Firstly, don’t pay any attention to the poor reviews - these are from before the place came under new management. Now - on to the place. Great front of house staff who looked after us well and were happy to chat with us. Superb food - the starter I had of Korean chicken wings was, if anything, too large - but the taste was amazing. The main of mussels in cider sauce was sublime. Unfortunately, these two courses left no room for a pudding - a pity, as Eton mess profiteroles sounding very tempting. I’d highly recommend The Jockey for a well prepared and presented meal.

Finally back to its best. Me & the wife Used to come here a fair bit a few years ago but it went suddenly down hill, tremendously. So we haven’t been back for over 2 years. However, We heard that it was under new ownership and after keeping an eye on the recent Tripadvisor reviews, we decided to give it another whirl. We were not disappointed. It’s Genuinely back to its best, even maybe better than the original. The Food was excellent, staff/waitresses were excellent and the beer was excellent. We were also Delighted when we walked in to see Ian back at the helm with running the restaurant. Him and his team always makes you feel welcome and looked after. The new owner Andy, who lives in the village even made an effort to come and introduce himself and thank us for coming in and giving them another shot. Really delighted to see them back to their best. Will definitely be returning shortly and would recommend anyone to get in there.

We enjoyed an amazing roast dinner- one of the best roasts we have had! All the staff were really friendly and service was great- highly recommend and look forward to returning!

Absolutely fantastic service, the staff were great. Very accommodating with alterations to the menu for my fussy kids. Delicious food, the best we have had in a pub in a very long time. Beautiful location and gorgeous decor, a real hidden gem.

Had a lovely family Sunday Lunch, well cooked and presented which was very enjoyable at a reasonable price the staff are all friendly and helpful. Also the owners of the jockey were very attentive to make sure that our experience was enjoyed. Definitely will be returning sometime soon

We have just returned from The Jockey after a excellent Sunday lunch. It is so nice to have it back on form with Ian at front of house. Staff are lovely & it had its old buzz back. We will certainly be going back very soon. Always did like The Jockey so we are so pleased it is back on form.

The Jockey is under mew management and what an improvement. We were a large party of 15 and the staff and food were superb! They handled some last minute changes, efficiently and professionally, great customer service. I’m so pleased to see how well they are bringing supported.

Having moved to the area nearly 2 years ago this was only my second visit, the first just drinks during the summer this for the food. The staff including the Matre De were brilliant nothing seemed to much trouble. The food was top notch gastro pub food, we could not fault anything bar one exception (not an issue to me) only 1 Veggie option on the menu, however i get the impression this would have been catered for if requested. All in all a very enjoyable visit that will not be our last. Just a Note its now under new management and from what i have seen its going to be a GEM.

Wow! They have certainly got their act together after a dip a while ago. The staff are brilliant and the food fantastic! Whine was spot on…what’s not to like. Love this place!

First time at The Jockey but been meaning to go for ages. We went on Mothers Day and it did not disappoint, the staff were great, courteous and friendly. The food was nicely presented and tasted glorious the venue is cozy and the tables nicely spaced even though it was obviously busy. We can’t wait to go again many thanks to all at The Jockey

Much better visit than the last one now under a new owner and a new chef. The wine was out of stock we ordered but we were offered an alternative which was good. The only negative I would say is my husband had a cheeseboard which was very poor value for £11 . Only three small pieces of cheese. Overall, I would recommend and go back

First time we've been back since change of hands and chef, and were delighted. A warm and welcoming atmosphere, more buzz than there used to be which was nice. Previously predominantly a restaurant but on this visit felt we would go back also just for a drink. Food was really tasty and plenty of it. Really enjoyed our visit and would go back.

We love the jockey and have eaten by a number of times. It takes us a while to drive there, it isn’t exactly around the corner from us but so worth the trip. The ambience is amazing. The decor is tasteful. The service is fantastic and the food never disappoints we would recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I had mussels which were very small and lacked flavour.

I had not been here for a few years so decided to book a table for Sunday lunch. There were 3 of us, all of us agreed that it was very good. The place has been beautifully set up and the décor is very old pub style with a hint of modern. The service was spot on and not overbearing, the staff were helpful and polite. The food was really very good and the portions a fair size. Good value for money too. All in all very good and we will return. One small glitch, (very small) , please get rid of the horrid knives, they are of an almost unusable design with the handles completely turned in the wrong direction !!

A wonderful Valentines Day meal with my family. The food, as always, is sublime! The staff extremely friendly, fantastic wine menu and the ambience just perfect. One of our favourite go to destinations. We will be back soon!

Lovely food and very good service as always but think they may have problem from all the rain we've had lately as there was a strong smell - like dirty dishcloths in the air.

Food is good but from a limited menu, mostly pub style fare with a few steaks. The ambiance could be nice but is missing something. Biggest problem by far is the service. Most servers seem to wish they were somewhere else and don't mind if you notice. Wine is delivered somewhere on your table for you to sort out. Plates of food are simply named then plonked down in your general area. Too bad; we need a 'nice' place in our area, but Jockey isn't really trying.

Good warm light , but slightly too low for me to read the menu..... All the rest......super.

not much atmosphere for a Friday lunchtime due to only 6 clients. 'Background' music intrusive and not complimenting the style of the restaurant. Staff great and food very good. Fish and chips wonderful - I don't think I have ever tasted better.

Good gastro pub food and good value compared to other such establishments

Great food, but would have loved a simple Crème Brulé or Warm Chocolate Brownie but will definitely be back regardless. Staff were super and we really enjoyed our mains.

The variety and quality of food was very good. The service was courteous, timely and professional and the pub is decorated very attractively. However it was quite cool in the restaurant and adjacent bar so some of us kept our coats on. We went to sit by the wood burner to eat our desserts but, in spite of the staff's best efforts, the wood burner didn't warm us up.

Greeted by ' hello GUYS' which we hate, why can't the staff greet and address clients differently?! Requested a table no where near tables/clients that have dogs, we were at first allocated exactly that....I very quickly sorted out with staff, who moved us to a better table. Food was very poor, chose beef Sunday lunch, the beef was tough, rest of food not enjoyable. Drinks, we were charged £25.50 for two glasses of white wine....extortionate !! we have been to The Jockey before....but will never return.

The restaurant was beautiful and food was delicious although a lot more gastropub than expected from the pictures on the website, the portions were huge. Unfortunately it was really cold at the inn which made it uncomfortable to enjoy dinner most ate dinner in coats 1 lady even left her scarf on. I didn’t see a fire on which is a shame as perfect time of the year for it. Staff were lovely. We spent a lot of money but left disappointed and cold. Probably wouldn’t return.

An enjoyable place to eat. Beautifully done out in the Xmas theme. Staff friendly and all had a permanent Xmas smile.

Service was non existent, we constantly had to go to the bar for service. We weren’t even given a drinks menu on arrival (when we got our food menus) Food was average, nothing too exciting and the menu was very small. We had also booked a table in the main restaurant but we were actually sat in the bar area because there was a function on. Which I wouldn’t normally complain about, but it was rather cold as we were near the door. I have been to the Jockey a few times and this does not reflect the quality that I experienced previously.

Food good, little expensive, screaming guest behind our table, not ideal, very young staff so service average.

Surprised that the turkey meal was piled on the plate including bread sauce and gravy. My preference would have been to choose if I wanted sauces or not and to choose which vegetables I wanted. As it was, the food was piled on top of each other. It didn’t make for an enjoyable experience.

There is a new chef and the food was excellent with a good menu.

Great local restaurant. Took guests from London here for Sunday lunch and wow'd them! Super atmosphere and good selection at reasonable prices.

A week before Christmas - few diners, no atmosphere. Table service was basic and uncoordinated. Staff were pleasant but lacked adequate training. Food was fine. Overall a very disappointing evening. Although we have had many great evenings at The Jockey in the past over a number of years, sadly, we won’t be returning.

A beautifully decorated venue with delicious meals. Probably due to it being peak time we did have to wait a very long time for our starter which was one shared platter, but apologies were made and accepted. The main meals were excellent and the service friendly and personable.

Really lovely festive lunch with friends. Lovely food, great staff and really looking forward to visiting again. The collaboration with The Elms hotel can only be a good thing and it will be lovely to this lovely pub packed to the rafters again. Great for locals such as ourselves.

Disappointing Sunday lunch. Although the starter was good, the roast beef was almost impossible to cut - asking for a steak knife helped slightly but I took the rest of the meat home for my Labrador. Sadly, our guest had chosen the same with equally tough meat.

I would be reluctant to visit again for Sunday lunch. The starter was delicious but the roast beef was sadly very tough, although it looked appetising. I asked for a steak knife which helped but not enough. On making a comment, I was told that that was the problem with topside of beef. We were entertaining a guest which was unfortunate as he chose the beef too.

Great place with lovely ambience, food is very good served by very friendly staff, nothing is to much trouble. We visited for Sunday lunch 10/12/23 , the munu offered a good range of options to suit most people. They added a 10% service charge, which I haven't got a problem with but would of liked to have known about before I had the final bill . ( That's just me). Would highly recommend.

Good choice of food. Great environment & setting. Worth the detour on our journey.

Car park was a tad odd as chaotic parking going on. So used the overflow. Food was delicious. Had to ask for steak knives there standard knives wouldn't cut through much. Service was tad slow but it was very busy every table taken whilst there so to be expected. And no fault of the restaurant we had a man next to us that was extremely loud you almost felt he was addressing the whole snug! Apart from that was really nice and would return.

Went late in the day food was perfect in every way and very good service would highly recommend

Booked for Sunday dinner, felt it was like they wanted to get us in and out, we arrived at 1:45pm and left at 2.45pm and that was having 2 courses! hadn’t even sat down 2 minutes and they wanted to take the drinks order, we were still clearly looking at the wine list, came back 5 minutes later and took our drinks order, then shortly after wanted to take out food order, the starters arrived I had “chicken liver mouse with brioche toast” the toast was burnt! they cleared out plates from the starter and before we knew it the mains were there, we both had roast beef unfortunately it was all cold, which clearly tell me that it had been sat there for sometime, even the veg was cold, and the potatoes undercooked. Highly disappointing as we were recommended to try the jockey!

Amazing service, especially from the lady who greeted us. The food was super duper. The atmosphere was relaxed and our dog fell asleep (an unknown thing when our like this). It was a bit chilly as we were in the bar and people kept leaving the door open and the window won’t close. But, that didn’t ruin our evening. Can’t wait to return. Honestly, I would be happy to pay more for such wonderful food!

Food fine. But when first asked if we were ready to order and told the server we needed 'just a couple of minutes more' with the menu before choosing, it was the last we saw of her for well over half an hour. Not good.

Always a welcoming amd reliable place to eat a delicious Sunday roast. This time I had the duck amd it was great. I also really like how you can talk to each other without having to yell. Service was friendly and, mercifully, not too pushy. Will be back.

Extensive menu , quality food cooked to perfection. Service is amazing, a must visit.

Went for a meal with my partner, food was poor, I had a beef burger and fries.. burger was cheap and tasteless, no bacon or anything inside, just one slice of lettuce and a slice of tomato with some Smokey relish and cheese, skin on fries definitely cooked in dirty oil, could taste it easily, and the sweet chilli slaw they serve with it is just gross, who mixes up onion and carrot and covers it with cheap sweet chilli sauce, vile! My partner had gammon, supposed to be hand cut chips but they were just frozen chunky chips, again cooked in dirty oil, he said he is was also poor, just salty and gross. Then the puddings were Just as bad, I had sticky toffee pudding, which was microwaved as it was half hot half cold, not even a nice one, just cheap and nasty, my partner had the cheese cake which I point blank refused to pay for, it was a gelatinous slab of crap! The nicest thing on the table was the £23 bottle of rosè! Atmosphere in here was ok, service was wasn’t bad, decor is nice, cleanliness was good, toilets were nice and clean and smelt nice. It’s a shame really because the place has loads of potential, unfortunately I’ve had nicer meals at wether spoons for a third of the price! Over all I wouldn’t recommend it for food or drink, it’s way over priced, and just not very good.

Four old friends meeting up & we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Beautiful decor, comfortable seating, delightful staff & most importantly very good food.

Our meal was lovely although the description of one of the mains was inaccurate therefore misleading. This was pointed out to staff who were great & passed on the feedback to the chef. Overall though a great evening!

Best meal out for ages. A quality and interesting menu, with every single item being high quality. The cost was fractionally higher than the average pub meal, but the quality was so much above 'average' as to make it well, well worth it. Cannot recommend enough.

Poor service.We waited 45mins for our starter, which was overcooked dry pigeon breast on top of an over cooked tart with inedible pastry. We were told it was being taken off the bill. Having arrived at 1.30pm by 2.45 we still hadn’t received our main course. With other dinners who had ordered theirs before us and still hadn’t received their food. We decided to call it a day . When I spoke to the manager we were told that a member of staff had gone home sick . Look everyone has bad days . But just let people know. Rather than let customers sit around looking at their watches in frustration. I was then asked to leave as I was upsetting the manager!! So we did . Not an enjoyable experience.

Excellent food, good service and nice people Good value for money

Overall our experience was good however all the vegetables were too aldente for our liking. The Lamb jus on my shank was a bit bland and needed something to give it a lift.

We came for Sunday lunch, which was expensive at £26.00 for 2 courses. The only vegetarian option was Gnocchi in a tomato sauce. It was very poor value for what it was. The ambience is good and the staff were attentive, it’s a pity they are not a good option for vegetarians.

A little gem in the countryside .clean and airy decor well put together, a very pleasant atmosphere, well managed with happy polite staff,food very good ,tasty well presented and well priced a good selection of wine to please everyone great coffee, all in all a must to visit a warm welcome from lucy and her great staff thanks we shall visit again .

A couple of small issues dealt with professionally, able to take our desserts home as we were too full to enjoy them there. Overflow parking is ideal as it gets busy. Main course roast lunches with plenty of vegetables is our preferred choice.

The Jockey is a gem. We've driven past it a few times but never gone in. Now we've tried it we are really delighted at the food, service and fantastic ambience. We can't recommend it highly enough. Well done to all of the staff.

Wev use this venue for Sunday lunches on a fairly regular basis and every time we are treated to an excellent meal and friendly service. Highly recommended.

Very very attentive staff and took food intolerances very seriously. Everyone was polite and friendly, everything was clean and tidy. One of my favourite places for a reason!

A very enjoyable set lunch experience, one we have enjoyed over several years. There is something for everyone on this menu and the presentation and cooking is always good.
