The Joker in Brighton and Hove

We hired the upstairs at the Joker for a work event. The experience right from the start was fantastic, with the event staff being super helpful at all times. On the night the staff were amazing, with nothing being too much trouble, along with the fantastic food!!! Special mention to Joe who looked after us on the night, who made everything so relaxed for us!! Thank you, and we will definitely be booking again for future events.

The staff are amazing, as they could suggest a drink that I wouldn't have gone for. Next time I'm in this area, I'll head here!

Big trendy but welcoming pub. Lots of seating options with a roof terrace with pool & darts. We went on wing Wednesday & it was heaving but we easily found 2 bar seats. Not your traditional cheap wing Weds - 241 on regular portions which are £12.50 each. Delicious curly fries but again, felt expensive for £3.50 a portion when you know they are probably made much cheaper than that cost. All tasty though & loads of flavours to choose from! Hard when there's only 2 of you and it's probably 7/8 wings per portion! Took a little whole due to how busy it was. Would deffo go back.

I have been to the Joker many times and have never been disappointed with the service or the food/drinks. I would highly recommend.

I had my birthday party here - the staff were so easy with booking the ro and I didn’t have to worry about anything. Particularly impressed with Maddy for providing great service and helping us make sure food arrived in time! Will recommend

I booked an area in The Joker for work birthday drinks for about 25 people. I spoke with the team on the phone who was really helpful with booking the right kind of space for the vibe we wanted, and it ended up perfect. Everyone was complimenting the choice of venue, and everyone had such a great time. Everyone ate the amazing Lost Boys food as and when, and the bar staff were friendly, attentive and efficient for our drinks orders. Special shout out to Connor and Charlotte who were super nice albeit being incredibly busy. It’s rare to find bar staff who can handle the stress and pressure of a busy pub but still be friendly!! 100% would recommend to anyone looking for a fun night out! Especially if booking for a large group :) great night out had all round!

Extremely rude staff member who was drunk and shouting at us to leave half an hour before they close, threatened to get the bouncers on us who did not exist as it was a Sunday, stood over us while we put our coats on and then proceeded to follow us out to greet his friends who were waiting outside which explains his passiveness, a real shame as I only live over the road and visit this pub regularly.

1st time at The Joker! What I expect from a good pub. Decent selection of beers (although I am not a drinker), including their own brew. Comfortable and vibey. We were lucky to get a table as they had all been booked! So clearly a popular choice

I hired out the cocktail lounge and games room for my 50th birthday party and it was brilliant! The space was perfect. Joe and his team were excellent. Joe was so helpful and helped make the evening flow, with great communication and smiles throughout. A truly memorable night!

Loved the open fire on such a cold and wet day and the chicken wings were out of this world good as alway, go for Rufio sauce - it’s amazing! Lovely place to meet up and fabulous food!

Cosy spot for a meet up with friends before moving on to a restaurant. Nice lighting fire. Good beer...especially the Joker real ale. Plenty of seating. I didn't try the food on this visit but it looked good from what I saw folks order.

Margot and the Team hosted a wonderful surprise birthday party up in the cocktail lounge, from initial booking through to the day, the process was flawless and the venue is fantastic, spacious, with attentive staff and great food. Highly recommend for your next celebration!

How do they make their chicken wings so damn tasty? That blue cheese sauce too, boiii - flavours so deliciously tasty my brain cannot comprehend, and I turn into a feral animal, leaving no trace of sustenance. I hired the upstairs room at the Joker for my 30th birthday party and had such an incredible night! The staff were so friendly and accommodating and the room was so beautiful. Joe especially helped with my music and everyone ensured I had a fun night - thank you!! I would recommend hiring the upstairs room for any special occasion!

Cool pub with a nice, spacious layout right near the Duke of York. Great for us to have a pint before/after our cinema visits. They’ve got the Lost Boys kitchen in so fried chicken fans are in luck. Didn’t try the terrace but will definitely be checking it out in spring.

Delicious food, would recommend any of their burgers or wings. Loaded fries were tasty but they were cold.

Lovely place! Been a lot of times but this was the first time we had been in the function room upstairs! Definitely recommend it for a party!

I had my 30th birthday at the Joker and it was the perfect venue! Staff (Joe and Sam) were so attentive and warm and the upstairs space was great! I liked all the lights and decorations that were up and guests all commented on what a great venue it was. I recommend to everyone! Thank you!

I hired the cocktail lounge for my 30th and cannot thank the team enough! I had plenty of time during the day to decorate the space before the event, was able to choose a message on the cinema board and generally felt very welcomed. The evening ran super smoothly, was lovely to have the room privately and a private bar too. The bar staff were fantastic; everyone was commenting about this all night and they helped create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the event. Thank you so much!

I always liked this pub, until tonight when my family came to visit and we went for a drink with my Korean wife and a member or staff had the audacity to come up to me and ask “hi are you with that Chinese girl?” Firstly, she’s Korean and secondly why? Are Asian people allowed in the joker? Please tell me, as I am yet to get an answer on why I was asked that question by a member of the bar staff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡

I am very happy to call this the pub I regularly go to :) I've never had a bad experience with any of the staff members, everyone is so lovely! I love the pub's atmosphere, especially with the Christmas decorations up at the moment, everything feels so cosy. The food and drinks are really good too. I love the pub quiz and jazz nights as well! Would highly recommend :)

I have visited the Joker on numerous occasions now and each time for me it just gets better and better. If you are looking for a cold, crisp pint served with a friendly and warm smile this is the place. Alternatively, if you’re looking to get messy and have your tastebuds frazzled I suggest trying some of their delicious hot wings. Great pub and can’t wait for my next visit.

We ordered food today at 16:30 which arrived lukewarm, and without cutlery. We asked about said cutlery from the young blonde female bartender who then told us to "go and get it." We asked where "it" was, to which the curt response was "in the kitchen, where the food came from?" Needless to say, the staff member was extremely hostile and condescending. We paid for food and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect cutlery, and I certainly don't think the attitude was at all necessary. Would not return. I can tolerate lukewarm food. What I can't tolerate is frosty staff.

This is a lovely friendly, cosy pub, you can have a nice drink on your own or come with a group of friends and have tasty Lost Boys chicken. I like the decor, it’s 100% committed to a reinvention of Victorian Public House. There are all ages here, I like that.

The Joker is a brilliant pub/bar in Brighton. We often bring out of town friends here too! Visited yesterday and Maggie made me the best Old fashioned I have ever had. 10/10!

Traveled well over a hour to go to orange buffalo and the kitchen was closed with no warning, not the first time kitchen has closed without notification.

The Joker? Are you having a laugh? Having been a Brighton custodian for many a year and seen many a venue come and go in this space it’s been a while since my last visit here. Have generally found The Joker to be fine even since the early days and their various chicken and spicy offerings since the early days. Today I would admit the beer was fine - Angelo Poretti was decent and the Weiss beer on offer ticked a box or two. However, the food was terrible. A portion of fries was borderline frozen for the most part. When I say that I actually mean a lot of chips were frozen upon eating and cold to the bite - what a mess! I’ve had ice creams give less bite to be honest. Layered upon that were two chicken burgers which were equally as cold. Granted the kitchen replaced the fries and burgers rather quickly. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I’m feeling really generous with my 4/5 here. It really is 5/5 for the pub and 0/5 the food. Pull your socks up here guys. Tomorrow is another day. I’d rather my drinks frozen not my food. Sort the find out before you knock someone for six. Keep the beer and atmos as it is. Hopefully you take my hint…

Super place for a wedding party, great roof terrace

This is our favourite pub we have never been to. Me and my stepdaughter call every few weeks to tell them a joke and they always laugh and tell us a joke back. The staff are Absolute diamonds and if we are ever in Brighton we will call in to say hello :-)

The Joker is a real gem. The staff make it the friendliest pub in Brighton, the food is excellent and me and my friends have always had a great time here. It's my go to venue for celebrating every occasion and it never disappoints!

The service was appalling - the female bar manager (with the braids) was so unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. We sat down at a free table and ordered some drinks. When our friends arrived the bar manager shoved them back out so she could berate the bouncer for not IDing two 30 year olds! We then ordered food and were given a buzzer for the table. About 5 minutes later (and 15 mins after we arrived, so we’d been at the table a decent amount of time) the bar manager had a go at us and told us we were seated in a reserved area and needed to move. There had been no signage telling us otherwise and when we explained we’d ordered food and there were no other tables she rudely replied “unless you want to pay £400 you need to move”. No apology, or offer to help. Ironically the conversation we’d been having before we were rudely kicked from our table was us considering booking the terrace for one of the party’s birthday - a booking which requires a £2k bar tab! Safe to say that booking won’t happen and none of us will ever return!

Really enjoyed our food and the bar and security staff were friendly! Vegetarian and vegan options available :) Loved the atmosphere seating outside. Only 4* because pints are expensive. I do understand that pint prices in this area are like that. They're expensive everywhere round here.

A cozy pub with nice staff. It was a quiet rainy day when i visited but it was warm and inviting inside. There's a small private area with doors setup to look like an old skool train cabin.

After paying our drinks and just sit outside we have been kicked out and asked to leave immediately with full drinks, without any actual reason but excuse was my tobacco sigarette, since when illegal? I had tearing eyes for a terrible news I have just received, maybe selection of customer is made on their happiness. They accepted to take our money for our drinks though. You should change your name from the joker to the joke. It Will suit you better! You have lost 2 customers and hopefully all my friends, well done!

However, one peculiar observation caught our attention: the establishment's policy of collecting payment prior to serving beverages. While this practice seemed unusual at first, we speculated that it might be a response to previous instances of non-payment along London Road, highlighting the pub's vigilance in maintaining a fair and efficient service. Upon closer inspection, it became evident that some corners within the pub could benefit from a more meticulous cleaning regimen. Notably, the television screens adorned with a layer of dust detracted from the overall ambiance, a minor oversight that could be easily rectified to elevate the establishment's aesthetic appeal. Despite these minor observations, our overall experience left us looking forward to a return visit. The delicious cuisine and unique ambiance provided by the Lost Boys, coupled with the pub's proactive approach to ensuring a seamless payment process, all contribute to a memorable dining outing. We anticipate that future visits will allow us to fully relish the distinctive charm of this establishment, and we eagerly anticipate the improvements that time may bring.

Poor experience in Joker on Sunday, a relatively quiet evening with plenty of tables free. The staff refused to honour a 15% discount on food and drink (which is up to their discretion and fair). When the food ordered didn't arrive for 25 minutes, the staff were dismissive and said to wait ten minutes then it would be ready - without checking the order details or tablet/buzzer number. After 35 minutes I was asked if I checked with the kitchen and refunded after requesting the payment be returned. The two other people at the table were told that cocktails weren't available when ordering at the bar, which was another stumble for the evening. Our experiences in The Joker have been inconsistent at best, poor evening overall which is a shame as it's right on our doorstep.

We had an amazing time, the staff were really helpful catering to our wishes and on the evening itself. The space is a great size for guests of up to 70 people, and having our own bar made everything easy.

The wings are not as good as they should be. A little soggy and not so tasty.

We had our 25th birthday in the cocktail lounge and it was wonderful! The staff were amazing and so helpful and the cocktail lounge itself is so funky and cool, plus the drinks were fab! Would definitely recommend it for a party or just to go there for drinks! Thank you so much to the Joker team!!
