Fantastic local pub. Proper old school local drinkers' established. Friendly owner, friendly locals, loads of character and charm... feels like stepping back in time to what pubs used to be. Best of all, you can count on a chat with Aura, the pub cat, who's invariably to be found occupying her favourite chair.

After spending the morning decorating, we were on our way from Oakhill to Frome when we found this pub. It was the middle of the afternoon on a bank holiday Monday, but they were serving food all day, and my dog was welcome too. I had a vegetable Thai curry which was absolutely delicious, and Chris had Hungarian goulash. It was beautifully presented, and we even found room for the gorgeous puddings. Will definitely return.

The quality, the presentation and the taste of food was simply magic. You will be also impressed by the extreme clean chairs, tables and carpets which you don't often find in your local pub. Friendly environment situated in a little corner of paradise. I would hightly suggest to try the sirloin steak for only £12 cooked at perfection, the meat pie and the chocolate pudding.Fabulous lunch at an outstanding price. I've been fortunate to see and hear Tim Pitman twice at the Knatchbull. The second time he was accompanied by Hayley Jones, a classically trained soprano. Pete and Sunny the host and hostess are particularly friendly.

Enjoyed a night out with friends at The Knatchbull. Food was good, enjoyable entertainment and evening was good value. The Thai food and the curries were tasty and would recommend. We were not in a rush and when we wanted to order sweets were told Kitchen had closed, however, the Landlord said he would see what he could do. We had our sweets, tasty and again reasonably priced.

My wife and I called in at this pub totally by chance on a cross journey looking for a light lunch. No sandwiches but the bar staff ( and locals) were lovely and helpful and came up with lots of suggestions. We plumpted for Thai fish cakes with a chili dipping sauce which came with a light salad. It was all delicious. The pub had featured at an important high level meeting in WW 2 and this was highlighted in the bar - very very interesting. A little bit off the beaten track but well worth the effort.

The fish is provided by a local spearfishing expert; on the menu is: bass, plaice, flounder, sole, pollack, red and grey mullet and during peak summer months exotics like john dory, triggerfish, gilthead bream and even monkfish! All fish are hand captured by way of spear and feediving to furnish the locals with probably the freshest and tastiest fish in the UK. service is friendly and fast. This place accepted our restaurant reservation for our group, by telephone, no problem. On arrival we placed our meal order and drinks at the bar and were given our wait time, which was acceptable.Eventually, after an hour, the food began to arrive, after we began questioning where it had got to.This restaurant managed to completely mess up the service .I have never known any thing like the wait we had.We had three children in the group and they were very hungry and upset. Also, we arrived at 7 pm, on time for our reservation.Last meal was served at 930pmI have to say it was not the fault of the bar staff, they tried their best and apologised to us repeatedly.Eventually the manager....if you can call him that.....had to be dragged out to see usHe was rude to us, arrogant and not forthcoming with an apology.Quote...he said...you got your food didn't you!!!Eat here as a family party at your own risk of receiving extremely bad service and the sharp end of the managers tongueOnly good thing was that the food was actually good.

The Knatchbull Arms is very much a village pub, the food is excellent. Not a huge range of starters, however, the Prawn Cocktails came with lots of tasty prawns and tasty slices of bread. Look forward to having a different starter on another visit. We found our main courses really delicious, Thai Green Chicken Curry & Caribbean Chicken, with the Lemon Brulee for afters a great way to finish the meal. Pricing of main meals and sweets is very reasonable and with the quality is excellent value.

After many years we returned to the Knatchbull for Sunday lunch yesterday. What a treat! There were three roasts on offer so the three of us each had a different one and I sampled all three! The half-chicken was almost more than my wife could manage. The landlord is a charming host and has done a great job refurbishing the pub. A series of smart but tasteful display boards give information about aspects of the village as well as one describing a day during WW2 when the pub was the venue for a hugely important gathering of 'top brass', amid intense security, including Eisenhower, Montgomery, Patton and Macarthur! This is a local with a fabulous history but more importantly, has a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. We shall be visiting again soon for some of Sunny's Thai specials, which we hear are fantastic. Good luck to Peter and Sunny. This place deserves to be on everyone's 'must visit' list!

The Knatchbull has had a tasteful re-furb and is very welcoming both in atmosphere and staff, in fact I think would be even better if the manager relaxed a little more, perhaps that will come if they continue to do well with the bookings. There are plenty of other choices as well as the Thai food - all at very reasonable prices but I have only had the Thai option on the 2 occasions I have eaten there so can't really comment on the rest. Fish was excellent - where did they get such big sea bass? Only criticism from our table of 4 and another across the way, was that the seemingly helpful 1, 2 or 3 chilli signs on the menu didn't seem to always relate to how hot the dishes were, a 1 chilli soup was very spicy indeed. It would be nice too if the meals didn't come with a set amount of chilli but you could choose how much yourself. A seabass really doesn't need to be blown out of the water (forgive the pun) by quite so much heat - its a fairly delicate thing, but it came as a 3 chilli item which I coped with but don't think being that hot added anything. Maybe you can change it admittedly I didn't think to ask..

This has been my 'regular' for 33 years and I've always enjoyed the ambience, the roaring open fire in winter and the selection of drinks. However, recent events (a short-stay landlord who actually ran out of beer!) have influenced me to go further afield. Now, Pete and Sunny are at the helm and transforming the place, improving seating arrangements for eating and, best of all, introducing a thai flavoured element to the cuisine, Sunny being from Thailand. The whole place is being given a much-needed facelift and people, including families (for many years, children were not terribly welcome), are returning. It's still a question of 'watch this space' - but I'm most pleased with progress to date and entirely optimistic. Well worth a try!

A Village pub - First time I have eaten here since the new management (Peter & Sunny) took over a few months ago. Being a bit of a non-meat eater I browsed the menu which to my delight offered a great selection for both meat eaters & non-meat eaters - I opted for the Roasted Veg Jalfrezi but having a general conversation with Peter, the landlord, he offered a different alternative when I did mention I do love Thai food - he offered me "off the menu" a Green Thai Veg Curry - which I must admit was most delicious - very fragrant & spicy - yummy - presented with a Thai Jasmine Rice on the side - portion size good especially as I was very hungry having done a physical day's voluntary work beforehand - I would recommend this pub for it's host's greeting, food & atmosphere. The attention from the staff was very good - thank you for the table service for my wine Chris.

Since writing my first review back in May when new management took, over we have been back to the pub numerous times, both with and without the children. The food choice has expanded greatly with the noted addition of Steak. I tried this on Friday night and it was lovely. I'm a fussy eater, especially with steak, but it was delicious. The rest of the menu is great too. Mixture of heat with the Thai dishes which is good as Hubby likes hot and I don't really do spice. I usually go for the yellow or sweet red when's it's available, love the sticky rice. With the Thai Thursdays and Steak Wednesdays being added it makes eating there even cheaper. Food is reasonably priced and a bargain once you realise how we'll cooked everything is. Could do with more in the way of side dishes, onion rings, garlic bread etc but the servings are large enough not to need them.Roast dinners are huge. I struggled to fit pudding in and I always find room for pudding usually. Speaking of which, they are great too. My personal fave is the crumble but there are more options to satisfy your sweet tooth. The addition of ice cream milkshakes gives the children something different to drink.Pete and Sonny have done a fantastic job since opening in May. The pub is a lovely place to spend a few hours with friends, or family. The staff are friendly and helpful and it's always clean. Entertainment nights are frequent and popular. The Knatchbull is our our local but we have not been there since it changed ownership a little while ago. Previously it was standard pub grub, so we happened to drop in on Thai night (Thursday) - good deal on Thai dishes but with the rest of the menu available.I ordered the hot Thai sea bass with garlic and black pepper with jasmine rice. The verdict: perfectly cooked fish, a beautifully balanced mix of peppers, coriander & chilli and a sweet fragrant broth. with a side of Sticky jasmine rice. It was hot but i like it that way, i was assured that the heat could be toned down to taste.I really cannot fault anything I ate (and I have eaten at the Mandarin Hotel in Bangkok). My only hope is that the menu is expanded with some Pad-Thai and Gaeng pa dishes. As a local, it's good to know they do a take away as well!
