The Potting Shed in Hyde… well. Where to begin. This was our third time eating here and as per the first two occasions the food was exquisite! Some context… We live in Essex and have had a couple of trips to the New Forest for weekends away, on these trips we have traveled to The Potting Shed for breakfast on one of the days and the food and atmosphere has always been perfect. There is some magic in the herby mushrooms we are sure of it! Our latest visit to the New Forest was not a weekend away, it was a one day trip centred around having breakfast at The Potting Shed… that is correct folks… we drove 2 hours and 38 minutes to go and have breakfast at The Potting Shed and it was, as always, sublime! Did I mention the mushrooms? Eat here and you will not be disappointed. We heartily recommend The Potting Shed and driving over 2 hours to eat here testifies to that. We will be back!

Visiting our old hometown, we couldn’t resist returning to our favorite café—now under the new ownership of Terry and Mark. Breakfast was just as fantastic as we remembered, so we came back for lunch during our stay. I had the chicken burger, my wife enjoyed the soufflé, and the kids loved their jacket potatoes. Everything was delicious! A great bonus—this café now serves beer and wine, making it even better. Highly recommend!

Immediate impression as you walk in is that of a well-kept, clean, attractive, and organised environment. Three distinct areas, main building, 'poly tunnel' and garden, so plenty of seating and space, especially in the warmer months. The food (we had breakfast) was tasty, cooked well and plated in an attractive manner. Minor note, the toast had lost its crispiness due to the fried eggs on top. Beans were in their own pot, which is always a bonus for me. Pot of tea for two provided a generous four cups. It was an enjoyable experience, and we would happily make it a regular visit, but we live two counties away!

Lovely little farm shop and restaurant here. The staff were super friendly. Unfortunately we didn't book in advance, so we had to sit outside in the under cover area. It wasn't too cold, but lacked atmosphere out there. Both had the Cheesy One sandwich, very nice and the chilli chutney helped to cut through the cheese. Wasn't a fan of the coronation coleslaw and divisive having a mustard dressing over the salad (luckily I don't mind mustard). Would recommend visiting, but book!

There were a selection of tables both inside and out, and the menu offered a variety of foods and drinks, I wasn't expecting a place like this to offer a such a fantastic burger and chips, but they certainly did! Can honestly say that it's one of the best I've had in a long time. My wife had a salad, which was also delicious and filling. We sat for some time enjoying the atmosphere and reading our books, whilst helping ourselves to more tea and coffee. This is a lovely place to stop for food and drinks, and we would highly recommend!

We went there for breakfast. There was 5 adults and 2 young children. I thought the food was average and very expensive . It came to over £101 for 4 simple mimi breakfasts, 1 yoghurt and fruit and toast. The children had pancakes. It was much too expensive in my view. The service and staff were good however we had to sit outside under a polytunnel in the poring rain and I have to say, it was not comfortable. The seating is hard and old and the tables don't look very clean. I'll be honest, the food was nothing special and I'm not sure I'd be happy to recommend it.

I arrived at The Potting Shed Cafe at 9am on a Sunday morning just as they were opening up. I was extremely surprised to see that all the inside tables had already been reserved but fortunately, the kind hostess was able to find me a seat and table. Apparently, it's really advisable to book a table at the weekends as this place can be very popular. I ordered the full English breakfast with a latee and two extra sausages to take away (the dogs). The service I received was very friendly with a minimal wait for my food to arrive. I have to say that this was one of the loveliest cooked breakfasts that I've had in a very long time and it's the reason why I feel that a good review has to be posted. The fried eggs were fresh, and the sausages were extremely good quality and not your everyday cafe bread tubes. I would thoroughly recommend this cafe without any hesitation and I'll be returning soon. Well done!

We had the Thai Prawn curry and Beef Rogan Josh and both were not good. The former was a glutinous cornflower paste base and insipid. The latter was a watery beef stew with added red chillies. Sadly we had already paid a deposit. We explained our view to the co-owner who seemed surprised By constructive feedback. Fortunately we did not pay the balance of the bill. A shame as we need good local eateries

This is a little gem of a place. In the New Forest in a relatively small village. It's rustic and apparently in the summer there are outside seating and eating areas. However this was my Mother's day present from my son so we were sat inside. It was a lovely varied breakfast menu with some really nice variations. The staff were all lovely and friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious with a lot of local produce. Families were enjoying themselves and it's dog friendly too. The toilets were lovely and clean and there is ample parking. On site there is some plants and a country store. Not only that but there is a very nice farm shop there too. This was a last minute decision on a cold and wet November Sunday. The inside space was full so we braved it out in the poly tent with a few blankets from the car! It was cold but it was dry inside and there was a charm to the place which meant that we felt warm. It was also very kind of the staff to bring us free hot chocolates all round! We actually noticed that inside was noisy, hot and a bit smoky from the cooking, so we were perfectly happy in the tent. We all really enjoyed our food and between us we had tiger prawns, cow burger, rarebit and pie of the day. The chips/fries were a highlight, but it was all good and reasonably priced. Wherever I go I check out the cappuccino. This was good. I like the coffee strong and could take it stronger than was served here, but nonetheless, this was a good coffee. If I had any suggestions for the team it would be to fully enclose the polytent, put some throws/blankets out there and make full use of it!

Second visit, this time for breakfast which was as good a breakfast as I've ever had. I'm not sure what my expectations were, but what arrived was incredible value for money. I'd describe it as really "clean" and well presented. Two eggs, sourdough, local sausage (amazing) two bacon rashers, black pudding, beans, hash brown and incredible mushrooms that stole the show. All for under £12!!! That's a £25 breakfast in most London hotels - I was genuinely surprised at how cheap this was. Great staff, great venue and lots of smiling faces - even on the many dogs that also like to visit. Well done guys you've got a little gem in the Forest.

The establishment maximises its space with a well-curated shop, a welcoming bar, intimate upstairs nooks, and a charming terrace. As a table of 7, we felt neglected. It was like there was too many of us and no one wanted to look after us. It took a while for someone to even take our drinks order. It was also a long wait for our food too. No one checked back to see if the food was okay. We kept having to get waiters attention to order more drinks etc. The food was excellent, really yummy and it was lovely to have choice in one place. Waiters were lovely, just a long wait for food which was a bit annoying.

Popped in here on a recommendation from a friend who stayed here. Didn’t have nothing to eat but Everyone was happy and the staff were really helpful and courteous. Around at the back is where you can purchase the Cider, which is recommended. Reasonable prices considering its home grown produce. Plenty of parking. Came here again in December 2024 the cafe is now closed but the pantry around the back is still open.
