Fantastic food and service! Hidden gem of a pub which I know the locals won’t want anyone knowing! Best burger I’ve had in a long long time :)

Wow- it is well worth visiting this traditional village pub. Having booked a table the previous day, we arrived slightly early and were made to feel very welcome by bar staff; and clearly a social meeting place for locals too, who seemed equally as pleasant. The service was spot on! Food excellent and generous portions. Prices were fair and should we find ourselves visiting this area again, we will definitely be popping back. Thank you, Kings Arms, much appreciated :)

Booked the family in for a Sunday roast, We were put on a large table which allowed all 16 of us to eat together. The food was brilliant, great sized portions and an amazing 'Churro dessert'. Our waitress 'Daisy' was brilliant, quick, attentive and joined in with all the good humoured banter. The Owners Richard and Faye spoke to us all and ensured that everything was spot on. Great food, great service.

Sunday lunch was a real treat here, options on menus with great choices. Home cooked food with very friendly staff. The pub / village of winkleigh looked a little tired and rundown hopefully the pub will get some summer flowers and bring it back to charm.

A welcoming warm pub in the heart of Winkleigh village. We stayed in Winkleigh over Easter weekend and this pub truly made our break memorable. The landlady, landlord and staff were warm and friendly. We had bar snacks 1 evenings and returned for the Sunday roast. All incredible! One of the best pubs we have ever visited and will Definitely be back!

We have lived near this pub for over20 years and it’s fair to say it had had a bumpy ride during that time. However the current landlord/lady have totally nailed it. It still feels like a pub, with drinkers as well as diners and a great village buzz. But the food is remarkably good. Much of the menu is fed by the local excellent butcher and it shows. Between us our group had beef cheeks, belly pork a stunning burger and a “ proper pie”. Every single bit (and the yummy desserts) was completely looked amazing, tasted even better and was basically flawless. We will happily come here again and again and again

A warm welcoming pub, full of character with friendly locals and staff.Made to feel relaxed and at home straight away. Superbly cooked fresh food,a great menu choice, with an emphasis on local produce. Although the pub was extremely busy the service was quick, and nothing was too much trouble. We opted for the venison pie x 2 which was a proper pie,top and bottom crust, full of tender meat with a rice gravy,a well cooked mixture of fresh vegetables and good chips. A good bottle of Malbec,2 pints and a fantastic gooey sticky toffee pudding also homemade with clotted cream. The whole bill coming to £61,which we thought was exceptional value for money.. So much so,we had lunch there the next day too, trying 3 light lunches of beetroot cured Salmon, cheddar and apple tart and pigeon salad, all superb. We will be making the pilgrimage from Cornwall to the King Arms again in the not to distant future, truly memorable.,Top job👌

I run 2 holiday cottages locally and recommend you in my welcome pack as a great place for lunch and dinner. Always a good menu of locally sourced produce, this changes fairly regularly which is great, good choices with something for everyone, a selection of local ales, cider and wines to accompany your meal, good service, lovely atmosphere and a roaring fire to welcome you in the winter months. A popular choice with my guests this season with some great feedback. Fiona (Colehouse Farm Holiday Cottages)

We chose The King’s Arms having read the reviews in the cottage information. We were not disappointed . The pub had a lively feel to it but also welcoming to visitors. The service was quick but we were not rushed. The liver and bacon was a generous plate full, on warm plates (that’s good) and the fish of the day was well presented. The menu is a cut above standard pub food and two courses and drinks came to £50 which these days is good. In summary a great evening

On holiday and decided to eat out at the kings arms as recommended by our hosts. Didn’t have signal so contacted them through messenger and Faye (landlady) rang the pub for us and booked us in, even though they were busy and pretty much booked up. And on a Wednesday evening. The pub itself is brilliant, a proper English pub which is warm, friendly full of locals and a fantastic feel to it. The food was superb too. Best burger I’ve ever had!! (The kings dick). We had 2 children with us and although they didn’t have a children’s menu they sorted us out with the option of smaller child portions. Will definitely be coming again when we’re back in the area. I never write reviews but because it was such a great experience I had too!! Thank you to Faye and her great team!

What a fantastic find! A friendly pub with a fantastic chef. I ordered John Dory, served with a lemon butter with toasted, flaked almonds. Superb! A similar meal at our local fish restaurant in Bournemouth would have been twice the price. My friend ordered a chicken burger, served with gorgeous hot chunky chips and a creamy coleslaw. She said it was fab! We called to move our table forward half an hour ( as we were super hungry lol) and this was no issue. Lovely staff, brilliant service, hot, delicious food. Highly recommended! Do book ahead of your stay... it is very popular but they have good table spacing so it didn't feel cramped. A country cottage feel, with a great menu, and a chef that really knows his way around a kitchen. Fantastic! Helen Carter.

We went again on Friday and again had a fantastic meal. My hubby had the pie which he said was delicious and I had the haloumi burger because it was that good. I am ceoliac and the staff could not of been more helpful, they assured me that everything was gluten free and it was because I had no I’ll effects. I had the Black Forest knickerbocker glory again all gluten free and it was the pub pudding I’d ever eaten.

A last minute decision could have turned into a disaster as we hadn't booked for food. 6 adults & 4 dogs isn't always the easiest party to accommodate but we were made to feel welcome! We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Kings Arms last night. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. They made an effort to talk to us and were kind and patient with our children. In terms of the food, the pub are running a reduced menu at present (I think to ensure staff can adhere to social distancing in the kitchen - but may be wrong about this) however there was still a good selection of options to choose from. There isn’t a separate kids menu, but they offer (generous) half portions of all the menu items, including fish and chips, burger, mac & cheese. Our meals were all delicious and well presented. We also had dessert and the chocolate brownie was particularly tasty! As a strange aside, the team have made a significant effort to ensure staff and visitor safety and have implemented strategies to reduce risks relating to Covid-19 in the most unobtrusive way possible. It’s reassuring to know that this has been considered and is being taken seriously. Unfortunately there was no facility for leaving a tip when paying by card, which was a shame as we would definitely have liked to but aren’t carrying cash at the moment as most places are card only! Thanks for a lovely meal and experience.

About a year ago this pub was taken over from a pubco/Brewery and is now a small business that focuses on excellent food, with as many ingredients sourced locally. Because this was my first time trying this pub I opted for a simple dish: a game burger. It was excellent and next time Ill try something from the more adventurous a la Carte menu. They have a good range of well kept real ales and they seemed to be from a 40 mile radius of the pub. The decor is traditional but very clean and well kept.If supported by people I think this has the potential to turn into a good gastro pub. If you last went here before 2018 its worth trying again!

I was enjoying an afternoon at this lovely country pub, and I got up to go to the toilet. When I returned the immensely talented chef was sat in my seat. He informed me he was keeping it warm for my return. Tell me where else in the country you could find that kind of service? 5*

Came here for dinner on spec with my sister. Pub was booked throughout except for a small table. Service was good, although a little slow due to there being a table of 20 who had just ordered. We were well looked after and the food was tasty, although I felt the macaroni cheese portion was a little on the small side. Have eaten here before under previous owners and feel this is now much improved

The new owners Faye and Richard have done an amazing job turning The Kings Arms around over the last year. Their enthusiasm for their business is obvious from the minute you walk in the pub.

We have been into the Kings Arms several times now for both dinner and drinks, the food is excellent with a balanced choice and regularly updated menu with additional ‘specials’ and Sunday Roast not to be missed, with a good choice of local cider and ale and wide range of wines and spirits. The staff are outstanding, friendly and efficient, nothing is too much trouble. We run some holiday cottages locally and I always recommend The Kings Arms to my guests with confidence.

The food was excellent and staff dealt with a food allergy professionally. The landlord and landlady were knowledgeable and welcoming. The pub is cosy, with little nooks and crannies and a lot of history. Highly recommended.

Food was wonderful and the staff excellent. Richard and Faye have done a brilliant job in turning this pub around since they moved in just over a year ago.

I've been to this pub twice on my visit to Winkleigh and you feel like you already know the place if you know what i mean. Friendly staff, friendly people. Good time spent. And very good local drinks. The meat is coming from a nearby butcher which is also great.

Faye and her team coped brilliantly in a super busy bar tonight in this quaint and charming historical pub. Food was great- burgers from "The Mad Butcher" cooked and served to perfection and gorgeous other home cooked specials. Well worth a visit.

The van runs a generator all day to power the van, noisy and polluting. must be a greener way to run a business.

We have heard that a new chef is just starting work here. Perhaps this explains our sorry excuse for a meal. For the record we have had several excellent if pricey meals at this restaurant. This meal was pricey but a million miles from excellent. There was a weird-tasting buttersquash soup oddly paired with a far from fresh hard pork pie apparently found in the freezer, a tiny square of cheese and a portion of chutney. Did they run out of bread? Apparently knives were also in short supply because we ended up sharing one between us. There was an oddly flavoured sausage roll type thing with almost raw cabbage, fried carrots in skins and a separate dish from which three lonely roast potatoes contemplated this culinary car crash - and which were the only pleasantly edible items. All this in a restaurant formerly well-regarded for its excellent home-grown vegetables. We felt ill afterwards. We noted during our visit although the gardens were quite busy with family visitors few of them chose to eat in the restaurant. We did wonder why - and now we know. Rosemoor is not a cheap day out and hard-pressed families are not going to add to the expense of visiting the gardens with a bad expensive meal. Other restaurants are available and sadly we can't consider coming back unless we see clear evidence of improvement in Tripadvisor reviews.

Ate here twice. Food is reasonably priced. However, no fish in the fish pie and I am 100% sure that our fish n chips came from the local chippy. No way was this cooked on site. Another meal had totally different chips served. And I definitely wouldn’t order from whatever chippy it was! Staff v nice, service good and some music we heard was absolutely fantastic. We would return but will be selective in what we order.

A cosy, traditional Devon country pub serving a good Sunday lunch. The staff were very welcoming and the locals charming to chat with. We enjoyed a roast beef lunch with the trimmings, and a delicious bowl of bread pudding and custard. Good value at under £20 each and a lovely place to be on a rainy winters day. Car park just across the road on the A386, don't drive by, stop and decide what you think.

2nd time I have ate in this place whilst staying at Premier Inn and bar closes at 930pm despite saying 11pm on website and didn’t even hear last orders called out - will stay elsewhere when next down
