Oh! What a wonderful find The Kingfisher Arms is. As a solo female there were no funny looks or chances. I felt very safe. I had great chats with people at the bar, & from the staff. I ate here two nights on the bounce & this morning people in my B & B were rightly raving about the food & atmosphere. The crab sandwich is something to behold.

My god they are superb, seriously you will not get better anywhere else, and I mean that. I don't know where it's all going. Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but I think when you go out for a meal it should be better then you can do at home. Just come back from the kingfisher. Frozen peas frozen chips and bag salad. I know things have gone up but things have got ridiculous. You're better to stay at home and get it all from tescos. The service was good and good atmosphere but overpriced like all country pubs have become.

Pretty pub in Central location. Went in for a meal and to watch the football, as, we were staying in the old bakehouse b n b opposite. Welcoming landlord and staff. Nice long beer garden with view of the church. Good selection of food on main menu and specials board. Had to order ar bar but that understandable with how the pub trade staffing issues are these days.. The food was very prompt. We both had delicious starters and fish mains, portion sizes were good for the price. My husbands pud of cherry and strawberry mess was rather too large! If we could make a positive critique we thought the tastes were all lovely but the visuals of each dish could be improved.

Super cosy traditional village pub! Warm and friendly staff, and very accomodating. We had a lite lunch which although only a sandwich was quite substantial. Prices seemed average for a meal out these days, which aren't as reasonable as they once were! Good selection of beers, ales, and ciders, and a decent choice on the menu. Right in the heart of this ancient settlement renown for being the most rebellious village in Devon, the kingfisher was a welcomed watering hole along the trail.

My husband and I wanted to go out for lunch and decided to come to The Kingfisher. We had both attended separate Christmas parties here and found the food and atmosphere to be excellent. The staff were very welcoming and asked if we wanted to eat in the garden or the restaurant. The garden area is beautiful, and very picturesque, but we had had a few spots of rain earlier, so opted for the restaurant, which was cosy and quiet, lit with strings of lights that gave it a cosy, welcoming feel. Our drinks and meals were ordered at the bar, the specials board had tempted us to order the ribeye steak, with chips, onion rings, tomatoes etc., and peppercorn sauce. (I have been told that their speciality is seafood, so if you enjoy fresh fish or scallops, cooked to a high standard, then I would recommend coming here). A member of staff brought us forks and steak knives wrapped in a napkin, and asked if we needed anything else. When the meal arrived it looked amazing. Our peppercorn sauce came in two individual sauce boats, so we could add as much or as little as we liked. The meal was hot and cooked to perfection. We both asked for our steak to be medium, and that is what we got. The chips were golden: crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The battered onion rings were scrunchy. And the steak... What can I say?? It was so full of flavour, and it practically melted in your mouth. I think that the steak knives were unnecessary, the meat was so tender. It was an amazing meal, and a wonderful eating experience. The whole ambience of The Kingfisher speaks of a pride in the business and the experience that they offer to those of us lucky enough to visit this gem. Be it a drink at the bar, or a meal in the restaurant or garden, you are certain to have a warm welcome and a memory to treasure.

We booked a table for 4 people but we were placed in the bar adjacent to the front door of the pub. The pub/ restaurant was busy and the atmosphere was great. The food was very good , hot , tasty and well presented and we didn’t need to wait very long either…you need to order at the bar and they serve to the table. The only negative was that towards the end of our meal a group of local teenagers/young adults entered and they were so so loud and oblivious to normal etiquette in a place of dining and community gathering..!!!The staff neglected to politely ask them to quietly go about their business….we had to consciously increase our talking volumes in order to be heard from across a very small table….!!! Management should’ve spoken to them but apart from that the food was good.

It was really busy when I arrived which is always a good sign. As such the only tables available were outside either in the alleyway or the garden. I found a table in the alleyway which is much nicer than it sounds and ordered my food at the bar. I ordered garlic and blue cheese mushrooms as a starter and then asked for a change to the specials item so there would be no meat in the risotto that came with the salmon. The mushroom were delicious and then the main course arrived. Unfortunately there had been some misunderstanding as it still had meat in it and when I queried it I was told that what looked like bacon were pieces of fish. One taste told me otherwise 🙁 I returned to the bar with my meal and was intercepted by the owner who was there and she dealt with the issue immediately. My meal was replaced and when it arrived was absolutely delicious, a sundries tomato and pea risotto with pan fried crumbed salmon with micro greens, beautifully cooked and presented. The food is top notch, it’s a really nice pub and the owner clearly gives her full attention to detail. It’s a shame I’m only in the area for one day as I’d definitely visit again

Valentines Day Tuesday Family Lunch 14th Feb 2023 - Booked a table over the phone for the 5 of us in the restaurant. The bar and the restaurant area are both truly lovely (like a traditional pub from a picture book!). The lighting and decorations are quite magical. So glad we booked, because it was quite busy. Our table was really perfect for us. Plenty of space for the high chair and for the kids to sit down. The pub gets extra points for the fact that the high chair was CLEAN! The whole place has a general very calm happy relaxed atmosphere - but at the same time the staff are attentive and efficient and welcoming. The menu has a very good variety and really great lunch options. The food and drinks are of a high standard - drinks were brought out very quickly. Didn’t have to wait long for the food either. Staying in the local area we decided to meet up with other family members for an evening meal and catch-up. Knowing this pub does food from Wednesday through to Sunday lunchtime decided this would be a good place to visit. We booked and arrived just on opening time and was met with a very welcoming greeting by the bar person. Once we placed our order, in a very short space of time the starter course arrived, and on completion of this and table cleared, again the main meals arrived well presented and hot. The pricing was well within most budgets and with the specials board there is a good variety to choose from concidering the size of the village. Definitely on future visits this is a place on the list for food.

Great venue for lunch, always busy, good food at reasonable prices. Until today, prices have risen, the place was half empty, the food still good but not exceptional so why the price hike? My breaded plaice with chips, peas and tartare sauce was £16.99! It was nice enough, not outstanding and available elsewhere in Sidmouth for a lot less. If they want more profit and less customers I think this approach will work, we will think twice before returning as there are many other places to eat locally that offer better value for similar food.

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!
