Lovely restaurant, atmosphere was amazing, and food was top tier!! Definitely coming again

Myself and my husband, had a delicious meal here. The food was very tasty…. Lots of layered flavours, without excessive heat. The owner was very knowledgable and obviously passionate about food. A particular highlight was the Jollof Rice, and Beef with Spinach Stew.

Superb Caribbean and African food. Well cook and very flavoursome. Host passionate about his food and helpful. Going back tomorrow for lunch!

This was a really great meal, friendly helpful service and super tasty food! We had lunch: Jerk chicken, veggie curry with butternut squash, jollof rice, rice and beans and some slaw. Left very full and very happy!

A Hidden Gem of African Caribbean Flavours!!! I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by warm, friendly staff who made us feel right at home. The atmosphere was vibrant and welcoming, setting the perfect tone for what turned out to be an exceptional meal. I ordered a spinach and beef was rich, flavourful, and oh so tender, It had just the right balance of spice. Paired this with smokey jollof rice which was perfectly seasoned and carried a delicious, subtle charred aroma, the meal was nothing short of mouthwatering. To top it off my the cocktails were on point! Fresh and fruity! Both alcoholic and non alcoholic were great! If you’re looking for bold flavours, genuine hospitality, and a true taste of African/Caribbean food this spot is a must! I’ll definitely be coming back for more!!!! 🫶🏼

You have to experience it yourself. This being one of the first I’ve been to in the area, it’s truly amazing how many people don’t know about it. Seriously, if you’re in Hastings and want some Afro-Carribean, come here. Even if you don’t want some, try it at least! This place does it best

Deliciously fresh food, truly authentic and amazing flavours. Arrived hungry, left fully satisfied! Get the Guinness punch, it’s yummy. Had a lovely chat with the owner who was super friendly, it’s a great vibe in there and you can tell they care about their customer’s having a good experience. Highly recommend!

I came in and tried the jerk chicken and Jollof rice for lunch, really delicious as well as fresh and homemade. Really friendly and helpful staff too, will definitely be coming back.

Without exaggeration, the best meal I have eaten in 2025 was the spinach and beef stew. The jollof rice was amazing. Incredible. Wonderful, friendly service. Would give 10 stars if possible.

The food was reheated from the freezer, with a very hard meat. Portion are very small even for children. The staff refuse to give extra sauce. I advice people to Avoid that place. It’s a rip off. It’s a scam.

Wanted to grab some lunch in Hastings and this caught my eye. Fast service from a friendly waitress who described the dishes well. They came quite quickly and were delicious. Well spiced, although for me not enough and asked for and got a small dish of extra-hot and very delicious chilli sauce. Would make a beeline there if I were in Hastings for lunch again. Had goat curry and Jallop rice.

I have often brought my friends and family to this venue on their visits - and we are never disappointed. The food is fantastic and includes one of our favourites - the legendary goat curry! The host is cheery and friendly and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. Over my many visits the quality has never waned - and I am sure we will continue to visit this great establishment!

Lovely host and setting, but overall the food lacked any punch and the portions were on the small side. Obviously, establishments have their own recipes, but for us the Jerk chicken was very different to other Jamaican Jerk. No taste of Scotch Bonnet or allspice and a very thin, soy sauce type, sauce. It comes as two small pieces of chicken on the bone, so portion size didn't feel like good value. The plantain was tasty but came as tiny pieces (quartered slices) in a small ramekin, so again didn't feel like good value. Goat curry was tasty, and a better portion size, but didn't pack the real spicy punch which I'd hoped for. Enjoyed the Jollof rice, which overall was probably the most tasty dish.

This is a true gem of an establishment. Authentic African and Caribbean food which is perfectly cooked. I had the vegetarian bean stew with rice and peas. The home made chili sauce is amazing. The owner was very friendly and he definitely knows what he is doing when it comes to the menu.

Food was 10/10 I’ve always walked past wanting to try it after trying one of the patties I had to try more and more I did the chicken is juicey and falls right if the bone would recommend to everyone service is 10/10

Thank you to Bayo and his stuff for making my mums birthday soo special. Such great food that can be tailored to everyone’s palates. I love my food spicy and he accommodated for that. Whilst my niece hates spice. We explained that to the staff and were so surprised by how much we loved the food and how quickly they tailored it to us . If you are in the area craving Caribbean or African food please give this a try. Or if you’d like to try Caribbean/ African food for the first time it is a great place to start. The service is amazing and the vibes are high. If we are in the area we will definitely be back !!!

After a gruelling long shift I was in desperate need of a good meal before heading back for the second half of my shift. I decided to pop into Carib De L'Afrique in Hastings, and it turned out to be just what I needed. From the moment I stepped in, the warm and vibrant atmosphere immediately lifted my spirits. The decor, with its rich African influence, was inviting and colourful, setting the perfect backdrop for what promised to be an enjoyable dining experience. The menu offered a delightful array of traditional Caribbean and African dishes, and I was spoilt for choice. I finally settled on the goat curry, which was cooked off the bone to suit the preference of European customers. I must say, it was nothing short of delicious. The curry was rich and aromatic, with tender pieces of goat that practically melted in the mouth. The rice and peas that accompanied it were flavourful and well-cooked, making for a thoroughly satisfying meal. The portions were generous, which was much appreciated given the long hours ahead. The service was equally commendable. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure that everything was to my liking without being overbearing. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in both the quality of the food and the overall experience. In all, Carib De L'Afrique provided me with a much-needed break and a taste of home-cooked comfort in the midst of a hectic day. Whether you're a fan of Caribbean cuisine or just looking for a hearty, satisfying meal in Hastings, I’d highly recommend giving this place a try.

We were looking forward to eating here and certainly not disappointed- the food is delicious, authentic and tasty, the restaurant has a lovely vibe and the staff are so friendly and helpful. I only wish this place was in my doorstep!

Really disappointed with our recent order.For £42 and only 4 dishes we expected a high quality meal and good portion sizes.The beef stew was flavourless and tiny almost pea sized bits of meat throughout the stew.The jerk chicken we ordered 2 portions of as we knew from past experience you are only given 2 pieces of chicken per £8 dish!When we last tried it it was worth the price at a push.But this was again flavourless and the chicken skin was flabby.The curry goat again had such a small amount of meat in it would not have been sufficient for one person let alone 2!And we aren't a greedy or over eating couple.I had to make cous cous at home to go along side the food (I never ordered rice as I expected it to be too much with the dishes we ordered.Even with chinese & indian takeaways we don't order rice as its too filling) and I added nandos sauce and beef stock to this meal so basically cooked for myself and it tasted awful & cost £42.Not acceptable!Won't order from here again.

Was a little disappointed they didn’t sell jackfruit anymore but got to try new dish’s that pleasantly surprised my tastebuds! Partner and I visited while on holiday in Hastings and wow. Beautiful lay out, great music, very chilled vibe, lovely helpful service from the lady who knew her stuff for sure and most of all incredible food. Hands down one of my fav places I’ve eaten in years. Also to add my partner is vegan and was very well catered for.

Shocking!! This place is not value for money & the food is terrible! I went yesterday to have lunch. They do a deal for £10. I added an extra piece of chicken for £4 as they said the normal portion isn’t that big. When I got my meal it wasn’t even edible, and it got chucked straight in the bin. The rice was cooked wiv an inch of its life. It was like mush! They obviously freeze the meals & re-heat them. The chicken was seriously burnt, the sauce was oily water, tasteless. I was given no salad which was meant to be included. And also paid extra for more chicken which I didn’t get. £15 for that meal is not value for money. 3 tiny pieces of chicken & very poor rice. If been to the Caribbean many times & eaten in a lot of the same places & it’s been the worst ever! I also complained & was asked to bring the meal back if I want a refund. After sending the pictures over & then I get blocked by them. Terrible

Friendly staff nice restaurant. Food was cooked okay but tiny portions and had no spice ! Flavour was nice but incredibly mild wouldn't call it jerk chicken. My toddler could eat it no problem which says it all 😅

Absolutely delicious goat curry with rice and peas, best I have tasted in a long time. Not too spicy but full of flavour. Great portion size and perfect flavours. I have picked up a take away menu and am looking forward to trying other dishes.

The atmosphere and food here is amazing! Me and my friend kept seeing this place and loved its vibe so we finally decided to go in and it did not disappoint! The people are really friendly, the whole place is so colourful and the music is always so good! The food was really flavourful and delicious! Absolutely wild find in Hastings. Superb and authentic Jamaican and Nigerian cuisine. And I mean superb!!!!!! Caramelised Plantains are so good they ought to be illegal. The home made chilli sauce is hot, balanced and the kind you wish you could buy bottled to take home with you. For a culinary treat, pop in sometime. You'll be hooked.

Amazing! I came in to this restaurant to try it out because I loved the decor, I was then thrilled with an amazing meal and un-beatable service, we were instantly made to feel at home. The food was bursting with flavour and I would 100% recommend everyone to try. Fantastic all round :)

Amazing vibes and super friendly service when we visited - instantly got chatting like old friends and owner even gave us a list of local recs for things to do in Hastings. Do bear in mind the jerk chicken they have is saucy but it melted off the bones + was amazingly seasoned so we found it great. Dessert was luscious too! Wish the plantain portion was larger but this could be biased with my passion for plantains! Will visit again and thank you!

The two stews were good, we asked if there was an African bread and they brought us a slice of bread for toast which was valued at 2 Pounds on the bill. Bottles of beer are overpriced.

Absolutely loved the food at Carib De L’Afrique. We called in over the Bank Holiday Easter weekend. The owner was extremely helpful, I am Vegan and he explained that they had many vegan meals, I had the chickpea, Potato and coconut curry which was superb, you can just tell how fresh the ingredients were, their plantains are scrumptious ! My husband and Son both had meat curries and they loved them too. The restaurant is spotless, so bright and cheery, the music playlist creates a real vibe. I would highly recommend Carib De L’Afrique, they have everything ❤️🎶😀

This is one of our favourite restaurants in Hastings however it was the first time we dined in. The food was fabulous as always and we went with the owners recommendation but I did insist on the goat curry. Well worth a visit.

We ended up here with no prior plan, and we're very glad we did! Food was delicious and very different to what I'd had. Bayo was very friendly, welcoming and suggested plenty of recommendations. He even went as far as tweaking some of the food for us :) Felt like we were visiting a family friend rather than a restaurant. It is more of 'home-cooking' vibe rather than a 'restaurant' alone. Ordered a takeaway at 6:00 pm for 7:00 delivery. Finally arrived at 8:30. £68+ order. Small portions of okayish food. Definitely not value for money! Offered a £5 discount on next order. There will not be a next order!

This place is beyond the standard of expectation. The food is all made on premises, never frozen, and always fresh. The atmosphere is very ambient and the restaurant owners are a lovely couple who are always very welcoming and hospitable. Do NOT miss this hidden Hastings gem.

This place was incredible. I spent some time in Battle/Bexhill/Hastings area and wanted to try something different from fish and chips! Came across this place from a recommendation from a taxi driver and it did not disappoint at all. A lovely vibrant restaurant that is true to its USP... Caribbean and African food. It was home away from home, reminded me of the food I ate growing up and still enjoy in my adulthood. Highly recommend. Owner is friendly and there's always good music playing. It was an enjoyable experience I came twice over 2 consecutive days.

Horrible owner, horrible restaurant, disgusting attitude and not one ounce of community spirit! The owner sets up a speaker outside his restaurant blasting music despite many locals pleading with him to stop. He's free to play whatever music he likes inside his restaurant but obviously the food is not up to the mark if he has to resort to creating a loud nuissance to attract attention, he's so tight he doesn't even spring for Spotify premium so we all have to listen to the Ad's,

I do not usually write bad reviews about independent businesses, as they struggle today and it feels vindictive to put the extra knife in. I also think people should go find out for themselves about places. But a visit to Carib L'Afrique left me with a feeling like humiliation after dining there, as I walked away considering - while all the while knowing - I'd been totally swindled. The restaurant is small and was previously a fast food stop, but there has been a tatty tropical makeover suggesting a beach bar in sunny Hastings. The chairs and tables have been bundled in there and you're packed in trying to soak up the reggae and enjoy restaurant luxury, but can't completely forget this used to be the waiting area in a chicken shop where drunks brawled and shouted. But I'm a Londoner, I like my Caribbean food, and I decided to give it a try anyway. At the cocktail shack in the corner is the owner, broad-shouldered and broadly smiling, with an Idi Amin suggestion of affability and danger. Every inquiry fluidly answered with extra oiliness - 'We've got the best Caribbean food on the south coast. People travel all the way up from London for it.' It must be good then, I thought. I waited an age. Downed two Red Stripes. Listened to the owner's chronicles of culinary glory. Then after forty minutes came my dumplings, goat curry and rice. Which looked bland, or rather, drab; as drab as the rainy coastal high street outside the window, and as bland as the mimicry of the Caribbean I sat amongst. It was an uneventful meal, ate with no passion, though I was starved. I had no idea of the horrors which would be visited upon my bum later in the evening. I couldn't wait to get out of there. 'Certainly, sir,' or something to that effect, he said when I asked for the bill, assured I'd just enjoyed my food. Horror. Nearly sixty pounds for two beers, a curry and dumplings. I felt nostalgic for the kebab house and chippies I'd passed before getting here. 'It's a bit dear, eh?' I protested. 'For Harrods food you pay Harrods prices,' he answered, towering above me. I paid. Feeling as disgusted with myself as I was with him. And as I prepared to walk out back in the rain a little old lady entered and said to our patron: 'I want my money. You owe me money which you took from my house. . .' 'Get out! Get out! She's crazy, she's crazy!' he shouted out. Something told me she wasn't. Sleaze. Shame. Sadness. And s**t. That's what you'll get from a visit to Carib L'Afrique. For Harrod's prices.

I found it delicious, but the portions way too small. Ended up paying so much for very little. I'm still disappointed from this experience because the price didn't matched the quality. Just making a little effort in making it more generous could change a lot. I was still hungry after :/ Except from that, the owner of the restaurant was very kind and loved talking.

Thoroughly enjoyed the goat curry with jallof rice, delicious home made coleslaw and tasty plantains. My partner enjoyed the seabass with rice and peas. Just what we needed on a cold winter’s Saturday afternoon! Highly recommended 🥰

Staff were welcoming and polite. Ordered the jerk chicken rice and peas and curry goat and jellof rice. Both rices and the curry were really tasty. Unfortunately we were unimpressed with the jerk chicken had no Smokey flavour from the coals like authentic jerk was a little bland and came in sauce almost like a chicken stew definitely wasn’t worth the £7 odd

Me and my partner drove 35 minutes to come here for lunch. The service was outstanding and food was amazing. Will definitely be come back. Such a shame it wasn’t busy as the owner deserves recognition for this great restaurant. If you come here you will not be disappointed.
