This is the most racist place in swindon : if you are any one but white - do not even bother trying to get a reservation here or other places in old town in Swindon . This is a very racist town and so is godddard arms - racist to the core - If you are anything but white - do not enter these places

If I could give zero, I would. Expensive drinks. Sticky floors and as for the way staff and customers are treated by some. Witnesses first hand bullying of staff. Shocking!

We will never step our foot in this place and ours friends and family as well not because of the hotel but the white racist poorest customer service guy who was at the bar with black sweater. We went there for a early afternoon drink after a big breakfast and long working hours on weekdays , we in turns use restroom and as I was just asking my hubby what he like to drink, this most egoistic attitude guy came and ask if we like any drink? I said we are deciding and he right away said you have few minutes to order , to my surprise I ask him are they closing soon? He said no, but we need to order drinks quickly as we were there like 5 mins already. I said we are just about to and he starting insulting us how we had not ordered any drinks yet and this is a business and we can’t be just around there with no drinks. Are you for real, anywhere in this world in any bar or restaurant nobody talks like that, we are world travelers, in fact they give good time to their guests to decide especially when you are not busy and it was empty early noon with only a group of people for business gathering. We had stayed in their room, partied lots of live music and had lots of meets with friends but today we were treated beyond imagination with so much dis respect and his angry tons we feel threaten. He then went literally shouting to the bar, giving us bad words to the nice, professional and very accommodating lady. She was really nice , I saw how she handled and cared for their guests unlike this rubbish guy. In UK this is our worst experience. We just did not want to even see or stand his face , so we walked out and haded the hall and Woodhouse for drinks instead. My point is do not judge or insult anyone. We had run and had business in the past and we know exactly how is customer service. We are not those people hanging out , we love dining and trying different pubs and restaurants. Don’t tell us that you are running a restaurant to guests who just took 5 mins to order drinks as they need to use loo and decide what to order period. I have lots of people working in old town , I will find out this guy name and warm people for future visit especially if he is working.

I've visited the Kings many times over the years but generally, it's been a late afternoon or an early evening before I've headed home. This time, I was out for a special occasion with my 74-year-old Mother, our friend, and my fella, so we arrived between 9:30 and 10 pm. The atmosphere is completely different at night and not a friendly vibe at all. The club was not busy either, which tells a story in itself and there seemed to be an excess of bouncers who seemed to like to wield their little bit of power around. My friend got told off for laughing too loudly (how can you laugh too loud in a nightclub) and my Mum said the doormen were very aggressive and kept staring at myself, my fella and our friend in a confrontational manner. My Mum rushed over and the doorman then stepped away but the atmosphere was intimidating and not somewhere you could just relax and have a laugh. Had I previously looked at the reviews, then I would have seen all the warnings from the guests with similar experiences. Unfortunately, I hadn't thought to look but the simplest solution is not to return again. It's a real shame as I've sat in the Kings many times in the day and it's been a completely different experience but the atmosphere we experienced that night has put us all off. In my opinion, doormen should be there for the safety of the public and staff and to ensure there are no fights or anything dangerous taking place, not to act as overbearing schoolteachers, who reprimand you for laughing or enjoying yourself. My mother said it seemed as if the doormen were looking to create trouble. Still, it's up to the club who they employ and which customers they welcome, even if it does seem that would mean hardly any at all. It's a shame for the club as they must be making a loss at the moment with more bouncers than customers. I've given it 1 star out of 5 but I would give it minus 5 if I could. Visit at your own peril.

Well…. What can I say? The most horrendous hotel I have had the misfortune to stay in!! We were aware that the hotel turns into a nightclub at the weekends- until 3.00am. But we were not made aware of the noise, screaming, shouting and fighting outside in the hotel garden below our room. The fire alarm was set off by some drunken idiot smoking in their room. This resulted in abuse being thrown at security and people being evicted from the hotel at 4am. Finally peace and quiet ….. oh no, here we go dragging all the Bar furniture back into the bar area -( this is all cleared out at 11pm for the night club dance floor- leaving no seats for hotel residents/guests). Why they feel the need to empty the bottle bin at 04.45am is completely beyond me??. Breakfast was pre-ordered on arrival- although website states there is no breakfast served on Sunday mornings- we were served breakfast. I wish they hadn’t- it was disgusting, cold food on cold plates! When we complained it was taken back to the kitchen and nuked to death in the microwave- thus resulting in a radioactive rubbery congealed plate of breakfast food that I wouldn’t feed to my dog! On a good point the bedrooms were comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. The pile of vomit on the landing in the morning just about finished the weekend off!! Would I stay again- definitely NOT. Very over priced and noisy.

Awful place mainly spoilt by the poor attitude of the ego inflated bouncers. Bar staff unfriendly and toilets unclean.

We were looking for somewhere to have a drink and this was the perfect place. Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly, we also never had to wait long for a drink. We found a seat easily and enjoyed the atmosphere.

I called in for drinks before dinner ( I have visited here before) The bar is well laid out, with a good choice of drinks. The prices are also good considering where you are.

Went to the kings on sat, been going there for years, can’t believe how rude and aggressive the female bouncer is. A couple of weeks ago, she let some bloke in with a pair of shorts, but she would not let my son in on sat, saying he had a pair of joggers on when he didn’t. He has been for interviews in these trousers, she was just picking on us. He went to longs and tree, he asked them if his trousers looked like joggers, they said no, I said to her they are trousers, she said no they are not, she was having none of it. She is very unwelcoming, she was shouting at people and they walked off, you are losing a lot of custom because of her, get someone happy and friendly

IF ONLY I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE A 0* RATING!!!! The so called ‘woman’ on the door, whatever it was, is an extremely arrogant, aggressive, obnoxious person. Short , grey haired security. They apparently ‘have a dress code’ to which this particular security guard must have no idea of any fashion sense. She/ it refused me entry even though my black, smart, straight leg ‘trousers’ (not joggers) are from Zara - a fashionable, smart wear company. She became abusive and completely overreacted. I literally wore these trousers to other bars and a recent interview which by them were considered totally fine, however, this person thrives off of trouble. This individual needs the right training, to ensure clientele aren’t wrongly sent away. Outrageous. Evidentially she’ll get nowhere in life speaking to people the way she does. On Friday and Saturday evenings till 3 am it becomes a night club. But it's the worst nightclub I've been to. The resident DJ plays boring pop music that appeals to the fat women dancing around hoping to get pulled by pot bellied middle aged men who think they look dead cool standing around with their bottles of Bud. They do sell Arkells beers which aren't too bad although not great, but I've never been one for drinking in nightclubs so that's an irrelevance to me. We could stand no more than a quarter of an hour of this before we left and went to Kioki. Kioki is as good as you're getting in Swindon.

The owner needs to get a hold of who they have on the doors. The female bouncer has made not mine but a large number of people's night and events awful by being on a power trip. Thinking she owns the place and selectively intimidating, accusing, attacking or banning people from the Kings on her own say so. Would highly recommend not using the venue for hiring events as and wasting your time attempting to try get in there on a night out, if she doesnt like the look of you she will make your night an awful experience .

Hired the upstairs function room for my brothers 21st birthday. Bar staff were great however, the bouncers ruined the night. My partner had left to go to the shop with his friend, he then came back and they let the friend in and wouldn’t let my partner back in. He was sober, not drunk in the slightest. I asked why they weren’t allowing him in and one extremely rude female bouncer said ‘I don’t need to give you a reason’. I proceeded to explain it was my brothers birthday party upstairs but they continued to say no with no valid reason. They then said that they had been watching him and he was swaying, he was not swaying in the slightest and was sober. The female bouncers attitude was absolutely appalling, seemed like she was on a power trip. The other bouncers were also extremely rude. The bar staff had already ID’d each one of us when getting drinks yet several bouncers throughout the night continued to come up and ask for ID’s, although I’d already stated several times everyone was over 18 and already had been ID’d at the bar. Would not recommend in the slightest for function hire, unless you want to be ID’d throughout the whole night and have bouncers speak to you like utter rubbish. Appalled to say the least.

Had a business meeting here and were treated very well. Lunch was decent and they were very good with teas/coffees/refreshments. After we had drinks outside in the bar - would definitely recommend.

Extremely friendly service. Timing just right. We had lamb flat bread and it was perfect x Fresh salad and lamb was beautiful x could not fault it. Sat in the snug. Decor is good. Meal was £9.50 plus a mineral water so very good value x been before coffee x definitely going again x

Thought we would bring our friend who was visiting from Lanzarote to the Kings Hotel for a chill chat & nice coffee.... So we ordered our coffee's, waited & waited for them to come with the coffee's, all we could see was two young women, chatting about boyfriends, making the coffee as slow as they could...when we eventually got the coffee's...they were cold, when we told the women, they looked shocked..we asked for our money back...wich they did...but very disappointed as such a nice setting... Wont be back.....Wednesday 22nd March around 3.pm

Just been for mother's Day and had the carvery.1 course for £16.95 or 2 courses for £22.95 which is a main and pudding. .Lovely food and choice of 2 meats.Lots of lovely veg to choose from. All the staff were very attentive. Know where we are going for a roast on a Sunday!!

It all works food wise but waiting staff need some training. Customers come before them, don’t push in.

We stayed Saturday night for a party in the function room. Upon checking in, apart from the girl who served us who was laughably terrible and slow (Seriously it was comical), everything seemed fine. Room looked good, nice bathroom.... Then we saw that directly below our room was the smoking area, and the window was old fashioned single glazing. Hmm... still never mind I sleep like a log and we will be having a few bevvies so Armageddon doesn't usually stop me sleeping. The party was nice, food was lovely, again the staff were quite clueless (a friend asked for fizzy water and was asked what that was!) Off we went to our room about 11.30-12ish, a little bit tipsy... Well we may as well have tried to sleep in the nightclub itself... The noise from downstairs was so loud. It wasn't the music so much, it was the laughing, screaming shouting and loud singing from the outside area. We could actually follow along with conversations. Thank God I had my noise cancelling headphones with me, although sleeping in big headphones was not easy. My poor partner was not so fortunate and barely slept at all. This went on until 3am... Then what sounded like someone playing call of duty on an xbox started up and went on until about 4am, along with people running around the corridors.. Worst nights sleep ever.. I know it says on the website about it being a late night venue but seriously you should NOT be selling rooms that are impossible to sleep in. As I said I usually sleep really well and after a few glasses of wine a bit of noise wont matter but this was beyond ridiculous. Breakfast was nice though, the one saving grace. So by all means go for a drink and some food but DO NOT STAY unless you are extremely hard of hearing!!

This is our go to place in Old Town for a Sunday Roast. I am only reviewing it based on our experience in this capacity. Excellent and abundant roast, self serve carvery with all the trimmings - Choice of three meats and a veg and fish option made to order. Sides include roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, pigs in blankets, stuffing, carrots, parsnip, cabbage, cauliflower cheese with gravy and sauces to compliment each meat choice. Portion size is up to you! Very satisfying and warming meal, they accommodate large groups, with a choice if private rooms, great if you have babies/children like we did. Desserts were gorgeous, particularly the vanilla bean ice cream, best I’ve ever tasted! Really recommend for a family roast with a buzzing atmosphere. Only negative is drink service can be slow, as others have mentioned, younger members of staff and perhaps understaffed due to illness.

Booked a table for two at 12.30 on Sunday for the carvery it was cooked to our liking I had the Beef my Wife opted for the Turkey the Vegetables and accompanying sauces were plentiful and tasty for sure we will return the Young Ladies were polite as was the Manager nothing was a problem Thank You all for an Excellent meal .

What a wonderful team at 20 The Kings! We had to unfortunately cancel our works Team Christmas lunch with only one days notice, due to safety with the latest covid announcements. But I didn’t want the food that had been ordered in to go to waste. I asked Gemma, who was our brilliant contact at The Kings, if there was any way they could still cook & box the food up for the homeless. Even with an already manic schedule, Gemma was straight on it for us & arranged with the Chefs to have our meals cooked & boxed up in takeaway containers. The Chefs, Mike & John went out of their way to do this for us….even bought better takeaway containers in preparation! The meals looked amazing….gravy put into pots & cold desserts boxed up as well. It was all ready for me to collect to deliver to Threshold Charity, who had arranged for the food to be taken to people in need. The Chefs were so happy to help & did an incredible job & so did Gemma….many thanks to them for their kindness!

Stayed Friday evening 10th September, Paid £85 for a "Double room" which was the size of a hamster cage. No blinds up in bathroom so people in London court building can literally watch you showering. Rude staff. Went down to buy a couple of bottles...

Good spot in the heart of old town for drinks, can be a little expensive but you get what you pay for, service is good and the carvery on a Sunday is delicious!

The moment I walked through the door I thought,this bar is for me. Quirkiness at its highest level.So much to see,your head goes in a spin.The interior designer need commending. So loved the shabby leather settees....I want one! Will definitely be returning,sooner rather than later.

As above, lovely delicious food and waitresses/bar staff were welcoming friendly and place. Was interestingly decorated, with some likenesses of famous people... but overall wonderful evening and great to eat in.

We had a 50th birthday party here on the first floor...private room with bar and food. I can only say a big huge success and a massive thank you to all the amazing staff. We invited over 100 people..the room was elegant...big...clean..plenty of tables and chairs...the staff were attentive and professional...well deserved 10/10..the foods were always fresh and high quality. Everyone enjoyed this location and I would highly recommend to all for private parties.

Over £10 for a g&t; that was served by a rude member of staff, no ice, when we asked where the ice was we were rudely told “can’t you see it’s busy, we’ve run out!” No apology. Security staff who are on some kind of power trip! I would suggest you train your staff on how to treat paying customers

Just went into this pub with friends found a table to sit and enjoy a catch up. Without any warning (nothing on the tables etc.) We are ask to move and stand as they needed to move the table and chairs just so they could get more people in. I have a bad back and as such finding some where to sit is important. We had to leave and waste our drinks to find some where that would accomadate us.

I went in for coffee with a friend and the bill came to less than £10. We were told there's a minimum £10 spend to use a card PLUS a £1 surcharge. Outrageous. Won't be coming here again!!!

We recently held my mother in laws funeral buffet here at The Kings and I have to stay they did a wonderful job of providing a variety of delicious food, some of which was unexpected, they rustled up a lovely vegan dish on the hop also the sandwiches were Bloomer style with nice fillings everyone commented on the quiches as being yummy. thanks very much. Beautful decor, great staff, great food.

Tuvimos un cumpleaños familiar, mientras que el almuerzo y aquí fue un autoservicio asados, nos sirvieron con nuestros pudines. Había una selección de 3 asados y todas las verduras que te puedas imaginar. Las porciones de carne en general eran generosos y sirve la comida era muy buena y la variedad de los budines en el menú era más grande de lo que normalmente ver para comer el domingo. Estaba claro que el lugar para comer el domingo fue muy popular ya que estaba muy lleno, así que reserve con antelación, incluso si sólo ustedes dos. En £13 por dos platos de la comida fue excelente relación calidad-precio.

Visitamos para una cena de aniversario, ya que había oído que la comida era buena y el menú dijeron que producen localmente. Gran decepción. Sólo había otro restaurante en el restaurante y nos dijeron que después de pedir y conseguir vino que puede ser un poco, ya que estaban ocupados con una función. Esperamos más de una hora para el arranque y lo que realmente el ritmo, no hay oferta de aperitivos, etc. y que eran prácticamente solos en un restaurante casi vacío con lata de Riverdance incesante y la camarera aparece en cada hora. Verdaderamente grave, que era una pena porque la comida era muy buena, así que estoy adivinando el chef es bueno, pero como una pérdida completa de un restaurante y por desgracia no volveremos.

Fui allí con amigos y tenía su menú. Hay unos 6 o 7 opciones de entrada, plato principal y postres y una gran variedad. La comida estaba muy bien presentada y estaba buenísimo. Que es muy buena relación calidad-precio en £16,95 por 3 platos. Es un poco ruidoso en el comedor principalmente por la acústica... y que probablemente es bastante ruidoso! Sin duda lo recomendaría y volvería.

Por lo tanto fuimos al asador el domingo a elegir alineados mi selección de comida. El personal era muy amable y servicial. La comida era excelente, opciones de carne suculenta, cerdo y pavo, buena selección de verduras sabroso asado, patatas doradas y variedad de salsas y la salsa. Muy concurrida, puede ser más seguro para reservar una mesa, aunque había un par de vacío. Ambiente agradable, excelente comida y un gran personal. Cuesta £10 y vale la pena. Esperamos volver muy pronto.

Nos apetecía un regalo así que visitamos el restaurante para probar la oferta ofrecen £12,50 3 campo de comida y estupefacto por la presentación, calidad y cantidad de las comidas. El servicio es de primera clase de eficiente, profesional y personal amable personal. El comedor era de muy buen gusto modernizado y como consecuencia de nuestra sorpresa encontrar hemos revisited varias veces con amigos que son igualmente impresionado y encantado! Una visita obligada para los sibaritas que gozan de una gran creatividad comida fresca en el "increíble" relación calidad-precio!

Ten of us visited recently for my birthday and had the set three course meal for £12.50. What a bargain, the food was delicious and really up market. Plenty of choice and really well cooked. Will definitely be going back. Service good too

Although you can eat the same menu in the bar area, we ate in the smallish restaurant at the backBeing a Sunday night, we were the only people there. There were candles on the table and the décor/furniture was far superior to the bar. Looks like it's been recently refurbished. Not sure about the end wall display of groceries - it didn't really fitAnyway, being a cheapskate I was attracted by the 3 courses for £12.50 menu - ordinarily I wouldn't have thought of eating here given my previous experiences with the place have been of Friday and Saturday nights when the bar's full and much alcohol has been consumedBit of a revelation really! There are 6 or so choices for each of the courses. Both starters and main courses were of a far superior quality to what I was expecting. We had Beef Skewers/Chicken Livers for starters and for main Chicken/Mackerel. Nothing wrong with the puddings either, just that was bit more in line with my expectations - a chocolate tart straight from the fridge...but with a whopping ice-cream sized scoop of clotted creamService was a bit languid for my liking, but we were in a hurry and the waiter responded when we explained we needed to be away quicklyOverall...I really don't know how they can do this for £12.50. What a bargain...and it's not like you are eating low quality food either. I'll definitely consider eating here again

Staff slow although one girl was trying, food poor really considering the cost - asked for ribeye medium rare and got sirloin well done like shoe leather - chips ok but then come on I could have gone to the chip shop for a quarter I the price, coleslaw not homemade neither was the sauce. Colleagues paella adequate with what tasted like frozen chicken pieces but again for cost it was poor. I won't be going back due to the poor food. Restaurant decor quite nice if a little mixed in design - eclectic if you like - some areas we liked some we thought a bit odd but each to their own in that score. It won't bring me back in - lets just say that!

The Kings is a hotel that has a large bar/dance area and a quiet dining room in the back of the building. They offer a prix fixe menu for 40 pounds sterling including a bottle of wine which is quite a good value. Two of our group had the that menu and were happy with their choices. I ordered Steak, mushroom with chips and a bottle of beaujolais which was lovely. The steak was served on a slate with french fries in a little basket, mushroom sauce in a little pot on the side - seems to be a common move away from plates these days :D . My dessert was the old English favourite Spotted Dick with vanilla custard. Lighter and fluffier than my mother used to make but certainly good comfort food.
