Wonderful cafe with warm, friendly and helpful staff. Superb selection of cakes, largest choice of gluten free cakes of any cafe I’ve visited and very delicious. Tea served in hot mugs, a nice touch was the timer for the correct brewing time for the loose leaf tea in a teapot. Dog friendly and will use a Polaroid to put a picture of your dog on the wall of fame! The breakfast menu looked delicious and we will be returning. The price was very fair- I don’t live in the 1950’s as a really miserable previous reviewer does!

I visited last Saturday with a friend for lunch. We were told on arrival there was a 30 minute wait for food.We took a seat upstairs and were ignored for 20 minutes. When someone came to take our order we were told about a 30 minute wait.We asked if we could just have tea and cake whereupon we were told we could go(downstairs) and look to see what sort of cakes they had for ourselves! Apparently had take out orders which took priority. We cancelled our order and left, never to return. What a shame that the attitude of one member of staff can have this effect! I don't suppose we were the only ones to receive this treatment.

Excellent service. We had booked afternoon tea but sadly one of our party’s husband was admitted to hospital the day before we were due to go. Contacted The Joiners shop and arranged for the tea to be a ‘ take out’. It was beautifully packed and the quality and quantity of food was excellent. It meant a lot that we were all able to enjoy the tea around hospital visiting times. Service was very friendly and helpful, hopefully we will be able to visit in person soon and enjoy another excellent afternoon tea .

This is a little hidden gem of a place. My visit today was the 7th in 5 weeks and my brunch of “The Old Cross” was not only filling but beautifully presented and very tasty. The coffee is excellent, being blended locally by Rowntons Coffee Roasters. There has been some criticism in the very few negative reviews I’ve read, but let me assure you that this establishment’s prices are spot on. If you want cheap and tasteless food this is not the place for you. If you are prepared to pay the correct prices, and want great tasting and visually appealing food, prepared by a talented chef and served by warm friendly staff, this IS the place for you to go. It gets rather busy on weekends, especially between 11am and 2pm, but any wait for a table is well worth it. My advice to all who read this is to give it a try. You will be delighted I’m sure.

We visited for a midweek lunch and were lucky to get a table, which speaks for itself! The menu is broad for a small cafe and includes a separate breakfast menu, available up to 11.30am. We chose poached eggs and bacon on toast, with latte coffee and hot chocolate. Service was both prompt and friendly; we were informed of the specials on offer, which also sounded delicious. We enjoyed the food; bacon was tasty and the eggs properly poached. As we were quite full, we shared a scone, but there are other cakes on offer. This cafe has everything, perfect location, excellent interior and an imaginative menu, however the one thing it lacks is the expertise to go with it. Arrive 10 mins after opening to be told that the one item I was looking forward to had now all gone as another 2 tables had ordered it, no worries I went for the eggs benedict, told it would take 30 mins due to other orders. After half an hour in a very cold room and watching the waitress serving the meals of a table for 6 over a 10 min period guessed that perhaps we should have gone elsewhere. After an hour waitress suggested another Coffee which was a bit of an insult after our first coffees had now gone cold. Finally the orders arrived with half cooked poached eggs served on an almost toasted muffin on a stone cold plate. The sauce was excellent but soon cold. Why the pea shoots? Get the basics right and have a menu that can be served in a sensible time and please when a guest leaves just make eye contact and perhaps ask if they have enjoyed the meal and then they could solve some of the problems highlighted in the more constructive reviews.

Been a couple of times on a Sunday with quite a rude lady working there which has put us off. Just returned from lunch with my mum. She had been previously and said we should try it.

Another great coffee! So consistent and the staff are always so friendly. Bright and changing menu! One of the best coffee shops around!

On a walk around and stopped for some refreshment. The beer was well kept and the bar staff was polite. We observed a local having a Ploughmans Lunch and what a plate full.....we shall return in better time to this proper family friendly country pub......

We called on spec today for a quick lunch prior to visiting friends in the area. The welcome was friendly. Staff and customers were most welcoming to our two little dogs. How nice this was. The food was most acceptable . Decent-sized portions and a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables. Pity not all pubs are so accommodating.

A warm welcome for all your doggies here at the Fika Room cafe! We have visited several times now with our rather large Bernese Mountain Dog and we are always greeted warmly and have been happy with the staff, the cakes, the drinks and the way that dogs are accepted and welcomed indoors. The staff have always been chatty and very pleasant. Well done! We will be back!

What a smashing hostelry. Cosy bar with happy chat, great menu and tasty home cooked food to order. Really enjoyed a very pleasant hour ( found purely by chance). We will definitely be back for more and longer. Thank you.

Quality is good. However, the portion sizes have massively decreased, the Parmesan for example is half the size it used to be and is very very thin. Chips are only provided to share between the table, so this is a clear way of trying to save money. The Bay Horse always used to be consistently good when booking a large group. Unfortunately , this will be the last time I visit until they sort out their portion sizes for the price they charge I ordered and paid for drinks at the bar which cost me £40. 2 pints of Pepsi 2 J20 2 sparkling water 2 half pints of lemonade 1 lime and soda 2 lattes
