The King Rufus in New Forest

Walked across the toll bridge on a beautiful sunny Sunday arvo. Enjoyed beer in the sun. What a lovely pub, coming back to try the toasties on Friday.

Lovely old pub. Nice selection of beers on tap plus bottles. Decent selection of spirits and wines. Food is great on the Friday nights. I've not been in on a Sunday. I'd love to be able to come on a Saturday but I think the "leave them wanting more" mentality is at play here. Thanks for keeping this place open. It's lovely to be able to walk from Marchwood to a nice pub.

We came to the Sunday night music sessions at The King Rufus. It's the first time we have visited and we had a BRILLIANT night!! Wonderful music from Kalo Murray ( his first ever gig and he was fantastic. Acoustic laid back vibes. Check him out !!!) Such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A little hidden gem! We will be back very soon.

Visited for the first time in many years and was really surprised by how friendly the owners are. It is rare to get such a friendly greeting when entering pubs in my experience. The local customers were also very friendly and chatty. Shame there is no local decent craft beer so opted for a cider. Will definitely return when they are open on weekends!

We love The King Rufus. The toasted sandwiches are gorgeous and the ploughman's tasty and filling. Good selection of drinks, alcoholic and mixers. Nice coffee too! Mike and Cat are always welcoming. A warm and friendly pub. Live music on the last Sunday of every month.

An unusual, unique and cosy pub. We visited on a Sunday and had the delicious Ploughmans while local act Daughters of Davis were playing. Drinks selection here is very good as were the prices....it was a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and we had a lovely time. A hidden gem. Parking is limited but there is a free public car park just a short walk north.

We went to a private function, couldnt fault the staff all very friendly and a lovely place to hire on a Saturday night to have a get together, I think the maximum number of guests is 50. The pub is a small traditional style pub and has a lovely welcoming feel to it.

Absolutely love this little pub, not many like this left! Friendly staff with a really welcoming atmosphere. We usually enjoy a few drinks and a toastie on Fri evenings but on Sunday we decided to pop in for a ploughman's salad and I have to say, it was the best we've had. Great choice of items with lovely fresh ingredients. Can't wait to have another one :)

This is a true gem of a place - a warm, friendly, personalised welcome awaited us when we visited yesterday (Mother's Day). Everything about the King Rufus ticked all my boxes: the care for customers, the delicious toasties and warm brownies, tasty coffee made with care, a full selection of drinks behind the bar, board games to play and beautiful surroundings. The chilled music that played meant that we spent 2 hours relaxing and enjoying our visit. Mike and Cat the owners were so lovely, and as a dog-friendly place, we were able to bring our furry girl with us. She enjoyed a cooked sausage which was no trouble to ask for :) It was one of the loveliest Mother's Day afternoons I've had. Thank you Mike and Cat.

This is the most fantastic gem of a pub only open Fridays and Sundays but the well worth a visit

Nice to see a village pub open, landlady was very nice to talk to and always busy cleaning if not serving,atmosphere very good and well decorated, I would advise going there and giving them your support, we will be going back to try the ploughman's on a Sunday as I have heard that they are excellent quality .I call in every few weeks and still find it relaxing and have tried the ploughman's which was excellent, still can't praise this place enough, please try it .

Got the last two ploughman's, but worth the wait

New owners - seemed really friendly - first visit 20th May 2022 - redecorated - lots of bottled beers - hopefully will bring back the Friday Pizza 🤞

I use this pub as my local. The service is always second to none. The landlord and landlady are always happy to see you. Probably one of the best pubs in the totton and eling area

Pleasant walk from Totton to this pub. Light airy pub with plenty of art. Two beers. Both in good order.

Nice pub. Good food. Nice atmosphere. Lovely area to walk around. Live music most Saturday nights mostly Jazz but really relaxing and have a dance if the moment takes you :-)

Quiet pub, small range of beers, lots of gin, good pizza's, only open 3-4 days a week, the owners are musicians and artists and the vibe is along those lines

What a charming and welcoming place! It's got a relaxing and homely atmosphere with pastel painted wood and a country house type garden. Loved it and will definitely be back.

A beautifully decorated character pub with attractive secluded gardens. The walls are adorned with the owner artists colourful paintings. One of the main specialities on the menu are its own freshly made stone baked pizzas. A lovely way to spend a romantic evening with the special person in your life!!

Impromptu stop at this delightful pub during a walk in the area. Good selection of beers. Quick game of ping pong in the relaxing garden. Owners were very friendly. Sadly couldn't stay for the band but will return.

Nice pub, feels very homely with a comfortable garden to the rear with a table tennis table set up if you fancy it. Didn't stay for food but plan to try their kiln cooked pizzas at a later date. Live music nights were advertised aswell.

Under new ownership, a warm welcome awaits you from the friendly proprietors. Excellent jazz on Saturday evenings for an easy laid back atmosphere. No food is available but good range of wines, draught & bottled beers & cider. Currently open Thursday - Sunday. Recommended.

The King Rufus is now under new ownership by Ray and Philly who intend to open around Easter 2016. Review is anticipatory!

We were looking forward to the home cooked food! We were told, on asking, that only 2 things were available, a cheese and tomato sandwich and a cheese ploughmans. Upon delivery our ploughmans was a very sorry excuse for one and at £8.95 extortionately over priced. Not impressed.
