Lovely place! Great location! 4 adults and 3 children popped in midmorning for drinks and a snack while waiting for others out on the boat. They didn’t have anything snacky available at that time so we ordered some toast and the staff were so accommodating and brought out some little extras for the kids. Delicious food, lovely drinks! All round great experience!

Ordered salmon & scrambled egg on sourdough x 2 with iced coffees…£33 needed a chain saw to cut the bread, scrambled egg was loaded with black pepper not complimented saturated! The salmon plentiful but looked too risky to consume…. 🤔 Returned and questioned the dish, when I said Gordon Ramsey wouldn’t have fed it to the dogs she laughed and offered something else….. Crying shame when the locals are the bread and butter of the KITCHEN during the winter…..it’s not difficult for the chef to prepare a simply dish as described, go learn from Pascals in the square or watch Hells Kitchen for ways to improve!

Stopped off at The Kitchen for a drink while the teens in our party had a watersport session on the Marina with the intention of all having lunch once they’d finished. Received such a rude ‘welcome’ we didn’t bother staying, there is a much nicer place next door.

Alot of people leaving miserable reviews about this cafe/restaurant. My partner and I came down camping for a few days and decided to eat breakfast here one morning. We sat outside because the heat inside (from the sun) was unbearable so it was lovely to sit with a breeze by the boats. Food ordered as pictured came out within 10 minutes, if that. Was absolutely delicious and very filling - perhaps on the pricier size at £25 for everything in the photo but only £5 or so more than any other average cafe we'd have gone to. Was worth paying the extra for the location and service. The cafe was extremely clean, well decorated and friendly atmosphere once entered. Staff were helpful considering we'd never been there before. Was also given a free 2 hour parking voucher so no need to worry about that. They had a ranged menu for both breakfast and lunch. Would definitely go again if we were in the area.

It was our second time heading to the Kitchen for breakfast. We ordered x2 large breakfasts which came out but the server not knowing who had ordered it because there is no table number or order number! They both had a couple things missing from each plate, we asked if they had been forgotten for which the waitress replied "Im not sure" we asked if she could check, which she did, and we were told they have been replaced for an extra tomato. Sure enough we got some extra hash browns a few minutes later. (Thankyou!) Another gentleman was sat next to us on his own politely asked from some brown sauce when his breakfast was served in which the same waitress replied "You will have to get it yourself" leaving a full breakfast outside on the table with plenty of seagulls about also probably not the best idea! (Also it wasnt particularly busy at this point) Anyway he walked back inside and after a minute he couldnt find any sauce and asked the waitress if there was any and then replied "No we dont have any" after sending the gentleman looking... (obviously this wasnt our own personal experience however it was something we couldn't ignore) The food was very nice and fair priced! We would love to keep coming back. However the staff need some customer service training and order numbers may speed things up lots!

The premises is clean and comfortable. A really great situation overlooking the marina. We were told the menu was on the board on the wall which was fine. We chose fish and chips and were told there was no fish. My friend then said he would have macaroni cheese and was told it wasn't available. There was pie of the day on the board but no pies were available! How difficult can it be to remove items from the board that aren't available? To be fair the food we had was ok but the whole place gave the impression of poor organisation and an uncaring attitude.

Whilst the food was enjoyable, the service was lacking. We had the 'kitchen burger' and 'fish finger sandwich' and were impressed with both. Great quality and a really good portion size. For every single simple question we posed to staff (e.g. do we order with you at the till / wait to be seated, where can I find the sauces? Can I have a car park ticket) were met with a careless attitude. We were made to feel like we were repeatedly an inconvenience. It didn't feel crazy busy, but can totally appreciate if you are short staffed then you may be more easily frustrated. However, we were polite and friendly and were asking simple questions that weren't explained from the get-go (that perhaps usually would be, as every restaurant operates differently). No sign of a kids menu (we had a two year old with us) and so we ended up having to choose an adult portion. We parked on the marina which advertised it was refundable if you ate at a restaurant on site, and then were treated as if the request for the code was a major inconvenience. Overall, this made us feel like we weren't welcome. Not sure if we just caught the staff on a bad day, but the location was lovely and so was the restaurant itself.

Such a shame. This was our second visit, the first was lovely. We ordered the Chicken Burger, Fishfinger sandwich and Marie Rose Prawn sandwich. The chips were triple cooked and delicious, but the ‘fish fingers’ were cod in batter the bread was very dry and inedible and our coffee was cold. The chicken was dry and tasteless. Lovely staff but very disappointing food etc.

My husband had gammon & chips which was huge and I had the kitchen burger which was really tasty, and the beer was lovely. Good coffee, even better customer service for our takeout coffees and hot chocolate. We took a trip to Portland Marina to take in the views and found this restaurant which does takeout coffee. We ordered coffee to-go and then started walking but then our eldest asked to get a hot chocolate so I headed back with him to order hi hot chocolate. The girl serving asked my son if he wanted marshmallows. Of course he said “yes.” A few minutes later she presented my son with a hot chocolate- to his delight. But, she had also made a small hot chocolate and a small cup of marshmallows for our youngest, which was amazing. It was a real surprise and very unexpected. Very kind and just great customer service. We will be back again to return the gesture. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the name of the waitress but we are very thankful for her kindness.

We sat next to a couple who still waiting for their full English, they waited over an hour and 15mins. The atmosphere was awful as everyone was complaining not having their breakfast yet? This delay was caused by the Navy ordering massive order of breakfast rolls. As we were leaving the 2 chefs were sat outside smoking, while the poor service/waitress was dealing with angry customers. she even came out to look for the chefs and they did not looked bothered at all. Fantastic food We had a late lunch here in the week. Front of house were friendly and accommodating, although not on the menu they made a cheese sandwich for our toddler. The ham, egg and chips was great. The ham thick cut and tasty. My fish finger sandwich matched. Coffees were nice, a wide range of milk alternatives were available. We didn’t stay for cake, but judging how many empty trays there were they were clearly popular. The decor was modern and fresh and very in-keeping with the setting. This is now our go to cafe in the marina complex and we’ll certainly be back.

2nd time here, first was great. This time not so great. Ordered a dish with pita, came out with flat bread. Asked where my pita was. After asking again on his return to our table, they had apparently run out (half their menu includes pita and never busy so can’t understand why they have run out) kitchen hadn’t communicated this with the staff apparently, and I said I didn’t like flat bread and would never have ordered that dish. Brushed off and no offer to change it. I was really hungry as hadn’t eaten all day so ate what I refer to as cardboard, but I didn’t enjoy it. No one came back to our table during our meal to check everything was ok. We would have had more drinks at £17.25 (2 drinks 😱, one of these drinks has gone up £1.80 since 5th September! Not risking ordering pudding just incase they had run out and decided to swap with something else, and not communicate it with us, we didn’t spend a further £32.25 and went to the boat that rocks for drinks and pudding. Ps Haloumi does need to be cooked to a golden brown colour, when it comes out, white… it’s not cooked properly. It should be a bit soft not hard as it was last night. Such a shame as it was great to have another place to eat in the marina, sadly not for us.

Ham was bacon that was so salty needed to drink a bottle of water straight afterwards. And the "Chef" could not even cook the eggs that just looked almost raw. To be fair I have to say the bottle of cold water was nice. I can not understand why the management are simply not reacting to the comments on here. Please be warned that the negative comments on here are experience that we share. I am happy that some people had a positive experience but it really does sound like it's pot luck on the day. Had a bit of a shocker half way through our Sunday lunch, which was OK in fairness, when literally gallons of water flooded all over our table from a leak above the ceiling. All the landlord did was to aggressively tell my partner to take her plate off the table, as she was desperately trying to get her personal belongings away from the flood of water. He then professed that "this happens all the time"! It turned out a washing machine had flooded upstairs, the water went all over us, our belongings and our food. Although one of the waiting staff apologised later, we were not shown to a new table and just left to sort our selves out. We were not offered a replacement and no concession was offered. I would advise looking at the ceiling above where you are sitting for water damage as apparently "it happens all the time". In retrospect it had some Fawltey towers hilarity for which I awarded a second star but not a great culinary experience at the time.
