After a long period of absence we went for drinks here on Christmas Eve. Not a single pump was working and a small bottle of Peroni and an equally small (and disgusting) bottle of Prosecco was charged at £10! The manager was overheard telling another punter that they were “running down the stock” which translates to “we’re going to be closing soon”. Such a shame - this used to be an amazing pub years ago. Mis-management has led to the state it is now in. Bring back the former owners.

Family Christmas lunch , arrived no beer , awaiting an order on Monday, my goodness a pub with no draft beer , this is not prohibition , tried to sell me a 330ml bottle of Peroni for £4.85 , outrageous , that's nearly £10 a pint , Manager missing . Not available , couldn't contact him Arrived at 12.55 for 13.00 meal , 12 of us , the table wasn't even set , dysfunction personified . We had a dog , had to be pre booked , not allowing them in the restaurant!!?? Yet now she got hold of the manager !!!??? Biggest loose description of a restaurant I've ever seen , a bunch of wooden tables in a gap . Sat us by the toilet door. No dogs allowed but she had two of the most horrible variety I've ever seen by the table we eventually ate at , that's pretty two faced . Well the Christmas meal arrives , well it wasn't turkey off a bird , it was ?? I don't know , it seemed an Icelands Turkey joint wrapped in bacon , as were the glazed vegetables , and the roast potatoes , well definitely not potatoes cut and roasted , very much like frozen ones , Icelands again , Don't really know for sure and the hard crusty Yorkie pud , with turkey !!?? So hard wasn't edible. So without actually making false statements to me it seemed an Icelands meal. Cabbage wet and soft . Pudding , Christmas pudding , well I had to use a small spoon , it was so small , think I've seen them somewhere else as well . Cost a fortune , service and management poor to non existent . Please for £200 cheaper as kids eat free and a great Christmas meal choice Beefeater at Eureka park , better value , good beer and a choice . It's honestly a place that deserves to close , it was if they didn't want us there , there was absolutely nobody else eating, it felt very uncomfortable.

Avoid unless you want the risk Food Poisoning! My wife, son and I were delighted to get Sunday Lunch last week just calling in as we were passing, without a reservation, as we had eaten many good meals here in the past, before the present owners. However, on Monday morning we all had acute diarrhoea (we had not eaten anything else since the Sunday lunch) and mine continued for a total of 72 hours after which I spoke with my GP. I emailed this establishment on the Monday late afternoon, during a short respite from the bathroom, but have not had an acknowledgement or reply from them as of Saturday morning. We will NEVER go there again!

We arrived at 4pm to be told they had run out of lamb and chicken roast! Then came back 10 minutes later and said they could actually do it. The beef and lamb came out raw and had to be sent back. We were there for 2 hours and only got offered one drink. We ordered bread for starters which also never came out. The kids ice cream was like water. And after all of this everyone who had the beef and lamb has had a bad tummy all day including the children! I would nerver return!!!!

Tiny portions, a handful of overcooked chips, food barely warm, burger wasn’t cooked well, just full of pepper. Music too loud. £17.50 spent - would have been much better off at the good pub up the road. Before lockdown - under previous owners - this was a great gastropub. Not any more.

Our recent stay at the Kings Head was nothing short of magical. First and foremost, the food was incredible. Every dish served was a culinary masterpiece. Whether it was the perfectly cooked burger on a pretzel bun or the addictive halloumi fries, each bite was amazing. They also have their own wood-fired pizza in the back that fires up some of the best pizzas we’ve had! This is available for dine-in or take-away. The rooms at the Kings Head were a true retreat. They were not only beautifully decorated but also incredibly comfortable. It was a joy to relax in such a cozy atmosphere after a day of exploring the charming surrounding area. What sets the Kings Head apart is the convenience of having absolutely everything you need, all in one place. From the delicious meals to the comfortable rooms, it truly is a one-stop destination for a perfect getaway. A special thanks goes out to Nick and the entire staff for their excellent hospitality. If you're looking for a place to escape, indulge in amazing food, and relax in beautiful surroundings, look no further than the Kings Head. It's a hidden gem that I can't wait to visit again. Thank you, Kings Head, for a truly exceptional experience! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Our first visit in a while - pre-covid this place was absolutely sensational. Not sure if ownership or management has changed - all a bit flappy now though. The space is nice, and if the food can be moved back up a couple of notches The Kings Head will still be worth a visit. Work to do right now however, noticeably not as good as it has been in the past.

We have been here for breakfast, lunch and supper and never had a bad experience, and this one fully lived up to our expectations. I've reviewed the KH before, so this is a short resume. The menu is short, always a good sign of a proper chef, with enough choices to make selection difficult, but as we were having Sunday lunch, the roasts were our priority. Excellent rare beef and excellent, properly cooked pork with crispy crackling, tender vegetables with a bite to the carrots and an extra side of creamy cauliflower cheese. Pudding was a bit of a conscience wrestling match, but greed won, it's still winter after all, and we both had the sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream. A proper winter finish to lunch. Service was prompt, professional and friendly, as always, although our waitress needed a bit of prompting to get the bill.In summary, this is a wonderful pub, a fabulous restaurant, and the rooms are pretty wonderful too if you stay in the hotel. And the title of the review? My wife asked for custard rather than the clotted cream, but without success, although the owner said that all we need to do next time we book is to ask if the chef can make custard, and it will be waiting for us. That is service, and that's why we keep going back. Just go and find out for yourselves. Sorry, not as short a review as I thought.

We decided to book last minute for dinner on a Saturday evening. It’s been a while since we have eaten at the KH and being local and with no trains running due to the storm, thought we’d give it a go. On arrival it took ages to be served at the bar with apparently only one lady serving with lots of other staff members milling around. The menu is very limited with only 4 starters and five mains. We weren’t told what the fish of the day was and when we opted for the bavette marinated in stout and coffee the waitress responded saying it was ‘chewy’ apparently i.e we might want to choose something else! The staff were friendly and attentive but we had 5 different people serve us during the evening and they seemed overwhelmed by a flurry of last minute bookings. The wine list was good but the food was mediocre at best. Sadly we wouldn’t rush back.

Tonight was to be an anniversary meal for the two of us with a table for 7.30. Unfortunately a large table next to us arrived at 8.30 with young children. The children aged between 5 and 7 years old proceeded to use the restaurant as a playground with screams of delight and one child firing rubber sucker projectiles. After about 30 minutes other diners got up and left the noise was intolerable. Although the staff apparantly asked the parents to calm the children down the behaviour continued. Unfortunately the staff didnt ask the parents and their freinds to move to another part of the restaurant where the children would not be a problem to other diners. So we got up and moved into the bar. I am a grandparent and all my children behave in restaurants as they think it is something special to come to a restaurant. So to sum up I will not use this restaurant again if this is allowed to continue in the future. On the plus side the staff were good, The food was good. but the New flying horse and the wife of Bath have a better ambiance if you want a nice meal without getting indigestion.

I took the midday slot.We received a warm welcome and were seated immediately. Drinks orders were taken quickly. We had some bread and oil to start which was lovely and fresh. For mains, my husband ordered the three meat roast with an extra side of cauliflower cheese. I had the vegetarian Wellington. I double checked it didn’t have cheese (I am not vegan, just hate cheese). Our server did come back to check I was OK with butter as it usually comes on the veg which thought was a great touch. The food was great and I would happily order the same again. All of the staff were attentive and friendly but our main server (Sophie B - from the receipt) was outstanding and a real asset to the business. Having been to this restaurant under the previous owners we were excited about returning. However what was truest a foodie restaurant experience has just turned into a pub with food that you could sum up using the word “meh.” Its not good, it’s not bad but it’s no longer somewhere we would desperately want to go back to. The food is no longer good just pretentious... particularly when you can count your chips. My partner had the risotto which was evidently microwaves as it had become very stodgy from being reheated. The dessert menu has also become a menu of most convenience for the chef with nothing on it that a decent home cook couldn’t make themselves.... well actually that probably sums up the whole menu now. Overpriced and you could cook every dish yourself at home. Service was also meh... a new team who’s rent delivering to the standards set by the previous owners.

I booked a table for Saturday 10th July for our wedding anniversay, and we were really looking forward to a night out at the Kings Head having eaten there on previous occasions. On arrival we were greeted and shown to our table by a gentleman I assumed was the manager, after being asked to sign in for Covid compliance. He gave us a specials menu, wine & cocktail menu and the main menu and told us they were unable to get in the Gurnard. I could not see anywhere what other drinks were available, so when Lisa our waitress came over to take our order, I asked what ales were available. We went straight for mains - my wife ordered the Seabass with a side dish of greens, and I ordered the Loin of Pork and a side dish of pinkfur potatoes. Lisa said they would come tossed in butter. We also asked for some olives and bread which came out shortly after ordering our drinks.I chose a Whitstable Bay Ale, which I know well but for some reason didn’t taste quite right and a bottle of prosecco. Our food arrived in good time and both mains and sides were hot. As I put one potato on my plate and cut half of it, I noticed they were just boiled, and I also had the remanent of some greens in the side bowl too. Before I could tuck into the pork the ‘Manager’ asked if everything was ok and said that he would not bother us again – we told him we were fine thank you. Within a minute Lisa then came over and asked if everything was ok, as I put the first cut of pork in my mouth – again we said thank you.As I then started to try to eat my meal – but before I had had a chance to really taste any of it, a 3rd waitress came over to ask if everything as ok, all three visits within 3 minutes of receiving our food. I said it was but without sounding rude she was the 3rd person to ask and could we be left to eat our meal please. After trying 3 cuts of the meat and the kale I asked my wife how her food was, and she said lovely. I said to my wife I am not at all impressed, as the pork was dry and the kale tasted very greasy and I couldn’t eat it, so I ate the remainder of our olives and bread. When a 4th member of staff came over to clear the plates, I told her my food wasn’t great and she said she would speak with the Chef but we heard no more. I left over 90% of my whole main meal on my plate, so you could see it wasn’t enjoyed, so thought someone would come over and see why. Sadly nothing was said.My wife then ordered a crème brûlée which we decided to share which was delicious, and I also ordered half a larger. When I asked for our bill, and seeing we had been charged for everything, I was not happy! Even though I clearly said a couple of times I wasn’t happy with my meal, I explained to the manager how dry the pork was, the potatoes were not served as described on the menu and even the kale was greasy. He argued the kale couldn’t be greasy as its oven baked - yet the menu clearly states its crispy fried kale and not oven baked. He also said I had had plenty of time to say I was not happy and that I was still expected to pay in full. I was totally shocked with this reply and his attitude. I was taken aback and said OK I will pay but that I was not at all happy and we would never be back. He did not say anything just gave me the card machine – absolutely astounding. After we paid, I called over Lisa and explained our experience, and that I would be leaving a review on TripAdvisor, which I have never felt the need to do anywhere before. She was very apologetic and said that if she could have done something she would, but the man was the shift manager and there was nothing she could do.She also asked if I could hold off making any comments, as she would get her Manager to contact me about our experience the following day. I agreed to wait to speak to her Manager. It is now Monday gone 6pm and I haven’t had any contact from The Kings Head team and feel that I need to let people know of our poor dining experience. You couldn’t fault the waitresses who were very keen to make sure we were ok, but the shift manager needs some customer service refresher training, as if something is not right with the food, he should have addressed it well before we had our bill come over, as I had brought it up with members of the waiting staff. It is a shame as it spoilt our night. We will not be returning and I would not recommend eating at The Kings Head, which is disappointing knowing how the past year and a bit have been for all especially the hospitality industry.

Myself and my partner are on a mini break in the countryside before having our first baby and wanted to spoil ourselves with a special dinner. We decided on the Kings head as the menu really appealed to us. We were met with a very warm greeting, all the staff were so nice and friendly. We chose to have the rack of lamb, as I'm pregnant I did ask if they wouldn't mind cooking mine a little more they maybe they usually would so that it was OK for me to eat. I really appreciated them doing that for me. They warned me there was a chance it may be on the tough side but is really wasn't the chef did an excellent job as it was still perfectly cooked, just not pink which is what I asked for. If you are like me then you'll have a look at the menu before going as you'll need to bare in mind it's on the more expensive side as restaurants go but we thought it was well worth it. We were happy to pay a little more than usual for such delicious food and lovely service. When we next get a chance to come back to the area we will definitely be back to see what's on the menu. Thank you to all the staff for making it such a lovely meal for us.

The Kings Head has been one of our favourites locally for over six years. The pizzas during lockdown have been brilliant. However, we decided to book here for our first meal indoors, to celebrate a birthday and excitedly check out the new management but what a disappointment. The menu is generic with the standard everyday pub grub variety, but with upper end prices. The importance of local produce seems reduced, the waiting staff were friendly but the managers extremely unfriendly. The asparagus and mint rissotta (@£14) was tasteless and plain. The mediteranian vegetables with the pork (@£18) were not properly cooked and obviously reheated. The pork itself was the tiniest slither, however the crackling and mash were tasty. The waitress asked if everything was ok, we said they were just ok, not good but we would like to discuss it at the end as we felt uncomfortable having confrontation during a meal (with children with us). At the end we politely said thank you but the rissotto was inedible (which had been half left). We received our bill and were charged the full amount. When questioned about the rissotto, the waiter had spoken to management (who didn't have the decency to speak to us even though they were metres from us) who apparently said, because we didn't raise it earlier, then we we have to pay full price. Even though we did mention earlier we were not happy. We are locals and are the biggest supporters of our village. Wye has the best community and we are all so friendly to each other, this feels like a huge blow and we felt on the recieving end of really defensive behaviour and terribly bad attitude. It is a shame for The Kings Head to become this after fab management previously. The New Flying Horse it is.......... whos new manager is a delight, friendly, communicative and enthusiastic.

I had wanted to try this place since reading it was one of the best pubs in Kent. You are greeted with a friendly and warm welcome and great service from the staff. The menu was quite small but that may be COVID related. I opted for the burger with cheese which at £16.50 was nothing special and very overpriced. The pub is dog friendly which is great as I am a dog owner myself but allowing dogs to yelp and bark was not really conducive to a relaxing lunch. If it hadn’t been for the brilliant service this place would have been a real let down.

Visited today for Sunday lunch and the food was excellent.2 veggies were dining and they both chose the veggie Wellington which was served with a tomato and red pepper sauce, roasties, a huge Yorkshire, braised red cabbage, roasted root veggies, greens and extra cauli cheese. Beautiful. Good presentation and delicious food - fresh food, very well executed. The third diner chose beef and was very satisfied with the quality and quantity of meat as well as the same trimmings as the vegetarians enjoyed. For dessert we shared a warm chocolate brownie with Berry compote and milk sorbet. Superb! Darkly decadent rich chocolate brownie paired beautifully with perfectly sharp fruit. The service was attentive and the Covid protocols were adhered to. If there was any downside, it would only be that the current owners are ending their lease today. Such a shame! Really hope that the same standards are maintained going forward under new management.

With a vegan and gluten free eating out is often difficult.Lovely welcoming chatty staff. I had the vegan chickpea burger, obviously home made as it was delicious not out of a packet rubbish.Husband had the gluten free chilli, which he said was delicious. There was even a vegan pana cotta for dessert. If you are the area I would def recommend going there.Thank you to the staff and chef.

Unfortunately the staff at this establishment are just downright rude. Completely unacceptable service. Although the food is good it is horrendously overpriced. In addition, there have been no attempts made to make sure that diners/tables are socially distanced. Definitely will not be making the trip out to Wye again.

We stayed here for one night and took dinner in the restaurant. It was fabulous and faultless. Firstly this place takes your safety incredibly seriously and their systems make you feel well cared for in these challenging times. Excellent food, wine and ambience made it a most enjoyable music. Our host Scott was attentive and played some of our favourite tunes from the 80's - thank you Scott! The room was lovely and comfortable and the breakfast bags pretty comprehensive. I would have loved some coffee in the morning would be the one even better if. I do appreciate places are working through the government guidance trying to get it right. They certainly did at this must-go destination if you are ever in Wye.Thank you.

We were delighted to find availability at this lovely gastro pub especially as we decided to have a break last minute. It was even better that our well behaved dog could come too. The rooms were very clean quiet and comfortable. It’s a shame that due to Covid restrictions that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. All bar and housekeeping staff were lovely and friendly. They gave us details of a great walk to try out to the ‘devils kneading trough’ which we very much appreciated. We thoroughly enjoy a trip to Canterbury and Rye both well under an hour away. We enjoyed lovely food at the pub and also sampled the other pubs in the villages too. Highly recommended!

Just had our third dinner from these wonderful fellas. Tonight’s was my favourite so far - lamb kofta kebabs with salad and dips. Oh wow, quality restaurant food, such a treat when you’ve been working from home stuck indoors wondering what to have for dinner. Last Sunday we had their roast; succulent pork belly, awesome cackling, crispy and fluffy roasties and huge, full of air (how we love them) yorkies. My personal fave was the gorgeous green cabbage, but the gravy was lip-smackingly tasty too. And finally, our first try of this ‘click and collect’ was the BURGER, an absolute delight. Enormous, fresh, juicy, so, so tasty with the most incredible fries, crispy and fluffy with skins on. Wow. The portions are huge so not yet tried any puds but they look incredible too. I truly recommend these lovely chaps whilst we are still in lockdown, it’s like eating out but in and I can’t wait till they open properly and we can have the full ‘dining in’ experience again.

Hubby and I, oh and not forgetting Flora the dog, devoured a truly scrumptous Sunday Roast a few weks ago. We both chose corn fed chicken, which is accompanied with potatoes, yorshire pud, hispi cabbage, carrots and parsnips. One can order extra roasties as we did as in pic, or stick with their serving of 3 each. Cauliflower cheese is also listed as an extra. Everything complimented by a lovely red wine jus. First class ingredients, absolutely yummy food. One really can't ask for more, just a nice comfy corner to sleep it all off. Looking forward to Kings Head re opening after lockdown to experience the whole 'Live' restaurant experience, but a take away from there. truly is the next best thing. Treat Yourselves, you will love it They do take aways, Wed to Sunday. Pizza, pasta, burgers and fish 'n' chips and roasts (pre ordered) on Sunday. Book online

We did this for my mum last Sunday, collected a perfect home style 3 course Sunday roast dinner for 3 people from your super gastro-pub 10 minutes from mum's house. Yes I could have made a similar and good Sunday lunch for less, but I just can't see how these fabulous small businesses will survive without us supporting them. The fact that your pub has found a way to do business while being effectively closed is a miracle. Wherever you live people, do a bit of Internet searching for click and collect pubs and restaurants near you.. they need your custom right now!

The usual spectacular yorkies (we ordered extras... ) veggies, cauliflower cheese, gravy, and really tasty meats. The Kings Head is offering a Click and Collect service from 12 - 3pm for their delicious Sunday roasts with all the trimmings during lockdown. I had the vegan Wellington which was amazing, and my other half reports his roast beef was done to perfection. I would recommend booking your meal on a PC or laptop as I had trouble getting through when I used my phone to fill in the booking form. You will be given a specified time to come into the pub and collect your food to maintain social distancing. It's really worth supporting businesses like this who have found a way to help the community by feeding us well and still stay in business during these troubling times.

Don’t take any notice of this place saying they are dog friendly as they are not !! We traveled 18 miles ( on recommendation ) from Maidstone to arrive at 6 with our chihuahua dog , the bar tables were occupied by children and no bar tables were available . We were served our drinks and perched on stools until we spoke to the waiter and could sit at the restaurant tables We ordered starters and mains , wine and soft drinks about £80 of food in total. The starters arrived and were told by I would think a manager ( or Hitler ) that our dog is not permitted to sit on the bench next to me at the table and would we put her on the floor !!! She was laying down on her own blanket asleep on a wooden bench ! No one would have even knew she was there. So it’s ok to have the bar occupied by children yet a small dog sitting on a on a bench next to me is not . We asked for the bill , rushed our starters and left . Why were not told when we ordered dogs weren’t permitted ???? The waiter was kind and attentive and the food we did have very good . The because of the attitude and rude manager we will not be returning .

We visited here recently for lunch, drawn by the good reviews. The food was OK, but nothing exceptional and the service was competent again without being outstanding. The ambience was a typical pub, although the dining area was away from the bar. What was outstanding was the prices that they charge. Main courses were considerably more expensive than the equivalent elsewhere and more than I would expect to pay in a good hotel. The desserts were espeically expensive -- £9 for a chocolate fondant and £10 for cheese and biscuits. I don't know what awards they have won - I would nominate them for the worst value in Kent.

We were visiting Wye for my husbands birthday. We came across the Kings Head while staying local. Decided to book a meal, well we were not disappointed, as soon as we arrived we were made welcome. I had a lovely Gin with berries and my husband had a local draft beer. The meal was so nice, salt & pepper squid, pork, beef cheeks, chicken wrapped in ham, chocolate fondant it was all very good. If we visit again we would go back and stay as well x

We both opted for the seafood on a bisque sauce. It was rather bland and the sauce watery without flavour. We provided feedback to the staff, who clearly didn’t know how to react, so on the whole, a disappointing experience apart from the beer.

All we needed for Christmas perfection was a blanket of freshly fallen snow, maybe next year! My husband and I, had Christmas Lunch in the well deserved, award winning, Kings Head Public House and Rooms, in Wye Village, Ashford, Kent. Well, what can we say, it was a food connoiseurs dream and owners Scott and Mark made us and our little dog Flora-Rose, feel so welcome, as did their wonderful team. We had a superb festive luncheon of canapes, followed by my artichoke soup and hubby's venison carpaccio. This was followed by a palate refesher of a beautiful melon sorbet, in a tiny flower pot! For our mains, we both feasted on roulade of turkey breast, leg, pork and stuffing. Accompanied by golden roasties and a wooden board of a selection of vegetables. Everything was cooked to perfection. We chose good old traditional Christmas pudding with cranberry compote to follow. Filter coffee and petit fours of home made truffles sent us straight to Heaven. Must have been made by a Christmas Angel, not a chef! Indeed, the whole meal was wonderful, everything freshly cooked and home made, by definitely an executive fine dining chef, aided by a sprinkle of Christmas magic fairy dust! The ambience was divine, something created by the wonderful hosts, Scott and Mark. The Christmas decorations, a golden elegance, with the tables sporting cute little golden Christmas tree's and of course crackers. This is a delightful 'locals' treasured and in my opinion superior (but not snobby) watering hole, restaurant and rooms (good to put visiting friends up in) and not forgetting, besides delcious meals and a fabulous selection of drinks, anyone can pop in for a lovely array of home cooked breakfasts. Not forgetting the attached Kingshed home baked Italian Style pizza's from Wednesdays to Sundays inclusive. This was a truly magnificent Christmas Lunch experience for us and we already had pre booked our places for New Years Eve. Can't think of a better place to spend it, with such lovely friendly hosts and staff. Thank you for this fabulous experience and a golden star to the chef, who should start a side line business of the petit fours truffles as Valentine gifts. Gentlemen in Wye would be in their ladies good books for ages! If you haven't been yet, this place is a must, time and time again!

The Kings Head is a good example of an over rated and over priced Briitsh gastro pub. The experience was pretty poor from start to finish. Presented with numerous menus for cocktails, wines, and dining - we are told that two of the items on the very short list of their main classic dishes are unavailable. This had lead the table behind us to leave already. I should have followed suit. On ordering two main dishes the waiter pushed for us to take overpriced olives (5£) or overpriced starters. Already starting to feel uncomfortable I resisted and ordered again overpriced drinks. When the mains came they were OK but small portions and nothing special.Already disappointed by the restaurant I just wanted to leave but again proressure to take a dessert and coffee..When this was refused there was then a push for a tip. Overall a very bad experience and a place to definitely avoid. I only wish I could find a decent pub in Kent with a decent reasonsably priced menu and good service. Help!!

I came for a Sunday breakfast with my wife and child last month and had a very poor meal unfortunately. I had the breakfast sandwich, the bacon was tough no hint of being crisp with a layer of unrendered almost raw fat and mostly all barely warm. My kids had the pancakes and were expecting something light and fluffy but they resembled a stodgey scone with no real taste. My wife had a cold poached egg. I dislike leaving a negative review but we were all looking forward to breakfast and at £70 ish not cheap and not worth it. One thing - I had a nice coffee and good service - just very poor food.
