Played dartys in this really friendly little pub in Ryde. Everyone was really friendly, you can tell the management know how to run a pub and they are very popular. We will be back for drinks and darts again real soon.

quite a small pub, but went here over the scooter ralley last year as they offered cheap takeaway pints! brilliant.

Used this pub before getting the bus to the festival, bus stop is over the road. It’s got loads of tv’s for watching sport and outdoors seating for people watching going to the festival. Good range of beers in bottles and on draught. We were told it’s the cheapest pub on the island. We are from London so everywhere is cheaper!!! Opens at 10am weekdays and Saturdays and 11am Sundays. There was service with a smile as well!!!

Great pub, beers were very good value. Music and atmosphere was great and there is a dartboard. Well worth the visit.

Just called in with my partner and myself visited Ryde for a few hours we only had a drink but the lady behind the bar was really friendly and made you feel very welcome also it had a couple off large tv screen showing sports

Fiancé loves this pub. Unfortunately it is horribly hot inside. Sweating the second you enter. Forces you to buy a cold drink. Dangerous for anyone with health conditions it's that hot. I hate it here

My partner and I are visiting the area and popped in for a quick drink on our way to our accommodation. Very friendly staff and patrons who gave advice where to go locally - Shanklin which came recommended is beautiful and accessible by bus or the train. We again visited the same evening to watch the football where again we were greeted with a friendly atmosphere. Very good value and would highly recommend

By far the cheapest pints I’ve seen in my life. The music is good and not very loud.

Busiest pub on the Esplanade because it's the cheapest. That said, the drinks were good and on the Saturday evening we visited we saw no bad behaviour and enjoyed our visit.

Come from Huddersfield will be back it's very good and good beer and hospitality.

Absolutely a quality place for a cold one with the boys. Friendly lads behind the bar. On the whole, pretty bog-standard. Very relaxed atmosphere, standard menu and array of beers. Nothing amazing and nothing poor. Not a bad place to visit if you’re there.

Nice place to have a drink but last night I watched an Irish lad get up with his partner and sing a song on karaoke and it went deafly silent but thr next singer was awful and got a cheer, bigotry exists in this pub unfortunately and it seems that the everyone there has not moved on, I didn't cheer as I feared that I was going to be beaten up

Small local, fairly priced with plenty of choice. The barman was very nice he paid attention to cleanliness and kept us with drinks. Is dart board and two good sized TV's and for size good amount of seats, that said arises my issue - to no fault of anyone was a little on the long bit thin size and if busy wouldn't take many to fill this pub up.

Well, here I am again, on the Isle of Wight, and enjoying another visit, to The King Lud. Usual great pint, from Caroline, and still incredibly cheap. As I said, in a previous review, this is a no frills, old school Boozer. What I should have included, was a comment about the great atmosphere, provided by locals, and visitors alike. This is a great friendly Pub, with perfect pints as well. As I said back in July, "Long May The King Lud Reign!". Thanks all!

Good friendly sports bar on the Esplanade, reasonably priced beer.

Well.. I first started goin there about 13 years ago.. They used to have a lot of live music there and apparently it had an old covenant on th place which meant it could stay open til 4 am... Consequently , on a weekend every one would head there for a nice quiet , family style , wear what you like sort of place , let's have a good old knees up with a bit of after hours drinking , entertainment complex... Then th management would sometimes let my band play there and of course I loved that.. Aswell as that , they weren't too adverse to me letting off the odd pyrotechnic explosion... Then th place shut down and it looked like all those fun times had gone but No... Along came Ben and Michaela and the good times are back again with all the sports , quizzes , blindfolded ballroom dancing and singing by numbers , bear baiting and squirrel wrestling ..... All them good old fashioned , Early Tudor , Pub games....

Now I don't make a habit of going into a pub before midday but we had just got off the hovercraft on a jolly to the Isle of Wight and we decided to have a quick pint before we explored Ryde. I was surprised how many people were there but it was soulless and I felt the life being drained from me.

A great place if you just love to watch the footie as ists got three big TVs.....and all's packed out so try get in there early if you want a place

Lovely busy seafront pub. Dog friendly. Very pleasant helpful staff with local knowledge of transport or restaurants. The management are amazing and go above and beyond for their customers very funny kind and empathic they have raised thousands for charity and helped out all who needed help during lockdown with shopping hospital apps and so on. I cannot praise them enough. The pub itself is clean and very cheap for drinks they have sports on the 5 tvs. Play quizzes bingo karaoke and meet raffles The locals call it family.

What a lovely pub, lovely atmosphere, great karaoke night on the Friday, interspersed with Northern Soul. Would heartily recommend.

Good old traditional friendly pub

Sadly the Ryde Esplanade is not blessed with smart drinking establishments and for some inexplicable reason the advanced party we sent over the road to find a beer whilst the rest of us sorted out hovercraft tickets chose this one, probably the least smart of the lot. A single room pub with some limited table seating on the pavement out front its a fairly basic and boisterous sports bar type of establishment. Serving bar on the left and large flatscreen telly’s dotted about for the sport, I got the impression that most of the clientele had been in all day for looking at the screens on this early Saturday evening. Two real ales on from major Brewers, both boring brown bitters including a poor Gales HSB, especially as I had to drink it out of a plastic glass as we had chosen to try and avoid some of the characters and drink on the pavement. A plan that sadly misfired as most of them were in and out like a Jack-in-the-Box to share their fag smoke with us. Let’s just say I couldn’t wait to get back on the hovercraft over to Southsea and its pubs.

This adults only pub over looks Ryde pier and the beautiful vista of the Solent. Has regular kareoke evening's on Friday night. Sports shown on wide screen TV's. Pleasant staff.

My wife and I stayed in Ryde for a week. Found this pub on the first day and ended up going here every night after our evening meal. We call it a traditional no nonsense pub. Plenty of beers to select from and very cheap probably the cheapest on the Island. Made to feel welcome by the locals and the staff extremely friendly. We took our dog who had a lot of fuss made of her. Great pub and definitely will return.

Humble, lively and loads of events and offers in place. A little small but cannot massively fault it as it makes up for it's inviting atmosphere. Looking forward to the Ocktoberfest deals!

The King Lud is one of the best pubs we have been to. it’s a very friendly local pub where we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and customers, it was very clean and comfortable, the loos were spotless. The King Lud is what my husband and myself call a proper pub, it’s a drinking pub yay with great prices, it’s great to go in a bar and not get asked do you want a menu. Would definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone who just wants a decent drink at great prices and to top it off it’s right opposite the seafront. Thank you all for for helping to make our holiday a great one

Great place. Always the first pub I pop into when visiting the island

I visited here a while back having visited it on previous occasions, they once served food at lunchtime which was excellent quality and reasonably priced. They also used to have a 2am licence with live music. Fast forward to 2021 and although the pub has had a much needed refurbishment, it has also changed management, and when I visited on a Sunday evening @ 9.40 I was told by the land lady that she had already called time ! Time @ 9.30 ? Seriously ? Not really much to go in there for now, that said drinks are on the cheap side compared to some other town establushments.
