The Jug & Bottle in Wirral

This is great for a family function. We had a great meal where everyone enjoyed all of their food to the full. It was very busy but felt relaxed and comfortable. The service was quite quick and very friendly and we loved the food. A great booking with great parking.

My wife and I stayed here for one night to attend a function nearby . The location was ideal, the bedroom was warm and spotlessly clean and the staff were welcoming , helpful and friendly . We also had an evening meal which was excellent . If you need to stay in the Heswall area or even just enjoy a meal / drink then this is the perfect choice .

Great place to stay and eat, busy in the evenings and dogs are welcome.

My favourite place to come for a veggie Sunday roast, never disappoints and dog friendly. Lovely decor and cosy inside.

Misserable staff , awful food , slow service. 2nd visit in a few weeks would now never return or recommend, it took forever to be asked for drinks to the point it was quicker to go up to the bar, food took ages and was cold and hard, vegetables that hard you cant even cut them with your knife! Every waitress was miserable they are not on the ball at all, leave you sat with dirty plates and empty glasses for ages too. Constantly having to find a member of staff to ask for a drink. Hubby even feels ill today and we are almost certain it was from the cold chicken he ate there. The prices are not exactly cheap for such an awful experience.

I came on 11th of February with my wife and a fiend who lives in Hong Kong we really enjoyed all our meals and starters and would recommend your restaurant

Lovely pub, but quite dismayed by the fact we sat at a table that was not reserved when waiter came out reservation time on it which obviously meant we had to vacate the table how very rude, not good

We enjoyed the food and couldn't fault the service. However, there were dogs everywhere! I don't have a problem with dogs being in particular areas of pubs but there seems to be an assumption now that they can just go in every room in pubs and cafés. I know people who have phobias about dogs, some people are allergic to fur, and I also have concerns about hygiene. I have conveyed all of this to the pub but have had no response from them.

Excellent food – started with a range of tasty bread, olives etc., then others had roast chicken, I had cod. Everything delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was impeccable from all concerned. Comfortable restaurant area, packed enough to get a good atmosphere but no sense of overcrowding. Nice local gin selection.

Poor ambience. Table set out like a seaside cafe. Didn't bother to light the table candle. Food poor. Sesame Prawn toast soft and over powered by garlic more like a cake than a toast. Duck breast very chewy and lacking a good sauce. Pork dish an improvement but the 5 spice confit was undercooked, sloppy and not crispy. Bill appeared with someone else's drinks on it (£15). No parking space despite the hotel appearing to be empty of customers.

i had a stay at jug and bottle to a concert locally with a good friend , the welcome standards rooms and food most better before years ago it has go up a level breakfast and meal plated very good local beer etc at room fine BUT no towels been hotels and catering my self found the towel cupboards Excellent well down staff 10/10

Often go here as I love the Sunday roast but this time I did not love the hour wait! We had to find a waitress for a menu after sitting for 20 mins then we waited another 10 mins for drinks. Really spoilt was is usually a great place. I did comment on the excessive wait but no reason was given.

Well situated, an easy, up-hill walk from village centre. Location, interior, food and service excellent.

Nice location and efficient table service from waiting staff. Bar service questionable, 2 staff cleaning lines, 1 staff bottling up and no sevice? Not entirely impressed with the food, which was quite standard, contrary to other reviews and website description.

Lovely cosy pub with EXCELLENT food. Walked in with no booking as a table of 7 and a dog and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us and get us a lovely table. Had a great meal and felt so looked after. We were celebrating an engagement and without realising, the staff made it very special. Thank you so much!

Loved this place. The rooms were spotless, food was great! Special mention to the staff /manager, who with out exception, were excellent.

The service was very slow and our food took more than 1 hour 15 minutes to arrive for my daughter's birthday meal treat This took the shine off the evening and was totally unacceptable as the restaurant was not especially busy. To cap the already unsuccessful evening, my son who had the pork ribs for his main meal was violently sick early the following morning, indicating a high likelihood of food poisoning. My wife has been there with girlfriends on numerous occasions and based on her complimentary reviews, we booked this meal. Clearly, things have changed for the worse and we will not be visiting again.

A boutique type pub but a modest experience. Trappers hat beer tasted old and unappetising and didn't have the chance to finish it as the barmaid grabbed the glass and removed it. It was offered back with an apology but I was hardly going to drink the remainder from a fingered glass!!

Ideal for our purpose visit to Heswall.

Had a wonderful stay here, the room was comfortable, spacious and well furnished. The bathroom was great, and really clean. We had both an evening meal and breakfast in the restaurant and both were excellent. All 3 of our party were delighted with the evening meal including starters, every dish was delicious with substantial portions. Would definitely recommend.

We met a friend for lunch, sort of half business meeting/friendly lunch. Met by the bar person who was pretty abrupt and had just had a minor disagreement with our friend prior to us arriving.....customer is not always right it appears when questioning the taste...

Food was fantastic, good service and nicely chilled out atmosphere, especially as it was a busy Saturday night. Staff were friendly and gave excellent service although they were a little slow after the mains but not enough to spoil the meal. I would eat here again for sure. Visited here for two evening meals while staying in the Wirral. Menu had just been changed slightly so tried the new John Dory fish which I'd never heard of.
