We had a great lunch here with 3children and they were all well provided for. The veggie roast was lovely and they made sure the gravy was veggie too. The specials looked amazing too. The staff were all lovely and attentive. Win was especially lovely and kind. Thank you all. There were clean plates all round.

Some dog-walking friends and I have been coming to the jolly Farmer on and off over the past few years and have enjoyed our lunches there. However, we met up yesterday (Sunday) and found that the new Sunday menu is either bar snacks or two courses for £25 or three courses for £31. This was way above our budget and not what we were looking for. We just wanted the amazing fish and chips they do or a burger - not a full-blown lunch experience. So, I am just writing to say it is a shame that "casual" dining is not possible on a Sunday currently. The six of us, who would each have eaten if there had been a £15 or so option, went elsewhere, and separately, for our lunches which was a shame. I did notice that, although the garden seemed busy, fewer tables than previously had food.

We took a flier to meet family half way between us. It was an excellent decision. Apparently The Jolly Farmer is under new management. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating, the menu had a great selection, the food and desert were delicious. I am very happy to recommend The Jolly Farmer as a lunch venue.

This is a short drive out of Guilford in a country setting, here's what you can expect.. Astectics: This is a quaint pub with traditional oak beams and rustic charm with a touch of urban sophistication. You'll be sure of a warm welcome here, dog friendly with plenty of dog bowls to keep your pooch happy. Only wished we had a dog to take. Food: We opted for a burger, but this wasn't any old burger it was The Jolly Farmer burger. This was unbelievably scrumptious. I added a slice of bacon to mine from the extras. Good quality ingredients cooked fresh which the local butcher had just delivered. The fries had their skins and what I can only describe as having a touch of sea salt crystals on them. I have never tasted such amazing fries like it. Now I'm not going to compare the quality to pringles but you know that urge that once you start you can't stop, well it's the same with these fries but better. We had oinion rings to share which were perfecto, again perfectly executed. There was 3 of us at this meal all different tastes but on this occasion we all chose the same meal and all came to the 5* opinion. Complements to the chef/s! Unfortunately we didn't have room for a desert but maybe next time. Upon leaving we noticed a large BBQ area which has to be worth a try and I've heard the Sunday roast is second to none. We'll just have to visit again soon from the Midlands.

Had Sunday lunch here after a walk on the common. What a wonderful find! Gorgeous pub, lovely garden with comfy furniture. Friendly, energetic and efficient staff. We had the carvery, and all four of us agreed it was one of the best roasts we’ve ever had. Prices are sensible for decent food at a smart pub. They don’t charge ridiculous prices for drinks, which is refreshing. Though we are not immediately local (35 mins drive) we will most definitely be back soon! I understand from other reviews that the current management is quite new. I hope they keep up these standards. If they do, you soon won’t be able to get a table here for love nor money. Many thanks for a lovely afternoon and extremely full and satisfied tummies (including the dog, who happily received a little bowl of beef trimmings).

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch recently. Both of us had the chicken which was cooked perfectly. Roast potatoes nice and crispy and the Yorkshire was huge. (Way too big for me!) the vegetables was ok, but it would have been nice to have some cabbage or broccoli, but that’s just my taste. (We didn’t like the stuffing, sorry) Service was lovely! Thank you. If I could give one piece of advice, maybe choose larger plates for the roast as it was rather squashed and food fell off when trying to cut. Overall, a pleasant Sunday roast and we look forward to returning to try their weekday food. Thank you.

This place has gone so downhill in the past few months!! We used to come as a family in the summer and loved it, food and drink was great. It’s now under new management and has certainly taken a turn for the worst! Came in over the last few weeks and were presented with a bar with little to no stock both times - it was absolutely shocking. Practically no beer and no bar snacks. Staff seem untrained and pretty clueless. Food is also very mediocre and poor quality; nothing special and not worth the money. Such a shame. Avoid like the plague!!

Visited at 1.0 clock in the afternoon of Easter Saturday. The pub had one draft beer available having run out of all other beers and lagers . The fridges were empty and they were serving Coca Cola from 2 litre plastic bottles which ran out very quickly. No fish and chips ( a pub staple) available and payment with exact cash (ie no change available) or card only. This was the start of a sunny bank holiday weekend and to visit a pub which had no beer available was frankly unbelievable. Won’t be going back

My parents and I had Mother’s Day lunch but was cold inside, the food however was great , the beef was top quality and very tender. The quality of the food is very good but mum was cold inside. We came last month and it was nice and warm so that’s a bit odd? I spoke to the manager who seemed very helpful and kind , he went to get the fire place going again as they lacked logs and even offered to arrange a table for us near it , my parents appreciated the kind gesture. They need to fix their heating even though warmer days are around the corner. All in all good food and amazing quality beef.

This pub has had an interesting few years. The previous owner ran it to the ground financially, but the staff and food were always good. It was then taken over and was atrocious! The current landlord took over in October and is trying to improve things. Our food this afternoon was good. We had a Jolly Burger and a chicken burger, and they were both lovely, although slightly overpriced to be honest. The pub wasn't busy for a Friday early evening but considering it's out of the way, that's understandable. The staff are great. Jess, the bar manager was lovely; friendly and welcoming. The wine was very expensive though - 10 quid a glass is a bit extreme for a country pub! All in all, we would go back and I would urge people to visit. A pub is only as good as its patrons, and the fact that the locals drink there regularly says it all.

We have eaten here many times but this weekend the experience was very disappointing. The food was so poor. Our burgers were ok but were served on a plate with a handful of overcooked french fries and that was it. No salad, no garnish and the fries were so hard they were inedible. The lentil soup came with 2 slices of cheap white bread (no butter) My grandsons fish bites and fries were ok but my partners steak & cheese baguettes was awful. The bread was so hard it crumpled into dust so it couldn’t be eaten like a sandwich. The staff are lovely but serving food which is over priced when such poor quality.

It was the worst most inedible Sunday lunch I have ever had in a pub. We only had a main course of the roast beef.It was so overdone and tough and full of gristle. We were the first Sunday customers at 12.10am and we had asked for pink / medium rare beef it was horrible. ...way over well done, tough & full of gristle...it was the first Sunday lunch order so should have been good & fresh!! The Sunday menu is very limited = 3 roasts (beef & Turkey & Vegetarian) ; or fish & chips or burgers or bangers & mash The wine list is a total joke...I have never seen one like it in 50 years = 5 reds & 5 whites. The descriptions are grapes only = Merlot, Malbec ., Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc. No descriptions at all ...no country or vintage given. Amazing Faulty Towers experience. Mixed bag. Went with my friends for a catch-up lunch at 12:15 on bank holiday, they were quiet to start and service was attentive, but way too attentive. We had been there for 5 mins and got asked twice about drinks. Then immediately after we were asked about food, we weren’t ready but got asked another 2 times. I think we had 3 different waitresses who didn’t communicate to each other. We ordered some halloumi fries to start which come with a lovely sweet chilli dip, 2 portions between 4 people was perfect, they were lovely. For mains we ordered two chicken burgers, one jolly burger and a fish and chips. The chicken burgers were quite dry, but the chicken was cooked well. The salad on all the dishes was wilted and clearly not fresh. The fish was cooked well but not so much with the batter. The burger was nice too but again wilted salad. Chips were good. We all left some food on our plates. But they were good with giving us extra sauces without question or charge which was really nice. The plates were cleared and we were asked about desserts, again we were asked 2 more times if we wanted anything else but we’re still finishing our drinks. Would have been happy to be asked to move to the bar area to give up the table but the constant asking made us leave quicker than we’d have liked. The food was fairly nice but the constant attention from the staff was just way too much. I understand the turnover demands for a bank holiday but that wasn’t communicated to us if they needed the table. And it wasn’t that busy there were a good few spare tables indoors. It’s not nice to be constantly interrupted in conversation and feel so rushed for something that is supposed to be enjoyable. I’d go back here for a sandwhich and pint and chips but probably nothing more.

As a regular here I tend to be with friends, hubby and our dogs who are always made to feel welcome. Phil and his team make us feel welcome, he comes and has a chat with us as he does with as many patrons as he can. This gives the pub such a friendly vibe. For those that report issues and give the pub low scores could generally be improved if these people spoke with staff at the time - thus giving them the opportunity to correct an issue or find a way to recompense with a suitable resolution.Yes, there probably are "better" pubs around, but if you are looking for a really friendly atmosphere, hear laughter, watch dogs playing, have a normally good meal and a drink then this is perfect.

I have visited this establishment many times over the last few months, on different days and can confirm it’s sadly not worth the bother. The last time was on a Sunday and the incredibly overpriced roast was shocking. The beef was almost blue, the potatoes were soggy and the vegetables undercooked. The fishwife chef screaming at her young staff kind of added to the wholeambiance of the place. This place could be amazing with the right people in charge. The staff are lovely young ladies and very attentive and polite but the manager stands outside with a clipboard directing customers inside towards clearly untrained teenagers. Everyone looks stressed and frazzled. The manager needs to train the staff, sack the shouty chef and reduce the menu. A half decent cook could manage to produce a homemade vegan curry and a burger so why buy in? The pub itself is beautiful and the garden is too. There is a lovely patio with real vines to enjoy but the food is seriously overpriced and when you have 8 drafts advertised but only 2 producing beer, it’s time to realise you need to up your game. To run out of a simple staple such as Pinot Grigio is appalling really, especially when you know you’ll be busy. Sainsbury’s is only round the corner! To summarise- visit the pub but don’t expect much. The food is heavily fried and basic and the staff, although lovely, need support from above.

My partner and I visited the Jolly Farmer in worplesdon on Christmas Eve - a lovely pub which we haven’t been to in over 5 years! The interior of the pub looked lovely and the Christmas decorations really lifted the spirits! We were quickly seated by daisy who further recommended the charcuterie board which was very tasty and great value for money! We are looking forward to join you again in the new year.

Visited this pub on many occasions, very warm welcome, friendly, helpful staff, brilliant landlord/owner. Food is always excellent, large portions and good value for money. Always come away with a new tin cup which the condiments are served in, compliments of the owner.

If I could give this pub 10 stars I would! Quintessential English country pub, welcoming and warm both in ambience and staff. My family and I visited on a busy Sunday afternoon and were not disappointed by the quality of service and delicious food! I had the turkey roast, piled high with tender meat, the Yorkshire pudd was light and crispy, the veggies were plentiful - shout out to the broccoli/cauli in cheese sauce - and the desserts were to die for. Sticky toffee pudding and creamy custard was my favourite, but I stole a sneaky spoonful of the cheesecake and lemon tart from my other family members and they were equally as good! If you're looking for the perfect Sunday afternoon lunch you can't go far wrong here. Highly recommend.

I reserved a table for Sunday lunch as my daughter was visiting from New Jersey, and I wanted to take the rest of my family for Sunday lunch without having to cook it myself! The Jolly Farmer has been my local for 38 years and, although they were incredibly busy, they still managed to offer superb service and, as usual, the food was fantastic and did not disappoint in any way. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming so the whole experience was delightful. In my opinion, they fully deserve 5 stars.

We have eaten in the Jolly Farmer a number of times over the years and I will say they Sunday roast is usually a great option but this time we felt let down by the food and the service. We arrived mid way through the lunch service and I would say it was busy but not overly busy but it still took 30 minutes before our food order was taken, after taking the order the waitress had to come back a couple of times and change orders due to the kitchen running out of food, when it arrived the quantity on each plate was inconsistent, some people had a couple of slices of meat others had 4 or 5 and we were given a small bowl of vegetables between 6 of us and a splash of gravy on each plate, when we requested extra vegetables we were begrudgingly given a second even smaller bowl of veg and a jug of gravy. After the meal we had to wait an hour for someone to take our pudding order and when the puddings arrived they were spread out across a half hour time frame so we didn't eat them at the same time, one didn't turn up at all and we had to chase that one up which was eventually delivered to us. The waitress didn't see unduly bothered and offered no apology or explanation for the problems or delays. Normally a great choice for a meal, this time we left disappointed on this occasion.

We went as a family for a roast. The food was average, the door was left open so it was cold and draughty. The table was sticky even after it had been cleaned. Staff pleasant and helpful.

I’ve been going to the Jolly Farmer since moving into the area almost 20 years ago, it’s a great country pub but the current Managment and team are amazing. Friendly, welcoming, it’s a pub with a great selection of drinks and bar snacks, and it’s somewhere you can go whatever the weather; sit inside by the open fire in winter, outside on the weatherproof patio in the wind & rain or in the garden in the sunshine. If you aren’t local, I recommend parking up, going for a walk In Whitmoor Common and treating yourself afterwards, but you need to book in advance if you want an amazing Sunday Lunch!

I often meet up with my family and they're children for dog walks and we love popping into the jolly. Great friendly atmosphere, the kids love they're Ice cream treat. Good choice of ales. Phil the landlord is such a lovely person. Takes time to wander around making everyone feel welcome. Even in the winter the warmth of the log fire is always a joy. Over the years I have seen how well the garden is kept. Treats for the dogs and Sunday roast is a must. Thank you Phil and your staff, always a pleasure visiting here.

My wife booked us in to meet a couple of friends for a meal early on a Sunday evening, booking accepted and we were asked to arrive for 5.30pm. Our friends arrived first, coming from a fair distance only to be told the kitchen was closed.Nice.Fortunately managed to get a table elsewhere but thanks for the wasted time and petrol. All a bit shabby really.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch today at this pub. The staff always work so hard and are so attentive. It was lovely that Debbie recognised us from a few weeks ago and greeted us warmly- despite how busy it was. The food was as usual wonderful. Many thanks.

We booked to go to the Jolly Farmer, Worplesdon for a Sunday roast and from the minute we got there were welcomed by the incredibly friendly staff. We were in a group and all ordered different varieties of roast dinner, despite them running out of yorkshire puddings as they had been so busy, they offered us extra roast potatoes and vegetables. The food was amazing as was the service both behind the bar and at our table. What a fantastic pub, well done to Phil the Landlord for having such a professional team. Would definitely return.....

It was Sunday and the pub was heaving. We’d booked a table and waited to be served. After 40 mins during which we had had to ask someone to take our drinks order and then again to take our food order, a waitress came and told us two of our meal options were unavailable. Hard faced and with an attitude that said “I don’t care if you stay or go” we cancelled our order and left. We went somewhere else, had a lovely meal and that pub has got the good review.Obviously other people have enjoyed good food and service at JF but not us on that day.

We visited the Jolly Farmer again on Saturday with friends (9 of us). We were warmly welcomed and seated under cover on the patio. The kids played happily in the large garden until the food came. Excellent food and half our group ordered from the Specials Board which had great variety so we were spoilt for choice. We will definitely be coming back soon and the thanks for a great lunch!

Worst all day breakfast we’ve ever had, not very hot, bacon like shoe leather, nothing like picture, fried eggs were ok! Coffee ok, but whole thing was expensive. Not worth it. Staff very surly, as if everything was too much and they didn’t want to be there.

Tenía dos americanos medianos y un croissant. Precio £ 9. 40 . El café no se podía beber durante al menos 10 minutos porque estaba demasiado caliente. Cuando era potable tenía muy poco sabor a café. Nuestra última visita. Cuando nos fuimos, el personal estaba ocupado, así que no me quejé.

BEM is a bit disappointing, the coffee, which is surely the main attraction is not great. only one variety offered and it's unremarkable.that said, it probably suits most people who likes lattes which drown much of the flavour anway. i recently went to the Packhouse where they serve Chimney fire coffee and it was excellent. Also BEM shuts at 4, which is pretty useless.
