We LOVED this place. The food was divine and service and drinks were spot on too. The restaurant itself was very atmospheric. The menu had lots to choose from and catered for both me and my husband. Little dishes were 'chefs kiss'. Will definitely visit again. TOP TIP - You must try the miso brown butter with sourdough bread

Absolutely wonderful meal. We visited on fairly spontaneous Saturday night. The selection of dishes was just right. Every dish was excellent. Particularly the hispi cabbage which was surprisingly delicious. Great selection of beers and cocktails

We could have had food at any of our lovely beer garden stops in Northallerton, but decided to hold out and duck out of the sun, to the recommended Origin. I'm so glad we did! Absolutely stunning food, lovely wine too. Visited with my mum today but we're both eager to bring our friends and family back to try out even more of the menu.

So refreshing to come across an establishment that is doing small plates (tapas) properly. Many places have jumped on the tapas bandwagon but few are doing it well but for me, Origin is. A good selection of dishes that are reasonably priced and best of all, what is served up lives up to its description. We will be back

Beautiful food. How sourdough and amazing butter can taste so good I don't know. All small plates were great even the smallest piece of grapefruit needs a mention. Service was good. Can't wait to go back

This place was busy, so it must be doing something right, but what that is escvapes me. Food arrives as it is ready according to the menu. The result of this was that three of us were just about finished eating before the fourth had received any food at all. One dish, baked cod in tomato pesto etc featured a thick piece of excellently cooked cod but it was swimming in stone cold tomato pesto. The flavours did not go together nor did the temperatures. "Baked king scallaps" arrived on a scallop shell swimming in garlic butter - no problem except that the scallops weren't king scallops plural but fragments of what could have been less than one large scallop. The other dishes were equally disappointing.

This tapas meal was absolutely outstanding 👏 👌 We had 6 plates 🍽 between 2 of us, and it was exceptional. Packed with goodness and flavour, every plate was an absolute delight. A mocktail was the ideal accompaniment, too, with a sweet plate to finish off.

Went for lunch 23/6, shared a few small plates. All nicely cooked and well presented, decent and varied menu, good range of beers, nice service. Would definitely recommend

Visited with my parents for their first tapas, food was tasty and plentiful though quite expensive. Staff helpful but tables quite sticky and a few flies buzzing about which were slightly off putting. Will visit again and hopefully changes will have been made.

Visited here with my partner during our stay in Thirsk and wow this restaurant didn’t disappoint. We went for the taster menu paired with the wines and each dish was impeccable - hats off to the chefs!! Very reasonably priced for the standard of food and service we received. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family and would return to this restaurant if we ever stayed in this area again.

Lovely gluten-free Sunday roast filet off beef. With the most perfectly cooked vegetables. Lovely staff and quick service. Very economically priced. Looking forward to next time.

Incredible….as a vegetarian, I felt very spoilt for choice and had just to order all of the veggie options. So glad we did! I’ve been to many AA rosette restaurants and Michelin starred restaurants (in London mainly), and this is hands down one of the best places I have ever eaten. The the cocktails were amazing too. I had one made that wasn’t on the menu, and it was beautiful. They went above and beyond, customer service and food / drinks… just amazing. My favourite was the broccoli, divine. Will be back in a heart beat.

Ask for the "wretched hobo". It's not a heritage ale. In the men's toilet there is a vagrant who can predict the future. Cross his palm with one iPhone and he will predict the date of your next dental appointment.

Visited with friends for Sunday lunch and had a fantastic meal. As a coeliac eating out can be troublesome but the whole of the Sunday lunch menu was gluten free and delicious! I can highly commend. So too were the nibbles we had for starters and sticky toffee pudding. Great spot and we will be back.

Went in for the first time yesterday with my partner and we both loved it! Between us we got 6 plates that were part of the 3 for £20 deal. Showstoppers for us were the tuna tataki and arancini. Service and food were both top notch, couldn’t have faulted anything.

Came here as we live in a village close by. Reception was fine and we got taken to our table quickly. We ordered drinks which were a little slow arriving but it was very busy. We also ordered 4 dishes each. Sourdough bread with a caramelised butter was fine, bread was really good. I then had a scallop in a yoghurt. Scallop was overcooked and Luke warm, presumably because it was in a lake of cold yoghurt. I ate it and it wasn’t unpleasant, it just wasn’t worth the £12 it cost. I then had fried chicken and Parmesan fries. Fries were very good and chicken was fine but not exceptional, I buy better from M and S across the road. My Wife had fried polenta, OK but not exceptional, haloumi with caramelised onions which was fine and a fried cabbage dish which she found inedible due to the strong taste of the sauce. She left most of the cabbage. We then had deserts which were the best part of the meal, chocolate delice and a rhubarb tart. Service was poor. We waited 15 mins for a waitress to give us a desert menu. They were running round but never looked up and despite us being at a table in the middle of the room it was impossible to attract their attention. They were also oblivious to us having finished. Once they did come they didn’t ask why my wife had left the cabbage dish, just cleared the plates and went. I think the main issue was they didn’t appear to have a station so no-one had any responsibility for a particular table, they all seemed to visiting all the tables. I say this from my experience of having eaten at hundreds of restaurants the world over, if there aren’t stations you can be missed. Overall a very below par experience, I’ve no idea how it gets such good reviews other than the choice in Northallerton being so limited that this is the best of the bunch.

Another 10/10 family Sunday. 6 of us in total, we arrived 30 minutes early for our table so we played board games and tasted a wide range of beers they have on tap. Mum had a couple of Cocktails which looked amazing. The food was fantastic, we shared a few of the snacks before we all had a roast beef dinner. The beef is fantastic, so tender and a slight smokey flavour. The best Yorkshire puddings and all completely gluten free. No better roast in the area.

Brilliant little place to come across, visited with some family and each dish we had was faultless especially the tuna and cod dish! Which went down well with a few cocktails, all of the staff we interacted with were very helpful and accommodating, we will definitely be back :)

We’ve been scouring the area for the perfect Sunday Lunch and today, we found it on our doorstep. We both had roast beef (melt in the mouth) with a superb array of vegetables. Excellent and couldn’t fault it. We have previously visited and have had the small plates dishes which are aLao excellent.

OH. MY. GOODNESS. This place is amazing!! I visited with my mum last week and have been telling everyone about it ever since. Best restaurant I've been to in living memory; I live in London and have pretty much given up dining out as the food never tastes right, even at the poshest places in town. But this little restaurant in Northallerton, North Yorkshire absolutely made me fall in love with food all over again! Just dishes were so clever and inventive! The staff seemed to be genuinely proud of their work and so they should be!! Thank you so much Origin, I will definitely be visiting every time I go North to visit my mum. Lovely place to drink and also to have their small plates experience. This review scores lowly mainly due to, what I consider, as a low qual7ity hummus. I found it sloppy, mainly tasteless. A chance to talk to the chef was not forthcoming and my concern was dismissed too quickly by one of the barstaff/ serving staff. I wasn't allowed the full name of the manager by the staff who was not available and no one seemed willing to step up to challenge of being in charge for the evening.

A great selection of small plates. There are lots of choices for vegetarians and good dessert options too. They had a huge range of beers, cocktails, and wines. I was very pleased with my pint of Virtuous IPA from Kirtstall Brewery, which was on draft and only 0.9% alcohol content. Friendly staff, and excellent value for money. Would highly recommend to anyone in the Northallerton area.

We had an amazing time at origin. Everything was super tasty but our particular favorite was the Korean chicken. We will definitely be back again soon!

My husband and I went here for dinner Saturday night whilst visiting family in the area. The downstairs bar area had a great atmosphere, with welcoming staff and a good selection of beers and cocktails. We ordered 7 of the small plates and dessert. All of the food was outstanding, in particular the arancini which we ordered seconds of. The service was faultless . The whole team should be congratulated on their efforts and we will most certainly be returning when we are next in the area.

Our party of 7 really enjoyed the Tapas dishes here, we found them interesting, tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were brilliant, attentive, helpful and polite. We had a selection of different cocktails/beer/wine, all of which were great. This is not your average, everyday, run of the mill eatery, and that's what makes it so brilliant. I have no hesitation recommending this place to family and friends. Thanks Origin, see you again!

We were a large group and Origin hosted us all perfectly, with professional and prompt service. A few of the group had the Sunday roast and commented it was the best they'd had out for a long while; even the kids options were well thought out. Would love to see a veggie roast option one day, though! The food scene in Northallerton has never been particularly exciting, so really great to see Origin serving the goods and thriving!

If you’re after amazing food and drink this is the place for you! Without a doubt the best place for food in Northallerton, it genuinely isn’t matched. With a rotating seasonal menu there will always be something different available but everything is of the finest quality. Could not recommend it any more! As for drinks? Again, the best selection in town. They’ve got a brilliant array of the best local and national craft beer alongside hand pull cask options. There’s also a huge cocktail menu that genuinely caters for all tastes, including non alcoholic. A final point. The team are amazing! Service is always with a smile and they genuinely go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit. Origin is now a regular stop for us and has been a game changer for Northallerton. 5 star!

We went for Sunday lunch having been a number of times for evening meal. Northallerton has lacked a decent Sunday lunch for sometime, not any more. It went well beyond our expectations and all gluten free to boot. The Yorkshire puddings were the best gluten free puddings I've had, meat nice and pink and tender, gravey spot on. The chief should be proud and deserves a pat on the back. Cheese sauce on the cauliflower needs some work but this is only criticism, everything else we couldn't fault.

We went with our family for a birthday lunch. Three of us are meat eaters, one pescatarian and one vegetarian, so we ordered a variety of small plates to share. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! Origin is something different, the food is first class, the service is very friendly and it's a real asset to Northallerton.

We previously visited for small plates and so we’re really excited to try the Sunday roast. We were not disappointed. We both chose the beef and it was super tasty and pink. The sides were thought out and flavourful. No bland vegetables here. We topped it off with desserts, which are always amazing here. The baked Alaska is especially my favourite.

This was our first visit to Origin and it certainly won’t be our last! The food was delicious and the service was first class. The Arancini and the carrot hummus were particular favourites but everything was excellent! Highly recommended!

Food and drink excellent. Best selection of craft beer in the area, and usually 3 Cask beers on, making a total of 13 on offer. Food menu changes weekly and is very imaginative .

There's not much to say about the food other than it's excellent! The portion sizes are good and as it's meant for sharing, there's a lot to choose from, although not all dishes are included in the 3 for £XX deal. I gave service 4 stars because we felt forgotten about for the dessert course and after waiting for around 30 minutes, I had to go and ask for it. It meant I had to leave to sort out my parking as I didn't expect lunch to last 2 hours. As for atmosphere, the seating is enough for groups, but that means conversations can become quite loud at times, drowning out the music and giving it a pub feel when you really want a restaurant. A nice experience overall and we've walked past so many times saying we should go in, and we're finally glad we did.

Went for lunch recently and the food was good and well presented. The staff we're helpful but the staff dress was very scruffy and they did not look professional. Also one of the staff had a argument with another member of staff in the kitchen and you could hear all that was going on, very unprofessional.
