Had a great dinner here with the kids. Really friendly staff, decent drinks amazing food and they do a really nice twist on an apple crumble for desert.

Thank you to Bayo and his stuff for making my mums birthday soo special. Such great food that can be tailored to everyone’s palates. I love my food spicy and he accommodated for that. Whilst my niece hates spice. We explained that to the staff and were so surprised by how much we loved the food and how quickly they tailored it to us . If you are in the area craving Caribbean or African food please give this a try. Or if you’d like to try Caribbean/ African food for the first time it is a great place to start. The service is amazing and the vibes are high. If we are in the area we will definitely be back !!!

After a gruelling long shift I was in desperate need of a good meal before heading back for the second half of my shift. I decided to pop into Carib De L'Afrique in Hastings, and it turned out to be just what I needed. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and vibrant atmosphere immediately lifted my spirits. The decor, with its rich African influence, was inviting and colourful, setting the perfect backdrop for what promised to be an enjoyable dining experience. The menu offered a delightful array of traditional Caribbean and African dishes, and I was spoilt for choice. I finally settled on the goat curry, which was cooked off the bone to suit the preference of European customers. I must say, it was nothing short of delicious. The curry was rich and aromatic, with tender pieces of goat that practically melted in the mouth. The rice and peas that accompanied it were flavourful and well-cooked, making for a thoroughly satisfying meal. The portions were generous, which was much appreciated given the long hours ahead. The service was equally commendable. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure that everything was to my liking without being overbearing. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in both the quality of the food and the overall experience. In all, Carib De L'Afrique provided me with a much-needed break and a taste of home-cooked comfort in the midst of a hectic day. Whether you're a fan of Caribbean cuisine or just looking for a hearty, satisfying meal in Hastings, I’d highly recommend giving this place a try.

We were looking forward to eating here and certainly not disappointed- the food is delicious, authentic and tasty, the restaurant has a lovely vibe and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I only wish this place was in my doorstep!

Really disappointed with our recent order.For £42 and only 4 dishes we expected a high quality meal and good portion sizes.The beef stew was flavourless and tiny almost pea sized bits of meat throughout the stew.The jerk chicken we ordered 2 portions of as we knew from past experience you are only given 2 pieces of chicken per £8 dish!When we last tried it it was worth the price at a push.But this was again flavourless and the chicken skin was flabby.The curry goat again had such a small amount of meat in it would not have been sufficient for one person let alone 2!And we aren't a greedy or over eating couple.I had to make cous cous at home to go along side the food (I never ordered rice as I expected it to be too much with the dishes we ordered.Even with chinese & indian takeaways we don't order rice as its too filling) and I added nandos sauce and beef stock to this meal so basically cooked for myself and it tasted awful & cost £42.Not acceptable!Won't order from here again.

Partner and I visited while on holiday in Hastings and wow. Beautiful lay out, great music, very chilled vibe, lovely helpful service from the lady who knew her stuff for sure and most of all incredible food. Hands down one of my fav places I’ve eaten in years. Also to add my partner is vegan and was very well catered for.

The food was incredible & had plenty of options for vegans! Would defo recommend to anyone who wants to try something exotic. Was a little disappointed they didn’t sell jackfruit anymore but got to try new dish’s that pleasantly surprised my tastebuds! Shocking!! This place is not value for money & the food is terrible! I went yesterday to have lunch. They do a deal for £10. I added an extra piece of chicken for £4 as they said the normal portion isn’t that big. When I got my meal it wasn’t even edible, and it got chucked straight in the bin. The rice was cooked wiv an inch of its life. It was like mush! They obviously freeze the meals & re-heat them. The chicken was seriously burnt, the sauce was oily water, tasteless. I was given no salad which was meant to be included. And also paid extra for more chicken which I didn’t get. £15 for that meal is not value for money. 3 tiny pieces of chicken & very poor rice. If been to the Caribbean many times & eaten in a lot of the same places & it’s been the worst ever! I also complained & was asked to bring the meal back if I want a refund. After sending the pictures over & then I get blocked by them. Terrible

Friendly staff nice restaurant. Food was cooked okay but tiny portions and had no spice ! Flavour was nice but incredibly mild wouldn't call it jerk chicken. My toddler could eat it no problem which says it all 😅

Just had Beef and Spinach stew with rice and peas. Partner had jerk chicken, rice and peas. Absolutely delish. Will be returning for goat curry, jolof rice and plantain. 100% recommend.

Absolutely delicious goat curry with rice and peas, best I have tasted in a long time. Not too spicy but full of flavour. Great portion size and perfect flavours. I have picked up a take away menu and am looking forward to trying other dishes.

The atmosphere and food here is amazing! Me and my friend kept seeing this place and loved its vibe so we finally decided to go in and it did not disappoint! The people are really friendly, the whole place is so colourful and the music is always so good! The food was really flavourful and delicious! Absolutely wild find in Hastings. Superb and authentic Jamaican and Nigerian cuisine. And I mean superb!!!!!! Caramelised Plantains are so good they ought to be illegal. The home made chilli sauce is hot, balanced and the kind you wish you could buy bottled to take home with you. For a culinary treat, pop in sometime. You'll be hooked.

Amazing! I came in to this restaurant to try it out because I loved the decor, I was then thrilled with an amazing meal and un-beatable service, we were instantly made to feel at home. The food was bursting with flavour and I would 100% recommend everyone to try. Fantastic all round :)

Amazing vibes and super friendly service when we visited - instantly got chatting like old friends and owner even gave us a list of local recs for things to do in Hastings. Do bear in mind the jerk chicken they have is saucy but it melted off the bones + was amazingly seasoned so we found it great. Dessert was luscious too! Wish the plantain portion was larger but this could be biased with my passion for plantains! Will visit again and thank you!

The two stews were good, we asked if there was an African bread and they brought us a slice of bread for toast which was valued at 2 Pounds on the bill. Bottles of beer are overpriced.

Absolutely loved the food at Carib De L’Afrique. We called in over the Bank Holiday Easter weekend. The owner was extremely helpful, I am Vegan and he explained that they had many vegan meals, I had the chickpea, Potato and coconut curry which was superb, you can just tell how fresh the ingredients were, their plantains are scrumptious ! My husband and Son both had meat curries and they loved them too. The restaurant is spotless, so bright and cheery, the music playlist creates a real vibe. I would highly recommend Carib De L’Afrique, they have everything ❤️🎶😀

The Food is dank, the price is cheap for what it is. The man who runs it is so helpful and down to earth, amazing service. The mad mix is MAD

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Hastings however it was the first time we dined in. The food was fabulous as always and we went with the owners recommendation but I did insist on the goat curry. Well worth a visit.

We ended up here with no prior plan, and we're very glad we did! Food was delicious and very different to what I'd had. Bayo was very friendly, welcoming and suggested plenty of recommendations. He even went as far as tweaking some of the food for us :) Felt like we were visiting a family friend rather than a restaurant. It is more of 'home-cooking' vibe rather than a 'restaurant' alone. Ordered a takeaway at 6:00 pm for 7:00 delivery. Finally arrived at 8:30. £68+ order. Small portions of okayish food. Definitely not value for money! Offered a £5 discount on next order. There will not be a next order!

This place is beyond the standard of expectation. The food is all made on premises, never frozen, and always fresh. The atmosphere is very ambient and the restaurant owners are a lovely couple who are always very welcoming and hospitable. Do NOT miss this hidden Hastings gem.

This place was incredible. I spent some time in Battle/Bexhill/Hastings area and wanted to try something different from fish and chips! Came across this place from a recommendation from a taxi driver and it did not disappoint at all. A lovely vibrant restaurant that is true to its USP... Caribbean and African food. It was home away from home, reminded me of the food I ate growing up and still enjoy in my adulthood. Highly recommend. Owner is friendly and there's always good music playing. It was an enjoyable experience I came twice over 2 consecutive days.

Horrible owner, horrible restaurant, disgusting attitude and not one ounce of community spirit! The owner sets up a speaker outside his restaurant blasting music despite many locals pleading with him to stop. He's free to play whatever music he likes inside his restaurant but obviously the food is not up to the mark if he has to resort to creating a loud nuissance to attract attention, he's so tight he doesn't even spring for Spotify premium so we all have to listen to the Ad's,

I do not usually write bad reviews about independent businesses, as they struggle today and it feels vindictive to put the extra knife in. I also think people should go find out for themselves about places. But a visit to Carib L'Afrique left me with a feeling like humiliation after dining there, as I walked away considering - while all the while knowing - I'd been totally swindled. The restaurant is small and was previously a fast food stop, but there has been a tatty tropical makeover suggesting a beach bar in sunny Hastings. The chairs and tables have been bundled in there and you're packed in trying to soak up the reggae and enjoy restaurant luxury, but can't completely forget this used to be the waiting area in a chicken shop where drunks brawled and shouted. But I'm a Londoner, I like my Caribbean food, and I decided to give it a try anyway. At the cocktail shack in the corner is the owner, broad-shouldered and broadly smiling, with an Idi Amin suggestion of affability and danger. Every inquiry fluidly answered with extra oiliness - 'We've got the best Caribbean food on the south coast. People travel all the way up from London for it.' It must be good then, I thought. I waited an age. Downed two Red Stripes. Listened to the owner's chronicles of culinary glory. Then after forty minutes came my dumplings, goat curry and rice. Which looked bland, or rather, drab; as drab as the rainy coastal high street outside the window, and as bland as the mimicry of the Caribbean I sat amongst. It was an uneventful meal, ate with no passion, though I was starved. I had no idea of the horrors which would be visited upon my bum later in the evening. I couldn't wait to get out of there. 'Certainly, sir,' or something to that effect, he said when I asked for the bill, assured I'd just enjoyed my food. Horror. Nearly sixty pounds for two beers, a curry and dumplings. I felt nostalgic for the kebab house and chippies I'd passed before getting here. 'It's a bit dear, eh?' I protested. 'For Harrods food you pay Harrods prices,' he answered, towering above me. I paid. Feeling as disgusted with myself as I was with him. And as I prepared to walk out back in the rain a little old lady entered and said to our patron: 'I want my money. You owe me money which you took from my house. . .' 'Get out! Get out! She's crazy, she's crazy!' he shouted out. Something told me she wasn't. Sleaze. Shame. Sadness. And s**t. That's what you'll get from a visit to Carib L'Afrique. For Harrod's prices.

I found it delicious, but the portions way too small. Ended up paying so much for very little. I'm still disappointed from this experience because the price didn't matched the quality. Just making a little effort in making it more generous could change a lot. I was still hungry after :/ Except from that, the owner of the restaurant was very kind and loved talking.

Staff were welcoming and polite. Ordered the jerk chicken rice and peas and curry goat and jellof rice. Both rices and the curry were really tasty. Unfortunately we were unimpressed with the jerk chicken had no Smokey flavour from the coals like authentic jerk was a little bland and came in sauce almost like a chicken stew definitely wasn’t worth the £7 odd

Thoroughly enjoyed the goat curry with jallof rice, delicious home made coleslaw and tasty plantains. My partner enjoyed the seabass with rice and peas. Just what we needed on a cold winter’s Saturday afternoon! Highly recommended 🥰

Me and my partner drove 35 minutes to come here for lunch. The service was outstanding and food was amazing. Will definitely be come back. Such a shame it wasn’t busy as the owner deserves recognition for this great restaurant. If you come here you will not be disappointed.

3 1/2 hours delivery time!!??? REALLY!??? This restaurant is sooo sneaky that they kept moving the delivery time later and later, so if I cancel I cant get a refund! The food FINALLY came freezing cold and has gone straight in the bin. DISGUSTING SERVICE AND I WILL NEVER USE THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN!!!!

We came to Hastings for the day out and the food was amazing, I ordered the goat curry rice and peas, honey wings, jerk wings, plantain and coleslaw we also had the jerk chicken aswell with rice and peas. We highly recommend you come here and when we visit Hastings again this will be the only place we eat. The service was 10/10 and the people were lovely! I wish they were in my town! We ordered our food online really late and spoke to the owner. Who had just closed the shop but regardless of that excepted our order and went back to open it and make our food. He was an absolute legend. Picked up the food, place was such a pretty vibe. Owner made and gave us the food, he was so nice. Didn’t have any puff puff but he gave us this delicious patty instead 🤤😋 I’m still daydreaming about it. We stayed at a hotel so there weren’t many places open, but he made our night. Food was still steaming hot when we got back, without insulation only a bag and the containers they came in. 10/10 Food tatse wise, would defo recommend. If we’d had the time we would’ve dinned in there. But at least we know now for future. Thank you for accepting our order ♥️

The owner and our host was fantastic! His service was exceptional and made great recommendations for us after inquiring where we were from and what we would like to try! The goat curry was outstanding, the plantains heavenly, the spiced chicken brought back memories of sailing in the windward islands,and the Joffre rice was superb! He even made us a special tropical juice that was a dessert in itself and perfectly complimented the meal! Great value too! 10/10 would/will definitely dine here again!

Real authentic African cuisine!! I stayed in Hastings for a week and during my visit I ate at the Carib De L’ Afrique several times, and each time was never disappointed!! Every meal I had was full of flavour, not to mention their homemade chilli sauce which I highly recommend getting alongside any of their dishes. I look forward to eating here again :D

This place is an absolute over priced let down. Small portion of microwaved rice despite taking from a huge container full of rice n peas, On top of this the Rice had burnt chunks to it. Small portion curry goat sauce with a few under cooked potato's carrots and i guess goat, Bland tasting no heat with layer of oil on top. I'm guessing my idea of Rum Punch and the restaurants idea are two different things being served fruit juice mixed with rum. Being of Caribbean decent myself growing up on our food and drink this was absolutely shocking and almost angering thinking of how over priced this essentially below basic home cooked food is and what a bad light it again puts under our culture and food. Not going to lie owner should be ashamed and just call it a day.

Terrible food, service and management, We complained to the owner about the food and were not refunded only after eating a minimal amount of food. This is by no means Caribbean food! Prices are ridiculously high and for no good reason. Avoid this restaurant.

we came to Hastings for day out and were pleasantly surprised to find a African-Caribbean restaurant as i'm of Jamaican descent however i was really disapointed with the quality and price of the food. we came in and was greeted by the young lady who worked at the front and was very nice and hospitable to us . After we ordered she let us know we had to pay before getting the food because some people had left without paying but by the end i understood why but i gave the benefit of the doubt which i shouldn't have . When the food came they forgot me and my wife's veggie curry and just gave us the rice because we were obviously going to sit there and just eat a bowl of rice and the young lady who served us had to go back and tell the cooks to pay attention to the order. My sons got there 'jerk chicken' however it was very clearly stew chicken however they did enjoy it but if we order something and mind you its not cheep we expect what we ordered and finally we ordered a callaloo patty which clearly wasn't callaloo but the cooks behind tried to say it was when it clearly wasn't , in the end they put the curry back in the microwave and it was horrible we also had to call the owner to come and check if it was a callaloo patty and mind you ive been eating calaloo patty's all my life the owner claimed it said callaloo on the box . Finally , the patty was refunded however the veggie curry was terrible and the chicken was good but we ordered jerk chicken not stew chicken and for jerk chicken rice , a veggie curry and a patty it came to £51 for some mediocre food but we were so dissapointed we didn't protest. in conclusion, only come here if you want a patty or drinks not for a meal .

Just dire - on a visit from London and had high hopes - terrible 😞 very expensive sun standard food. Asked to pay up front as people were walking out! Now I know why. Served dry microwaved rice but no veg curry ! Had to wait ages for the curry to come and when it did it was not good. The young girl serving was doing her best but this was obviously a regular thing. Served a hard patty which was supposed to be callaloo but was a light brown paste? It’s completely over priced and I don’t think it will be around for long - do not eat here

The best Caribbean and African food in town!!! Located in town centre ,you cannot miss the place ,let the soulful music and delicious scent of African food guide you. You will be greated in most welcoming and friendly manner , owner will recommend most delicious dishes to suit your palate. Their rum punch is amazing but personally I recommend their freshly blended juice called 'Mad Mix' ,it brings back most beautiful memories from my holidays in the Caribbean. In terms of food I would recommend all their dishes, there is so much to choose from as they also have great Vegan options on the menu . My personal favourites are jerk chicken, honey wings , brown chicken stew, spinach stew, jollof rice and rice and peas. You can taste the love that has been put into the food .

Worst Caribbean food I have ever tasted. Rice and peas looked like dogs dinner tasted absolutely horrible. Big mess it went straight in the bin. Paid £40 plus for a meal that ended up in the bin. I would have taken pictures but I couldn’t stand the smell let alone look at it. Absolutely disappointed this is a mockery should be closed down or stick to African food instead. Worst worst worst food EVER!!!! The plantain looks like they use half a plaintain and cut into tiny pieces absolute yuk, coleslaw was warm and tasted sour it should have been kept in the fridge before delivery. Would not be ordering from you ever again

Delicious food in a welcoming, convivial environment. We had the sea bass and goat curry, both served with jollof rice, which were a perfect blend of the Caribbean and West Africa. The interior decor is very creative, capturing the ambience of both regions. Highly recommended.

Ordered a portion of rice and peas and curry goat, with jerk chicken overall the food was okay however, the jerk chicken was not jerk whatsoever tasted like just seasoned chicken, food was a bit overpriced. Didn’t have the authentic oxtail Jamaican dish. Chef/waitress was very abrupt.

Ordered a variety of dishes.. classic goat curry and jerk chicken with jollaf rice and rice and peas.. Best goat curry I've had! Only comment is would have preferred more of a spice kick but that's a personal preference.

This place is amazing, we had the vegan patty, bean stew, spinach stew, rice and peas, and plantain, was all delicious! The rum punch was also banging. Service was great and made for a lovely evening out.

Awful place. Ordered a delivery and after repeatedly calling an hour after we ordered and being told it was on it's way nothing arrived. Totally dodgy place and ruined the last night of our holiday.

Was tasty and much as I expected from this restaurant. However disappointed that the goat curry has gone down in quality since I had it previously There were no bones in my curry; not as much Scotch Bonnet, yes thyme but just a bit 🫤

What a fabulous place! The food was amazing! The ambience inside the restaurant was relaxing, with wonderful music that just adds to the whole experience. I had the brown stew chicken, with rice and peas and fried plantain. I also had some fruit punch which was non alcoholic. (alcohol is available for those that desire it). My whole meal was both delicious and filling. Will be visiting again the next time I'm down in Hastings! Highly recommend you try this place whether living in the area or just visiting like myself.

Went to there pier location food and service was perfect if you want guyanese curry they make it perfectly. My Nan use to make it the exact same way. So glad I can still get guyanese curry now that she is gone. Thanks for the service the food really took me back to my nans kitchen.
