Went for coffee this morning, what an ordeal! We sat outside, no table service, so went in to order our coffees and the girl behind the counter asked for our table number. She refused to fill my order without a table number. I am 70 years old. How many elderly people have also had to walk back and forth from the garden? There is NO signage directing service, no signage about table numbers. Ridiculous. The girl behind the counter was about as unpleasant as it was possible to be. Who on earth wants this kind of service/treatment? Especially when you are parting with your money. I will let everyone I know just how awful this place is. Only one table indoors had two customers seated. Outside had only a few customers. What a warm welcome to Devon......not.

Stopped of for refreshments today and had the added bonus of the band playing in the gardens! This is where the praise ends. Unfortunately we witnessed really bad customer service whilst we were there! There was an elderly man who obviously required a little help with information on the food available. He was treated as if he was stupid by 3 separate staff members who spoke to him like he was a nuisance. And they had absolutely no interest in helping him choose something to eat. He was given literally 2 options of something with chips to choose when he had actually asked about sandwiches and cake! I cannot believe that people working within the hospitality field have no people skills! It would have taken 2 minutes for one of them to go through a few of the options with this gentleman but instead they made him feel like a huge problem! This gentleman was elderly NOT stupid and I really think your staff should polish up on there customer service!

Took my six year old granddaughter to lunch at the cafe today........ a first for both of us. We ordered from the children's menu, the Pop Crackle Chicken meal which stated that the chicken was chicken breast. It turned out to be reclaimed meat and certainly not chicken breast and maybe not even chicken. It was grey and stringy. We complained and our money was reimbursed. The waitress apologized and said they had no idea when they ordered the product that it was not chicken breast and they were about to change it. We questioned why it was advertised as chicken breast and she repeated that the item was being changed. Not a good experience.

On a weeks break and popped in for a sandwich. Been before and once again not disappointed except for..... serving food on wooden boards. Not just here I know, so it's a bit of a general complaint by me.. Perhaps if I'd asked for a plate I would have got one. We had the sandwiches and they were fresh and great. Nicely accompanied by some salad and kettle type Crisps. Added a portion of chips which were nice. Lady who served up was very chatty, helpful and keen to make sure that the door was closed so that we didn't get cold.

We were booked in to the Pavilion for a show and decided to use this restaurant as a pre performance meal. We have been to Exmouth many times before but this was our first meal here. Although it was very busy with no inside tables we were lucky to find one outside. After placing our order our food was delivered promptly, (under fifteen minutes) the quality was good all of us had cleared plates. We had lunch here and got shouted at by the older waitress who had apparently been shouting our order number and we hadn't heard her. ( neither did anyone sitting around us) quite an embarrassing encounter which has put us off returning, especially as my jacket potato was decidedly average. Certainly not soft and fluffy! Even if she had been looking for us I don't expect to be shouted at in public.

Having walked along the seafront and back my friend and I were hungry - lots of sea air and exercise and in need of lunch! We popped into Posh at the Seaside which was so conveniently positioned on the sea front and opposite the Big Wheel. There was a varied choice on the menu of unpretentious, good quality food. It was a clean and busy place with easy access. It was popular with families and there was a board of Specials for pensioners if they wanted to choose lunch from it. The food was delicious and we only had a short wait for it. Looking around at the other diners, their choices of food looked good to eat and judging by their reactions, it was! Feeling well fortified, we continued with our walking.

We were a group of 16 foster carers who meet up monthly. Exmouth Pavillion was chosen this time, (posh nosh) it certainly was not posh! 3 of the party could not even eat there meals, and were given a refund. Fish platter : the salmon was not fresh, and had changed colour, and smelt. Boeuf Bourguignon was some bits of vegetables with plain cubes of beef on top, with little watery sauce underneath. About 3 baked potatoes were ordered, one sent back as very cold, 2 others were quickly eaten, as cold. The 1st potatoes ordered came in a few minutes. Which looked like the box of pre-frozen ones you buy, and put in microwave for few minutes. On returning items, the mature lady serving said, "wish he was here on Saturday" , referring to the mature man behind the bar, "as I had this problem on my own then". Which we took as having same problem with meals, being sent back. The service as a whole at Posh Nosh, was unprofessional, not at all friendly, slow and unwelcoming. Not all paying together, some orders were separate, so queuing up with other diners were slow. Especially if wished for hot drinks, as the person took food orders, then did hot drinks for certain individuals, before serving the next. If wished for a cold drink, you had to go to the other bar, after putting order in and wait, after ringing bar for someone to come. Even though staff were told we were at same table, all meals came out separately, so 1st served, had finished eating, before the last were served. Out of 16 meals, only 2 were OK, the normal lasagne (even though presumed it was microwaved, and fish and chips, fish cakes were not impressive, nor was the OAP lasagne which was served in a saucer size bowl with very small lip. We did not stay for any more drinks or buy desserts, due to result of bad food, and not a pleasant athosphere, and took our service nearly next door at Abbys which was wonderful from start to finish.

I've never felt compelled to write a review of any kind before, but our family visit to this establishment yesterday left me open mouthed at the hostility & rudeness of all staff encountered. The two young girls at the till showed no awareness of polite demeanour & acted as if all customers were a painful issue for them. I listened as one instructed the man in front of me to get his coke from the bar, which he did without issue and then loudly huffed & puffed to all listening staff that 'he's disappeared'. No, he was doing as he had been instructed. I was then greeted with equal contempt by another server (I use the term loosely) who snapped a question back at me about my first, off the menu order. When I returned to my seat my partner had been given short shrift by a bustling older lady who he had politely asked '...is it possible to close the door please?' We then listened as this older lady discussed loudly to other staff, as if no customers were present, how annoying customer behaviour was! (I think she may responsible for the customer service lessons the young girls have obviously been having.) Finally, after our much spoiled lunch with our two small children came to a close I discovered our ordered 'childs lunchbox' which was advertised as containing a small yoghurt had no yoghurt, but two apples in it. I approached the bar, assuming this was a mistake & asked if I could please have the yoghurt instead & was again treated to a spectacle of total disregard. Apparently they had no yogurt & as my three year old didn't fancy two apples in one sitting then I could have a small packet of their coffee accompanying biscuits!! Now I understand that things run out, but please just explain this at ordering & don't offer a non equal substitute begrudgingly. In short, I don't recommend this place. Save your money & find somewhere where your presence is appreciated & recognised as being a positive.

Not impressed with the attitude of counter staff. My friend and I were the only two at the counter - and asked for drinks - home made lemonade for me - "we only sell that in summer" (even though advertised) and tea with full milk for my friend - "we don't sell full fat milk". I was told to go to the bar for ordinary lemonade (2 steps to his left, ring the bell for service) meanwhile he had to wait for someone to come to serve me then come back to pay for the other drink while he twiddled his thumbs. Manners were not good - perhaps a course in customer service would help..

Have had a number of 'coffee breaks' recently, and two or three meals. I can recommend it. The venue is excellent - right on the promenade overlooking the sea, and with its own free car park. As part of the Pavilion complex, if there is a special event taking place it can get busy, but we have never been unable to get a table. The coffee is good. But why such stonking great cups? I prefer coffee in a 'normal cup'. The cakes are yummy - especially an amazing 'melt in the mouth' chocolate concoction. (Looks a bit like chocolate brownie - but don't be fooled. This is something very special). The food on the whole is fine. Not FANTASTIC but adequate. The staff are keen to please. On a hot day there is plenty of of outside seating overlooking the gardens. Went for breakfast this morning. I would usually and have recommended this place for their breakfast but certainly wouldn't again. I had a sausage and egg bap, the sausage wasn't cooked through and tasted off. I was told the reason it tasted off was because it had herbs in it. I have eaten breakfast there several times with the same type of sausages and they have never tasted off before. The chef and the young male employee were very rude to me particularly when I commented that the side salad which accompanied the breakfast bap was lathered in mustard dressing, I was told " if you don't like it don't eat it". For certain I won't eat there again and will apologise to anyone I have previously recommended it to.

I've had a few meals at the pavilion which have always been fine, but we haven't been for a few months - how disappointed we were on our return! My cottage pie didn't have a crispy mash topping (first CP I've ever had like that) and hardly any gravy with the mince, just fried mince swimming in grease with a blob of mash on top. Very bland. And the "seasonal" vegetables were limp and soggy; I love sprouts but there's nothing worse than microwaved frozen ones! I never usually complain as I'm too polite, but it was so bad I asked for the veg to be replaced. They did so with an apology but it was still frozen mush, just not the dregs from the bottom of the bag. Not what I expect for £8.95. And mum's chips tasted like they were reheated, though the omelette was ok, but not worth £7.95. Not pleasant at all really. With so many other options on the seafront I'm not sure we will be returning anytime soon. Such a shame as it's a great location and pleasant inside, with lovely views. At the most we'll be stopping by for just a cuppa in future.

In my opinion it's the most high end lunch stop on the seafront, they really take time and pride in their presentation and you can tell the produce is always fresh and to the highest standard. The cake selection is enough to get your mouth watering and make sure you don't leave without a cheese scone, which is 100% the best cheese scone I've had. I had to move it away from her straight away as at 23 months old she is not aware the food may be hot and it was, it was scorching hot, I had to cut open her nuggets and make her wait for them to cool, so I was not happy that these had just beenough plonked down infront of her. Our burgers arrived on a long wooden board with a nice, but extremely small ramekin of coleslaw and one of mixed salad and also a very small 'bucket' of chips. As pretty as the presentation of the meal may be, it was totally impractical. I wanted to empty my chips out to season them and would liked the have added my salad and coleslaw, but the board was just too narrow so I had to season the top few chips in the bucket and pick them out a few at a time and when trying to pluck my coleslaw and salad out of the tiny bowls I ended up losing most of it on the table. What is wrong with a normal plate?!!! Anyway... I was impressed with the first bite of the burger, but on my second bite I found that the middle of my burger was pink and cold. Not impressed I took my burger back up to the counter and brought it to the waitresses attention. She said that they tend to cook the burgers medium to well (which mine was no more than medium, plus I think you should be asked if you would be happy to eat partially cooked meat on ordering, as you would when ordering a steak.) Her offer to get it put back under the grill was fine by me as I was starving at this point, but a few minutes later a waiter came to my table to tell me the chef was cooking me a fresh burger. In the meantime, I sat and ate my chips and sides and my daughters nuggets (as she didn't want them after I paid £5.50 for them!) By the time I'd waited for my burger to be re-done I'd pretty much filled up so it was picked at by me and my husband and mostly left on the BOARD. At no point during our meal did any of the staff to a check-back to see if we were happy with the food. As we left all 3 members of staff had sat down to take a break together and totally blanked us as we walked past their table and left the restaurant. No thank you, no goodbye. Not great. Overall, decent quality food, but that is the least you expect at these prices. If going there for a burger, make sure you're happy with the way they cook it before you order or you may be disappointed.

I went to a show at the pavilion and booked a table for me and my partner before the show. The service was great and the food was amazing, the only problem I had was that I wasn't that hungry on the night so I could not finish it all. It was by far the best stake and ale pie I have had, it is defiantly the best in Exmouth believe me I have tried them all around and have not found one better. I would defiantly recommend going to eat here as there is a wide variety of food and it is all amazing.

We made a reservation and in fairness, they said they don't usually do them in the season. As we were local . . .they conceded. When we turned up they were hugely busy - a tsunami of diners. In the hectic workplace, our reservation had been overlooked. The situation was soon retrieved with an apology and a candid admission that they'd made a mistake. No hassle at all and immediate action was taken to get us a table and sat down. This took literally less than 10 minutes ( a walk outside, a run on the grass - for the youngster . . .and Job Done). The food was great - grilled fish of the day (excellent) and also battered fish of the day, thick gammon steak and the vegetarian platter. all very good and the staff (still. Under pressure . . . . .) were all smiles and helpful.Well priced and a great place for the family to dine and if you can get a window table - wonderful views.

We went for lunch on a pensioners day. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We had the steak and ale pie with chips and peas for £5, excellent value as neither of us is over 65, The place was full with only a few empty tables so I think the locals are in the know!

Just popped in to refuel after walking from home along the Esplanade. Coffee and Tea and a shared slice of their "best chocolate cake". It really is the best I have tasted. Coffee and tea complimented the cake.

On a wet and windy Easter Saturday we called in for lunch - four adults and two year old twins boys.....A great selection of choices in the menu for all the family. Well cooked, well presented and good sized portions (the children's Chicken Goujons were nicely presented and a good side portion - too much for two year olds, but great for older children), vegetarian platter was huge a nice variety and very tasty . . .the other choices were equally great. The staff - all of them were all helpful and friendly - can't be faulted. All this . . .for a really competitive price. Fabulous. We'll be back next month when more family visit.A really nice lunchtime for lol of us.

First time I've been in here. Very nice indeed. I can see why it was busy. I was only in here for a meeting and green tea but next time I shall certainly be having some lunch. Waitresses were kept very busy taking beautiful looking sandwiches and other dishes to tables inside and out on wooden chopping boards. Looked amazing. Very fresh looking ingredients. Nice clean place over looking the sea.

I am really fussy about breakfast, that's why I didn't eat it in the hotel we were staying because it was a dump! The full English here was just perfect I really couldn't fault any of it! We sat outside with our dog, sun shining, food piping hot and kept us full all day! We went back the next day also as wasn't sure if any of the other places would be able to match it!!!!! It is a little pricey but well worth it! Oh great granary bread and my dog loved the black pudding!!! Thanks x

Ate here before seeing the Royal Marine Band concert recently. Even though we were slightly late for time and the staff were no longer taking food orders, we were happily provided with desserts. Both courses were very good.

Posh it is not. It is a self service cafe. I had to go up and order my food and coffee then go and order my soft drinks at the bar and then go and get our own cutlery and condiments. Table service might have got you another star. I had a crab salad, this in reality was a pile of crab (with a large piece of shell) a teeny pot of coleslaw, some balsamic smothered leaves and 2 OTT wedges of granary bread... Not much of a salad to be honest. Would go back and try something else.... If I had to.

My friend and I were going to see a show at the Pavilion theatre and had decided to try the restaurant there for a meal beforehand. I was most impressed by the very pleasant attitude of all the staff, and enjoyed an excellent meal at a very nice window table with a view out onto the gardens and the promenade. The fish pie was very good as was the chocolate cake dessert. I will definitely dine there again, though realised from the speed at which it filled that pre-booking is essential.

A friend and I were booked to see an evening show at the Pavilion and we decided to have a meal in the on site restaurant. Luckily we booked as it quickly became full. Both my friend and I chose the fish pie which was really tasty and enough to feed two people. To follow we shared a large slice of chocolate cake with cream. We saw different meals on other tables and I think they all looked good. I would definitely eat there again and would recommend it to others.

We only went in here for a coffee but were impressed with the cleanliness of the place and also the welcome offered by the staff. We did not have food on this occasion, but have on numerous previous occasions and always found it to be good value. You can also use the Pavillion car park opposite for the duration of your stay. Just register your car details as you enter. During the warmer weather there is also a large outside sitting area overlooking the gardens at the side and towards the beach from the front.

Stopped in for lunch on a recent trip to Exmouth and enjoyed my lunch. I had a fish finger sandwich and it was really big and came with crisps and a side salad. The café is across the street from the beach and was quite roomy inside. There is also a bar if you just want a drink. You order at the counter and they bring your order. Prices were reasonable. I would pop in again if I was ever down in the area.
