Two roast dinners plus a pint...less than £20. I called at the Westholme Farm for two Sunday lunches to take out. They only serve a three-course meal eat-in. I headed off to the Jolly Bowman who were more accommodating to my request offering both sit-in & takeaway Sunday Lunches. A choice of beef, pork or chicken was available along with mince & dumplings all offered in various size portions, small, medium or large. The meals were delicious with two large portions of gravy separate. Highly recommended and the staff is very friendly. I will return this Sunday for the minc & dumplings.

Went there last weekend and witnessed some young lad being set upon by 3 other lads for no apparent reason, obviously he defended himself, decked one of his attackers and was then restrained by other people while the other two were still throwing punches at him,ive heard on the grapevine the single lad has been barred for life, don’t think the other 3 have tho,I’ll never go back in again !!!

A friend and I went in here for a bite to eat on a Tuesday night at around 7 o'clock. They serve food until 8.30 from Monday-Thursday. We both had steak and asked for medium rare. Unfortunately it was a bit overdone for us but nevertheless it was tasty. The chips were hot and well cooked, the mushrooms were delicious,,,all in all it was very nice and I would have it again. The barman was friendly and the wine was fine. It's well worth a visit. They have quite a varied menu but not too much.

Came for an early tea and I'm so glad we came the food was absolutely lovely. Starters were quite a size we had halloumi which was cooked to perfection and potato skins would give any Italians a run for their money. Mains were equally delicious, fish, pie both with lovely homemade chunky chips and a salad all portions huge and all very tasty, the kids meal was also very good. Great value for money and the blonde girl behind the bar was lovely. Will definitely be going back.

just been to the jolly bowman for lunch thought we would give it a try since it has been done out.well not much has changed it is still a horrible horrible horrible pub, there is no atmosphere at all it is so drab, we were sitting eating our dinner and all we could hear was a group sitting and every other word was the F word. well im sorry you just dont want that when you have paid for your lunch you want to sit and eat it and feel comfortable. it is not right as there is children there i would not want my grandchildren hearing that. im sorry if this sounds harsh but it is a true reflection of my sunday lunch so i will never set foot in there again.

So I thought that now they have started doing food we should go for tea, wish we hadn’t bothered. The food was very basic, which was a shame...I really wanted it to be more😔. The scampi came on what can be described as school dinner plates( real chips, not frozen tbf) but cold so presentation isn’t great. It was the atmosphere that really let it down, 6pm and there was no music on it was cold and not very welcoming. There were people smoking in the entrance doorway with the outer door closed. I wanted this to have improved, I gave it another chance but felt uncomfortable to be in there eating. Sorry won’t be returning.

I was hungry, the bar tender pointed out the menu on a table. Everything I asked for...and we are talking stotties and sandwiches not roast swan...was unavailable. I handed her the menu and told her to keep it behind the bar as it was pointless keeping it on show. Ended up eating crisps and nuts. Nothing Jolly!

We were visiting the North of the Tyne to go car browsing but decided to visit somewhere I hadn't been to for a long long time. It was a Saturday lunchtime and the attractive looking pub wasn't full by any means. The football was on on multiple screens but at a volume that didn't interrupt you chatting. We only wanted a quick drink and we're served two chilled and refreshing drinks. What impressed from the start was how friendly the Chef was. We both felt welcomed and comfortable which was a nice feeling. The seating is plentiful and there were adverts for Karaoke, disco and quiz nights, a Halloween night as well as reduced prices during Toon games, (I didn't mention my allegiance to the Black Cats). We spent a very pleasant half an hour and would definitely go back. The menus wasn't large but was reasonably priced. The only reason this visit didn't get 5 stars was a smell of bleach which we noticed as soon as we entered and the gents loo could do with updating.

Went to try the carvery today and I was surprised at how bad it was. The plates were cold, the meat was overcooked and a bit dry. The server used his hands to pick up the burnt Yorkshire pudding and the veg was over cooked with exception to the carrots which were fine. I'm not the kind to complain but I will not be visiting them again.

I took my daughter for our evening meal on Tuesday 31st March 15. We ordered a sharing platter for 'starters' and two meals from the 2 for £10 range. The barman then proceeded to bring us our main course and when I said we hadn't had our starters yet I was told "the chef says he has to cook it all together so I will bring that over next".. Er no .. the clue is in the name it's a starter - you know a first course!I asked him to take the main courses away and bring them back once we had completed the starters. I also said to make sure they were not all dried out and wizened. The platter was pretty nice and there was plenty of it.He did return what was obviously the same food but it didn't look too bad. However it was very disappointing. Note to chef quantity does not compensate for quality. To be fair I may have made the wrong choice with the New Yorker Chicken but it was absolutely smothered in a foul tasting BBQ sauce which despite being scraped off completely overpowered the entire plate with taste and smell. It was a bizarre experience to say the least. The ambience was ok but the music a little overpowering. The barman was the saving grace, he was friendly and polite and agreed that the food should not be served out of order but apparently Chef is always right!I will not return nor would I recommend this pub to anyone.

This is the first time we had visited The Jolly Bowman since it was refurbished and we were truly surprised by the quality of food on offer. My partner and I opted for a sharing starter followed by a mixed grill for him and a burger for me. The food was delicious and the only problem was that there was too much (we should have skipped the starter). Having frequented the pub not to far away in the past we will certainly be making this pub our new local :)

I used to visit here regularly and it was a nice well run pub (8-9 years ago).Since then it's went rapidly down hill and no wonder it's always empty.I visited one evening to watch the football and order some food. I waited 45 minutes for a chicken dish (despite being the only customer in the pub who'd ordered food) and when it eventually came it was easily the worst food I've ever seen in a food establishment. The chicken was rock solid, and even by applying force on a steak knife still couldn't cut through it. The chips were covered in grease and the whole aspect of service and quality simply doesn't exist here. The staff have little interest in the customers and you'd be better off walking a couple of minutes to the new Walls End pub which is 100 times better.

I have just returned from "The Jolly Bowman" after expecting a decent lunch with my friend. Ordered a toasted sandwich on brown bread, was told they don't do toasted sandwich, so we ordered cheese and tomato. Chef came to say he had no brown bread. We said we would have white bread. Sandwich arrived on dry stale bread, unbuttered, causing cheese to fall out all the time. Chips (at extra charge) were frozen and dry. There was no garnish whatsoever. Worst pub lunch I ever had in my long life. Avoid it please.

I'm not a restaurant critic, all I expect from a pub like this is good quality, wholesome, tasty food. Unfortunately the Jolly Bowman did not provide that!I've been before and they missed off the grilled tomato and when I asked why they told me they'd ran out! Which restaurant do you know of which runs out of a basic commodity like tomatoes? My most recent experience replicated the lack of tomato experience. Running out is not an option, particularly when main stream 24 hour supermarkets are close by.Then there is the "chip" test. A good quality chip is golden in appearance, crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle - just like the picture on the menu. The reality is that their chips are unpeeled potatoes cut into chunky chips, they are soggy and limp and a dark shade of brown - quite unlike the picture on the menu. The rest of the meal was average. That's it. We wont be eating there again until standards improve.

We have been going to Beaches & Cream for years and always love it. Today was really disappointing. We arrived at 2.30, nobody greeted us, we had to ask if we could sit down, there were several tables dirty despite 5 staff and lots of empty tables. When we approached the counter to order, we were told the kitchen was closed. You’d think they’d tell customers this before they sat down. One girl was taking orders and having to prepare the order and take it out, whilst 3 other visible staff were chatting, this caused unnecessary wait times. One waiter was hovering around tables, too close, making conversation uncomfortable. It was a really disappointing experience and not what we have come to expect from past experience, we travel over half an hour to go there and wish we hadn’t made the effort. I’m not sure why the kitchen closed so early, if we had known, we could’ve gone elsewhere, but more importantly, we should’ve been told as soon as we came in.

Came here whilst in the area . I had the mince and dumplings ( more gravy than mince , watery mash ) , my wife had the chicken and ham pie ( she wasn't impressed with that either) . When asked about the dessert list, I was told there's a menu on the bar , and basically, go get it yourself . I had the cheesecake, which was OK ( to much middle and not enough top to make the tast of the cheesecake stand out , the wife had the sponge with custard which the sponge was cold , obviously just heated up in the microwave . Will not go here ever again.
