If your looking for a bite to eat and don’t want to pay through the nose for a meal at a pub etc then this is the place, decent sized portions at decent prices! We had the minute steak with stilton 🤤 Well worth the money, the food was delicious and the girl serving was lovely! Only shame was i didn’t have any cash to leave a tip!

Fantastic sandwich shop in the heart of Keswick! We first visited a couple of years ago and were pleased to see the shop is still here today. They offer loads of choices for sandwiches, cobs, baguettes etc... meats, seafood, salad and more! I'm also a huge fan because they offer made-to-order gluten free sandwiches. It's so nice to have the choice of fillings and it also being a fresh lunch. They take dietary requirements seriously as when I asked for a GF sandwich, I was asked if I was Coeliac or not (which I am). The countertop was cleaned down, new gloves, new knife, new sandwich filling to avoid all cross-contamination. Fantastic, I couldn't say a bad word about our experience. The prawn with Marie rose sauce was delicious. Was around £5-7 each, depending on your filling. I'd recommend grabbing a sandwich from here to take on your long walk around the Lakes.

I’ve been getting my hillwalking lunches (cheese and onion bap, thank you very much!) from Jan’s for many many years, but since being diagnosed coeliac a few years ago, I’ve been ultra cautious. Following a number of really positive reviews we decided to drop by Jan’s recently for a lunch whilst mooching in Keswick. They’re so informed, careful, clue-up on cross-contamination and all the while so very kind and personable. My partner is dairy-free and the same care was given there too. A complete delight. Really helpful to know we can drop in for safe and very tasty lunch supplies and get a bit of friendly banter as well. Thank you! 🥰

Always visited this lovely little sandwich bar, made to order as you wait. Plenty of selection, meat, seafood, vegetarian options. A little pricey but as a treat it’s not so bad.

There was a queue outside the shop, which usually means it's good. I had chicken tikka baguette, it was large, lots of filling and very tasty, the girl kindly halved it for me. Thank you for a lovely lunch

It’s amazing, just go! Get all your walking pack ups sorted and you won’t regret it. Personal faves are the New Yorker and the Chicken, Bacon mayo.

Amazing gluten free bread and so many options! Great knowledge on coeliac disease, separate prep station and thoroughly cleaned, washed hands before making the sandwich, brought out separate ingredients to avoid cross contamination. Went once for lunch and ended up going back the next day for lunch and dinner!

The sandwich was good but the 2 girls working there were plain rude. (Tuesday September 6th). Not friendly at all and just looked like I was disturbing them. Customer service:0. Will never go back.

Greatest gluten free sandwiches EVER. Lovely bread rolls, separate prep area, separate butter, hands washed before starting, separate utensils, separate bag. Plus the most fabulous selection of fillings. Also GF crisps and a couple of separate wrapped GF cakes to add to your packed lunch. Non GF bread pretty good too. Would give more stars if I could. this is the best place in Keswick to get your lunch from. all kinds of different breads, rolls and even gluten free options. so much to choose from and made exactly how you want it! perfect for a picnic up on the fells.

My wife is coeliac and asked if gluten-free rolls were available. They were and the work station was cleaned thoroughly before the preparation of the roll. Seperate spread and fillings were used for the roll to avoid cross contamination. Excellent service and understanding of coeliac...

We visited this shop every morning to grab lunch to take hiking with us. Freshly made baguettes were really tasty every day. I enjoyed the chewy flapjack and my partner enjoyed the other homemade snacks equally. I looked forward to lunch everyday!

No trip to the Lakes is complete without a daily early morning visit to Jan's to collect lunch for the Fells. The selection of breads and fillings is outstanding.

So, having completed the Lakeland Trails 10k, I was ravenous so popped in for a bite. The turkey and smoked applewood was superb - a well filled baguette that just hit the spot. Definitely be back next time we're in Keswick!

Soup is great to take out..chicken tikka jackets to die for!! Such a good shop. Staff ask loads of questions so you get exactly what you want..the way it should be! 10/10 from me

Cannot speak highly enough of this shop. The food is just delicious and so varied - it’s never boring. The salads are fabulous. My favourite is one which includes goats cheese, kale, dates and almonds. To die for! My partner and daughter love the meat...

We popped by for lunch on the way back to the car after a day trip. Local gym and cheese for the hubby, and a lovely tuna crunch for me. Will definitely use again.

Have been visiting for several years now and always return to the Sandwich shop to pick up provisions for a days walking. There is a huge selection of fillings and various rolls to choose from and always really good value. Staff are friendly and efficient will be returning next time we visit the Lakes

Wow what a choice. There was a wide variety of breads and fillings. Everything was freshly made. You could also have a salad box.

We stopped in Keswick for a short break whilst on a 10 lake tour & this place ticked the box for food as we only had a limited amount of time - some very interesting choices not only with the fillings but also in what it’s put in. We both chose the Rueben on brown baguettes – salt beef with sauerkraut & gherkins – delicious pit stop.

With a tight schedule due to a number of activities I rang and arranged to pre-order and collect 18 sandwiches both Hot & Cold - Breakfast & Lunch. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Placed my order Friday morning over the phone and collected on Saturday morning as agreed. All the food was ready and freshly made, hot stuff still hot etc. Everyone is the group, 9 of us, agreed the food was lovely as usual and we'll doing the same on our annual trip next year. We had a range of sandiwches all of which were great. The only slight thing would be if I could of emailed my order through, maybe I'm simply being lazy......

Had the Turkey Saddle which had a lovely sage mayonnaise and the cranberry chutney was perfectly spiced and made it a rare treat. Much better than your average sandwich shop as the queues outside will attest (not that it took us long to get served despite the popularity). Great value too.

Called in when passing through Keswick as wanted a freshly made sandwich rather than a prepacked one. Ordered 2 sandwiches and was very surprised to see that although tongs were present in a number of the filling containers the lady serving me just plunged her hand straight into the lettuce, cucumber and tomatoes without any effort to use tongs. As one of the previous reviews mentioned I was surprised that gloves were not used and understand it may be inconvenient having to take a glove off when handling money, but many cafes and shops do this without issue. Seeing the sandwich maker scratch her upper bare arm and then butter a roll is slightly disconcerting. Yes, I could have left the shop and yes I could have questioned the two ladies serving on the shop hygiene procedures but I admit I was slightly taken aback and as this was a quick pit stop did not have the time to pursue this, so am hoping the manager will address my concerns? If it helps I visited in the morning on the 6th June.

Being a celiac is a pain, being a wheelchair using celiac is a double whammy. You find a good gluten free cafe but they’re not accessible. As my husband found reviews online about the gluten free options on offer here we decided to give it a go and we were not disappointed. I had the reuben, salt beef, sauerkraut, gherkin and Russian sauce. It was so good that we called in for another the day after to take home for our tea. It’s on a roll but a roll that tastes like bread.

I always get my sandwich lunches from Jan's shop. The only difficulty is choosing what filling to have from their vast selection! The selection of rolls is also very good and on this trip I also tried their flapjacks - first rate.

Usually make for this place when we need a packed lunch to eat on our walk. Disappointed in the past with Greggs unless you like sausage rolls. All the sandwiches are made fresh and to order with a very varied choice of add-ons and all carefully packaged and good value for money and adequate portions. Good family run enterprise. Back this month and keep up the good work.

The sandwiches here are by far the best I've ever had. baguettes freshly baked each day are always a favourite option with us. Huge variety of fillings to choose from, along with daily soups and hot fillings. Great for gluten free people too

Needing a quick lunch before we headed to Cat’s Bells I tried the soup of the day which was a delicious mushroom. The OH had a cheddar and ham baguette with what looked like thick cut baked ham, he pronounced it great quality.

We ordered packed sandwiches from The Lakeland Sandwich Shop every morning before our hikes. There was a large selection of fillings and the best part was that they were able to make gluten-free sandwiches for our celiac family members.

We called into the Lakeland Sandwich Shop just before we started our journey home and we intended to stop during the journey for a break to have something to eat and stretch our legs. We arrived when the shop had just opened and after looking at the board with details of sandwiched we decided on a roast ham sandwich and a roast ham and salad sandwich, both these were in soft white rolls. They were freshly made for us and the price was very reasonable. About half way home we stopped at Wetherby service area and had the sandwiches and they were very good, the bread rolls were fresh and the ham was real freshly cut ham and not processed ham. The selection of sandwiches included cold meats, hot sandwiches, vegetarian sandwiches and many others. They also do breakfasts to take out in the morning and sweet cakes.

I dropped into this shop to buy some sandwiches for myself, my wife and my in-laws before heading to Fitz Park with our little girl. We ordered sandwiches called New Yorkers which are filled with pastrami, salami, pickles, Swiss cheese, mustard and mayonnaise (you can choose to have salad or not) - simply put, they were unbelievable!

Have purchased our rolls, (The moistest, sweetest, loveliest Carrot Cake ever) and various drinks, snacks, here on many occasions when we are in the Lakes, always friendly, beautifully made fresh rolls, never skimp on the fillings, cater for all tastes and leanings, wrapped well and always so tasty and authentic with very good quality ingredients, and they are very reasonable, the bad reviewer's were very unlucky in my opinion, and I'm sure the owners would have been happy to rectify if given the chance? We love it .......then again, we've owned a busy Sandwich Bar in a seaside Town, so like to think we know the difference between good and bad !

Ordered 4 difference sandwiches. All very full and well made. I could only eat half of mine as it was that large. Excellent choice and service.

I was really disappointed with meatball sandwich. For £3.50 there was just few cold meatballs inside no sauce or anything else. I know that I probably haven’t read menu but in any other place meatball sandwich comes with tomato sauce.

We chose this because it offers gluten free breads as well as a wide range of others. As for the fillings - what a huge choice there is to offer - from breakfast fillings to lots of lunch options - all freshly made and locally sourced. As for the taste - they're delicious! A generous for size for a very reasonable price. Great option for a long day's walk in the surrounding Lake District. Well worth a visit!
