The food was ok, must have been a specials evening as not much to choose from. They seemed understaffed and busy, service after we got our food was poor. The chips were excellent, possibly a new season local potato, the desserts were also very good.

Sorry but our experience differs. We went in for a meal on a Thursday evening. They were not serving food as no-one else had bought meals that day and our dog was unwelcome in the bar, even though their website says he is.....avoid this place and drive a little further to the very welcoming bricklayers arms.

After being recommended to go here it was a total let down from start to finish. We waited nearly 2 hours for our food and when my steak came I think they had been cooking it for that long!!! The scampi was also well over done!!! In the poor girls defence that served us she admitted that they should not have taken our booking as they were too busy anyway!!! But no deductions or good will was made to our bill. Will not be returning!!!!

We had a fantastic Fish Lunch, with nice fresh and crispy beer battered Cod, real chips and mushy peas. Superb value for money, the service was excellent with the food being brought to us nice and hot and very quickly. The pub is a lovely quaint and traditional old style Pub. Dale the chef and landlord has recently taken over the Kings Head, on first impressions will be an asset to the local area. As there will be meals served daily and various things going off in the Pub. Well worth a visit but if eating may be good idea to book , especially the Fish and chips and Sunday carvery. .

After a lengthy walk from Boston to Freiston Shore Nature Reserve and then back to Freiston, we were delighted to find the King's Head open for lunch. The owner was most accommodating and we were immediately served a pint of well kept bitter. The menu was smartly presented and looked attractive: we opted for scampi and chips and gammon and chips and the tasty home-cooked food was served creatively in separate containers which made a nice change from having everything piled on one plate. The gammon was really large and succulent. We just had enough room for a sweet and the lady in charge of the kitchen kindly came out to explain the options. She had just made a honeycomb cheesecake with crunchy bits and cream that morning and though it was no doubt teeming with calories, we thought it was exquisite--certainly the best cheesecake we had ever encountered!Congratulations to the Kings Head on setting such a high standard!

I really enjoyed my first visit to the King's Head for a very long time. I arrived before my friends and I was greeted warmly, offered a welcome drink and shown to our table which was tastefully set out in the lounge behind the bar area.We had pre-ordered fish and chips (two x cod/two x haddock) and burger and chips and they were absolutely delicious and beautifully served with plenty of tartare sauce and ketchup available. The youngest member of the party commented on how good the chips were and managed to tackle most of his rather large plateful. We ordered a bottle of Jack Rabbit chardonnay which went down a treat. To top it off four of us found room for a sweet: two x ice cream and chocolate sauce and two x dime bar-type gateau with ice cream. Both desserts were delicious! This pub is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays, but it certainly makes up for that the rest of the week....

We called into the Kings Head for a drink and Sunday lunch. It's a proper English pub, not a large chain, serving mass produced microwave food. The lunch was all homemade and we particularly enjoyed the fact that we were given a lunch with two meats and all of the vegetables and gravy were served in separate dishes for each person to help themselves. We called in here for lunch on a Wednesday. It was such a refreshing change to be warmly welcomed by the barman. We sat in the bar to order our lunch with a very welcome pot of tea. The lunch choice is very limited. On the main menu was scampi and chips with side salad or ham and egg and chips. There were specials of jacket potato with the option of 3 fillings or a couple of salads. We chose the main menu and had 1 of each. Our meal was quickly ready and we ate in the dining room. The food was perfectly ok, just nothing out of the ordinary. The barman explained that it's usually very quiet at lunchtimes in the week which is why the choices are limited. I would like to have been able to give a higher rating as the barman was so nice and friendly, but due to the limited options and fairly ordinary meal I can't justify it.

This is not a review this is a response to a previous untrue review about the kings head..... This is a really friendly village pub who serve good real ales, fantastic home cooked food, and other superb drinks. They do not advertise bed and breakfast and have absolutely no room to provide this service so I have no idea why the lady on the previous statement, who made the comments about the standard of the accommodation, posted her comments on here.(name: Di H from Lowestoft). This was our first visit and the welcome was warm and sincere. The menu was not vast but certainly more than adequate and if you like a starter the garlic mushrooms are the best ever. For the main dish my partner had chicken which she enthused over for the rest of the evening. As for myself I had a curry and my mouth waters at the thought of it even now.Neither of us had a desert because we were too full. The staff, especially the landlady, went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I can say there was no signs of "Peggy Mitchell" behind the bar here!! The food was second to none... tempted by the offer of a bbq on the hot sunny day, I declined the offer to eat here instead.. efficenct service, freshly cooked food and not a burnt sausage in sight!! Next time i go back i will be sampling a pudding.. didn't quite save room this time. My husband and I ate dinner here whilst on a weekend away with our dog. The Kings Head was recommended by the owner of our B&B as it serves good food at reasonable prices and accepts dogs. The menu offered a fair amount of choices, and a couple of specials were also available. My husband had steak and chips, which he said was cooked just how he likes it, and I had scampi and chips. The portions were enormous - I had trouble finishing mine even with the dog's help! Despite this, we did also share a dessert - an apple crumble with homemade custard, which was also lovely. Drinks were reasonably priced and the landlord and landlady were very welcoming. I would definitely return if in the area again.

Visiting the area for the day, we located The Thatched Cottage via Tripadvisor. Booked a table for late lunch. Fortunately a pleasant day as having our furry friend with us we had to sit outside. Our lunch was as good as hoped for; a generous portion of roast lamb, served on a bed of lovely mash, accompanied by red cabbage, yorkshire pud, roasties and apricot stuffing. The sides of creamy blue cheese leeks and trio of carrots, french beans and swede were colourful and tasty. Our meal was served promptly and the half pints of Doom Bar washed our lunch down nicely. Friendly service A thoroughly enjoyable lunch, a good find which we would recommend We may not have booked had it been a cold wet day, delighted it wasn't. Note to TTCR, perhaps look at a doggy owner corner in your bar for diners over the winter months?

Lovely pub. We ate in the bar because our friends had their dog with them. Didn't see the restaurant area but hopefully next time. The bar area was fine but not very busy but I'm sure the atmosphere in the restaurant area was better but that's our fault for having a dog with us. Staff were lovely and friendly.

We booked for a family carvery. The online booking system is user-friendly and included a useful reminder via email. We received a friendly, warm welcome, and the carvey was fresh, with a good selection of meats, all cooked very well. I would highly recommend
