The best thing to say about our Sunday roast experience was the friendly and helpful waiting staff. We were a group of 10 that pre-ordered. Food barely warm. Vegetables hard, pork appeared to be slices purchased from wholesalers (not off a joint) and very fatty. Puddings miniscule. Won't be going back there again

Went full of anticipation as it was under new management after I last visited! Had the Sunday roast there was ten of us who booked to eat and they asked us to pre-book our menu choices as there was so many of us! Well the first black mark was being told that they couldn't tell us what roast meats would be on the menu for that day, we could only find out on the day when ordering! I ordered the small plate on the day ,and we were told the meat choice was either pork or beef! Well when it came out I thought this looks nice, but was quickly disappointed! It was barely warm! The parsnips were Rock hard and rubbery and the roast potatoes had I am sure been deep fried and not roasted and some were hard in the middle! Nice selection of fresh veg but again barely warm! And as for the beef? Well words fail me, again pretty sure the meat didn't come off of a freshly cooked joint it was very fatty and grisly! The Yorkshire was about the best thing of the meal it looked home made and not a freezer one! As I had left a lot of the meal I ordered dessert! Again disappointed a very small portion and not worth the price of £5.50! At least the cream was fresh and plentiful though! Such a shame as the Kingsdown is a lovely pub and we have had some lovely family get togethers there in the past! The chef/cook needs to pull there socks up and stop trying to cut corners! !!

So living around the corner from the kingsdown we’ve had many Sunday dinners and lunches at the pub. The staff are always welcoming and service is always reasonable but since the change off management the food has hit rock bottom. I would love to give the rating between 1 and 10 and I wouldn’t even give it a 1. This is why A beef Sunday roast The beef was so tuff even the knife supplied wouldn’t cut it, and that’s if you could find a reasonable size bit of beef to cut as the majority of it was fat. The gravy had mint sauce in it which was extremely over powering and in my opinion shouldn’t be served with beef. The vegetables looked like they had fallen on the floor and walked on and definitely wasn’t fresh. The broccoli was uncooked and looked past its date. The stuffing was more like play Dow, very dry and bland in taste. What was once a brilliant place to eat has gone massively down hill and the photos above are from the last managers. The food on the plate just looked a mess with no thought into presentation. There also no point paying for a large as it’s served on the same size plate as a small. It’s a shame but if it improves I will add a review.

The Landlords and staff are all very friendly and welcoming, the pub is a very old building full of history and interest. We didn’t feel cramped or over shadowed by other diners as the tables were well spaced.Every where was spotlessly clean. There was a good choice of menu and the food was served hot and looked appealing. We enjoyed a medium cooked steak which was cooked perfectly and very tender. We shall be going again to try other items on the menu.

With all the doom and gloom i decided to go out and grab some lunch thinking that everywhere would be quiet and i would easily get a table somewhere. I decided to go for Sunday lunch at the Kingsdown as i have heard that the current chef is fantastic. I was not disappointed. The Sunday roast was beautiful. i had a large beef roast dinner with all the trimmings. The food was well cooked and pipping hot. I asked for stuffing as this doesn't come with the beef and they were happy to assist with my request. I was lucky to get a table as the place was packed and rightly so with the roast dinners that were being served up. It was a lovely meal and was made to feel very welcome by the staff. Our waitress Chelsea could do enough for us and she was left a tip for her great attention to detail.

The first time we’ve had Sunday lunch here for a few years. It was lovely, piping hot and very tasty. They give you a small extra jug of gravy with each meal so you don’t have to ask and it was delicious. Also they do small, medium and large plates, we both had medium which was a bit to big for me so I’ll go for the small next time. Definitely worth a visit. Veggies were perfectly cooked.

Visited on Thursday for my birthday celebrations! I had the lasagne and it was delicious!! 4 members of the party had the rump steak and they all said it was cooked perfectly! Everything was cooked fresh and came out piping hot. This was my first visit after many recommendations and I will definitely be making a return visit soon. Thank you for making my birthday meal really lovely!

Popped in with my Nan for lunch, Sarah behind the bar who listen to my nan tell her story of a fish head in Greece. The food was amazing; nan had the pan fried seabass and mash which she thoroughly enjoyed. I myself was treated to a wonderful chicken and bacon taglatelli in a creamy sauce which was beyond delicious. Thank you so much for a lovely meal and we will definitely be returning. Tia and Grace

We met up here with some friends for a pre Christmas meal, we haven’t been for a couple of years so were not sure what to expect but were not disappointed. It looked as though it had had a bit of a refurb and was nicely decorated for Christmas. Most of all,on a cold evening,it was lovely and warm!. The meal took a little while to come out as they were busy but one of the team came out and apologised for the wait and when it did come out it was well worth waiting for. Very hot, big portion and very tasty, four empty plates went back to the kitchen. We will certainly go back.

The oldest pub in Arkell's chain, it sits opposite the Brewery. Good quality food and selection of beers with areas inside to bring your 'well behaved' dog. For better weather there is also a large garden area with tables.

My wife and I needed a fairly quick meal before going to a meeting nearby one evening. The Kingsdown staff were incredibly accommodating. Despite being quite busy they responded to our needs and we had a very good pub meal of fish and.chips for my wife and gammon steak for myself. The service and friendliness of the staff was excellent in a pub with a nice atmosphere.

I normally have a lovely experience,i am used to the lovely focused staff and incredible drinks however, the staff that was serving on the 4th of june were unfocused, chatting to each other which left me and other customers waiting for about 10 mins, took them ages to make as they were chatting and gossiping! i normally don’t like writing reviews but felt this was necessary:/ photo is supposed to be a mint choc chip frostino 🤦♀️

We fancied a change from the hotel restaurant and the menu the Freke Arms offered had plenty of gluten-free options as well. We booked and received a message back quickly confirming the booking. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table promptly. Menu options were explained clearly and there were several specials on offer. The food we received was plentiful and very tasty indeed and the beer and wine were delicious. All the staff were friendly and we had a good chat about the pub as it had a bit of history. Karen and her staff went above and beyond and the service we received was first class. If we are ever in the area again we would certainly stop by the Freke Arms for a meal.
