The Swan in Hambleton

Had the loveliest night away, evening meal and breakfast at The Swan. Great value, cosy and clean room, brilliant food. Most importantly, all of the staff were so kind and welcoming. Will absolutely be staying again in the future! Thank you

Tried first time well nice we were looking for the wife's 60 th for 8 adults so we booked food fantastic could not fault anything will go back well worth the money thank you George and his team

We are so pleased we stumbled across this lovely hotel, pub, restaurant. We were attending a wedding nearby. It was perfect. Room was amazing, we stayed in the King Room, a beautiful boudoir. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. Food was amazing. Totally recommend and if we're in that neck of the woods again we'd most certainly stay again. You certainly wouldn't be disappointed. Thank you for having us 😊 Oh by the way there pies are delicious. Choice of breakfast also. Just fabulous

Probably one of the worst places I’ve been for food, really sad to say but this place use to be amazing. 1. Mediocre food 2. Rude staff 3. Smelt like toilets throughout 4. Not kid friendly 5. Expensive for what you get

Fantastic food. Brilliant atmosphere. Wish I could go there more often but we live in spalding. Look forward to the next visit. Family live in village and we are always made to feel so welcome by George and his team.

Really awful experience to be honest which is sad because it used to be nice there. We pre booked for Sunday lunch telling them that we had 4 children as part of our group. When we turned up they put us on a table right near the entrance to the kitchen. Before everybody was sat at the table, a member of staff (think she was manager or landlady) moved one of our coats that was on the back of the chair, and said it would get in the way of the entrance to the kitchen! We did feel like we were in the way of the waitresses coming and going from the kitchen so couldn’t really relax. When we were sat down we were getting dirty looks from the same member of staff through out our meal. The football was on the TV but was the opposite side of where we were sat, so having 2 football mad kids they were having the odd wander to that side to have a watch whilst waiting for food. Above mentioned staff member was stood at the bar with seemingly nothing to do apart from the dirty looks, however as soon as one of the kids went to the other side of the TV, she suddenly had to be the other side of the pub, and very dramatically made out the children were in her way… every-time she came back empty handed! She also started cleaning and getting cutlery and whatever else out of the cupboard right next to our table which I had put a few things on as not very much table space, making that uncomfortable too as she was working around my things , again seemed over dramatic. Moving on, the meals are pricey for what you get and pretty tasteless, no effort had gone in to making the food flavoursome and there was no difference between the small and large dinner as all the veg comes on sharing platters anyway and not very much of it! We didn’t get checked on at all. There was no kids menu/meals or activities for them which probably would’ve helped with the inconvenience we were made to feel they were causing. Overall it was a terrible experience which I have shared amongst other people I have talked to. It is a real shame that, that one member of staff made it uncomfortable and the owner himself seems a lovely chap. He does need to review his staff and put somebody more hospitable in charge of the front of house. Maybe somebody that isn’t a child hater! Maybe also put a sign out front and advise people that are booking with kids that they are not child friendly! I think it’s pretty obvious that we will not be going back.

Lovely friendly atmosphere, we were welcomed and made to feel like locals (despite being from 'East' Yorkshire 🙂).

Just what we needed on a cold damp night. A warm, cosy, friendly pub still serving food. After a long journey from Southport we,re starving. The braised beef and sirloin all sold out so it looks like rump steak for two. I'm always dubious of rump so went for med/rare. My wife chose rare. Came plated up with fantastic chips salad and peppercorn sauce. We were knocked out by the size and flavour of the steak. Everything was dare I say it PERFECT. IT'S been a long time since our dining out experience has been so enjoyable made all the more special by the welcome from lanndlord/lady George and Jane, Maddy bar & table service and definitely not least chef .Andy. Thanks to everyone. Did I notice it's pie night on Weds? Will try and build our visit to the area around that.

Nice pub and good food.. All the stairs were difficult to climb. I have asthma and there isn't a lift. Someone with more disabilities would have had trouble getting to their room. Comfy beds

I M H O this is a pub for locals and regulars. If you are a "blow in" the welcome is rather plastic. Haven't tried the food so can't comment. Parking can be "interesting" (on the street which is so narrow it's a one way system or on a postage stamp car park but mind the kerb, lamp post, flower pots and other cars). Beer prices are a bit north of normal.

Stopped here for two nights attending a wedding in Thirsk. Our room was small in l loft conversion. Two single beds and two velux type roof windows which we opened at night due to the heat. Plenty of tea/coffee/hot chocolate and milk/sugar. The en-suite was small but functional. Probably worth picking a larger room if available. Management were friendly and can’t find fault with the food which was plentiful. Breakfast is fantastic and is included in the room rate.

Second time we have been for Sunday lunch. The girls serving were brilliant. The food was fantastic but not happy about the parking . Used to be my local for over 20 years. Would be better with a sign up to say customer parking only

Friendly welcome, helpful, great breakfast, good choice, room clean apart from the lack of pillow protecters, and clean mattress protecters,otherwise a very lovely stay

What a gorgeous friendly pub that serves the best pint of Guinness in the UK, George and his staff Alison and Maddie were outstanding caring,polite and extremely professional, I didn't eat there but what I got to see whizzing past me looked amazing, I will be back as soon as I can, thanks George.

Hebben hier ėėn nacht verbleven tijdens onze rondreis komende van Fountain’s Abbey. We werden hartelijk ontvangen door een vriendelijke dame. De twinkamer met twee eenpersoons bedden is ruim, heel goede maar zachte bedden en een eenvoudige badkamer met een goede douche. Alles heel proper. Er was voor ons een tafel voor dinner gereserveerd. Gelukkig want het eten is heel lekker, ruime porties en door vriendelijke mensen opgediend. De steak and ale pie en de hunters chicken zijn zeker aan te bevelen. Ook het ontbijt is heel goed: keuze aan cereals en de ontbijtopties: full english, zalm met roerei, …. The Swann ligt niet in een toeristisch dorp of stad maar is zeer aan te bevelen voor iedereen die degelijke overnachting met een lekker ontbijt zoekt voor een heel goede prijs. Neem dan zeker het dinner in de pub, je wordt er nog gelukkiger van.

Not made to feel very welcome unfortunately. Phoned beforehand to ask about checking in & the possibility of leaving bags as we were at a wedding nearby, told no, check in was 4-8pm. On arrival, told breakfast was strictly 8-9am which is fairly early for most people who have been to a wedding the day before. Food was ok. Upon finishing breakfast we were told to go get our bags and settle up downstairs, it was 9:20 and we felt rushed out, when you are paying £95 it was as if weren't welcome. No shower gel provided for a shower.

In twenty years I have not been to a place as warming as this. Food was excellent with service just as good. The staff were friendly and know what they are doing. This is how places should be run.

Visited on a Friday evening. Rang at 7pm to reserve a table after just arriving at a local premier inn and seeing the great reviews for the swan. We were accommodated and met with a lovely, friendly greeting. The food was just brilliant, huge portions which were just so tasty. The lamb and mint pie was just amazing, the chips also so good. My daughter (11) got the curry with 1/2 chips and rice, the portion was huuuuge! She rated the curry as excellent. We will definitely return when in the area again. We visited here for a meal as we had travelled nearby to attend a wedding the next day. Due to traffic we were hour late for our original booking but still pleased and helpful to accommodate us. What a find. Amazing food and service. We will definitely return for future meals and can't wait to try Sunday lunch too. Would definitely recommend!

we went to this little gem in the village as locals. The angel, our usual establishment is now closed so we have not a lot of choice of public houses to visit in the area. To our horror we came across a bloke which resembled Peter stringfollow. He appears to be the landlord at the swan. He was extremely rude and obnoxious to my fellow colleague as we were enduring a quiet drink after a hard day at work. we won’t unfortunately be returning to the swan for this reason and looking forward to the angel re opening where we will fell more welcome.

Again we visited for Wednesday pie night, it is the best pie night ever. Such good value for money, I had the steak pie, rich gravy and lean steak, so tasty. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, nice and warm, friendly staff, thankyou to all

Previously been for a drink at this immaculate, warm (fire on!), welcoming pub. Great selection of gins and made to feel so welcome! Went for Sunday lunch with our children, absolutely delicious, prompt service food tasty, cooked perfectly, lots of options. Lovely wine, waitress great with the kids! Thank you we will be back xx

Best fish and chips and mushy peas had in a long time

Me and my husband stayed here for the night before we headed to York for the day. We thought this place was absolutely fabulous. The food was delicious and good portions. It was a very cosy and warm restaurant and bar area, with two gorgeous log fires. The room was very comfortable and very cosy. We could not fault the hospitality of the owners, they were very friendly and welcoming. Great people and a great place to stay. Thanks.

We are relatively new locals and still hadn't tried The Swan however deiced to give it a go on a Wednesday evening- the place was packed! They were full for food however managed to squeeze us in as a table of 2 for their pie night. The food was wholesome and home made- yummy pies and a bargain too! Staff couldn't have been more friendly and lovely throughout our visit. We will be back but know to book a table- clearly very popular and people know good food! Great to have this place so close to us. Also a good range of drinks including local ales. Thankyou for making us feel so welcome!

Everyone is so kind and nice they all treat you like a family. The have the most amazing food ever the ultimate stake fries are just to good to be true.

We planned Sunday lunch with the family including the grandchildren and every plate was devoured very quickly. The beef melted in the mouth and the gravy was delicious. Puds for the kids we’re Eaton Mess and the Swan Sundae both given 10 out of 10....

Pie night is the best, although the pies are really stew with filo pastry tops.
