Cafe Monella in Brighton and Hove

Excellent cafe with a lovely friendly owner and delicious food. Very reasonably priced too, would recommend to anyone.

Nice clean friendly, no easy parking. Breakfast menu is limited full English breakfast was small and bacon and sausages pre cooked. If you hungry and need an decent size breakfast this is not the place you will find it. The lady was very nice. It was quiet I was the only one here. Nice art work on the walls , no newspapers. The lady asked me if the food was ok, It was ok. I think she knew already. Still its a nice cafe that serves small portions with a limited menu.

As wonderful cafe! Food is freshly prepared and delicious and coffee exceptional. However it is the friendliness and atmosphere of welcome that has always meant the most to me.

Popped in whilst having my car repaired, friendly staff with a just like home feel. Absolutely recommend if in the area.

Local mums will love the child friendly garden out the back where the young ones can safely entertain themselves while mum grabs a well deserved coffee break. I've taken my two Labradors in and they too have been made to feel welcome with a warm greeting and a cheeky dog treat. I hope the lack of immediate parking doesn't affect business as this little gem of a local business deserves to be really successful. Wayne

Cafe is located about eight to ten minutes walk north east of Aldrington Rly Station near to Sackville Road. I had a coffee only, which was reasonably good. The staff are welcoming. I ate no food, but the breakfasts smelt appetising and the diners said that they found them good. Customers order at the counter and the food is brought to the tables by the staff. There are some long wooden tables & benches outside on decking at the back. The men;s toilet was clean when I used it.

Fantastic little local coffee shop. To he fair I didn't eat but the food looks really good. Had a fabulous coffee whilst chatting with the owner. If you are nearby make sure you visit.

An excellent discovery this, an Italian cafe with a quirky twist. Superb coffee and I really enjoyed trying the Italian pastries with it, chocolate in puff pastry for those with a sweet tooth, but the lemon in filo pastry was my favourite treat here.

Very nice place and amazing castomer service.

I've haven't eat inside just took a latte with my friends but the vibe was really good and the smell from those sausages for a proper breakfast was mesmerising. 😋👌

Homely, friendly modern cafe with wide range of quality food & drinks at reasonable prices. Very clean. Appreciated the rear garden space on a warm sunny day. Availability of toys etc for children was a nice added touch in the garden. Will return when have reason to be in the area again.

I always enjoy it here, a well run friendly café with delicious food and has a selection of non dairy "milk" for my hit drinks.

I was in Aldrington on a first aid course and I went there 3 times. Food was awesome and the lady in there was super friendly. Couldn't recommend it enough

We felt welcome from the kids the we stepped through the door - our dog was fussed and taken for a run in the enclosed back garden and we were treated to wonderful service, delicious coffee and tasty waffles. Our kid got to play on the trampoline in the garden, and we admired the artwork on the walls. Highly recommended for dog owners and families

Had the car in at Portslade Panelworks which left me with time to burn. The barber next door recommended Cafe Monella. The food was spot on and the owner made me feel welcome. We had quite a chat. If I have to be in the area again I will definitely be popping on again.

If you, especially if you are with your family, need a space to stop, have some food and chat away to your heart's content. You will not find another more welcoming cafe in this area than the Cafe Monella. The staff are chilled out. The food is healthy, cooked quickly and well prepared. Esoteric art covers the walls and the music is lo-fi and relaxed. My only complaint is that they have not franchised their business, move over Costa and Starbucks....I want another Monella near where I live.

Amazing child and pet friendly venue. Indoor and outdoor seating. There's even a trampoline in the garden for the kids! Great for coffee meetings, wifi access, relaxation while coffee drinking & reading a good book. It's modern interior design is fresh. There's even art and sculpture available to look at and buy. The food is fabulous and the vegetarian/vegan menu is super. Oh...and the staff are fantastic! Always smiling and willing to please!

This is a really nice spacious cafe I met a friend for breakfast on a cold winter's morning and couldn't have asked for a cosier spot It was during the working week and the other people were mainly mum's with young children, people working on laptops or having informal meetings The decor is very cool, the Dyson fighter jet on the ceiling made me smile They have a large trampoline in the garden area which will be great for children in warmer weather

This is a café where you feel welcome, the minute you walk in through the door. Sit in either the main café or on the terrace outside (weather permitting) and you'll be able to order and enjoy well-made (and priced) Italian classics like cannoli, lasagna, tortellini or straightforward English dishes (a la eggs, sausages and bacon!). Melissa, the owner, is always jovial and fast in delivering orders to the tables. It's worth a visit!

The garden at the back is south facing including sand pit and very safe trampoline for kids which meant we relax with our coffee and snacks in the sun while the kids enjoyed themselves. You can see from the decor on their facebook page it has been well thought out and very tastefully decorated Do you know of another cafe like this ? We dont. What more do you want ? Highly recommend

Before I decided to write this review, I took to reading a number of the other reviews that have been submitted and to be honest, I feel they have overhyped the place somewhat. Now please don't misunderstand me. I am not implying that I regard Monella's as dreadful. I don't. It's very nice place that is extremely unusual, given its location, but it's not the bees knees. What makes it stand out is, as I said, it's location. It exists in a rather tatty parade of shops in a less than attractive part of the Old Shoreham Road on the way to Worthing. In this respect then it's incongruous. Its other distinguishing feature is the mini chocolate croissants that they serve which are sublime. Several people have commented on the decor and the fact it has kids toys and books available. Speaking personally, I don't regard this holly remarkable. If anything, the internal decor is formulaic. That said, it does good coffee and its prices aren't extortionate. It would be nice if it served hot food. Sadly it doesn't. Overall, 7 out of 10. Go there if you're in that neck of the woods but it's not somewhere to make a specific beeline for.

What a great little cafe this is. We popped in after the Hove Park-run on Saturday and couldn't have felt more welcome. The owner (Mondella?) was absolutely brilliant with our little boy and the coffee and food was great. Everyone who came in was made to feel very welcome especially dog owners and families and Monella even went out of her way to pop next door and get a newspaper for one older customer. Highly recommended!

This place is pretty unique in Brighton for cafe + kids. It has great toy / book selection. A trampoline out back. The owner / host is probably the most child friendly person you could wish for. Food and coffee good, furniture kooky and interesting. So many cafes busier than this one, you really have to walk through the door with your kids and check this place out. Will be back soon,

Took a visit here recently with a friend on his recommendation, based on the knowledge of the owners, the artwork, and to support an independent coffee house that has plowed a great deal of time and energy into making this place both modern, creative yet family friendly. It is true, parking is potentially an issue, but I see no reason why you can't (as we did) park in the nearby retail park next to the petrol station, a mere 2 minutes away, and walk here. The artwork inside is amazing, and the owners are extremely knowledgeable on where everything has been sourced from. I particularly loved the original butchers table now being used as a table, the aircraft hung from the ceiling designed from old Dyson parts, and the stunning picture of the singer Madonna, in red riding hood style. We chose flat white coffee and some carrot cake as a late morning snack. Cake was divine, the coffee spot on. There were also plenty of savoury options available, and all generally priced in line with expectations for a modern artisan cafe. We were the only ones in the actual coffee shop, however there is a safe play area & garden at the rear for young children to amuse themselves in, and several families were making use of this while we were there.

This is definitely a place to go to relax, study or simply catch up with a friend. The coffee and cakes are amazing and the art around the café is great to look at and interesting. The safe and secure garden space is an added bonus for all, especially those with kids. With a trampoline, sand pit and a toddlers rocking horse it can keep them ammusd for ages. So if any of you are in the area Café Monella is definitely a place to check out ❤☕🍰 xXx
