Great pub I come every Friday with my friends after sixth form

Friendly staff, a great selection of drinks, and tasty pizzas! I would fully recommend a visit here.the garden at the back is a beautiful place to spend the day and a pleasant surprise.

Always enjoy going to Johnson Arms, good beer relaxed atmosphere.

such a lovely pub! great outdoor area in the sunshine, with heaters for when the sun goes down. decent selection of drinks on tap and they provide lots of games as well :) excited to see some live music there and try their homemade pizza

Positively surprised with the pizza! Very good! Relaxed environment, not busy the last time I visited the place, discreet choices of beers and there is a big beer garden, it might get busy sometimes during the organised events

The food is amazing drinks at reasonable prices the staff are so welcoming and friendly can’t do enough for you I recommend this pub to anyone you won’t be disappointed I’ve been coming here for 3 years it’s always my first port of call the beer garden is amazing with barbecues and live music in the summer plus they do live music indoors on a Saturday night plus an amazing quiz on a Monday

Great local pub. Garden is perfect on a nice day, but for winter settle indoors and enjoy the great beers, maybe watch a bit of sport. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Dogs are happily accepted. Fresh cooked pizza. Enjoy!

This pub has been my local for years, and a fair but very true comment would be that I simply cannot see myself drinking anywhere else, the staff are the friendliest you'll find anywhere and even though the establishment has a name for being a student pub the locals ( obviously myself included ) are very well looked after, and lastly the johnnos has a fantastic garden that just doesn't get the credit it deserves ( OK in the summer ) so yes this a local that I would highly recommend to everyone )

Great pizza , welcoming, full, so good atmosphere and friendly bar staff , recommended as was visiting Trent Vineyard and needed food nearby.

A local pub in Lenton. They had a beer festival on in the beergarden so there was some live music. All the key Nottingham breweries were represented - Black Iris, Liquid Light, Neon Raptor, Castle Rock with their cask offers. The Black Iris offer was devine. Had a Bratwurst and chips from the kitchen. It was very well prepared. Lovely. We were there about 3pm - Not many punters in unfortunately. Hopefully it will fill out later. After all Forest was playing at home.

Very friendly local pub in Lenton/ Dunkirk area of Nottingham - would recommend it, as the drinks are reasonable price, and staff are very friendly and helpful...

A nice pub, after work, it's full of qmc staff so can be busy at that time. Some of the local regulars can be rude, but the staff are friendly and accomdating. Decent food, a bit pricey for what it is, but there's far worse in other pubs! I miss Zoe & Kay, the previous publicans, but the atmosphere is still decent at time of writing.

Went for the pub quiz. Good atmosphere. Wide beer selection. Enjoyed it. Note - didn't eat food.

Lovely pub with great food and beer options. Little bit on the expensive side compared to others in the area but more than worth it. Lovely beer garden in the summer too. Pie and a pint (with chips peas and gravy!)for £10 is a steal

Visited Friday 5pm-ish. Pub is sympathetically decorated in traditional Shipstone Brewery colours with historic photos of the Star Brewery & dray horses. Amazing beer garden with various areas, attractive planting & a lovely old pear tree. So refreshing that the friendly owner/manager had plenty of staff on duty early doors. One well informed barperson chatted about Shippo's history & the newer Little Star Brewery & showed me the photos. Thanks to him. Plenty of screens to watch sport & a stage for music outdoors. ( This is why only 4 stars for atmos as I wasn't keen on the singer although he was a good guitarist.) & the important thing: beer was delicious, we drank the Shipstones 4.2% which was a bit lively but poured gently. 3 Little Star ales on pump & some crafts.

Despite being a little out of the way, this pub is worth a visit. Decent enough beer and good food coupled with a really nice garden make the Johnson's Arms s pub worth a visit.

I've been quite a few times over the years, across different management, but I've always enjoyed it. A nice environment, especially if the weather is right for the garden, and a good selection of drinks. I don't have the food much but they do a fine burger and chips.

Shipstones Gold Star was beyond excellent

Nice interior with lots of nooks and crannies. Good beer selection and reasonable prices. Staff are welcoming and friendly. Clean bathroom with well lit entrance. Convenient access to adjacent taxi, bus stops and food outlets. (A kind of miro comercial ecosystem). Although I've never been in the daytime which could be difficult for parking as with anywhere in Nottingham. I found no issues in the evening. The 11pm curfew might not be the right flavor for those used to late drinking in town center venues but for those with work or college the next day it ticks the boxes.

Second time being disappointed by the miscommunication of this place - among staff themselves! We booked a dinner 2 weeks ago and CONFIRMED by their manager over emails and we arrived today and waited for 1 hour just to know they CLOSED the kitchen. WHAT'S WRONG WITH OUR BOOKING? They DID NOT even offer any compensation, at least for our cost of Uber coming all the way there (we would have been very happy if there were food as requested). A month earlier we booked a place here just to watch the game and have some food but they did not tell us they would not provide food that day, and we even called THREE TIMES that day to confirm. WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR COMMUNICATION? WOULD IT NOT BE POSSIBLE HAVING THE SAME INBOX TO MANAGE ALL OF THESE BOOKINGS? A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!

You can enjoy delicious drinks in the beautiful open garden with lush greenery. The store also has a variety of seats where you can relax, and I think the store can be used for a variety of purposes. This store also has a wall-mounted TV where you can watch sports. The store is quite spacious, so accommodating a large number of people will not be a problem. I think it's the best place to make new acquaintances and friends because all kinds of people come together. I would like to go there again the next time I go to Nottingham.

A Sunday afternoon visit, so not too busy. The Shipstones ales were all very tasty and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Since change of management - amazing 😊 Old review: Great pints and bar staff as well as waiters/waitresses. However, the owner is extremely rude hence the 2* rating (sorry for the incoming rant)... I got told we were allowed to bring food in from elsewhere on my first visit, and I used a little bit of sauce from the Johnson arms to go with my chips (one squirt of ketchup). The owner comes over very annoyed, saying that they won't make money off the ketchup as I didn't buy food in there, which is true. However, I had a tiny amount and there was about 15 of us who had about 4 drinks each, so we were clearly making them money. He was very rude about me using the sauce, and could have just asked politely for me to stop and I would have. On my second visit, after some time spent here, we again brought food in from elsewhere, thinking nothing of it after the owner having no problem with it last time and making sure not to touch the sauce. Despite this, again the owner stomps over, asking if we had asked permission to bring food in specifically on this night. We said no, as we had previously been told that it was fine (by him!!) about a week before. I'm not sure why he feels the need to be so cold about it. If they have a no food policy from elsewhere, please state it, or please state that you have to specifically ask before doing that, on specific days. I also want to note that there was others eating food from elsewhere in the restaurant who brought it straight in with them without asking the bar staff. He did not question them or mention that at all. It's almost as if he has decided he doesn't like me specifically as I used some of the sauce. I will be avoiding this pub.

Nice pint of Shipstone's here. Great big outside seating area. Had a bbq on the go (Friday evening)- looked and smelt great but was far too expensive so didn't bother. Bit too bright inside, I prefer The Boat around the corner....

A good sports bar in Nottingham. A range of matches on the many screens. And the local sports teams all came for grub. Does a mean pub quiz too. Nice spot.

Drink and atmosphere was decent however, the food is incredibly overpriced for what you get. Three small chicken strips and a bit of gravy for £5.79!!!

Went for a meal whilst waiting for car tyres, usually go with work mates, today was just a large coke and southen fried chicken burger, good sized meal in a decent place, watching sport for an hour, can recommend it.

Traditional pub. No frills. Just good beer in good condition and tasty food to compliment. On the cusp of the University campus and Queens medical Centre it is geared towards academia. And to top it all, they serve Nottingham brewery beer 🍺

First visit in a while and was with my grown up son who had never been here. Great that the cricket was on the TV as that was what we wanted. Also had great cider and beer options available. Garden space is great and I can't recommend enough. Will definitely be going back on a regular basis.

Pretty standard pub. Somewhat pricey, but not excessively so. Good outdoors seating and large screen to watch the match on.

8 of us went for meal at 16.30 on Saturday 8 May. Told we could NOT order a meal until 17.00. Can only order on THE APP and no paper menus. After great difficulty with the APP 4 of us had ordered a meal by 17.30 By 17.45 the APP had been CLOSED and impossible to order any food so remaining 4 people unable to order a meal. We did not know that we could only order food for 30 minutes! Those who ordered a meal had to wait for over an hour before food arrived. Impossible for those who could not eat to leave pub as half the group were still waiting for food. Ridiculous situation whereby you cannot order a meal at 17.45 on a Saturday evening.

Lovely pub. They do a bit of food, and have a great beer garden. Ideal for a socially distanced pint.
