Interesting old pub, refurbished to a high standard, with friendly staff & superb food. The homemade scotch eggs are highly recommended but the menu provides a variety of seasonal dishes and irresistible desserts - including a panna cotta with rhubarb.

We booked a table for lunch on Mother’s Day and had the most amazing food in the outside area of the pub. The garden was beautiful, lots of families and the sun was shining! The roast was fantastic! Great meat and lots of vegetables too. We ordered a dessert to share and we wished we ordered one each instead of sharing one 😂. Best ever. Staff was great too and very friendly. Such a great find, we will be back! Thank you so much and as we say in Italy “Complimenti al cuoco!!!”

Came here for a Sunday roast. Thank you to the owner who accommodated us with short notice. We are so pleased he did as we ended up having the best roast dinner we’ve ever had. Absolutely beautiful. My husband had the roast chicken and I had the vegetarian option. Butternut squash, celeriac and fennel. Rich and tasty and just could not fault it. Can’t recommend the food here enough. Great service and very welcoming.

Came for a celebration of a new job and to sample the menu under the new management. The food is excellent, great trout starter for myself and croquettes for my lady. Steak and ale pie for her (cats mother) main and venison for myself. No complaint about any of the food. Service was excellent and we will be visiting again. A bit chilly so wrap up warm this time of year.

We went here on new years eve for dinner, it's was our second time here in the space of 6 months and wow.... the food was amazing. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection it tasted incredible. My husband has the steak and ale pie and said it was the best pie he has had. Starter and desserts were also amazing The staff were wonderful polite and nothing was too much. We will 100% be coming back and highly recommend to anyone wanting 5* food in a warm friendly welcoming pub.

We booked a table for our family to have Sunday lunch together. We all ordered starters and mains as well as a couple of desserts. All the food was beautifully presented and tasted great with the only minor issue being the fish main course that was cold in the middle. It seemed that it had perhaps been prepared first and waited for the other dishes before being served. Nevertheless, we would highly recommend the food, service and ambience which was busy but not too noisy. A lovely place for a meal.

We arrived via a lane divert because of storm Darragh early evening without a booking. The moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The pub has a good selection of wines and ales. The chef opened the kitchen up early for us and we enjoyed a wonderful meal in lovely surroundings at a candlelit table. The food was just perfect, well presented and super tasty. We cannot wait to return in the New Year.

We had a really enjoyable Sunday lunch here a few weekend ago. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The pub is in a lovely village location, the decor is pared back and tasteful. The star of the show was the food. My friend had the roast pork and said it was like the best home cooking. Puds were a winner too. I would highly recommend.

A great welcome. we especially enjoyed the banter with the owners. We selected this pub for dinner having not been here before. All three courses were very enjoyable. Starters were croquets and the charcuterie option followed by the venison and the steak pie. We followed up with the brownie and the sticky toffee pudding to finish - both excellent. The Otter ale was kept to perfection and the Remy as a digestif was also spot on. We had a quibble with our wine. Not to our taste but was swapped without question by the proprietor. Exemplary service. We visited one week into our holiday. It was so good that I can see us visiting again before we have to return home.

Absolutely perfect! Gorgeous pub, with gorgeous food! The setting is so lovely and relaxed. Owner and staff were all very attentive. They really do deserve to do well and I'm sure they will! It's absolutely brilliant. Our first meeting with the inn was when we stopped to ask for directions. The owner, staff, and patrons were all amazing and so friendly. Not only did they get us on the right road, they also made us feel like we had been going there for years. I was so taken with the warmth of their help that we decided to come back and dine. Making the most of the sunny weather to eat an early al fresco dinner in the colourful, tranquil garden of this village pub, starters comprised mozzarella with heritage tomatoes and charcuterie plate, both dishes bursting with flavour. A large dressed crab salad with chips and pork tenderloin with veg followed as mains. Almost too full to eat a pudding, we shared a delicious and surprisingly light sticky toffee pudding with ice cream, dripping with a rich caramel sauce. Add good beer, great wine and 0.0% Guiness, it was a perfect evening meal.

Staying the night in Yarcombe on a bike tour and decided to head to this nearby pub hoping for a traditional homely meal — steak and kidney pie with apple crumble for pudding was specifically in mind. As luck would have it, Wednesdays are Thai-only night so settled for spring rolls, a beef main course with rice and a chicken main course (no pudding available sadly)…. Quirky cuisine but tasty and filling. Fantastic customer service from a cheerful manager and lovely waitresses. Really appreciated the two log fires coming in from the cold and great to hobnob with friendly East Devon locals gathered round it. In short, a splendid evening.

One of the warmest & most friendly pubs, I have ever visited. I stayed in this lovely village via Airbnb for two nights & from the moment we entered the Kings Arms, we were greeted with huge smiles & friendly greetings from staff & locals alike. So much so, that we're were very kindly invited on a locals organised walk event the next day (which was great) and everyone were so friendly & welcoming. This is a proper community pub & you get that from everyone in there and nothing is too much trouble for them & food & service are also excellent too. What a great find! I need a half way stop on my way to Cornwall and decided on The Kings Arms. So glad I did. A really cosy pub with friendly, helpful staff. My room was great, big, very clean, nice bathroom with very hot water, complementary sparkling water. Naturally you’ll get a bit of noise being in a pub, but after closing time it was beautifully quiet. In East Devon and surrounding area there are excellent pubs to go for a good roast dinner with excellent service, and the King's Arms in Stockland IS NOT ONE OF THEM! What a huge disappointment! We went there for a Sunday roast, and our dinner was ruined by the VERY YOUNG and clearly inefficient, inexperienced staff that the manager Ben Walker employs. They are students from secondary school, without any idea on how to serve a table, never mind deliver a good customer service! Firstly, I my roast dinner arrived without vegetables, I had to ask for it, waited 10 minutes and it was cold. Secondly, my husband didn't have his main course, only his starter. When we asked the very young waiter where his dinner was, Ben Walker (a very short man, whom was clearly overworked and looked very tired and fed up), came to our table and talked to us in a very rude manner in front of everybody. Clearly, Ben Walker had had a very bad day and cannot cope with managing a busy pub, so he had to give a 'show' in front of his customers to boost his 'ego'. It was totally utterly unnecessary and unacceptable. I do not recommend this place. Go to the Tucker's Arms in Dalwood instead! Excellent food and customer's service!

It feels awful to have to leave a bitter and horrible review for one of our local pubs but unfortunately I have no choice in the matter. We just had the most horrendous and upsetting experiences at the Kings Arms in Stockland, Devon, ironically after so looking forward to this special Sunday roast! (for several months as we are very busy people). Weirdly and unexpectedly, after waiter orders went awry, their Manager, Ben Walker was utterly and unnecessarily and embarrassingly rude to us, including in front of other dining guests, putting his staff and their word before us (which was in hindsight really unfair as they were the ones at fault!) His negativity and aggressive attitude clearly commenced the second we walked in the pub, as he was totally off with us from the start! We were utterly appalled by his demeanour and false accusations later on as things worsened and altercations began! We are the paying customer and due respect and dignity ought to be paramount! Truly, I have never been so humiliated or insulted in my life, and I work in hospitality, so I know how important it is to understand your customers and deal with them in the right way! He was bang out of order, untoward, rude, unacceptable and completely unprofessional! We have sent hundreds of our guests there over the years for dinner as we run a highly successful 5* B&B (for 8 years now). Not only have I left the pub today without having had the roast dinner I actually ordered; we leave highly insulted and I would never set foot in this premises again, nor would I ever send anyone there in case they suffered a similar nasty experience. Clearly Ben must have had a really bad day, but to take it out on us was totally unprofessional. What a sad turn of events when you used to "love your local", but no apology in the Universe would allow me to forgive this totally appalling behavior! Clearly the in-experienced very young staff need more training to deliver what is basically required and the manager needs to wash his mouth out.

As this pub is a little out of the way it would be easy for the landlord to be a tad casual in his approach to service or quality but nothing could be further from the truth! He and his team are excellent, friendly, happy in their work, knowledgeable and bloody good at what they do! The food is first class, our little group enjoyed the most succulent pork belly, the crispiest fish and chips and a properly cooked juicy burger and without a shadow of a doubt the best chips I've eaten in 25 years! I actually spoilt one of the chips by dipping it in ketchup! Delicious real ales rounded off a very memorable experience, thank you all 👍👍

Beautiful location, very friendly welcoming staff, fantastic top quality food. The food is very delicately presented, relatively small portions but very, very tasty. The baked brill and mussels was excellent, beautiful deep rich sauce, perfect accompaniment of vegetables. Lamb was very good too. Starters also great quality, top restaurant standard. A couple of observations: The waiting staff were very busy so I had to call for attention a couple of times. They are very, very polite and professional but ideally would have more time to check our status. The desserts are pretty disappointing when compared to the rest of the menu, at least not very exciting or original. The sticky toffee pudding was wonderful; the tart had rubbery, virtually inedible pastry which is a shame as the rest of it was very nice. Other desserts were very run-of-the-mill, albeit no doubt reasonable quality (eg ice cream from Baboo).
