From the minute you arrive your made to feel welcome by the staff who meet you at the door the bacon bap is overflowing and delicious the soup and choice of sandwiches after the first 18 holes equally as nice, nice setting overlooking one of the greens, would definitely return

We thought we would take advantage of this offer during the summer hols. I emailed to ask about the offer and received prompt replies. Two adults chose a main course each, £10.95 per meal and our three children received their main courses free. The kids chose from the children’s menu which had a good choice and the portion sizes were very good. The meals were certainly fresh and tasty. There was no quibble over the free meals when it came to payment. The service was friendly. It was very quiet when we visited so that may be why there was no atmosphere. The room is a little dreary. It overlooks the golf ⛳️ course. Nice to have visited but we probably wouldn’t go out of our way to visit again.

This is used mainly by golfers,playing at Matfen. My main feeling was that the interior is so dark and depressing - I wouldn't go again.

Warm welcome, well priced soft drinks (which makes a change) and lovely food. Large portions. I had the gammon / egg / chips and was fit for another 18 and my golf pal the scampi. We both loved the service...

I visited with my family this evening for dinner and it was absolutely fabulous. The food was exceptional quality and great value; the view is really lovely, even in the drizzle. The icing on the cake was the lovely Pam who looked after us. Such a friendly and welcoming lady, she really helped to make the evening that little bit more special. Thank you Pam and all the other staff at the keepers lodge. Will see you again soon.

I have been going to the Matfen complex for a couple of weeks since moving North and looking to get back into Golf. I have had a few great afternoons but just wanted to say a huge thank to the lady and gentlemen who looked after us and to the chef just not for the food but taking the time to chat. This was a great afternoon and thank you to you all that were present.

Nine of us had Sunday lunch and all of us agreed our meals were lovely. Some of us had the beef roast dinner, the beef was so tender and the vegetables were really tasty not overcooked. One person had the sea bass which she enjoyed and the remainder had the pork roast dinner which they thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very good very attentive The grounds are lovely and of course you can see Matfen Hall from the rear of The Keepers Lodge. Lovely afternoon had by all .

Whilst staying at matfen hall we visited the keepers lodge for evening meal and lunch. I must say we weren't disappointed the food was delicious and excellent value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definately worth a visit if in the area

Great meals available as an alternative to the main hotel just a short walk from main entrance. Great burger.

direkt neben dem Hotel als Alternative eine Überlegung wert. Sehr nettes Personal. Man kann auch aufs Zimmer schreiben. Dass sie extrem billiger wären als im Hotel ist mir nicht aufgefallen.

Went for a quick lunch before checking in to stay at the hotel. It was quiet but the guy behind the bar was really jolly, friendly and efficient. Food was good!

Lovely staff and comfy surrounding and its a little cheaper then the main Hotel bar. Only a 100 meter walk from the main hotel entrance.

I booked this quite last minute, well for Xmas lunch anyway! Was slightly worried that we would be pushed in a corner. We arrived 15 mins early and were greeted by a lovely helpful guy who we nearly gave a heart attack by giving the wrong name for the booking!! We had a lovely table, it was at the window with a nice view of the golf course! Three course meal was pre booked so the courses were really swift. Nice touch to have a personal menu with our choices on the table. The food was gorgeous, staff were very attentive and friendly! The whole experience was a joy. I will be booking again, without a doubt! My only issue was I couldn’t eat it all, nice problem to have! Thanks for a lovely day!!

Arrived here for a junior golf outing. Everyone got a basket of balls on arrival and we played 5 groups of 3 balls on par 3 course. Kids really enjoyed it and par 3 is good for kids. All kids had a meal in the keepers lodge golf pavillion after and they all seemed to enjoy it. Nice surroundings but overpriced. I ordered a beef baguette with onion gravy for £5 and it was dreadful. Unfortunately there was barely any gravy on, the gravy that had made it on was watery and it was presented with a token twig of lettuce and a handful (if that) of crisps. To charge a fiver for it was daylight robbery! Diet Coke pint was £3. Would stick to a drink only in future after playing!

We ate here one night while staying at the hotel and we found the service, price and standard of food fantastic and will eat there again if staying at the hotel. Compliments to the chef.

Good value, relaxed lovely view watching the golfers tee off. Hearty portions. Family friendly good service.

Salimos para el coche y decidimos llamar a el impresionante hall buscando matfen. Pedimos el Domingo almuerzo con carne en el club de golf en el sitio. La comida llegó muy rápido, pero nos decepcionó ya que no estaba muy caliente. La carne también era algo complicado para nuestro gusto. Estaba tranquilo, así que quizás la comida había estado parado por un tiempo y el plato en sí no había sido calentado. Probablemente probaré otro lugar otra vez

We had an evening meal at the Keepers lodge and it was very nice. The staff was excellent, very attentive and the prices were very reasonable.

Tuve la comida de Navidad el día de ayer el gerente del Lodge con mi compañero. Era 65 libras por cabeza. Fue una reserva de última hora, así que nos alegramos de entrar. El gerente del hotel es un edificio moderno, y no es tan agradable a la vista, pero sabíamos que. Esperábamos que la comida iba a ser de un alto nivel, basado en la reputación del lugar, y es la comida que realmente debería guau, particularmente con un almuerzo de Navidad. Nos decepcionó enormemente! Es la atención al detalle que importa, interesarse en la comida que pones en la mesa, y la experiencia de los clientes. He trabajado en hospitalidad yo en el pasado, y no es difícil de lograr estas cosas. Tengo que decir ante todo que el personal de las mesas estaban genial. Fueron acogedores, amables y atentos. El anfitrión también nos dio una muy cálida bienvenida en nuestra recepción, junto con una copa de Prosecco (la única bebida incluida). Un tazón de salsa de arándano era comprobar ubicado sobre la mesa. El primer plato era una terrina de pato con tostada, cebollas caramelised, y un poco de rocket. La terrina era sólido, junto con el personal y la mantequilla envueltos mini que estaban fuera de la nevera y sofá que no se hace. La idea era que obviamente disfrutar de la terrina en la tostada. Lo que acabé con un plato de pan roto y desordenados terrones terrina. La terrina tenía un sabor muy poco, con la sensación de ser el único cebolla sabor. Luego, vino la principal: mantequilla pavo asado, con todos los adornos (mmmn? ). Era un pequeño plato de comida, y me esperaba algo más sería traído a la mesa. No fue así. Había un tallo de brócoli, cuatro brotes, un poco de asado parsnip, y un poco quemado de algo naranja. No estoy seguro si era de zanahoria, nabo o batata. Fue cremado, así que no sabría qué decir. Menú no en mantas. cerdos Había que buscar, y encontramos uno escondido debajo del pavo. Había un pequeño pat de relleno. Fue sencillo, con vegetales cocidos nada para mejorar o añadir a los sabores. Todo era insulsa. Incluso una feria de sal y pimienta lugar: no hacer mucho para ayudar. No había nada de temporada el plato: no hay hierbas, especias, mantequilla/aceite, etc. Pregunté si tenían salsa de pan, ya que es un favorito de Navidad de la mía. No lo hicieron. Nos aclararon los platos, como no me gusta ver la comida desperdiciada y pagamos buen dinero por ella, pero no era una agradable comida. El postre fue destinado a ser budín de navidad en salsa de brandy, con helado de nuez moscada. No había helados. Pregunté, con la camarera, y regresó de la cocina con un bol con dos bolas de helado para compartir, y una aparente disculpa del chef. Si me chef y me gustaría poner un plato que estaba equivocado, el plato sería tomado distancia y reemplazado con el correcto servir. Me muero sólo para conseguir un plato con el que faltaba para compartir. Se demuestra claramente una falta de atención para la comida y la atención al cliente. Mini dulces tartas y café a Misa del gallo acabado. Las tartas eran claramente acababa de comprar, y no recién hechos, y cada mesa acabo una placa con el número de huéspedes en tartas por poner sobre la mesa, y te cogías tu mismo. No brandy mantequilla, y un poco seca.

El nuevo menú es bastante amplio y a un precio razonable. La comida es de buena calidad y los alrededores son tranquilos

Just called in for a pint. But ended up with the cajun chicken burger. Nice filet of chicken lovely sauce hot fries quick service. Good value for money.

We ate here and had drinks whilst staying in the hotel for a wedding.After returning from the local village pub on a Sunday evening at about 20:30, we were able to get some great food form the kitchen and drinks at prices which were cheaper than the hotel.Certainly recommend it if you are ever in the area or staying at the hotel.

Golf course clubhouse open for meals throughout the day. There were 3 of us - main courses only, all of which were very good. Service and welcome was generally good. Only negative was when ordering drinks and dessert I seemed to become invisible as barman talking to someone who had just come off the golf course - we didn't bother to order them

I went here after a visit to the go ape as we received a 15% discount card. This was the best decision we made that day! The steaks were amazing cooked to perfection just as we requested and beautiful large portions with real chips. Probably one of the best steaks I have had. Such good value for money too (even without the discount) we will definitely be going back. Also recommend the chocolate brownie but don't recommend you share it as its too delicious to share!

A good relaxed 19th hole...Hub of the golf club. Drop in for take away coffee etc after your 1st 9 holes and enjoy refreshments after your round or informal golfers style meal or snack late into the evening.

Nice fish choice, had the bass. Good sized portions. Other menu choices were good also amongst our visiting party. Cooked the steaks to perfection as requested.

Having had a lovely round of golf and in need of sustenance we headed for the keepers lodge for food and had fabulous fish and chips and cold beer looking out on the golf course...a great spot for relaxing after a game

A spacious clubhouse with a large bar/dining area, small pro shop, and changing rooms (but no lockers available for visitors).

nice enough clubhouse on the 18th, decent menu and the food was good but my steak was so so salty although pretty well cooked, beers are decent and served well, the staff are very pleasant and helpful (two Kiwi guys)comfortable seating , but way too many flies around!!a two course meal for two a tonic water and 3 beers, was £52

Club sandwich ordered and amazing hand cup chips after 18 holes of golf. Was enough for hubby and I to share. Reasonably priced tea & coffee. Large room with big to showing sky sports.

Lovely Sunday lunch at the Keepers Lodge in the grounds of Matfen Hall. Roast Pork was very tender and veg aldenty the way I like it good gravy. Excellent value for money. Quick friendly service. We will be back.

Set in the grounds of Matfen Hall, and with a huge window looking onto the golf course, this place immediately puts you in the mood to enjoy. You can even access the kitchen from the restaurant.There is a choice of menus: snacks or more substantial meals. There is a specials board which is changed daily.The bar is also well stocked, and well staffed.Service was good, and reasonably quick given that it was a busy Sunday afternoon and we had been squeezed in at short notice.Him indoors and I, and sis, had the ham hock terrine starter. It was served with a beetroot ketchup, which was really good, and toast fingers. The terrine itself was made up of nice chunks of ham hock, and was really tasty. It was a good size portion for a starter.Bro in law went for leek and potato soup. (there were two other soups available). It arrived hot and he said very tasty, and was served with a chunk of French style bread.The main courses were roast of the day, a salmon dish and a vegetarian option. Three of us went for the roast beef. Sis went for the pork. Our beef was served in thin-ish slices, and was really tender and tasty. Served with mangetout, broccoli, cauliflower, parsnips, mash and swede mash as well as roasties and yorkshire pud, with gravy. Beautifully presented and offered with sauces. him indoors asked for and got English mustard. Sis had ordered roast pork. Her slices were chunkier, and the crackling looked to die for (she said the whole dish was excellent and very tasty). She had the same veg as us, but asked for apple sauce, which duly came. The veg were beautifully cooked, the greens just al dente, the mash nice and creamy and flavoursome. It was a struggle to finish the main course, and we just could not find room for a pudding, even in the interest of research.Starters were about £5, main courses about £8. Very good value for money, and a really nice setting.

I had a good burger and my companions enjoyed their selection. I would not want to eat here every night of the stay, too much cholesterol!

My wife and I decided to take our elderly friends for afternoon tea AT Matfen hall, NOT the lodge, From arriving the staff were 1st rate, very helpful as our two friends are elderly and have to take their time on stairs etc.The tea arrived quickly however for the price we thought it would have been tea leaves not tea bags.Followed by our glasses of champagne.Two stand of a selection of sandwiches, scones & cakes arrive soon after, each time the staff could not have been more friendly.our opinion of the sandwiches were they could have had a little more filling ( in fact a lot more filling to be honest )Scones, were first rate as was the cream, but surely cream scones should come with strawberry jam, not a rather bitter raspberry ( maybe we're just being picky )The selection of cakes however were excellent.Afterwards we sat outside the conservatory and ordered a selection of drinks (whiskey, sherry, G & T, and a mL bottle of beer.Whole bill came to £120

If you want decent food at reasonable prices and a nice view over a golf course, this is the place for you

A warm friendly welcome with a great choice of food. All food and drink reasonably priced, try the fish and chips, more like whale and chips! Delicious! The sunday roast with fresh veg also looked good.

The food was delicious our party had the surf and turf, lasagne and a chicken dish. The staff were all friendly and provided excellent serve.

In fact, they were the best part about this little café / restaurant.Service was not the best compared with most of the other restaurants / cafe's I have visited in the area. (Man behind the bar also did the food orders, I can see he was in a bit of a flap, however never appeared rushed off his feet - we were the only one's in there - which may excuse his rudeness).Overall, worth a visit however

The Keepres Lodge is the Matfen Golr Clubhouse.. The food is very good and inexpensive. The views over the Golf Course are superb. Well worth a visit and non members are welcome.

Lovely food, Lots to choice from the menu. Sandwiches, fish and chips. Spacious with a view over the golf grounds. Friendly staff. Service prompt. Value for money.

Quick meal one night whilst staying in the hotel - good quality at a reasonable price, with all the rustic flair a golfer could want. Staff were good, tab was easy to sort and the second night we were warned straightaway that food was no longer being served, which was fine as we were just there for the drink. Even able to buy a bottle and borrow an ice bucket and take it back to the room in the hotel.

You certainly do not need to eat in Matfen Hall to receive the exceptional service The Keepers Lodge can provide. The food is outstanding and the staff will cater for your needs and requests regardless. It has not got the ambience the hotel can provide but the standards of the food and its delivery is fabulous....Outstanding

In an informal atmosphere you have a selection of around 10 different meals for about 10 Pound.The chicken curry is very tasty

Visited with my wife and granddaughter we had sunday lunch.My wife had their mixed dinner , I had Lamb and my granddaughter sausages.All were quite nice but nothing special and I noticed that the broccoli was way overcooked.the Matfen Majic real ale was very nice.

A lovely meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The food arrived quickly and was tasty the chefs tailored my meal to my food allergies and preferences I wss very impressed.The only negative was the chips was already salted and my husband isnt a lover of salt. Overall we wanted to go back the following night but there was a private function on. Will go again

I have visited this venue for lunch many times whilst staying at Matfen Hall. On this occasion we were the only people eating at lunch time so chef was not busy. I ordered a cheese burger ( £8.95) and my wife a sandwich and chips. It arrived promptly but seemed to be a poor effort. The Aberdeen angus burgers used to be thick and tasty but this time seemed to be from the local freezer shop. Tasteless, expensive and all in all a poor meal for the price. Had sticky toffee pudding for desert and this was quite nice.Staff friendly but food of a low standard. The next time we visit Matfen Hall we will call into a local pub and see if they can do better.Shame.

Great food and service - considering it is a golf club house the food quality is really quite good with the chef giving good attention to detail.

I've found myself stuck in my village without a car this last week or two so I've visited the Keeper's Lodge three times recently. One for lunch, one for tea and then for Sunday dinner. It's a friendly place, canteen in style, not at all snooty, and with fantastic views over the golf course. The food is really very reasonably priced, freshly made and unpretentious. I've had the Club Sandwich (£5.95) for lunch which was excellent, fully stacked and fresh, Aberdeen Angus cheeseburger and chips (£6-£7-ish) which was generously proportioned, moist burger and crispy chips, then the Sunday lunch which was really perfect. Roast beef with every imaginable trimming plus more, huge Yorkshire puds and lovely gravy. The little bread dumplings are very European and delicious. It came in at £8.95, which for the setting and the food was great. I think the place has improved greatly in recent months and I hope it continues.
