Always friendly, warm & inviting. Good selection of unusual beers - plus proper ciders, perry's, gins & all sorts of other things if they are what you're after.

This place has so much potential. It's got a lovely little wood burner, snug seating, it's cosy and atmospheric. There's always something interesting on tap if you like craft beer. But everything is ruined by the least friendly landlord this side of Tehran. Don't even think about asking for a taster as you would in any other pub that sells unusual beers. You'll be lucky to get a millimetre of froth. What a miserable sod. But the beer is good and so are the peanuts. And we made friends with some other punters who'd also felt the sharp end of the landlord's tongue so we enjoyed rolling our eyes behind his back lols. I always say if you don't like your job, quit.

It really is as warm and cosy inside as the pictures suggest. Friendly bar man who adds to the laid back atmosphere generated in what has been surprisingly a pub for only eight years. Whilst just two cask beers were on tap, the one I tried from Orkney was in excellent condition. Plenty of choice for craft beer drinkers also one perry and six proper ciders. They even have local Sussex Wine by the glass. Check their opening hours if you are coming any distance first. Excellent.

The Jolly Fisherman was a pub for 125 years until 1959, but when I first saw the building it was a pie & mash shop and B&B, but for the past circa 7 years it's been a micropub again. I visit every couple of weeks and meet up with 4-5 friends, although a few of them go much more regularly. It sells 2 or 3 cask ales, half a dozen or so craft keg beers, and a half dozen or so ciders/perry. Plus an interesting selection of spirits (wine of course), many bottled beers, and an interesting selection of bar snacks. Friendly warm atmosphere, and a tiny back door, mind your head! Great music played too, and not too loud, but tasteful. You usually find beers from the continents too, I have no idea how they manage to get some of them!

The guy serving was unfriendly, unhelpful and pretty rude. Went in asking for a bit of advice on their car range of beers they sell. Server clearly couldn’t care less and and couldn’t have been more huffy and snotty. We won’t be coming back. Training very much needed.

Poor selection of real ales, this place is more about the 'craft' keg beers and ciders. Real ale is also not hand pulled but he uses some sort of pump contraption to bring the ale up to the bar.

There are 5 star bars. Then there are world class gems. This is a world class gem. In Hastings! Super knowledgeable behind the bar. Really unique beer and cider list. Takes a lot these days to delight someone as seasoned as me when it comes to beer. Nailed it and I am both surprised and delighted. The world needs more bars like this! Unmissable if you love beer. I hope this level can be maintained....because it's so tough to do. Very well done- it makes such a difference.

This was a good place for real ale but the prices are very expensive now. It seems to think as it is real ale or craft beer it can cost a fortune. Real ale sold in pints craft beer in 2/ 3 of a pint cider in 2/3 of a pint Why the stupid measures?? Nice place but you have been warned. Other pubs have a good selection so look around.

I visited on Fat Tuesday weekend when Old Hastings was bursting at the seams with revellers. The atmosphere in the Jolly was wonderful as was the beer. A huge selection, all very well kept and served by a knowledgeable barman. When the guv'nor came down later in the evening we had a wonderful chat about brewery history and our experiences in various Sussex towns. There is no doubt he is the real deal and knows his stuff. A wonderful friendly oasis in a desert of madness. Can't wait to go back. Unhesitatingly reccommended

No real atmosphere in what is effectively a craft beer focused micropub opposite the sea front. Prices on display are the 'take out' prices and an extra 10% is levied for the privilege of sitting on one of the few seats inside. There are plenty of other other pubs nearby providing a warmer welcome and real ale that easily matches I'd not surpasses the offering here. Wouldn't hurry back as nothing to particularly commend it.

Pre-booked a table as a sensible customer would only to be ignored at the door for some considerable time. Given the space is tiny, I can only assume I was being ignored. I tried to enter the pub to then be berated for going in. Not entirely sure how booking a table, turning up on time and wearing a mask results in terrible customer service. Took ages to be served (5 tables max). Staff obviously distracted by the small child running up and down all evening. I won’t be back.

After a week on holiday staying just outside Hastings it took until the last day to find the best pub in Hastings! Fantastic micropub with a great range of ales and cider. I like trying new beers of any style and was surprised to walk in to the Jolly Fisherman and find all 7 beers on tap were beers I'd not had before, including 2 dark beers. They even serve beer in thirds, halves, 2/3s, pints and 3 thirds on a paddle. Very friendly and welcoming, great service, dog friendly and very good with covid 19 measures. I would definitely recommend to any real ale lover and will visit again if I'm in the area.
