Was really looking forward to this pub after reading the reviews but sadly the food was extremely disappointing. Burger was burnt on the outside but raw in the middle, lettuce was wilted and pastry on dessert was raw. When I complained about the raw pastry, I was told it was vegan as an explanation….as though vegans shouldn’t enjoy their meals! Won’t be returning. To top it off, there was a distinct smell of cannabis in the garden - so I had the munchies but the food was terrible. Would not recommend!

Such a warm welcome from Kat and baby Etta. Love the interior with the mismatching furniture and fairy lights. Very eclectic style which works well. The food was good value as it fish Friday - 2 for 1 which was delicious. The hot cross bread and butter pudding was divine. We’d tried to go last Friday and it was fully booked so we’re glad to get in this week. The menu was a good selection of tasty temptations and I could have eating literally everything on it so I’ll be going back soon to try something else I would have given a 5 star rating but both the restaurant and bar did feel a bit cold. There was a fire in the restaurant but it could have done with a bit more wood on it. I think it was possibly because the temperature had dropped because I’d been in the previous week for a drink and it had felt cosy. The food wasn’t cold and though and was cooked to perfection. Good, home cooked, comfort food. With a lovely warm welcome from Kat and her team. Looking forward to my next visit to try something else from the menu

Went here for a Sunday lunch with six members of my family for a hoped for lovely Sunday roast dinner together. What we got was anything but. Five of us had roast beef, one had pulled chicken and my 92 year old mother chose the roast pork. What we got served was a small pile of food in the middle of our plates, so we expected separate dishes with the vegetables to arrive next until one of us delved a bit deeper and found underneath the small pile on the plate just half a carrot, a small parsnip that had been burnt on one side, a tiny pile of cabbage which did not smell very nice, and three tiny roast potatoes. And as for the Yorkshire pudding, it was straight out of the Aunt Bessie’s freezer bag you pick up from a supermarket, a small round crispy pile of nothingness. We asked for more gravy and the smallest gravy boat I have seen in my life was put in front of us, only enough for one plate in reality, absolutely ludicrous. The pulled chicken looked like it had just been mashed up, the two small slices of beef were a bit chewy, and my mothers pork was just pathetic. We hoped the desserts would be better but sadly not. My mother asked what was in the Eton Mess and was told meringue with loads of berries, cream, and ice cream. What actually came up in a bowl was one small meringue nest that you can pick up in a supermarket for a matter of pence, about three berries and a tiny measly dollop of cream on the side. Totally disgusting. The rest of our desserts were of a similar low standard and with a bill total of £174 we were all feeling very let down. The waitress service though was good but she must have been embarrassed to see what she was having to serve up. I believe this place is trying to make out they are a boutique restaurant so think small is better but that’s not so bad if the food is delicious, but The Kentford? Do yourself a favour and give it a miss, I knew we should have gone elsewhere for a carvery but we wanted somewhere a bit special and thought this fitted the bill. How wrong were we!

Came for dinner with a friend who had visited before. We we warmly greeted and purchased a drink in the lovely bar area before being shown to the restaurant. I hadn't been for many years and wow has it changed! Lovely little fairy lights and beautiful furniture. Also tables spaced well apart rather than feeling like you are eating with the person next to you! We came on steak night whereby they have w fabulous deal of steak or a burger for £10! The rest of the menu had a variety so something to suit everyone. The service was great and our food fantastic. Will definitely be back!!

We did go to The Kentford for a Sunday lunch. The focus of the lunch is quite clearly the roast, which is very large and looks great. There is a small selection of starters, desserts and other mains. Quality is very good, the service is excellent and the atmosphere cosy. The only improvement would probably be a slightly larger selection on the menu.

Initially me and 2 of my mates turned up at this pub and everything was as you would expect. My other mate was outside on the phone and was speaking to his ex who he recently broke up and was understandably emotional. Upon joining our table he asked for a shot which wasn’t extremely especially at 6:45 in the afternoon and he got response to all of us of “better drink up and leave” whilst all of us were perfectly fine and even he was fine. We wasn’t causing any problem and they made us feel so unwelcome without being any problem at all and trust me I would admit if we wasn’t an issue. The person who told us to leave and said was a “family pub” was the only person with a child literally in her hands with no other children around the place at the time. We had no option but to have one drink and leave. Will never return even with my fiancée or family for meal when fully reopen!

I walked in as they advertise outside on a big board that they have plant based options on their menu and I’m vegan. I asked for the vegan menu and the guy said it’s on the main menu. There was one option which was a mushroom katsu curry...so I ordered. I waited 30 minutes to be seated ( by this time my 4 year old was getting irate ) then another 30 minutes for our food. When it did turn up I cut open the food to discover that it was chicken! I called over the waiter who said ‘ oh yes you ordered the vegan option’ and disappeared with the food. He then came back out to tell e that they had run out of the curry but the chef could whip me up a quick mushroom pasta. Not having any other option I said ok.Not a single apology, not a discount on my bill! Nothing!I would suggest that a restaurant that is going to advertise this outside on their notice board start by actually offering a better range on their menu....such a disappointing experience.

Oooops 'wanceywoo' Bet you feel pretty silly for not booking for mothers day, makes sense to blame someone else for your silly mistake. So, a realistic review of Mothers Day at the Kentford: Our table of 12 had a lovely meal with a very large selection of dishes on the set menu with a choice of 2 or 3 course.Everyones food was perfect, no issues at all. No multiple sittings so no rush on our table to start our meal or move on once we'd finished. We ended up being there for 3 and a half hours. They even had table games for the children and brought out a badminton set for the kids to play in the garden! All of the waiting staff were Mums and when chatting to them they all agreed to give up time on their Mothers Day to ensure the customers had a lovely time. Everyone on our table felt grateful especially with such a great service.I imagine Trip Advisor monitor such poor posts and will be removing the nonsense posted previously.

Before going to the Kentford, I read some of the TripAdvisor reviews and my heart sank. There were lots of bad reviews. When we arrived we went into the bar to meet our friends. The bar was pleasant and the beer was well kept. Heading into the restaurant we loved the surroundings. Lots of lovely carved beams and big fireplace. We were in a large group and luckily our hostess had done a spreadsheet with our preferred dishes so it made life easy for the waitresses. The starters looked nice although we'd opted to miss a starter and have pudding instead. I had roast beef which was lovely. A decent sized portion of veggies too. Pudding was also good. We opted for the chocolate fudge cake, if you're going to blow the diet you may as well do it in style! It was light and not sickly and a good chocolate flavour. The rest of the puddings looked good too. There was a bit of delay for coffees but we hadn't pre ordered those. The staff were efficient and friendly. We left just before closing time but we weren't made to feel we were being rushed out of the door. We would happily go back.

First off they had no bangers and mash from the kids menu so my niece had to pick another option. Then when we asked for butter to go with the bread they had none, a pub with NO butter, absolutely ludicrous. When the roasts came out there was no apple sauce to go with pork, the beef was almost inedible and we were not the only table complaining about it! Then when it came to dessert there were 5 options of which 2 had already sold out. We were a table of 8 booked in for my dads 65th birthday and i would say there were maybe 4 other tables of 2, if that, so why they had no food is beyond me. If they cant offer a full menu to guests who have been booked in for more than 2 months then they shouldnt be serving food full stop. Maybe the lack of customers says it all. We did make comment to the staff who apologised and if i was them i would have been embarrassed to be serving the poor quality food and extremely limited offerings. We were offered no good will gesture and considering it was for my dads 65th birthday it was overall very disappointing, would not recommend.

Went with a group of friends for dinner. We all had different things, Two people opted for the scampi and when this arrived they had been served chicken nuggets ! These were obviously sent back and they then had to wait ages for their chips as well. I ordered the steak, when it came out it was practically raw so I returned it, it was brought back out and still looked very undercooked so I had to return it again. When the waitress brought it back the second time she very abruptly and rudely informed me that this was now medium rare and it had been medium rare the second time I had sent it back too ! A completely unneccessary comment, the first rule of working in such an industry is that the customer is always right and even if you do disagree totally with them you just bite your tongue. The restaurant was very quiet, just our group and another couple so there really was no excuse to make such a mess of things. By the time we went to pay our bill there were quite a list of complaints which we tried to put across, but the attitude of the waitress (who in fact turned out to be a joint partner in the place) was again very poor. She then went round the back and told her partner who came out fairly aggressively and then informed us that his girlfriend's day job is working with disabled children ! This had absolutely no relevance to anything, was a completely stupid and pointless comment and only antagonised the situation further. We ended up not having to pay for any of our food, but thats not the point. A pleasant evening with friends ended up with an argument and bad feeling which completely spoilt it. I would question whether the people running this place are in the right occupation. Several things need to be learnt such as identifying the right food to serve to people and learning to cook the food properly they are serving people. The situation did not have to escalate as it did due to their handling of it. They really need to learn to be not so rude, a lot less arrogant and not to be so confrontational with their customers when problems arise.

Went there with a group of friends, total disaster, there was not a lot left on the menu that some were wanting, agreed it was a steak night but not everyone wants steak. One steak had to be sent back twice , it was supposed to be medium rare, but it was uncooked in the middle, the other one was passable. Two had scampi but when it arrived they were chicken nuggets (which weren’t even on the menu) so for a vegetarian this was bad. The service was pretty poor, had to ask for steak knives as ordinary knives wouldn’t even make a mark, and no mustard offered. When the waitress was told about the steak she came back quite rude, which in the hospitality sector is not acceptable. When paying the bill because of the list of complaints (I admit I was very cross with the waitress due to her attitude, which I apologised for) the owner/chef came out full of arrogance looking for conflict. I certainly would not recommend this place. It was an awful experience and without doubt the worst meal I have had.

On to mains; I had steak and my partner had sausage and mash. The steak was stone cold and although I asked for blue cheese I was given peppercorn sauce, my partner’s mash was very lumpy & you could tell it had been microwaved, it tasted like it had been mashed with a tea spoon! The sausages were cold and the skins of the sausages were like rubber! Very difficult to cut through!! We were so hungry from our drive we decided to eat what we could and let the waitress know afterwards... we complained to the waitress who apologised and said she would give us 10% off the bill however when we checked the receipt that she gave us, she had only taken off the discretionary service charge!!!!

Ok so we had a meal here last night 3 adults a child and a baby. We ordered had a drink and service was ok. When the food came it was a sad disappointment. They tried but it looked and tasted amateur. The seafood linguine was tasteless and and watery. My son's pizza and fries were tiny and COLD! another of the adults meal was also tepid! It's was embbarresing for us to have to tell them the food had been served cold. They only said 'oh sorry about that'. After we had complained ( to which they did nothing about) I asked the landlady if my son could have a wafer in each of his ice cream scoops. Guess what? It didn't come with three wafers. We asked the waitress why it didn't have three wafers and very sadly replied no sorry we can't do that!! Couldn't believe the bad attitude and reluctance to make out dismal meal a bit better by giving a child what they wanted!! The worst meal and price of paid for such a meal in a long long time. This cost 76 quid all in all. Absolutely not worth going. Don't bother.

We have been going to the Kentford at least every two weeks for many months and have always enjoyed the food and service. Today we booked a Sunday lunch for the first time as guests of some friends. We made the booking and were told that there was a large party booked on the 'big table', so we asked for table 1 as this would be quieter and away from the large party. Things didn't start well as table 1 had been given to a family with small (and noisy) children, so we accepted a different table and the complimentary bottle of wine to compensate. Our booking was for 1.00pm and our starters arrived about an hour later. When we ordered, three of our party requested roast beef as rare as possible, the other order was for roast chicken. Service was slow but we appreciated the restaurant was busy, and this in itself would not have been a problem. However, when the beef arrived it was well done, tough and sliced thickly. The plates were cold so the food was also rapidly cooling. Our host sent back her meal and asked for a warm plate and while we were waiting for that to be rectified every else's meal was getting colder. For some bizarre reason she was given chicken as well as beef because the beef was well done. Sadly most of our meals were returned with much of it untouched - I only enjoyed the Yorkshire pudding as the meat and vegetables were very overdone. We paid the bill and before we left gave our comments and expressed our disappointment to the person who appeared to be in charge. Her attitude was not customer friendly and she told me that everyone else had been happy with the food, implying that it must be us. She knows we are regular customers and said that because of that she thought we would be more tolerant. I cannot express our extreme disappointment at our experience today - we had persuaded our friends to go to the Kentford against their better judgement and feel very embarrassed. Most restaurants look after their regular clients.........

We booked last minute for a midweek dinner using our Gourmet Card. The restaurant is cosy and comfortable and the service was relaxed and friendly! The Gourmet Card meant we had 25% off our total bill which made it very reasonable. I did however find the main courses very limited with 3 burgers on the already small menu!

We had an unplanned visit for Sunday dinner, 4 adults and two children. We were easily seated in the garden. It's quite expensive for what it is really however all was very satisfactory. My only niggles about the food was the Yorkshire pudding was dense and hard, too much flour! And that the children's Sunday dinner was too big and squished into a bowl. Perhaps a smaller version for preschoolers. My children ended up leaving more than half. Toilets were clean and staff were friendly and helpful.

Well it was not impressive as far as the food was concerned. We went with a Groupon voucher and having read reviews that it had not been good for others we decided to give it a try anyhow. When we arrived the setting and internal decoration was very nice so we thought maybe if that was good then the meal may be too. The service was good, the waitresses were very efficient indeed. The food was not to our pleasing at all. We were having the fish and chip offer which was on Groupon. We received our fish and chips and the chips were ranging on each plate from dark brown and soft to crispy and others were slightly dryer, the fish was ok but the batter was pretty well done.If you want peas with the Groupon voucher you have to pay for those at the Pub at 2.00 per person. We felt the chips were much too greasy and the fish batter wasn't great, in fact we left with a greasy palette. Disappointed to say the least.

Partner and I visited based on a recommendation! Safe to say we won't return!Booked the table and all contact details were available. Not once did I recieve any notification of the card machines being down. A little frustrating to find this out on arrival but we brushed this aside hoping for an enjoyable evening. So we ordered drinks... out of Prosecco! Out of some flavours to accompany the Gin menu! Not a great start for a Wednesday where we were the only people in the restaurant! I asked for 'Peppercorn Sauce' with my Steak, it looked and tasted like melted Butter! My other halfs 'Hunters Chicken' was bland!Overall disappointing, won't be returning. Management really need to address such simple competencies! Customer service is key!

The prices were good for the quality of food. Including drinks with three adults having 2 courses, a child with 3 courses and an adult main meal the cost was £109.

we wanted to try this place out for a while now so we decided to have lunch, restaurant was near empty (not a good sign), Customer service was very good, Food sadly was average, nothing wonderful I am sad to say! such a shame since the inside of the pub was very well decorated and suitable for serving food. There was no atmosphere whatsoever, the other couple that had just got their lunch were moaning like crazy about their fish and chips, we were getting worried about our lunch by that time since my husband ordered the fish and chips and thrice cooked chippies etc. anyway the couple left half eating their food, we go ours, my lunch was very well presented, but like I said just was average in taste and what it was, a restaurant would find it very hard to screw up on a ciabatta and chips so it was okay and I couldn't complain, my husband's fish and chips wasn't as wonderful as we had thought, I do not know what they are doing with the thrice cooked chips, they looked awful and nothing about them spelled wonderful. I have heard of double dipping chips and have done this myself theres a process to and sadly it wasn't done right. The battered fish was "just okay" the prices were quite high and we have had better elsewhere not far from this pub that was slightly cheaper and better! that is not to say we didn't mind paying just that we didn't get what we paid for! its really sad I was so looking forward to having a nice lunch, I guess I have been to places that are far better and have gotten used to being spoiled with quality. Service was good however!

Food was good, but the customer service lets them down , in our party there were two pints of Fosters ordered at £3.50, one of them went straight back and it was replaced. At the end of the meal I gave them back a pint which looked untouched but had been tried and another three quarters, I explained they were undrinkable , to be given the response that people have been drinking it all day, and they would get the pints checked. But no refund of any sort was given on them. I think it's pretty obvious that if they had been drinkable they would have been drunk!

We have been here on several occasions and had very nice meals both evening and Sunday lunch. Last night we had dinner. The menu was less extensive than we had seen so we thought maybe a change of ownership. The starters were good. Ordered garlic bread and was presented with a soggy pizza type garlic bread and not baguette type. I ordered Sirloin steak, the only steak on the menu, but was later told that they had run out. Saturday night 7:30 and run out of steak. Used to have a good selection of steaks here. So ordered Deluxe Burger which was served up on a slate roof tile, hate them. What happened to the usual plates. The burger was served on cold little gem lettuce which made the burger cold and the onion rings were like concrete. Will not be returning for a while after having had so many nice meals here in the past.

firstly i eat out quite often, and i don't like writing bad reviews of places but feel i should when i have had a bad meal, just as i leave a brilliant review when had a nice meal too... soon as we walked into the pub the place was so smokey from the open fire we could barely breath, when opened the window it was so cold. having been to this pub a couple months ago with my partner for an amazing evening meal, and also left such a good review of the place, we decided to return today for a roast dinner with parents as we'd seen such amazing comments and reviews about the roasts, and was very saddened at what we actually got served up, not only was it a fairly long wait for our mains, (restaurant not overly busy either) the Yorkshires where so hard you could barley cut them, roast potatoes warm, felt and tasted like they'd been heated back up, gravy barely warm, the meat so thick and so fatty we felt like it was just the left overs, and the bits that had meat on where chewy. however the starters you couldn't fault at all. overall a very disappointing sunday as such good reviews mainly.on a brighter note, the waitresses are very polite and friendly and where very understanding. would like to say i want to return for a normal meal as was one of the best meals we'd had before out, but will never return again. it's a shame.

Never been before and no longer live in the area so it was a bit of a gamble. Two of us had the roast pork, which was delicious, served with really lovely crispy roast potatoes, red cabbage, peas and a few green beans, plus yorkshire pudding. My daughter had the seafood linguine which she said was the best she'd ever had and her boyfriend had the burger and chips, which he also said were delicious. Desserts were faultless - sticky toffee pudding was described as 'extra special' by its recipient and the bakewell tart (ordered by the other 3) was gorgeous. Large portion of homemade beautiful tart with lovely ice cream. The place was buzzing, the fire was roaring and we will definitely return.

Went here for a family meal last night as had been recommended to my brother. The decor of this place is lovely, it's a lovely building and had a roaring open fire. The staff were friendly and helpful, wishing my brother happy birthday, recommended mocktails for us driving and brought extra toast to accompany a liver pate starter. I used a groupon voucher for fish and chips which for what I cost were ok. (£12.95) for 2 fish and chips. The fish was lovely, the trice cooked chips were quite dry however. My husband went for a lambs liver casserole from the specials board. I tried one mouthful and thought it was nice, but my husband found it so rich and overpowered with truffle he could barely eat half! My brother had a burger which came slightly rare, I would have preferred my burger this way but he couldn't finish it once he hit the middle of the patty.Overall it was a pleasant evening and for what we paid using a voice it was very reasonable. It strikes me as the sort of place where if you stick to the classics you might be safer on the menu. I did also notice the have offers on different nights so I may be tempted back another time to try a steak.

NEVER AGAIN!!! four of us had the fish which had soggy batter, 2 had steak which at £18.95 wasn't cheap. It was paper thin, no flavour, and very fatty. 2 had the burgers they were not very nice either. As for the TRIPLE COOKED CHIPS. Think they were from lunch time as they were greasy and hard. We complained and a fish and steak were taken off the bill. In my opinion we should not of paid for anything. My advise is Don't go...

I have been here many times before when under previous management, to say we were disappointed was an understatement! All had fish and chips .. The batter was not cooked through and "slimy" once you broke through and contained hardly any fish. This was relayed to the staff at the time who could visibly see that most of it was left, but staff made no comment or effort to try to rectify. Won't be going back again which is such a shame for a pub that was once so good !

A memorable stay in a hotel with a unique history, once owned by the King of England. It’s come a long way since James I walked its halls—he wouldn’t have had the pleasure of the comfortable beds and room temperature control. Nor would he have been able to savor the delicious hotel menu or enjoy the fancy cocktails. He would certainly be proud that it’s now in the hands of Manager Ruth and her team, who make your stay exceptional with their warm welcomes and constant attention to detail. Overall, it's a 10 out of 10 from me for this wonderful hotel in a beautiful and fascinating part of the country.
