This was our first visit to the Jiyaan with some friends who already eaten there before. The complimentary poppadoms and dips were a nice touch and very fresh. My wife had the vegetable biryani and I had the lamb one and we both agreed that our choices were extremely tasty and beautifully cooked. The whole experience was excellent. We will be back!

This is the second time we have visited this year on a Groupon voucher and again we couldn’t fault the food which was delicious and the quality, quantity and presentation were excellent. The staff are very friendly and the service from Anhar and the young lady who also served us was also excellent. The restaurant has been relocated within the hotel since our last visit and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. I would have no hesitation in returning, especially if there is another Groupon deal!

6 days ago It was the second time we used a groupon voucher for the Indian meal there. The first time, the portions were small. The starter meat was just about ok but the paneer was not brilliant The mains were ok. The lovely young people made the evening so we thought we would give it another chance. It was a mistake. From the moment we got in we were treated as second class clients because we used a Groupon. The poppodoms were pitiful both in taste and size. The spice and yoghurt tray looked as if it had already been used and was half full. The kebabs were greasy and the portions were small. The main courses were better. Generally, if we were young men we would have left starving. They forgot our extra wine and didn't ask us during the meal if we were enjoying it and needed anything. The manager did not help when the staff were busy but just ordered them about. We will never go back to the Indian restaurant and certainly would not pay full price for the meal which is sad as we regularly drink in the George bar and have eaten good meals in there. Stop being mean and snobby. We usually go back to places after a Groupon meal and pay the full price if the establishment is good.We gave a £2 tip which I thought reflected the quality. of meal and service. Helpful

Fresh and not artificially coloured followed by superb main dishes a few sides and a beer or two . The food here is light fresh not at all greasy. Well seasoned and well worth coming again. Place was recommended to us by friends but sadly we were disappointed, just average I’d say. Early evening so wasn’t busy, things started well, lovely table by window, restaurant is nicely decorated and welcome was friendly. Poppadoms were crisp and expectations were raised when accompanied by chopped onion and fresh coriander. We asked for a wine list but not much choice, we chose a Rioja priced at £23 so was expecting it to be reasonable, sadly not. My wine rater app gave it a 2.9/5 and suggested a retail price point of £5.95 (I only checked the rating as it tasted so bad). It was a really cheap wine and whilst not off was sweet for this wine type, not helped by the dreadful wine glasses, thick glass and tiny. It’s not hard to get decent wine glasses and really not that difficult to buy a reasonable red wine for a few £’s wholesale. We left Half a bottle. Order taken but it took an age for the food to arrive, when it did naans were “floppy” as though they had been left waiting, rice had no taste. Mains were served in the smallest dishes making it really hard to add the rice which needed some flavour. The prawns were tough and chewy, either overcooked or defrosted too quickly. Meal cost £65. Not great and no comparison to the food served at Asha’s. Sadly a miss from us and we won’t be back,

Went here last minute phoned in advance and asked if we pay cash can we have the groupon deal we were told yes When we arrived we were shown to a table. I explained to the waiter about the groupon deal. This is when it went downhill. The waiter denied we were told we could have the deal and was quite rude. We were with friends and it was getting embarrassing so decided to order off the menu The food was average at the best. The service was poor We had 5 drinks between the 4 of us While eating we had to listen to nursery rhymes on the sound system when we asked if they could chat the music we were told it is what it is apparently automatically plays music The bill arrived £75. I decided it was not worth that and paid £50 the rude manager came out threatening to call the police I explained the problems we had a we felt the food and service did not warrant £75. After much discussion I paid a further £10 why I don’t know but probably because the manager kept going on Please read my other reviews and you will see I eat out often and always do reviews I am fair in my reviews and never have I had to do one like this My advice. Visited on a Saturday with a Groupon voucher, which made it excellent value. Starters of fish Amritsar and lamb chops were good. Chicken Taka Tak and lamb pathia were great tasting with the lamb very tender. Our voucher included a dessert, but we were too full, so decided to give this a miss. Service seemed a little rushed at the beginning which meant one of the main courses was initially wrong, but was soon rectified with an apology, so not a big issue. Couldn't fault the food and with a voucher the meal was excellent value. We eat out in Solihull on a regular basis and will be trying Jiyaan again.

With the significant amount of competition in and around the town this restaurant needs to try a lot harder. This was our first visit to this restaurant and on arrival we were asked about drinks but was then informed there was no drinks menu available. My lager and lime came with no lime, I was told there was no lime anywhere in the hotel. We weren’t offered popadoms, they just brought them, then charged for them. Whilst one of our four was still eating their starters the waiters cleared our empty plates. The mains were average at best with a balti served in what can only be described as a small coal bucket instead of the usual sizzling balti dish, most odd. As I say with the amount of competition locally this is one we won’t be returning to or recommending.

My partner and I visited on Saturday 26 October on a Groupon and not only was the deal great value for money, but the food and service were simply fantastic. I would say this is my new, favourite Indian but it is quite pricey for us without a deal, however, it would be worth every penny at full price. Everything was cooked to perfection and the waiting staff were very attentive. We swapped out our wine for soft drinks, which were the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Oh, and the garlic naan and carrot pudding were in a league of their own :) It's fair to say this dining experience was 5* all the way and I would not hesitate in recommending Jiyaan to locals and/or visitors to Solihull. Thanks for the warm welcome guys, we hope to visit again in the not too distant future. It was most definitely worth going out on such a horrible evening!!

Arrived to a very warm welcome and shown to our table. We received a lovely glass of rose and complimentary popadoms. We ordered the chicken tikka starter and I had the chicken jalfrezi and my husband had the prawn biryani. The food was presented beautifully and the chicken tikka was extremely tender. The chicken jalfrezi was a bit spicier than I have had from other restaurantsBut I was disappointed that it was not all breast chicken, which is what I usually receive from restaurants. It was tasty and the naan bread was lovely and soft. There were plenty of prawns in the biryani but very greasy. All in all the food was 7/10 but the service was 8/10.Our waiter Anhar, who yet very attentive and helpful, did ask us to make a review of the service we received but then went on to tell us that it was his first week working at the restaurant, yet in looking through earlier reviews, there are reviews which mention him dating back to July???!All staff were friendly and accommodating.

FANTASTIC. **********We visited the Jiyaan last night for a mid week family meal. We took advantage of a Groupon offer. What an amazing experience the four of us had. The food was exquisite, I'm a vegetarian & the food was some of the best I've eaten in an Indian restaurant. We were given complimentary popadoms with all the pickles, yoghurt etc on arrival. Included in our Groupon deal we all enjoyed a glass of wine. My papri chaat starter was delicious, plus my saag paneer balti. The rest of the guests enjoyed chicken dansak & chicken saag main courses & again, devoured the food! We had steamed rice & peshwari naan, all so fresh & piping hot. Also included in our offer was deserts, I had an Indian carrot type cake, it was gorgeous, all warm with nuts inside. There were other Indian deserts available plus lots of varieties of ice cream. My husband had the tandoori lamb chops to start, he said they were the finest he'd ever tasted & the texture was that of fillet steak! The service was excellent, not full on but very attentive. Special mention must go to our waiter Anhar who was so helpful (we didn't know which dishes to go for as there was so much choice) he was so knowledgable re all the dishes. He was so polite & friendly but definitely not intrusive as we have experienced in some local establishments in the past. All in all it was a wonderful evening with food & service of the very highest standard & quality. Thank you so much to everyone @ The Jiyaan, we'll be back! And ..........if you can bag a Groupon deal too, it works out @ less than £12 per head for a 3 course meal (not a set menu) plus wine!!!! Such good value.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

At the end of our meal, the restaurant staff asked diners to leave a trip advisor review, and I am pleased to honour that request In early August 2019, I visited this restaurant as part of a group. Because of the size of our party, the restaurant naturally asked the group to pre order. One of the diners in the group indicated on the pre order that they gave a nut allergy. This was acknowledged by the waiting staff who were very specific when serving the diner, assuring the person that the meal contained ‘no nuts’. However, on taking one or two bites of their meal, the person became concerned. On close inspection, the diner in question observed peanut shavings in their meal. Over the course of the evening the person became increasingly unwell. So unwell were they that a trip to A&E was necessary. Thankfully, the medical staff at A&E were able to quickly deal with the allergic reaction, and the diner returned to full health relatively quickly. However, as I’m sure readers will be aware, the incident could have ended very differently and could have proved fatal for the person. The sum total of the restaurant’s compensation was to refund the cost of a (mostly uneaten) meal. Whilst the restaurant management and staff went to great pains to assure us that the diner in question’s food had been prepared separately, the evidence of that diner’s reaction, necessitating emergency medical treatment, would suggest that at best there was cross contamination. If a restaurant kitchen is unable to deal with guests with food allergies when these have been notified more than 24 hours in advance, then I would be very concerned about their broader food hygiene standards. If you have a nut allergy, I would advise you to find an alternative establishment.

They only serve Bottled and Keg Beers and offer a comparatively small menu for an Indian Restaurant. Their policy appears to be to serve very bland Indian food for what is perceived to be the British market. I have a health issue with tomatoes and there was a high predominance of tomatoes in most of their Lamb dishes- even the Samosas had tomatoes in them!.One starts off with 'Complimentary Poppadums and Pickles'. What we received amounted to less than 1 normal Poppadum for 2 persons with only 3 Pickles served whereas everywhere else serve 5 pickles. Never before have we needed to ask for more Poppadums. To be tomato free, I ordered a double Lamb Adaraki starter. I love to have a good Tarka Dhal with my Indian meals; what I got was a small portion of lentils seemingly devoid of fried garlic and fairly tasteless. Generally the decor and the Service were Ok.

Cannot fault the food it was really good however the service was unfortunately not good and the ultimate crime of an Indian restaurant running out of beer on a Saturday. We were seated quickly as we had booked while we were waiting to order we noticed another table were complaining... we thought nothing of it as they seemed to be overly fussy. When the waiter came over take to our order he was very distracted by something going on at the other side of the restaurant, again we let it slide and he took out order. We waited approximately 20 minutes for our starters when they came we decided to order some more drinks however we told our choices of either Cobra or Kingfisher were sold out, luckily there is anjoining hotel bar that had more options, we ordered our drinks, while we were waiting another table ordered and were served bottles of Kingfisher.....we enquired about this but we were told again they had sold out.We waited an hour for our mains and just as long for our drinks, we had to remind them.None of the waiters or waitresses checked with us asked if we wanted more drinks or if our meals were ok, we asked for bill and waited for that, then had to wait for card machine, there were no mints or finger towels given with the bill. The waiter asked us if we had a good time so we explained our frustrations with the service, he did apologise and tried to explain there was a large conference happening at the same time.... this kind of service doesn’t happen all the time.....While the food was good there are other Indian restaurants in Solihull that other the same quality of food and quality of service. This restaurant suffers from being run by a hotel with hotel staff, there didn’t appear to be a restaurant manager and the waiting staff seemed to lack training. It’s not authentic Indian dining experience, good food poor service.

This was our first visit to The Jiyaan but it wont be our last. We started the evening by having a drink in the Ramada's bar which has a warm pleasant atmosphere, very relaxing after a busy day, setting us up nicely for the evening ahead. When we were ready we were shown through to The Jiyaan were the staff and management were very attentive and only too pleased to talk us through the menu adding their own personal recommendations. We ordered the mixed starter which was delightful, our personal favourites being the kings prawns and fish, . Our mains were also lovely but after the fish starter we wish we had continued on the fish theme, but we will have to try this next time. The wine was also very nice and not over priced. Our table had a view of the local church which made for a pleasant change to the normal views to be found in a town restaurant. Would highly recommend The Jiyaaan to anyone.

Booked our Christmas Meal at Jiyaan around a month ago. From the off things were not looking good as it took 30 minute to get the correct food and drinks menu and another hour to get the starters on the table which by the way were very nice. Well another 45 minutes and the mains turned up, again tasty and well presented. We decided not the order desserts as we though we might miss Christmas all together. I must stress I do not blame the staff they tried there best as there was several large parties to deal with, its was poor management not making sure there was enough staff to cope. So in all I will not be going back as I'm not getting any younger and every minute counts!

Booked a table of 10 well in advance of the date and seated promptly on a table at the rear of the restaurant, a couple of other large parties also in situe. Given set menus at 8 and asked quickly for the main menu as we wanted to choose. At 8:30 asked if we could order drinks but lady could only take food so we did that. Drinks order then taken by someone else but a couple of our party went to the hotel Bar!Starters too an absolute age and served around 9:30 - getting hungry and agitated at this point - starters were good and well presented with only a chick pea dish a bit naff.Cleared the plates to end of table to assist them and hopefully get the mains quicker but this didn't happenAsked when food coming at 10 ish and said 5 minutes - came out at 10:15 and again nice food but way too long to arrive and past wanting it reallyCouldn't order drinks easily and very slow service will prevent us coming here again and will not recommend to others

Had to try this as we’re local Silhillians. Opposite St Alpheage church is really handy after a movie at touchwood. My onion bhajis were brilliant. The papri chaat for my wife was poor- try the one in Tipu Sultan and its amazing. Tak Tak chicken was nothing like the dish should be ! Ambience and staff were brilliant, so can’t knock that . With Asha’s now coming to Touchwood, Punchali , Tap &Tandoor, Tge Delhi , Spice Club all round the corner, this business will need to up their game in Indian cuisine to survive and make it a success. I suppose being next to Ramada hotel helps as it makes life easy for a quick curry !?

One of the Best Indian Restaurant in Birmingham, I have tasted my favourite dish. 2 year ago I gone to India, where I visited the Punjab, and there I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with naan chapati, I still did not forget the taste of that chicken tikka masala, when I had returned to United Kingdom, I often search for the Indian Restaurant in Birmingham, where i can get the actual taste of Indian cuisine. One Day unfortunately I went to The Jiyaan Indian Restaurant, where I ordered the same dish (Chicken tikka Masala with naan chapati), how much i love that taste, I can’t explain I licked my fingers after finish. And now every Saturday in use to go there and gradually I start to taste some other Indian dishes.

I joined family and friends for a dinner celebrating a 30th Birthday. She had chosen this place and having never eaten there I had no idea what to expect. I was continually surprised- the restaurant is in the Ramada Hotel and yet the prices don’t reflect that and neither does the sheer size of the curry! We were a party of 10 and looked after very well. The staff were friendly, conscientious and nothing was too much even considering there were a lot of us. They worked very hard and were true hospitalians. The ambiance in the restaurant was great in a full restaurant, with families, couples and people dining on their own. They decorated the table and we enjoyed the night very much. Just as everyone was happy and complimenting their various curries, the spices, the quality and quantity- the menu truly caters for everyone even the daring friend who wanted a very spicy curry and asked for more heat! His pregnant wife asked for a mild curry and they delivered. We also had her grandmother with us who was too shy to try ordering from the English restaurant jealous and even asking to try it as everyone was so happy with it. The biggest surprise of all was an amazing platter of cake at the end to which the waiters, waitresses and manager sang happy birthday! Truly a wonderful experience and I will be recommending to anyone who enjoys Indian food, in an authentic restaurant- including fussy eaters as the manager Shennel and his team were nothing but welcoming and accommodating! Well done to all.

Having been here before, I wanted to treat my daughter to a meal at what was once my favourite restaurant. I booked a table for us and on arrival were shown to a table for two. This table was so close to the tables next to us that the waitresses kept knocking my chair, as did all the guests trying to get past me. I asked if it was possible to move tables - there were at least two other tables free at that time, and was told that none were available. A couple arriving 20 minutes after us were shown to a table for four, and a couple who have just arrived some 30 minutes after we arrived have been shown to the last remaining table for six. I was very disappointed with this experience and we have now ordered our food to take home. It is unlikely that I will come here again.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and as very busy, so good job that we had reserved a table,We shared two 'sharing platter', (Jiyaan and the deluxe combo) which were both very good. Our mains were: Chicken Pathia, Lamb Jalfrezi, Chicken Balti and the Goan Fish Curry. Had two mushroom pilau rice, a peshwari naan and a keema naan. With the exception of the Fish Curry, which didn't have a great deal of taste/spice, the meals were very good. The service was very friendly.Would definitely go back.

Visited this evening having booked on a Friday for 715pm.First impressions count and for us this Indian has a few advantages which provides it with the X factor. So what are they ......?Well - location, location, location !Situated in the heart of Solihull within The Ramada hotel it enjoys FREE town centre parking. So you won’t get cold or wet - plus you’ll save around £5 parking fee.We enjoyed a great table with views through lovely sash windows overlooking historic beautiful St Alphege church. The restaurant is well decorated, nice spot lights, Indian art etc all in a cozy old building. This evening we were served by Miz, he looked after us well advising us on various meal options. We both made good choices, the mixed platter for two as a starter was superb, lamb, potatoes, chicken, onions all on a sizzling metal plate. Highly recommend this dish.Main course again excellent - there is a wide choice of fish, meat, chicken and vegetarian options. Side orders too and I recommend the Aloo Gobi. The food was excellent I describe it as authentic, I worked for many years around Handsworth in Birmingham and was fortunate to enjoy a range of home cooked Indian meals - you can’t beat them but this restaurant is close for me in terms of taste. We left around 830pm and the restaurant started to fill up. The restaurant is part of the hotel which means you can relax in the bar and lounge areas afterwards should you choose to.This is a great restaurant within part of the original historic building, enviable location, free parking, perfect food, excellent service, 10% loyalty Scheme, relaxing, ideal for celebrations with private rooms available for larger groups.I can’t recommend this place enough. Our first visit - not the last.

We ate here as we were staying in a nearby B&B. Although it was a Friday we were seated immediately as it was early evening. We were served complimentary poppadums' and dips and our orders taken. We are from a one-restaurant town so our food arrived what we thought was relatively quickly after ordering. We had the KADHAI CHICKEN & LAMB BHUNA GOSHT. Both were obviously freshly made with quality ingredients, including the meats, and appeared free of colourings, unlike our local. Both were full flavoured and we complimented the main with Aloo Gobi and Naan bread. my Keema naan was particularly good with the meat well flavoured and again appeared free of colourings, unlike the bright red filling that we are used to. The one slight issue was that all though 'parking is available' this is attached to the adjacent hotel - and if you are not a guest, parking here will cost you £6 for up to 3hrs. There was a council (?) parking area a short walk away which was free after 6pm which was fine, apart from the pouring rain. All in all it was an absolutely delicious meal and I very much expect that when we stay in the area another time we will again eat at the Jiyaan - and maybe order even more to try!

All food really high quality including the Naans/Kulcha. Lime pickle is excellent and a lovely reddish hue. You get home-made puppodums and some sauces/dips to start with as standard - which is always welcoming. Restaurant is quite brightly lit - but this helps you see the lovely food! Lovely service too - and great value. Some people from Solihull were there when we were and they really enjoyed it having decided to try it on a personal recommendation from a friend of theirs. The restaurant doesn't stand out from its surroundings - yet it is doing well and was 85% full mid week when we were there - always a good sign. I hope they don't change much at all in the future!

A solid 3.5, but there is no ambience and found it to be really pricey. We came in early on a Friday and the place was empty. The heaters were all off and the restaurant was quite cold Inside, we even had to wear our jackets for a while. There is little to no ambience, though the tablets are nicely set, there are makeshift walls or curtains blocking certain areas of the restaurant. The menu is extensive and had a lot of options, veggie and non veggie but it was REALLY pricey for what it was. We got two starters and they were both very small for £5 each, the main courses didn't come with Naan or rice, and each rice portion is super tiny for almost £3.5 . My Indian relatives would be in revolt if they ever saw the little amount of rice for that much. The food was nicely seasoned, though I missed some fresh coriander or lime. The service was extremely friendly and the highlight of the visit but with these prices I would not recommend it. There are many other options out there with a MUCH better value.
