for the girls quickly, getting us sorted for coffees and then a little treat in a takeaway bag. Just little touches that get lost in so many of the other "award winning" cafes in the city. Will definitely return.

Really fab place, great vintage vibes and lovely staff. Always visit when in Brighton. Coffee, cake, and atmosphere are brilliant and give you a proper flavour of the hip side of Brighton. Highly recommended!

My girlfriend, our 6 month old and I visited Brighton for the day and stumbled across this coffee shop and it is fantastic. The couple that run it and their staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us, despite being busy. They closed off the small back room for us, so that we could change our baby and even provided a towel for her to lay on. The food and coffee was excellent, and the cafe was clean and well cared for. When we stayed a little longer to finish feeding our baby we were offered iced water and and we enjoyed chatting to them too. If we lived in Brighton this would be our regular spot. Highly recommend it

This is a little gem of peace and tranquillity and a welcome reprieve from the busy Lanes. The venue is bigger than you think with a little bit of outside space. The menu is not extensive but what is available is good. The service is good and the staff are really lovely.

Spotted this coffee house near the Lanes and was delighted with the place. At last somewhere that serves excellent coffee and makes you welcome. Really good service and none of the obligatory up selling enquiry when you order coffee of “anything to go with your coffee?”It’s an old building with lots of different levels and apparently has its own ghost in the cellars below; another reason to visit. We will be returning.

Sit in the rear courtyard, it's a real sun trap. The cake & scones were exceptional. The staff, the vibe and the services was on a whole new level.

Came across this cosy but modern coffee shop whilst wondering around on a day out in Brighton! Food was tasty - the sausage and egg sandwiches went down a treat!! Unfortunately we couldn’t manage a cake as well but they looked delicious - maybe next time.

I have been going to Brighton regularly for years, this is probably the friendliest coffee shop I have been in there, staff great, coffee great, so are the snacks & cakes, a must when you need a break.

A tiny bit off the beaten track but well worth tracking down - the people are super-friendly, service is quick and efficient, and the food is great. I had a sausage and fried egg sandwich, which was probably the nicest sandwich I've had in ages!

We have been calling into Walter's coffee house soon after it opened.The place has a lovely atmosphere especially when the '60s and '70s music gets an airing.

We have eaten the 'cheese tea' a couple of times here: warm cheese scone, cream cheese and a super chutney and a pot of tea of your choice. it's a great alternative for those who don't have a sweet tooth.

The espresso is so fruity and balanced, one of the best I’ve had in Brighton! The staff is very service minded and the cafe super cute. Would definitely recommend!

I visited the Lanes Coffee on my trip to Brighton today. All I can say is WOW! I don't think I have ever received such amazing service by anyone. The staff (one lady and a gentleman) were so welcoming and warm - they really made my day (possibly my entire trip to the UK!)

What a fantastic little find. looks small from the outside but like most places Brighton deceptively big on the inside. Run by a lovely lady called Mandy a true little coffee shop that has a lot to offer, from hot meals, sandwiches, cream teas patisseries, cakes and ice cream. All ingredients are sourced from local farms everything is fresh and organic, natural. They also cater for vegans and vegetarians.

Comfortable coffee shop, nice atmosphere. Pistachio and raspberry cake very yummy, enjoyed with a nice cup of tea. Would recommend.

Found this little gem of a place in the lanes Brighton. Had a toasted sausage sandwich my wife had a gammon roll and tea very nice on a cold day. The. To finish a amazing shortbread chocolate cake hmmmm so nice I took one away !!!! Very nice atmosphere and the staff so helpful.

Love this little place, especially the courtyard which in warm weather is a great suntrap. I’ve sampled many a flat white in Brighton, and theirs is the best!

I’d like to start by saying that the place was very neat, clean and tidy and we were warmly welcomed. Sadly our coffee was really horrible and the almond croissant my wife ordered was completely dry and had very little almond in it. I had a salted caramel brownie and that wasn’t too good either. Judging by the other reviews I have no doubt that we were unlucky.

Only popped in whilst I was waiting for a friend but I'm so glad I chose this coffee shop. Great atmosphere, best coffee around and really friendly staff. I will be sure to tell people about this great find!

We found this place, by chance, after spotting people having coffee at a small table, from Bartholomew Street. (The main entrance is in Ship Street). It is a small place, the staff were friendly, the cafe very clean and the tea was perfect - we didn't try the cakes, but they looked lovely! Also, they sell dog ice cream, didn't know there was such a thing!! Hope the new cake display works well! Well worth a visit.

Very friendly cafe - with the best soy cafe latte I've personally ever had. Not always open first thing but worth waiting for them to open for.

Probably the friendliest café in Brighton; excellent coffee (hot and strong despite being a cappuccino) and amazing raspberry and pistachio cake (had no idea it was dairy free until afterwards) and the best millionaire's shortbread bar none (dark chocolate, caramel that tastes exactly like Swedish knaeck, hard crumbly shortbread - wholemeal?). Great place to people watch if you sit outside in the courtyard entrance. Will definitely be back!

After a morning spent exploring Brighton my girlfriend and I were desperate for a good coffee somewhere out of the wind and this little place was a great find. With a fantastic sun trap to the rear, good coffee, and very friendly service we were delighted to stumble upon The Lanes Coffee House.

Hidden away in the South Lanes (right by a suit of armour.. yes, you read right) is this cute coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. Staff are very friendly and my Mum and I had flat whites and a muffin, which were both really good. Perfect place to stop mid-shop, I'm definitely going back there

My partner and I dropped in today and were greeted by a lovely friendly guy, very welcoming, nice to get a bit of chatter when your being served, so that was nice.

Came across thus delightful, reasonably priced, friendly eatery as we left the expensive restaurants behind in search of real food and prices. Wonderful afternoon tea with savoury scones (cream cheese AND chutney), also do sweet version. Tucked away, but worth finding.

This little cafe is in a quiet street and has both indoor and outdoor seating and waiter service. I have been twice and the food and drink were excellent on both visits. Today we had delicious savoury cream tea - cheese scones with cream cheese and yummy home made chutney. Well worth a visit, and I shall certainly go again.

Found this little gem whilst on a 2.day visit to Brighton. We were trying to avoid the chain coffee shops so decided to pop in here for a coffee. So impressed we went back 2 hours later for a sandwich and cake. The almond croissant and bakewell slice were home made and delicious. Owners were so friendly and we had a great chat about musical instruments. Just a shame we haven't got an equivalent back home.

Popped in for a takeaway as I avoid all chains...Two Flat whites made perfectly & in the correct size cups using whole milk as it should be! No other silly Flat Whites available because they know what to do as #Independent #localtrader #notachain #propercoffee.... !! Cheers guys....☕
