The Greyhound at Bagby in Hambleton

We visited with 3 friends who are lucky enough to be local to this amazing place. Wow! Lovely decor and ambience, lovely staff and the most amazing food - we all had something different but all loved it…. So much so, we’ve bought vouchers from them as a gift to out friends. If we didn’t live 140 miles away we’d be here every week ourselves!

Warm welcome, great service, excellent food and a perfect host. It’s always nice to meet the chef when you have enjoyed such a nice meal. Who could ask for more.

Very friendly warm local service. Lots of specials on. Felt very safe and all covid secure. Attentive service but not over the top. The food was amazing. Great portions - we couldn't finish our mains! Highly recommend! Hummus fab, lamb amazing, and the chicken in the pancake basket just beautiful!

Great local pub, the owner is very friendly and lovely food. I recommend the mixed meze for starter.

Been here a few times as we have a caravan close by. I think it’s the owner, he is very good with everyone and takes time to chat. The food I’m still getting used to as Turkish. Maybe some of the menus could elaborate on what they actually are, but having had a few meals there I find them very tasty and filling.

The service was excellent very friendly and welcoming.The food was very tasty and there was plenty on my plate.I am a vegetarian and the stuffed aubergine was a welcoming change.My children loved their desert chicolate fudge cake and Turkish delight ice cream.what a treat.we will be back again.

I was invited for a early fathers day lunch with family, it's a restaurant we have often thought about going to but lockdown spoilt that. We had mains and were warned that the mixed grill would be too much for us so settled for two sirloin steaks and one ham shank and one sea bass. The steaks were cooked perfectly to order one medium and one medium rare with chips tomatoes garlic rings peppers and salad, they were both beautiful and went down a treat, the ham shank was perfectly cooked with the usual complement of vegetables, the sea bass was delicious along with the vegetables. We had 2 desserts 1 apple pie with custard and 1 Berry cheesecake and cream both were delicious and went down a treat, finishing off with 2 coffees which carried on the quality of the meal. All in all a lovely day with a first class service by all the the staff, this is Turkish owned and you get the usual hospitality that comes with that, the friendliness and warmth of service is second to none. Our first time at this establishment but definitely not the last.

We found this pub by accident whilst staying in Thirsk. The Staff were so pleasant and helpful. The standard of decor was very high. Black Sheep Ale was on tap and excellent quality. The food was very tasty and fresh ingredients were used. I would recommend this to anyone and would definitely visit again if I was in the area. Very reasonably priced for the standard received

Pre booked lunch. The restaurant premises and general presentation were 1st class.Service was immediate with drinks orders and menus quickly supplied, and orders taken.The food was excellent and the whole experience was beyond reproach.We would hope to return in the very near future

Well what can I say !!! Myself and my partner decided to go for dinner on Sunday . We both ordered the lamb dinner ! All I can say is absolute perfection the lamb was so tasty and delicious the vegetables taste so so so’s fresh and are cooked to absolute perfection !and absolutely scrumptious . Served on piping hot plates with home made mint sauce and the gravy is to die for (my fella even drank it after ! Much to my horror ) . After such an amazing Sunday dinner we went again on Tuesday I had a dish from the special menu. Chicken breast stuffed with Wensleydale with a white wine and cheese sauce with the same amazing vegetables . Again the chicken was perfect the sauce was amazing !! My partner had the pork stack which he enjoyed with much gousto. The black pudding was divine and the pork was so tender ! The service is second to none. Laz, fetah, Julia, Kayley, Emma and Katie and the rest of the staff are so welcoming and friendly and nothing is a problem . The Covid rules are followed and it’s a very safe atmosphere. But very friendly ! The place is absolutely spotless and I would recommend to anyone ! Well done you guys ! As a team you have nailed it perfection

The food was superb (as always), the staff were all friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was great. The pub is immaculate, and we feel so lucky to have it in our village, big shout out to Laz and Fettah.

A very nice venue, where you are welcomed by great staff. It was our first time visiting The Greyhound. We found it to have good food, with plenty of choice and reasonable prices.We all agreed we would happily eat there again. Spaces outside to eat was nice to see and a bar and restaurant area too, so lots of room.The restaurant is decorated tastefully and is a great room to relax and chat. Soft background music was playing when we were there and it was perfect for a good atmosphere and for socialising.

Sunday lunch just out of lockdown, everything was excellent. Plentiful portions of fresh quality food and service with a smile. Would definitely recommend

Been back two weekends running now and have loved it both times. Staff are great and the food is brilliant. Sat in the sunshine outside and enjoyed a Turkish mixed starter with a couple of the specials they had, highly recommend. Won’t be long until we’re back for more

Popped into the Greyhound for tea as we were in Bagby for a pick-up.Nice covered are outside and dog friendly. Excellent pint of Sheep anda reasonable glass of red.Starters of Garlic mushrooms and a Black pudding, both excellent.Then mains of Haddock and chips, excellent light batter, and a lamb Ali Nazik for me.Great service, a very attentive helpful manager.Enjoyed our impromptu meal.

Just had our first meal out in many months, it was a fabulous experience, fantastic food, lovely ambience, brilliant service. It felt very covid safe. 5 stars doesn’t seem enough for such a wonderful evening . Thank you Laz and team

Just experienced a fabulous early evening (outdoors of course at the moment) at the Greyhound. The place has had loads of investment recently and the outside and inside of the pub is really great. They do superb food - we opted for the Turkish dishes with a fab meze sharing plate to start and then really tasty and unusual main courses. There are also English alternatives if thats what you prefer. The owners were so attentive and the service amongst the best we’ve experienced. If you are in the area this is definitely a must do!!

Exactly a year since we last ate out as a family seemed like a perfect excuse for a Sunday lunch (takeaway)... A simple call to order before an on time pickup from a (somehow still) cheery Laz...Traditional roasts with "amazing veg" and "pub gravy" combined with Turkish options (my choice), resulting in the family statement that "need a nap for the afternoon"Obviously would rather eat in with a couple of pints of @blacksheepbrewery, but until then... #shoplocal #eatlocal #supportlocalbusiness.Simply recommend.:-)

We have just returned from an amazing lunch in this beautiful stylish and friendly establishment. The bar and dining room both furnished to a very high standard and everywhere spotless. We both tried the Turkish dishes which were tasty and presented beautifully. We will be back without doubt very soon.

We’ve recently moved to Bagby and have eaten at the Greyhound pub a few times now. The food has been extremely tasty and worth paying a little bit more for than standard pub prices. I’ve had a chicken dish from the Turkish menu and a steak pie (very nice!) from the specials menu and my wife has also thoroughly enjoyed the two vegetarian dishes she’s ordered on our visits.There’s also a good selection of lagers and ales on offer but it would be nice if there was an IPA or golden ale available in the future.Service has been very attentive and friendly and the owners have clearly spent a lot of time and effort recently on decorating the pub which is also kept spotlessly clean. We’re lucky to have this lovely pub as our local and will enjoy visiting again and again over the years.

Friday night takeaway... A fantastic spread once again from Fettah & Las at the Greyhound. A great range of British & Turkish, all good... We went Turkish Top quality service despite all the current restrictions, perfectly cooked and exactly on time. So glad I made the choice to go here for our lockdown Sunday lunch it was superb! The meat was exquisite, sirloin of beef and roast lamb. Everything was out of this world , delicious veggies , roast potatoes , homemade mint sauce. You can tell when a chef is proud of his work when he can produce outstanding food. We visited for dinner on a Friday night as a family of four, 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 10 and 7). From start to finish the staff were exemplary couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly. Onto the food.... wow! Absolutely unreal. No specific kids menu but our kids were both happy to eat a smaller portion of the main menu and really enjoyed their chicken dish. We had starters, mains and puddings and every bite was delicious, the highlight for me was the lambMain dish which was delicious. We are not local however we do pass through the area often visiting family and will certainly be making sure to make a return visit very soon!

Best meal we have had for ages. Get the meza platter to start, it's a brilliant plate of food. The staff were great, even after ordering the wrong main they were happy to change it and bring what we meant to order (I blame my very poor Turkish!).Laz made us feel really welcome and told us all about the Turkish dishes.Will be back again very soon.

The Greyhound was a beautiful pub and the food was amazing. The food was so excellent that I would absolutely travel to eat here - it’s a true culinary experience and not just any local pub. The decor was so fresh and lovely - we enjoyed ourselves on all accounts. Highly recommend. I had the lamb pieces main and we all shared a mezze platter.

Delicious! Upon arrival you could smell the food as you entered the room. The room was spacious and COVid secure. Service was quick, polite and efficient. We had a young child with us and the place was very accommodating for our needs. We had a sharing platter and made the meal like a tapas sharing experience. Food was hot, tasty and the chef personally asked us if we liked the food. This was a very good personal touch. Thank you.

This time had the gammon and as always the food was superb and was generous in its size Can’t recommend this pub enough - visit and you won’t be disappointed

My husband and I were staying in a nearby village we decided to try this restaurant for lunch. The owner was extremely friendly, showed us to our table and brought the menus, there was plenty to choose from.Our starters arrived promptly accompanied by one of the specialities, there own home made bread which was delicious. The mains that we ordered arrived, could not fault a thing, we were presented with a dessert menu, I decided on the Turkish Delight ice cream which was a real treat.All Covid measures had been adhered to, the restaurant itself was extremely well laid out, everything was spotlessly clean, the kitchen was immaculate.I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant it is certainly well worth a vist, my husband and i would certainly return if we are ever in the area.

Lovely clean friendly pub.They welcome dogs,and we were able to eat our meal in the bar area.The menu is extensive and there is also a specials board.The food was delicious and all freshly cooked.We will definitely go back next time we are in Yorkshire.It felt very safe with all the necessary covid precautions in place.

Always spotlessly clean with friendly helpful staff.A good choice of Starters, Mains and Desserts.Food is served in good time with no rush in between courses.Good value too for what you get.A mixture of British and Turkish food in a lovely North Yorkshire Village.Laz and Fettah are fantastic hosts you will love the food as well as the atmosphere.

My wife and I had our 7th Anniversary meal here on 19th October and it was fantastic. Excellent food and service in a spotlessly clean restaurant and Pub. We both tried Turkish dishes and they were some of the tastiest food we had ever eaten. We were served by a very friendly and pleasant young lady and Laz one of the owners. We will definitely be going back, when we spoke to Las we told him it was our Anniversary and he returned with a piece of berry cheesecake with two candles in it and Happy Anniversary written on the plate in chocolate sauce, a very nice gesture Thank you.

A wonderful restaurant, food, service and general ambiance. The mezze platter for two is highly recommended as a starter.

Delicious, well prepared Turkish food, with some non-Turkish dishes. Mezedes also available so a full meal not obligatory. Very friendly staff. Clean and smart dining room, very well spaced tables and first class Covid safety measures - I noticed the staff cleaning the table and seats at another table after the diners left, sanitzers everywhere. Parking area has been created to be far tidier and there is a small terrace area for better weather. Somewhat unlikely location for a Turkish restaurant, but certainly worth the journey.

Superb food lovely atmosphere staff very friendly. Thoroughly recommend the Greyhound. It was spotlessly clean and a great experience. The food was amazing can’t praise it highly enough. Give the Turkish wine a try it was very quaffable.

We dropped in after we found the pub in Kilburn closed and are so glad we did. A lovely pub with a surprise Turkish restaurant. The food was probably the best I've had outside Turkey, the service was excellent and the bill pleasantly modest. The chef is all over it and even brought his chilli plant out to show off his fresh ingredients. This place deserves to thrive - go, eat well, have fun and tell your friends.

We first tried the restaurant in August and we found the food delicious, the service was very good and we felt safe. Since then we have visited it another 3 times and 2 Sunday lunches. We have not been able to fault any of our visits and would highly recommend.

I cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Staff are super polite. Covid practices are perfect. Table spacing is just right to make you feel safe. And the food is out of this world. Good menu of both typical bar food and Turkish dishes. Also a specials board. We had two Turkish courses and the food was stunning. Chef comes out and speaks to everyone too which is a nice touch. Entire place is absolutely spotless.

We were recommended this place while staying at the Wigwam holiday park in the local area and were not disappointed! The food was out of this world! The service was equally as amazing.

Had a lovely meal here Saturday afternoon after a day at Monks farm. They had Lovely choice of Turkish and English food place was very clean and well presented will definitely be back had a Turkish sharing platter to start everything was home made creme brulee was the best we've had !

First time eaten here and really enjoyed it. Friendly service and good food. Nice feel to the place, tables well spaced and all Covid precautions in place, front door to enter, back door to exit unless of course you are a smoker which obviously means you can also use the exit as the entrance to save you the extra 30 yard walk to the front entrance. Selfish, lazy or just stupid? Not the venues fault but annoying for those who can follow the simple rules. Would return again for the food and service. Good Turkish menu and good quantity!!

First time all the way from Turkey and well worth a visit it was. From the nostalgic setting and stunning countryside views to the exotically exquisite journey for your taste buds of the Turkish cuisine. Could not have felt more at home. Easy access from all areas being superbly centrally located. Great food. Great atmosphere. Professional and friendly service. This is a place not to be missed.

We accidentally stumbled across this place and popped in for Sunday lunch and it was a fabulous find. The place is very tastefully decorated and has a really nice atmosphere. The staff are lovely and friendly, we had an incident with spilled drinks and the staff couldn’t have been more apologetic, they were fab. The food is divine, we had two courses (we’d have had three courses if we weren’t so full!). I had the most delicious garlic mushrooms for starters and Imam Bayaldi (sorry if the spelling is wrong) for main - it was delicious. I’ll definitely be calling again next time I’m in the area.

My second meal here while visiting family and it was as wonderful as the first! The food is SO tasty you can tell it is freshly made and the thought that has gone into the menu is clear. The staff, every one of them, are professional, friendly and genuinely care about this excellent pub. I’m looking forward to my next trip to Bagby!

Found this place by accident, we were looking for lunch while travelling. What an amazing surprise this place is, we shared a plate of meze, loads of well prepared Turkish flavours. Service was excellent and COVID rules well covered. I’d highly recommend.

Food overpriced expected more for lamb skewer and chips at £16and it was just diced lamb grilled and some chips.Waitresses young and lack experience and got orders constantly wrong.The manager had to check food order, drinks order wrong twice.An hour wait between starter and main whilst Turkish friends who arrived didn't wait for food.Manager was poor made excuse after excuse, would make a poor salesman. Had to drag an apology out of him, no recompense, nit even offered a drink.The Whetherspoons in Thirsk was far better than the over priced kebab shop.

Popular place, so glad we booked. Had the Meze to share for starters, which was lovely, followed by tasty mains. Service from the waitresses in particular was excellent, very attentive and polite. Owners also came to say hello and check everything was ok. Clearly very passionate about their food and business and great to see. Gem of a place and we will be back!

Looking for somewhere to eat while passing through Thirsk, and unable to get in anywhere due to covid19 restrictions, we happened on The Greyhound by chance. A very well turned out country pub, welcoming staff, and a surprise to us; Turkish menu. There were English items available such as Lamb shank, but reading through the Turkish delights on offer (see what I did there), everything sounded so mouthwateringly good. Finding it hard to choose, we went for two items and promised to swap half way through, The Greyhound chicken and a chicken in creamy tomato sauce with garlic and peppers finished with cheese and served in a pancake basket. Both meals were served with rice and were exceptionally tasty. We sat in the sun on the terrace, and the owner came out to chat, explaining how it had been his dream to own a country pub and offer a mixed menu. The delicious food and pleasant surroundings are a testament to his dream. I only wish I lived locally to be able to return for more.

Fabulous authentic Turkish cuisine, super friendly staff. Absolutely would recommend. Turkish wine was also brilliant. Thank you for an excellent dining experience.

Always a very warm welcome, excellent food plenty of variety beautifully cooked. Both Laz and Feta, brilliant hosts , so pleased to be able to say this is my local.

Our family of four felt completely safe , the staff were excellent as always . The food perfect , especially my sea bass . I cannot recommend highly enough . The lovely owner did a check back regularly and despite having to wear masks the waiting staff were polite and helpful . This is a real gem and value for money .

Went for Sunday lunch, tables well spaced out, nice welcome. Staff friendly and helpful, good menu with good options for vegetarians. Food was excellent, service good, and reasonably priced. We shall return.

Booked in by phone with only 30 mins notice and they fitted in our party of 5... What a find.... The ambience and food were 5 star. The host could not have been more helpful and the same goes for the staff. The place has been fully refurbished and looks fabulous. We all decided to have the meze from the starter menu and wow what a range of delicious Turkish food. If you are reading this review and decide to visit then please tell only your closest friends about it, selfish I know but I want to be able to get a table next time I'm in the area.

We enjoyed a fabulous family meal at The Greyhound last night. Food, ambience, service were all outstanding. Staff attentive and kind. The restaurant was very clean and Covid guidelines were followed. Great selection of vegetarian options too. We can't praise The Greyhound high enough. Will definitely return! Highly recommended.

What can I say, amazing food, amazing staff, will 100% be returning to the Greyhound Inn!! I visited shortly after they reopened after lockdown and felt at comfort they were properly taking the COVID precautions. We then were taking to a beautiful dining area. Shared the mezze platter which meant we got to sample some Turkish delicacies for the first time. It was simply astounding, couldn’t fault it. Next for me was the Ali Nazik - a traditional lamb dish that the waiter told me dated back to the 16th Century!! Again a fabulous plate of food. Will be recommending this place to everyone!!!

Took a friend for dinner.He was very impressed.We go on a regular basis.Cannot fault it lovely decor good choice of drinks.Attentive service and brilliant food.Good choice of specials as well as the standard menu.Lots of choice some with a Turkish twist. Feta, the owner, has done a fantastic job of renovating this place. It is all immaculate and very tastefully decorated throughout. There is a lovely lounge area and the restaurant feels very homely and welcoming. All the staff are just lovely, can't do enough for you. We had Sunday lunch and the food was all beautifully prepared and piping hot with more than adequate portion sizes. Our new favourite place and we shall definitely be returning very soon.

Looked forward to our 1st visit after reading the reviews. The service and staff were great but we were left very disappointed with the food. We had a mix hot platter starter for starters which was good. For mains we ordered chicken and lamb skewers. The meat on both was very over cooked and so dry we had to ask for extra sauce to be able to swallow it. Very disappointed and won't be in a rush to return unfortunately.

Nice atmosphere, friendly attentive service without being over bearing. A wide choice of dishes from both Turkey and locally. The vegetarian casserole was excellent as were the marinated chicken kebabs. Left room for desert and enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. Definitely one to go back to.

With all the positive reviews and a recommendation from a family friend we had high expectations, however the food was disappointing. Salad supplied with meal was sub std with tasteless tomatoes (ingredients bought to price not quality?). Duck as main was overcooked and tough. As we said to staff at time "we wouldn't rush back"

This evening my wife,daughter and i visited The Greyhound at Bagby near Thirsk. It was the first time we have been since it had a full refurbishment about one year ago.It was wonderful, i have wasted no time in letting you all know what a supherb meal we all had. It is very rare that you come away and are all of the same opinion.I was amazed at the stylish refurbishment, good interior design choices made !A pleasant greeting with a good selection of premium quality drinks.To start my wife had a Prawn Cocktail, which came on a plate with Rocket Salad and avocado. Thumbs up from Mrs C ! I had a diced Aubergine with tomato and Garlic sauce. Delicious !!On to the main, and it was a very generous half portion of tender Chicken Goujons for my daughter with perfect home cooked chips, Homemade Steak Pie for my wife, generous chunks of Steak and rich tasty gravy with a flakey pastry topping. (" probably the best Steak Pie i have ever had" she said. Spoilt for choice, i eventually chose the Pork and Black Pudding Stack which came with an assortment of crunchy vegetables. Delicious, I thought i had eaten a Mixed grill.Only my daughter had room for desert, her eyes lit up when the plentyful portion of what seemed to be homemade Strawberry Ice Cream turned up. When offered a taste, i was glad to confirm it was a very good qaulity Ice Cream.A final word must go to the waiting staff, who were extremly pleasant and helpful.We can't wait to return, Best dining pub in the Thirsk area that i know of.

Went to the world championship cycling in Harrogate and happened on the Greyhound for Sunday lunch - what an amazing find - slightly off the beaten track, delicious food, lovely staff and gorgeous atmosphere. Highly recommended ❤️

Visited for Sunday lunch. Accommodated my Dad's dietary needs. Roast dinners were plentiful and tasty, our only negative was that the roast potatoes were a bit hard and not fluffy inside. Staff couldn't have been nicer with the chef coming out to see us before we left. Everywhere was spotlessy clean. Would recommend and return again.

If, like my wife, you get caught out by food being too 'hot' tastewise then try this place for something different. One of the owners (I think) advised that the Nohutlu Ispanak (a spinach/chick pea casserole with kasar cheese) was spiced for flavour, rather than heat, and she really enjoyed it as it was the simple truth. I had the same, with Kisir to start, which was also really delicious. Anyone who likes 'hot' food is probably wondering why I'm bothering to stress this but my wife has really struggled to eat food at other places because the description's been misleading.

We have heard such good reviews that we just had to check this place out ourselves.

Decided to try out this recently refurbished pub, we were not disappointed. The dining room was beautifully decorated, the staff were polite and helpful without being in your face. The food was excellent, being a vegetarian I thought I would struggle with finding a good selection of veggie food but I was amazed at the variety. Definitely a place to visit again, thank you Feta and staff for an enjoyable evening meal.

Been to The greyhound many times now for drinks and to catch up with Laz who has turned the pub around to be a respectable restaurant in a small village. The food is phenomenal especially the hot mezze sharing board! Food is reasonably priced and so are the drinks! You want somewhere cosy to eat either in the bar or the restaurant here’s the place to be! The boys have done a marvellous job on the pub and it’s definitely worth a visit!

We visited twice Saturday lunch with my husband was fantastic I had the lamb fillet which was fab my husband had soup and the lambs liver which were both excellent. We ate in the bar with our dog. Then we went again with family for a Sunday lunch again great food nice staff we all enjoyed lunch my aubergine main course was delicious. Only complaint for my family the vegetables were a little undercooked for majority but would recommend a great little find

Superb pub that has been made a restaurant. Dog friendly. You can eat in bar or restaurant. Disability friendly, step free, wheelchair accessible. Delightful staff, very well trained, and the most delicious Turkish food with daily specials. Totally recommend it.

I was taken to lunch by friends who frequent the establishment often and I was welcomed as a guest of theirs. The waitress and proprietor served us with drinks, took our order and brought delicious food, presented in ample portions. Each of us ate something different for all three courses and we each were satisfied entirely. It might be a refurbished pub but it is a world apart from the offerings of anything else in the locality. I would commend the place for any occasion - there is seating in the bar (we picked a good corner) and there is a large restaurant area, too. Booking ahead makes good sense. I've not enjoyed such a tasty and varied meal in a long, long time.

The newly refurbished Greyhound is a pleasure to eat and drink in . Excellent choice of traditional and Turkish based food with vegetarian options. We normally eat in the bar or sit outside in the lovely covered area but the restaurant has also been refurbished beautifully. There is good access for disabled people . The manager chef and team are pleasant and helpful. Really happy to recommend this bar/ restaurant .

Passing through Bagby we decided to stop for lunch. What a fantastic place, lovely choice of food and very large portions and very well presented. Can highly recommend and would go out of our way to visit again when we are next in the area.

After looking at the magnificent White Horse on the side of the Hambleton Hills from the A19 many times we decided to go and have a look at it close up.

What a fantastic surprise, this restaurant is brill. The ambiance is fantastic and the atmosphere was lovely. We decided to eat at the bar the two young servers were so attentive, definition of service with a smile.

Booked restaurant for early evening followed by cinema trip.

Just had a trip to meet friends at The Greyhound at Bagby. What a lovely pub in this pretty village. Yes it was quiet, but it was cloudy cool Wednesday lunchtime. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. The chef even took my husband into the kitchen to show him the lamb he was cooking. We all decided to go Turkish and chose the specials for starters.
