We stopped here for lunch and had the tapas option. The food was excellent and portions generous, when we left we felt like Tweedledum and Tweedledee! The fish bites were fantastic with large chunks of cod and salmon, the vegetable tagine was also superb with lots of apricot. My wife liked her squid (she's weird) and the halloumi fries we shared were a great touch. It's a pleasant dining area very spacious and service was pleasant and personable too.

We Were a group of 9 'gents' , some more active than others. In fact 5 of us had arrived late from an interesting but very wet walk around the outskirts of Malmesbury Wet and muddy, we were greeted warmly and directed to an area to get out of our wet gear. The rest of the 9 were already eating their meal but our lateness did not seem to phase our lady host who in quick order provided drinks and menus. I was not expecting Greek food and needed advice about what to order which was cordially provided. I had chargrilled chicken in a flatbread wrap with fries. The popular BBQ ribs had already been snapped up by those who had arrived on time!! The ribs (what was left of them!) we're the biggest! The friendly staff and setting alone would get 5 stars. The Greek food was an unexpected bonus.

Thought we’d get a quick meal whilst in Malmesbury and opted for the kings arms as tapas seemed like a smart bet for quick and easy eating. I wish we hadn’t bothered. We got an okay pint to start with and were directed to a table. We easily got the attention of the server when we were ready to order but who also had some advice on dishes. Once we ordered a few dishes for our table of 4 we waited about half an hour before anything was brought out. The first dish to arrive was the recommended meat platter, I don’t know how it took them 30 minutes to take 6 slices of meat out a packet and toast 2 small bits of focaccia for 4 people. I thought as this £12 dish was recommended for the 4 of us that we may at least get 4 bits of bread. Another 10 minutes goes by and other dishes are brought out to us. 2 tiny dishes of fried chicken (though could probably be described as dried chicken), some meatballs and a ‘special’ which was 3 unidentifiable fried balls of various flavour and some mayonnaise… certainly not special. Having sat questioning if the quantity of chicken we were provided really was all we would be getting, someone came back over and said “sorry one of those dishes isn’t for you so I’m going to take it back and you can share one of the dishes” a special wrap had also been ordered but not arrived so we questioned this at the time. He took our chicken away and then came back and told us the chicken had now been put in that wrap and that’s what it was actually for. The wrap that was brought over was almost fridge cold. We then told them of this fact and were offered two options, ‘don’t have it, or we can microwave it for you’ as apparently there was no more chicken in the premises. It came back after what I assume was just a second stint in the microwave and it was if anything worse. We decided to get out of there so went to settle up. £87 for 4 of us to have an okay pint, cold chicken and a bit of meat. Upon our horror they kindly deducted the cost of the wrap that back and forthed the restaurant so £20 each we finished on. To walk away hungry filled with nothing but regret.

We had heard good things about this pub, so decided to book in. It was a busy Thursday early evening (the kitchen closes at 8pm) . The welcome was warm and friendly from a delightful young man at the bar. Before we sat at our table, they kindly informed us there was a party of 11 in and to order quickly, if possible. Another young man, came to take our order and was helpful with recommendations. The food arrived and we had croquettes - very nice, so too the special lamb stew, sadly the potato gravas, aubergine and lentil stew and fried fish were not quite so good, seeming to lack seasoning….

Expecting a pub we instead found a beautiful space, or rather spaces. The bar area, a window seat, and a large, bright space under a skylight perfect for a larger gathering. All tastefully and beautifully decorated. Check out the amazing 150-year old olive tree. Wow! The licensees Simon and Marianne have created a welcoming, friendly environment and offer an exciting and mouth-wateringly delicious range of tapas-style food from 21 countries. We had 7 generously-sized, for tapas, dishes and will return to have more. What was particularly impressive was the ability to cater for all tastes, allergies, and dietary needs. Superb and very highly recommended.

We has a lovely time at the KAs with our friends, whom we had not seen since the start of the pandemic. The restaurant was immaculate, and COVID precautions well respected. We were impressed with the choice and quality of the tapas menu, with the fish bites, padron peppers, meat balls and meat pasties particularly commendable. The merlot we chose was both delicious and affordable. The staff were prompt, knowledgeable and very helpful indeed. The restaurant was also dog friendly, which conferred an extra bonus. If we lived locally, we would definitely be regulars!

We arrived before our 3pm slot on Saturday expecting great things. The guy on reception looked like we'd disturbed his chain of thought and dismissively told us to get a drink, find a table and someone would be along. We snagged a table and a couple of cokes and after waiting 30 minutes concluded that we were in the wrong place. I checked on my way out but no, we were in the Kings Arms alright. There must have been 4 tables occupied in total so it's not like they were rushed off their feet! I'd love to rate the food but we never had any & there's better, more smiley service in a Russian carwash. Don't waste your time, find somewhere that actually serves food, you know, to your table and all that jazz.

We'd booked a table for two hoping to have a quiet dinner during what has been a testing time with lockdown over Christmas 2020. Tension was heightened by Mr Hancock at 1500. Unfortunately all the youths of Malmesbury seemed to descend upon the same venue and in an absolutely unprecedented event seemed to have all arrived from a single household. Covid rules were out of the question although the owner did seem to warn the crowds, this advice fell on deaf ears and a couple of Greek salads and 48 bottles of Peroni later all seemed to be forgotten. I've nothing against the food or service, but the locals are taking the piss somewhat.

He visto buenas críticas aquí y me pregunto si el chef adecuado estaba fuera. !

Good grief, the place had been closed for ages and half the High Street taken up with construction vehicles for weeks, so we thought 'We must give the new King's Arms a go'. The board outside offered open fires, a new menu, a specials board and even dogs welcome. What could go wrong?Well, today, we took our dog, jockeyed for a parking space nearby and went in. The welcome was cheerful and jolly and as we were the first people to arrive for lunch, we had a choice of tables. No fire, though, on a grey old day...The refurbished decor is already looking tired and amateurish, with long drapy curtains cascading over the floor, poorly (re-)upholstered chairs and scuffed paintwork. Not to mention the dirt and dust on the windowsills and the general lack of ambience.Anyway, the cheerful server took our drinks order and brought us a menu, which is basically a choice of tapas from different Mediterranean countries. So far, so good. 'What were the specials?' we asked, looking at the blank board. We were told that the specials 'finished yesterday' and that the chef was off and a temporary chef was in the kitchen. Ooh-ooh, alarm bells started to ring gently.Oh, and please, cheerful serving lady, do not keep touching your diners when you are standing near them taking orders or explaining why there are no specials - not everyone (such as me) likes being touched by a complete stranger.Nonetheless, we placed any order, slightly put off by the high (we thought) prices for each item (around £6 or more each), and sat there drinking our drinks and taking in the disappointing surroundings - disappointing because the place has just been refurbished. The food duly arrived. Served in tiny individual and barely warmed dishes, 2 of the 3 tapas we tried were deep-fried and soon stone-cold. The third, chicken strips, came without any adornment, although there might have been a hint of lemon juice to jazz it up. Goodness me, it and the others all needed it!We managed to eat the chicken, but the fish pieces were awful and the squid uninteresting. In all, the bill came to £21.50 for the tiny portions of food and drinks. That may not seem like much, but we felt we had just thrown our money away. It would have been much better spent donating it to the British Legion and going home for lunch!Sorry KA@Malmesbury, but you have a long, long way to go if you are to tempt us back.

Other people on here are obviously looking for more for their money. Quiet and peaceful sleep. Bed was broken in one of the rooms however they made up for it with a free breakfast as the previous occupants in the room didn't want to tell the staff. The only issue we had was that the taxi services in the area was shockingly bad, literally only 2 taxi cars working in the 20 mile radius so if you are looking to go to a wedding or something make sure your taxi is booked in advance and the other is that the overall town feels like the town from the film in Hot Fuzz, you definitely feel like an outsider there.

I recently stayed at the kings arms hotel with 3 other family members due to attending a concert at the nearby location of westonbirt and the hotel was reasonably priced. Let's just say that I would not be staying at this hotel again and I wouldn't recommend it. There are many reasons why which I will now state below. 1. Our welcoming to the hotel was very slow but did feel sorry for the young girl who did eventually checked us in as she seemed to be running the place on her own. 2. Me and my sister were placed in a stable twin room which was not ready by the specified time of 3pm even though we didn't arrive until 3:45pm the room still contained all the cleaning products and a rubbish bag just left on the floor. We did let the young girl know and after around another 20 minutes the room was ready.3. Very limited wifi, inaccessible from rooms only in reception. 4. Disgusting smell of dried sick in the stable room that made us feel physically ill which did not go away.5. Broken elements in the room, curtain pole hanging off the wall, fallen apart lampshades, in need of new mattresses. 6. Carpet definitely had not been hoovered and desperately needed it7. Found a small bug in my bed which I found disgusting.8. Dirty tea/coffee mugs.9. Difficult lock to use on the door. 10. Room felt dirty to be in even though the cleaner had just been in.I don't normally complain like this but some higher standards are needed at this hotel immediately. I can't comment on the food as I didn't eat at the hotel. The best part about the hotel was the beer garden area outside.

The reception staff were very helpful in showing us alternative rooms on arrival but the rest of it was a dire experience. Room faced onto the high street which, with no double glazing, was noisy from the traffic and drunken people on Friday & Saturday nights. There was noise until 11 p.m. from below ourroom - 'the human jukebox' one night and disco the next. Every time the entrance door below opened the noise was not only heard but the vibration shook the floor. The ceiling plaster was falling off and the shower had no hot water. The bed was so uncomfortable I used the sofa cushions to sleep on. Thank goodness we brought our own electric fan. We were expecting free parking onsite but you needed to fold the wing mirrors in to get through the narrow entrance and there were frequently no spaces so you had to come back out again. So glad to come home

Firstly we arrived to discover the entrance to the car park was very narrow, my Almera just made it down, anything bigger would struggle. We were greeted by a friendly lady who checked us in and told us that their new chef was starting in the morning so breakfast was free. Good start. Then we headed through dingy corridors to our room (room 3) Alarm bells were going off already at how dark and musty the place felt. We entered our room and my heart sank. It was tiny, on a huge slant and absolutely filthy. Dust everywhere, still urine in the loo from previous occupant, shower had mould on the head and pipe, the bathroom light didn't work so I had to use my phone torch, stupidly I lifted the seat of the toilet.... i almost vomited. The windows were rotting away and the net curtains were horribly stained and ripped. I sat on the bed and felt like I was being stabbed a hundred times by springs. We could hear loads of noise surrounding the room and could hear word for word the neighbouring rooms conversations. My partner and I agreed we couldn't stay in that room. We asked for a room change and were told she was sorry about the room, they'd had problems with housekeeper and she was being sacked in the morning, however they had no rooms. We set out to find another hotel and got lucky at the old bell. I said I refused to pay a cancellation fee due to the fact the room was not fit for purpose and was told I wouldn't have to.., hopefully I won't be charged.Separately we did pop in for a drink as we were in the area for a wedding and most guests were staying there. The bar is ok but limited on products and a screw top prosecco is beyond me!!? They told us they were shutting the bar at 10.30 but we could go in the lounge and they would bring drinks over. After we moved across the pub was locked and no staff to be seen! We did pop into some of the guests rooms to see theirs, whilst they were still bad, they were not as dire as the one we were given.

I spent over a week and gods knows how many phone calls phoning the place to speak to the manager (who is never there) and was told that the refund had been done but still after another week of waiting still have not received!!!! Phoned again and was told that someone would call me in an hour but at the time of writing this still nothing... The best thing to do is avoid this place like the plague

Went in for a drink. Walked into the bar and were told to go opposite, went opposite and were told to go back where we had come from. Not very good customer service. Some of the beers were off. The lager wasn't that impressive. Went and sat in the garden, it was grubby. A barbacue with the lid off and thrown on the floor, cigarette ends all around. The bar itself looked dirty with a big puddle on the floor, not sure what that was. Cigarette ends all down the cobbled alleyway. Wouldn't eat here and wouldn't go again. Has great potential, but what about a bit of tidying and cleaning.

Arrived after being tempted by their menu we walked in to be greeted by a sign that said, 'please take a seat and you will be table served. The table we choose was dirty but we sat anyway and shortly a friendly girl took our order. My beer was a bit cloudy but a tasted okay. I ordered shredded beef with chilli on a jacket potato but was told it was in fact 'chilli-con-carne' which I had guessed. The jacket potato was very good but the salad and coleslaw wasn't up to much, but the biggest disappointment was the chilli that wasn't fully cooked. But of an amateurs attempt but seemed home cooked. My wife ordered a tuna sandwich and given the choice of brown bread with cucumber, but this didn't arrive and a white door stop sandwich arrived fit for a transport cafe which wasn't very pleasant. Anybody that knows anything about the pub industry knows that the toilets MUST be clean, however the gents were far from clean which I pointed out but the bar staff didn't seemed that overly bothered of fused that the lights had not been turned on. Overall we wouldn't rush to return.

Firstly, if you have a large car and want to use their Car Park, take your life into your own hands. You have to turn between 2 buildings under an arch. It is EXTREMELY narrow. This is a Local's Pub with accommodation for those needing such, so expect rather a lot of the locals using the Bar and outside drinking areas. Rooms are small, clean but dated, especially the bathroom I had, which was VERY dated. While I was served a drink in decent time, trying to order food later that evening took an eternity - I believe due to the fact that there were just 2 staff on customer duty. Food itself, basic, but well cooked and well priced. Under the circumstances - I stayed on the hottest night of the year, I had a good sleep, and by 8 a.m. was ready for a good breakfast. However, nobody in reception, no smell of food in fact nobody around at all, until a lady appeared at 8:15 and said that cooked breakfast would be 'A While'. She had to 'find' the chef!!! By 8:25, still no chef, so I paid my bill and left. Not a visit I would want to recommend to others, so, I won't!

We went for an evening meal - it was a bit quiet but the food was superb. My husband had steak, I had lamb, someone else had the burger and one child ate from the children's menu. First of all, the children's menu - fish fingers usually mean orange breadcrumbs but no, this meal was pieces of cod (I think) in a batter, with chips and beans. I wanted to eat it too! The burger meal was very good, as was my lamb, and my husband's steak was cooked to PERFECTION. He asks for medium rare and that's what he got. So, we thought the food was extremely good. Dessert (sticky toffee pudding) was amazing too, as was cheese and biscuits. The service was very slow, however, but hopefully that will change.

I met some mates we had lunch while watching the football, good food £8 for a steak sandwich and chips very good. My room overlooked the street it was ok but a tad used old wardrobe I would say the room needed a facelift, kettle tea & coffee in the room and small flat screen tv. We came back at night the bar was very busy with a lively atmosphere. I didn't stay for breakfast I was leaving early Sunday 8am there was no one around to hand the key back to or settle my bill, I phoned them when I got home. Nice enough all round probably suited the reasonable price for just a room.

Stopped here Friday evening the week before Christmas with my two small Children whilst we had dropped a family member at a nearby work Christmas party. I was rather concerned about finding anywhere with a spare table but The King's Arms looked pretty quiet. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff (Jasmine) who welcomed us and showed us to a table. The children's menu was just perfect for what my little ones needed, with a more than substantial menu for me too. I asked for some bread for starters and was presented with a fantastic, brilliantly presented board of bread, dipping oils and olives. The children's food was excellent and included ice cream too so I had two very happy little ones! My burger was first class, brilliantly presented and featuring excellent quality meat.Jasmine could not have been more helpful and attentive, making us (and particularly the children) extremely welcome and well looked after. This was the perfect stop gap for what we needed. Excellent quality and value for money. The other half of the establishment is the bar area which was hosting some very good love music as we left. We popped our heads in and I think the children though it was great (as did I) but we had to return to our taxi duty.Thank you for a perfect evening meal.

I wouldn't have minded but I checked they were still doing breakfast before I brought our party of 7 in the door! Give the chef more staff please. The poor staff, including the chef, seemed to be the victim of management penny pinching who then lost £70 sales.

We were in Malmesbury for the evening and we had brought the dog, well puppy really, and were looking for somewhere to eat. There seemed little choice and we ended up here - because they did not allow dogs in the restaurant we had to eat in the bar - the bar was one of those bars with a sports screen, incredibly high volume music and somewhat rough and ready - the hotel dining room on the other side of the passage looked more refined - the food was actually quite good but eating a meal with such a racket going on was really not conducive to a pleasant evening.

We spent two nights here recently - the hotel is an attractive old inn, conveniently situated in the centre of Malmesbury. Some allowance for the fact that the building is 500 years old and constrained by the proximity of other buildings should be made when comparing it with a bland modern purpose built establishment - the place has charm, it's generally clean, comfortable and the food is good. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. That said there is scope for improvement - for me the biggest let down was the noise generated by the small number of folk who gathered in the narrow covered way that leads to the hotel car park. While walking around Malmesbury at 11pm at night I found the quiet serenity of the place so pleasant, but on returning to the inn half a dozen people (most of whom didn't appear to be customers) were making an infernal racket only a few feet away from my bedroom window. The noise continued until well after midnight and was repeated the following evening. I do think that the management should address this issue - even if they put up a sign reminding people talk quietly after 11pm it would be something. But for this annoyance I would have awarded the hotel 4 stars in my review. One other point, I mentioned earlier that the place was generally clean - the net curtains in Room 7 were disgusting however, they looked as if they hadn't been washed in years.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
