The Jolly Sailor - Wetherspoon in Bristol, City of

Lovely Spoons. It's a shame it's shutting. Popped in for the first time on its last day. Sun was stunning while sat out the front in the beer garden. Tidy pub with lots of seating, inside, outside, and upstairs. Toilets were a bit of a hike. Food and drink very standard for a Spoons. Guinness was rather nice and well poured.

Used to be a nice enough place to have a drink and a bite to eat or a meal but in the past I experienced some bad behaviour between other customers and the manager Jack/Jake who was on at the time didn't deal with it very well which ruined the atmosphere for me. There have been other incidents since that haven't been dealt with properly. Some of the staff are rude. Unfortunately this place has gone down hill. Certainly not somewhere I would want to go to anymore. Best to avoid this place.

It's such a shame to see this pub is closing as a Wetherspoon's. On my visit, there was friendly service and good value for money food. It felt welcoming and had a good range of ales.

I would strongly advise not to eat here.. The pub is changing hands in a month and the current food being served is shocking.. I can only guess they are using what is left in their freezer. The expensive American cheese burger is smaller than a mcdonalds happy meal. No pizzas left shows that no food is left.. Shocking....

Nice clean breakfast and service. Shame about the excuse that was called a mushroom. Was offered another 1 but pretty much finished. Overall very happy. Clean plate means happy belly

Great food and a fun pub quiz when we went there

Well where do i start!. I do not recommend the food as its always been undercooked when i have eaten food there. The drinks have probably been there best but would be better if they had nice bar staff. (U could be waiting and waiting and bar staff to serve you.)

Absolutley awful, each meal was just terrible. My Grandughter he a burger and found a hair in it,and and when I explained to the manager" She said "im just wondering how a hair could have got in their because he Chef hasn't got any hair" I said that other people must go into the kitchen , but her customer service was dreadful ! Ill never attempt to eat in there gain, very very poor !

The quicker this place is closed the better. The young staff are very lacking in customer service and very rude. Full of under age drinkers on a weekend who barely sniff a drink and want to fight u!!!. Probably the worst spoons in bristol.

Reasonably tidy 'spoons with pleasant outside area considering it is on the main road. Public car park nearby.

It's a Wetherspoons so don't expect anything fancy. It's a great pub with drinks at very good prices and the food is pretty good too. As with all these places, staffing is always an issue but, be patient - it's well worth it. Being in the middle of Hanham, it's well placed and is very popular.

I went to the Jolly sailor on remembrance Sunday with a craft group. It was very busy, but that was to be expected, being remembrance Sunday. We sat upstairs and had a long table for our group which was great. The atmosphere was really good. Whilst the initial drink I ordered took about half hour to arrive, I feel that this wasn't their fault as they'd had several staff members call in sick at short notice, so I was happy to wait. My next order (the food) came really quickly and was delicious. I had haloumi fries and southern fried chicken - both delicious and piping hot. The chap who came to clear plates was lovely and made an effort to engage with the group about what we were doing. I didn't use the toilets so I can't comment on them. All in all it was a lovely bustling pub and I'd be more than happy to visit again.

Lovely pub in the heart of a lovely community. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The staff are always smiling and very friendly with the children. Service is quick and always nice. Again staff couldn't do enough they are amazing. Drink service is a good price and easy and quick to buy and serve. This is a brilliant pub in the heart of the community, please keep it open!!

A great pub have been coming here for many years with friends please don't sell Kingswood Wetherspoons just not the same or convenient

As you would expect at a Wetherspoon's. Friendly staff. Nice cosy pub, quick service at the bar or on the app. Baby changing facilities are good and there is a toilet in there as well for parents/ guardians to use.

Cheap and cheerful. Food is great for the price, can be hit and miss. Wine and beer fine. I go regularly. Could do with a deep clean otherwise perfect for a cheeky get together x

Felt sorry for staff. One girl trying to cope on her own. She had to get back behind the bar when we needed serving then couldn't stop serving to get the coffee machine refilled when it stopped working. Otherwise all good..

Very disappointed, staff abrupt. Tables dirty, toilets far worse. Meals cold and thrown at us. Complained to the young blond lLady Manager, full of her self importance, she implied, if we weren't satisfied we should eat elsewhere??? Blamed her new inexperienced staff? Pub also full of under age drinking with behaviour that comes with it. 3 starred, should be 1.

Young staff rude and ignorant! Only wanted to serve their mates. Juvenile female management, lazy nasty and couldn't careless! Cliquey atmospheres unless you knew the bar staff and were part of their own private youth club that they created. The sooner this Wetherspoons is sold and closed down the better! A disgrace to the entire company!

Came in for a couple after a busy day and as always Kayla was very helpful and friendly and quick with a smile. Which helps to make this the best Spoon's in Bristol. Jordan and a new member of staff called Ella were also very friendly

Excellent service, they even opened the upstairs bar for us. One meal came late hence the lack of 5 stars. Nice place, good atmosphere and reasonably busy. High Street location with some outside space. Public carpark nearby (I wasn't driving). Soft and non-alcoholic drinks available. Tonight, there was a limited selection of curries, on curry night! Beer was hit and miss, Doom Bar and Ruddles were not available at times during the evening. Other than that, it was a good night.

Stopped off at the Jolly sailor en route to Bath. I have to say this was far and away the best meal experience at a Weatherspoons for a long long time. Nice tasting and really hot food. Excellent service from the cheerful staff on the day. Well done everyone. We wish our local Wetherspoon ( The mail rooms Ross on wye) Could deliver food of this quality. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Average weatherspoons upstairs only open on Friday Saturday night so can be limited seating. Generally kept tidy but can get a bit messy at busy times

Excellent service at the Jolly Sailor in Hanham today. Our meal was served very quickly. The food was excellent quality and along with our drinks was such good value for money. Will definitely be coming back.

Great friendly staff food was really good don't feel rushed or in the way this is by far the best weatherspoons I've been in to date also only one set of stairs to use their toilets lol

This pub could be a goldmine,sure it makes abit now but the decor and lighting is not great. You walk in and it feels like someone shining a torch at your face! You don't want that ambiance on a evening. All decent classy well managed pubs have a perfect warm lighting, not even expensive to sort out. Simple adjustment and no one seems to have a clue! Rubbish management clearly. Back garden is awful. Could be updated and a real winner but clearly no one got the sense to work that out

My Sister said her sweet chilli halloumi wrap was the best she had ever tasted. The fish and chips I had was nice too.🙂👍

This is my local pub and it's the best Spoon's in Bristol. The staff are excellent from top to bottom from the manager David, to Jordan, to Sophie, Kayla and Sherry. All are friendly and always have a can do attitude

How long will this place last? Poor (absent) management, regular lack of staff at bar (doing other stuff), no control of loud customers, lack of final orders communication.

This pub has now become a joke,everyone you talk to about this pub says the same things, staff turnover,lack of knowledge and experience,the food is a joke its either burnt to a crisp or stone cold,upstairs is only open sometimes depending on who the manager is on that shift!! And when it is open you have to go downstairs to get drinks and carry them upstairs,which is a health and safety issue,one day I saw an elderly lady struggling upstairs carrying a heavy tray of drinks, whilst trying to hold on to the banister!! The staff are more interested in having their little group chats around the corner of the bar area,whilst there are customers waiting to be served and most of the staff are rude and have no customer skills , either get a decent team in who actually know what they are doing or shut the place down!.

Extremely quick service and very polite staff. Definitely recommend! We stopped here after a long car journey and wanted some food. The staff were welcoming! The food & drink came 5-10 minutes after ordering on the app.

saw a bad review but it was the closest wetherspoons coming from day out in Bath so rang ahead to ask if they had parking and had a lovely response from a lady telling us there is a free car park on Sunday’s for shoppers across the road. ideal! got here, found nice table, ordered easily via app. wi-fi good in this pub. nice chap brought drinks over, and later the good. all arrived really quickly and my gosh, that lasagne and salad was just what i needed after a weekend of takeaway food. delicious. i’m stuffed now. thank you very much Jolly Sailor. you deserve a brilliant review tonight!

This place is a joke AVOID !!!, went here for lunch today 3 of us, ordered food which the waiter dropped and came over with one of the meals with half the food missing and said I’ve got one then walked off, no cutlery no condiments or anything was offered and not even an apology, by the time the other 2 replacement meals came I had finished my half of a meal the other half was still on the floor, the chef came out to look what had been dropped and swore the f word really loud, worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant it needs to work on it’s customer service I certainly won’t be going there ever again

9pm on a Friday night and no decent real ale available. Not one guest ale, no Abbott, no Doom Bar. If this pub wants to encourage it's pre-lockdown patrons back it'll have to do a lot better.

Been a fantastic pub for your money for years. One of my favourite Wetherspoons around and lucky enough to have in on our doorstep. You pay peanuts and the quality of the food is good so I feel it deserves some of recognition for the years of visits.

Do not go hear, the place stinks, food is rank and the atmosphere is lacking. There are nicer more local pubs with better food nearby

We live close by and have been here on a number of occasions. The pub is large and over 2 floors with a very good selection of drinks at a very good price. The food is of a decent standard and quite cheap. A great place to meet or have a late drink.

Very disappointed with my experience as every aspect of my family's meal had an issue. To begin the drinks: the wrong drink was given and the unlimited coffee machine was empty. The food: the chips were cold, we specified medium-rare steak and were given something past well done. Overall a disappointment, won't be returning.

Downstairs was very full apart for stools which I can not sit on. Climbed stairs to find another couple who also discovered area closed. Returned to downstairs and were relieved to see a couple leaving and grabbed that table. Downstairs can be chilly when door is opened , why not close both doors to reduce to cold air coming in. I did ask why no sign at bottom of stairs and got a shrug of the shoulders. We ordered small fish and chips which took ages to arrive and was minute. I know it is cheaper option but more fish in one fish finger. I had same thing in October seemed a lot larger . The server did admit she had dropped the first meal and that caused a delay ,well done for confessing . Apple crumble and custard was very good ,nice lot of pieces of apple.

Sorry to say this wetherspoons has twice since boxing day not had the upstairs seating area open & no where to sit I have just watched 8 people or more walk out on New year's eve day time. All I can say is hope it improves in the New Year or sadly people will be going elsewhere & another pub will be closing down.

Went for mushrooms as an extra to my breakfast, two lots of mushrooms £1.05 for these well past there sell by date shrooms. #dissapointed

Visited today for late lunch with family, well worth waiting for, staff friendly and very helpful, the food was excellent.

This place is always packed to the rafters. If you are going on a Thursday make sure you run and book a table as they are always fully booked. Curry nights are great value for money!

We went here for a lunch and all 3 of us opted for different meals from the menu. All were good and enjoyable. There was a good range of beers and wines etc. The pub was fairly full. The toilets apart from disabled are on the first floor and were clean.

Good food, good drinks, nice service.......we ate there last august and this august as well had drinks after our art class across the street........lovely high street, lovely small town....

Took my grand daughter here for a lunch time meal. Could not fault the food or the service. Child friendly. Had a really enjoyable time.

After a morning spent walking along the Avon valley the Doom Bar pint was just what the doctor ordered at such an affordable price, while the accompanying "small plate" dish consisting of 3 plump sausages, nice sized chips and sufficient baked beans was quickly demolished as it was so tasty. A simple but pleasurable experience.

Ordered food and Sat by the bar!! heard the bell go 20mins later food came to our table stone Cold!! Plates weren't even warm, cheese in my panini was still solid !chips cold!! Had a refund again this must be about 10 times we've had to have a refund due to food being Cold!! This has got to be the worst run Wetherspoons!! You should close this one down instead of the st George one! This place is an absolute disgrace.

Breakfast here was fantastic. Gluten free option was superb. Good friendly service by all staff, nothing was too much trouble. Parking nearby is free. Very accessible to all.

Called in for breakfast, ordered scrambled egg on toast. The food came out quickly but....the toast had no butter on it and the scrambled egg was so overcooked it look like rubber. This seems to be a common thing as every Wetherspoons I've visited for breakfast the scrambled egg is verging on in-edible.

I visited the Jolly Sailor with my son for a couple of drinks and something to eat. I have always liked this particular Wetherspoons pub and have often enjoyed food here too. I ordered the gammon steak. It came promptly but it was the smallest piece of steak I have ever seen. It looked like a thick rasher of bacon as opposed to a "steak"! And I actually counted 14 chips. This included the small burnt ones. It's a pity because I normally enjoy my food here.

Nice atmosphere, cheap drinks (as with any Spoons) and decent food. Tip: If the bar is busy downstairs, there's a smaller bar upstairs which is normally quiet!

On 30/62019 as a group of 65 Charity Walker we went to this Pub for a pre-booked lunch and had the most amazing Service, Food, and the atmosphere was great too, the staff were great and we didn't have to wait very long for our food once ordered and paid for so a Great BIG Thank you to all the staff from the kitchen to the restaurant.

Came here with my wife and daughter at around 1pm and was greeted upstairs by a lovely young lady with a flowery lanyard around her neck. Very polite and charming even when making a mistake she apologised profusely even though I hadn't even noticed. Came to see if our food was okay and even offered to microwave mine when I informed I was a slow eater. Food was lovely and didn't take anytime at all. Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely be returning again!

Dropped in for a couple of drinks with friends, early evening. Only 1 person serving behind bar. I searched for a drinks menu on the bar, bar tender told me they were on the table. I hunted around and found a menu, the bartender informed me that I had the food menu. I hunted and found another menu, again, bartender informed me I still had the wrong menu. This time the bartender did find me the correct drinks menu. Why aren't these kept on the bar, where people buy drinks!! When I went to buy the drinks was told bar tender busy serving food, so had to wait along with others at the bar. Won't be rushing back.

We ordered meals and the cutlery was dirty, the staff were doing exercises in view of the customers in the kitchen instead of working and the meal portions were very poor.

Went for a Sunday afternoon pint no one behind bar waited 5 mins for barman to return order a Stella was told that they had to get from upstairs bar waited a further 8 mins for a drink

Very slow service, awful food which was either, cold, over cooked, too small portions (compared to other Wethers). The worst Wetherspoons meal ever.......avoid it!

45 minute wait for breakfast which when if came we were both missing items. When pointed was told it will be along shortly. Both breakfasts stone cold on complaining the manager said he would refund but no offer of replacement food. Wasted an hour of my life in this dump. Uncaring staff, dirty plates everywhere and toilets unchecked .

i went to my local spoons with my dad. 05.03.19 , the chap who served our food looked like he just came in from a good night out. shirt was a mess and he couldnt even be bothered to shave, our food was terrible, i had pizza which my dad sent back as the oil and toppings were dripping off the plate, after a few minutes it came back on the same plate... microwave job.... looking near enough the same. the chap serving said the chef said "its just the oil and cheese mixing together"... mmmmm me thinks not. it was oily and to be frank pretty rubbish. my dads meal was`nt that much better. his jug of gravy,(instead of coming out seperatley) was plonked straight in the middle of the peas. it wasnt very hot and what was meant to be a nice lunch made us wish we went to greggs. most spoons are ok but this one seems to be on the naff pile. you should have a minus review as this was by far the worst meal i have had.

Good pub well used by local people. Reasonable selection of drinks and extensive cheap food menu. Well worth a visit.
