An excellent pub - easily the best in town. Great atmosphere, beer and jukebox. Staff friendly and very helpful. We stayed in the camping pods as a base for a couple of cycle rides around the area and they were just right -- excelent shower block too. Thanks and will definitely return

I visited twice over the weekend with my 4-legged partner in crime. We were served by the landlord on both occasions. Guinness perfectly presented with the harp facing forward and a shamrock to top it off. Locals were welcoming, and the pub is dog friendly and clean. On my second visit, I brought cash with me opposed to card, which is their preference if one can.

Always loved this pub. It has plenty of room, great friendly atmosphere in the front bar. Back rooms are big and have a pool table , more tvs and juke box. They have wooden sleeping pods at the back of the pub and my friends all stayed in them. Very nice private toilet block and shower too. Loved my pint of HPA.

Popped in there while friends were out walking to watch the Wales v Switzerland game. Couldn’t recommend the place highly enough. They were COVID compliant without being over the top and they were extremely competent and friendly. Absolutely top notch venue if you want a pint at reasonable prices with a friendly vibe.

Friendly and welcoming. Very reasonably priced menu offered a large number of options and all of our party of 4 enjoyed their choices. You can eat in the bar or in a seperate restaurant area. Beer well kept and ales and wine also very reasonably priced. Used by locals which gives the place a good atmosphere.

Called in whilst doing a pub crawl around the village looking for cask ales. Great atmosphere, a few locals in there, big screens with sport on, duke box, dart board and a pool table, it was all going on. Friendly bar staff too. The fiancé couldn't find a pale ale he liked so we moved on. Great bar though.

I called into this pub the other day just for a pint. It had just opened and I had a pint. The beer was lovely and the establishment actually looked like what a pub should like. The barmaid was nice and friendly and conversational and that's the kind of place I like. Nothing was too much trouble and I'd warmly recommend that you have a drink or two in this pub. It's a lovely area to explore and the beer was exceptional. What more can one say? A wonderful experience, Kings Head. Thank you.

In town on a hot day so passing by and went in for a drink. Lunch so is was quiet in here. Not a lot of choice for a pint as there was a beer festival on at the weekend and they were getting ready for that. The pint I had was an excellent drink and was very much enjoyed. The staff were friendly and so we enjoyed our short visit here. A cask marque pub to be recommended. Did not have a meal so unable to comment on the food.

We ate here twice whilst on holiday in the area, once for Sunday lunch and once for an evening meal, mid week. The food was lovely, home cooked and hearty. There was an excellent selection of veg at an extremely reasonable price and the home made puddlings are to die for! Because we enjoyed it so much we came back later that week for an evening meal and again the food and service was amazing. We are a family with three young kids and haven't found everywhere in Bishops Castle to be as welcoming to families. The kings head offers great value, is immaculately clean and has a lovely ambiance and great service. We cannot find any fault and would not hesitate to return if we are in the area again.

We visited here one evening while staying in the area, we were greeted with a smile and a very attentive barmaid who immediately made us feel welcome. The menu was a typical pub menu, but the food was exceptionally good, way above general pub food quality and quantity. Wish it was out local, as we would be here most nights We Would definitely recommend this as a place to eat and drink

After reading previous reviews and deciding to give it a go, I can honestly say that we cannot fault either the food or the service. I had the veggie lasagne, which was freshly cooked and piping hot. It came with a baton of garlic bread and substantial side salad. My partner had the salmon on crushed potatoes in a white wine sauce with seasonal veg. It was exceptional, with the salmon being almost to big to finish. The service was quick and the staff friendly and attentive. For the portion size the bill was very reasonable (less than £20) We would certainly visit again, in fact there was so much to choose from the menu it was difficult to decide what to order. Outstanding!

A friend and myself visited this establishment recently on a saturday, in search of a substantial lunch .... we entered the pub from the High Street straight into an unwelcoming bar area....we were greeted by a surly Landlord and it can only be described as a tumbleweed experience!!..... the menus we were handed, had what we can only presume is an excellent evening menu.... the lunch menu however was extremely basic and uninviting... in search of better surrounding to sit in, we walked into the back room (which I presume was the Restaurant area) this again was uninviting.... needless to say we hastily drank our drinks and eventually ended up a little further out of Bishops Castle at the Herbert Arms (Chirbury) and had an amazing meal and we were made to feel very welcome...... we will NOT be returning!.

I would recommend the food here which is excellent and great value for money. The staff are helpful and the service was good. The menu appears just like your average pub grub but the food is well above the average standard, but for the same cost. I chose Salmon in a white wine sauce with crushed new potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The piece of salmon was huge and very well cooked and the sauce was rich, buttery and delicious. The seasonal vegetables were tasty and cooked with various seasonings which really added depth of flavour. For dessert I chose bread and butter pudding with custard, which was a generous serving, and beautifully presented. All in all a hidden gem of a restaurant.

On attending the Bishops Castle Beer Festival Saturday the 13th July we happened upon the Kings Head. A group of us went in and asked the Bar Maid for five pints of real ale. When she had pulled them we asked politely for them to be topped up as they were obviously well below the pint. Her reply astounded us she told us that she was far too busy to bother to give us the correct measure. When we asked to see the manager he topped up our glasses without any hesitation. Its a pity his staff do not give the same service as this gives his establishment a bad reputation we drank up and moved on to another pub.

Lovely place to pop in for lunch, staff very good kept asking if all was ok with our meal and if we had everything we needed. Now to the meal, it was delicious from start to finish, the home made chips were beautiful and the pudding, lemon cheesecake was fantastic, could'nt find fault with anything. All great value for money, with plenty of choice on the lunchtime menu. Would go again without a doubt.

There is a varied menu all of which seemed pretty good value for money. There were eight in our group and everyone enjoyed everything they ate, especially the chips which were delicious. (There were some disputes regarding stealing chips as some of the main courses had come with new potatoes, which were also good.) We would definitely eat there again and there was a good selection of drinks available including proper beer. Again, prices were pretty reasonable. It was easy to park in the auction yard and walk through and to leave half the family drinking whilst the female contingent explored the shops either side the street up the town. Some interesting shopping, especially at "Simpsons" right at the top opposite "The Poppy House".

We had our works Christmas do here for 30+ people and we stayed the night. Front of house staff were lovely and welcoming, but that is all I can really say nice about our stay. Our room was like something out of the 70/80s very twee and old-fashioned. Quilt cover had a rip in it. Bath looked old, faint smell of cigarette smoke. No soap, shower gel etc in the bathroom - to help save the planet apparently - you could request some at reception. We were woken about 6am by what I assume was some kind of water cistern behind one of the bedroom walls that sounded like a plane going over head. The party. Arrival time was stated as 7pm and most (about 180) turned up about then. We were all crowded into the bar which wasn't big enough and soon warmed up to a very uncomfortable temperature. They eventually let us in at 8pm. Drinks were astronomically expensive - £7.50 for a pint £8.20 for a Baileys or a large glass of wine (£25+ by the bottle) and £7.20 for a pint of coke!!!. The main course wasn't served until after 9pm and my beef was dry and tasteless, though others who had the turkey said it wasn't bad. And my Xmas pudding was dry too. All in all not somewhere I would ever go again and certainly don't know where it gets it 4 star rating from. I did voice most of my complaints to reception before leaving.
