Popped in for a quick drink at this famous local spot. It was on this site where King Charles I supposedly held his war council the night before the battle of Naseby in 1645, the deciding battle of the First English Civil War. The pub retains some original features (including brick fireplace) and would certainly in any event have played host to Royalist soldiers the night before the battle, and then victorious Parliamentarien soldiers the night after. The modern day pub is a nice spot in the heart of Market Harborough and is run by Nick (the owner) who is a knowledgeable and friendly local with an excellent whisky collection.

from the outside looks like an olde worlde pub. No. Only us in for a mid-afternoon cheeky one. Sticky floor, sticky tables, sticky chairs. Hole in the floor on the way to the toilets. Only one bitter on. Toilets were clean.

This place is the biggest dump in town by far. The walls and pub are barren with no decorations whatsoever and has a grim interior. The pub is usually empty with the exception of about 2 people , on a Friday and Saturday night after 12 in the morning is the only time the place has some sort of atmosphere and even their it's not a positive one they play the same awful music both days and it's full of granny's on the pull and cocky twenty year olds on coke and maybe the odd normal person, This is the deadest gaf in town and I would recommend you save yourself money from beer that tastes of piss and the £5 entry fee, and skip town and go to a decent club somewhere else.

The waffles with chilli chicken, bacon and syrup was delicious. I would only recommend adding a sauce or cream otherwise it can be a bit dry. The juice didn’t have that freshly made fruity flavour. It tasted watered down although I was told it was freshly made (pineapple, pear and orange). Hence the 4 stars.

You can’t really go wrong. Cheap food and drinks, friendly staff and plenty of places to sit. It used to get quite rowdy on weekend evenings but that seems to have changed now.

Went last night (05/05/2025) for my daughters birthday, 2 x adults,2 x teenagers....I popped in at midday to take a cake in for my daughter, the manager was very polite and helpful, unfortunately he wasn't there in the evening! I ordered the mobile dick, came out more like a goldfish with burnt chips and soggy batter! Dripping in grease...do your chefs know what Acrylamide means? They'll need to to pass an EHO visit!! My fiance had a blue burger...absolutely stone cold, rock hard chips, clearly been left in hot hold for too long then re-fried to give them heat! My daughter had a lasagne, couldn't even stab a knife through it !! My daughters friend didn't even get her meal! I ordered her a lasagne also,a lasagne is 2mins in a microwave, then 2mins in a merrychef ,we waited 25 mins and it still didn't arrive! I've worked in all 6 of Phil weavers pubs in various roles,I'm sure this will make an interesting read for him! Like I say,,credit to the manager,he was a nice guy ....will NOT be returning ever!
