Food was the worst I had... if these reviews are real then these people need to get out of knowledge and try something else. Please don’t waste your time and bar earned money in such a place like this. Food was so poor and service was a big fat zero too.

Me and my family (6 of us in total) ordered at 5:30PM New Years Eve! Despite how busy they were they got our order done within the hour. They were friendly and accommodating. We have tried all of the curry houses in the local area and this one is by far the best. The chicken in all our dishes was tender and chunky. Excellent quality and flavoursome. The chicken pakoras were the best i have ever eaten, at other places I have found them to be quite dry but these were juicy and tender. My dad Toni had Egg and Chilli Balti with spinach which was an amazing dish for vegetarians packed with flavour. Even down to the poppadoms, which were light and crispy. They provided up with plenty of extra sauces so we had enough to go around. Considering that this was one of their busiest nights of the year they delivered us high quality dishes. 10/10 visit over all, will be getting all our curries from here in the future :) Thank you Bilash Team!

We were having a drink at The Greswolde Arms in Knowle and decided we fancied a take away. The Bilash was directly opposite, so popped in and ordered a take out. The staff are very welcoming and the food was absolutely amazing. We ordered Pakora`s, prawn jhenga massala, chicken tikka balti and garlic Naans and all were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!

The place itself is far from plush, but the bonkers layout adds to it's charm. I've eaten here over 20 times and had more takeaways than I care to count. I've probably had a few average dishes, but overall the food is full of flavour and delivered with pride. Lamb madras is tip top.

As a group of 7 friends we formed a 'curry club' where we visit a different Indian restaurant each month and rate it out of 10.For a mid-week visit this restaurant was fairly busy but service was prompt and polite. Our main meals were declines and our only criticism is that the raita that came with the poppadoms was disappointing as it was very watery and lacked flavour. We got offered our third round of drinks free which we declined as we were pushed for time but we felt this was a nice touch.

Ate here on Saturday for the first time. Unusual location being an old property with narrow stairs and low beams but really cosy and welcoming. No need for piped music, so many conversations going on there's a wonderful hubub of background noise - but because of the way the restaurant is sectioned off it's never too loud and you don't feel you have to raise your voice. Service was very good, knowledgeable and courteous and the food was very flavourful. A good choice for a happy evening with friends (and a very reasonable bill at the end!).

7 of us are here on Friday 18th January, we were on a table upstairs. Very friendly service and the varied curries were enjoyed by everyone, we decided that this would be our new regular. Also it wasn't as noisy/hussle and bustle as some of the other eateries of a similar variety that we have eaten in as a group in knowle previously so a lot easier to chat in a group. Came here last night with a group of old work colleagues, my first visit despite driving past many times. Decore is a little dated, but very clean and tidy, as were the toilets. The staff were efficient and polite, shame about the pilau rice being spilled on, but these things happen and the waiter was very apologetic, no harm done. I went for the Tandoori fish to start with, no complaints here, very tasty with a nice salad. For main I went for Chicken Jalfrezi, madras hot and pilau rice. Boy, oh boy, was it hot, closer to vindaloo really, but it tasted great. Plenty of chicken, loads of onions and peppers, plus quite a few chillies, unfortunately the rice was poor, quite lumpy, hence the score not being higher. Price worked out at £22 each, that included two rounds of drinks and tip. Very reasonable. Would I return, yes, but hopefully the rice will have improved.

Part of the delight of the Bilash restaurant is the friendly welcome and the quiet courteous service one always receives. The menu is varied and service is swift. First impressions were surprising. It’s not your typical Indian restaurant, it’s more like a Georgian tea room with low ceilings, beams and creaking floors which makes quite a nice change. I was shown to a table promptly and offered the menu and drinks immediately. The choice is extensive with a plenty of chefs house specials along with the ‘normal’ fayre. My meal was served promptly and was of an excellent quality and piping hot. The staff were very friendly and checked back to ensure everything was OK with my meal. I was pleasantly surprised at the price of the meals and far less than I have paid previously for lower quality. I will definitely return when next in Knowle.

When the food came the waiter didn't seem to know what dishes he was serving , he gotta meal mixed up and my partner had to wait another 10 minutes for his and could hear the wait shouting in the kitchen. The food was not very good quality and the waiter was standing watching us eat the food and we were the only people upstairs eating which made me feel very uncomfortable. I've eaten inside the restaurant in the past and my experience was better than my takeaway experience. The staff are polite and friendly which is definitely very important but it would be great if the food could have matched the service!! Decided on a takeaway last night so I ordered a couple of dishes from Bilash. Firstly the obvious notable was both dishes were balked out with copious amounts of onions, seriously who wants to eat mouthfuls of onions I ended up throwing half of both dishes away! One was a 'lamb' dish the other 'chicken' - sadly the lamb was dry pieces of meat that tasted like it had been sitting around for a while before it ended up on my plate (I don't want to give that too much thought) Not much chicken in the second dish either and the dishes were heavily doused with colouring. The taste of both dishes was pretty poor and bland I have to say the experience was hugely disappointing. There's a lot of good Indian cuisine out there gone are the days when Indian restaurants can serve us poor quality food thinking that we don't have a clue, we know what's a decent dish and when it's poor. Sorry Bilash you totally missed it. If you genuinely value your customers you're going to have to offer us decent food if you're going to avoid honest feedback on what you're serving us. As for the positive reviews for Bilash I would challenge anyone to rate my takeaway dishes that I received as good food and if they did well clearly they can't tell the difference between good and bad. I wish I hadn't wasted my money ..I'll be doing my wallet a big favour by thinking twice before ordering a takeaway from Bilash again!

There are 5 Indian restaurants in Knowle which is amazing for the 1 mile high street which it is. The Billash stands out not for just is quaintness as a black timbered building and the cosiness of its interior, but for its food which has been consistently excellent for the 15 years since we first visited. The service is also efficient and friendly and the draught beers (inc Cobra) are an added attraction. There is a choice of the usual anglicised dishes, but in addition there are some Chef's specials to tempt those wanting something a little different. We will continue to return as this restaurant is consistent in its excellent cuisine.

Puddings (although no-one goes to a curry house for pudding) are those mass produced frozen blobs full of coloured additives. Awful house wine. Ok Indian lagers.

Visited with work colleagues on a Wednesday evening. Welcoming, friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the menu. We had poppadoms, starters, 4 mains and assorted sides, beers, G&Ts and a bottle of wine for £30 a head. The food was excellent, and I couldn't fault it. Will definitely be going back. TIP: only just over £10 in a cab from the NEC hotels, so much better value than trying to get in to Birmingham.

Great service, good menu and a nce atmosphere. The food was good value and tasty, although I would have preferred my medium hot curry to have been hotter. Definitely one to go back to!

Turned up on a Saturday evening , without booking a table around 7.00pm , but the staff were really helpful and managed to find us a table for 2 , the building is very old with exposed beams and low ceilings , but that adds to the atmosphere .The restaurant is on 2 floors but the stairs are rather steep , anyway the food is amazing , not just chilli hot but spicy and aromatic just how proper Indian food should be , good choice of meat and vegetarian meals , nan bread is amazing , Food was served piping hot , and the Balti was especially good , never bothered with dessert , all in all a great place and reasonable priced

A very busy restaurant, but staff quickly made sure they found us a table, actually upstairs at the window. The range of dishes was quite typical, but the food was served piping hot, was full of flavour. Staff were attentive, friendly, helpful in your choice of dishes. Pink mint sauce with kebab: a little different, but delicate flavour. A very decent wine selection: the Chablis was excellent.

Bilash is set in a quaint old building with some very low beams & ceilings. The upstairs is accessed via a slightly rickety sounding staircase but this all adds to the charm. The food is "old school" with an extensive menu. The naans are particularly amazing! The desserts are standard, frozen ice cream based ones which is a shame. Only complaint is that if you order coke then it's always fairly flat as it comes from a large bottle. Also, the coffee is served with condensed milk, not cream, which isn't to everyone's taste. On one occasion, the milk was off and although it was replaced, I didn't get much of an apology and having been offered it on the house would have been a nice gesture. That said, the staff are good & they always offer us a liquer on the house at the end of the meal. Well worth a visit.

My husband & I visited the Bilash 28/5/13 for our anniversary. It was a last minute decision to go out so we had not booked, however the waiters looked after us from the minute we walked through the door. For a Tuesday it was quite busy, it's a very small place, however the decor is amazing, it's quirky & different with the low & beamed ceilings. The ladies rest rooms were absolutely spotlessly clean.Waiters were attentive & the food was totally awesome! We loved every minute & we will deffo be returning. I would totally recommend this restaurant.

I always go to Bilash when I want an Indian and it never lets me down. My favourite dish is the chicken korma accompanied with a peshwari naan and both are consistently full of flavour and delicious. I find at other restaurants that kormas don't have that much flavour and peshwari naans can be a bit dry which is why I always go back to Bilash! The service is fantastic both when eating in and taking away. Keep up the good work Bilash! :)

The Bilash has been up and down but does seem to be on the up now. It was packed on Saturday and four of us had a really good curry. Great fish starters, good mains, nice lentil dhal, good chick peas, offered free drink at the end. Nice tasty mains and all in all a great night out. I'll be back.

Never had a bad meal here and the staff are super friendly. The only negative is the bar area is rather tired looking and the tables are crammed together, but tpo be fair the staff are so attentive and the food so nice you can put up with that!

Having been living in knowle for the last 6 years I have tried I think every restaurant and takeaway it has to offer, and can honestly say the Bilash it's not only the best Indian restaurant in Knowle but the best restaurant in Knowle and surrounding area. Always friendly staff, good portion sizes great tasting food and in unique and cosy setting. It's fair to say my wife and I have eaten here 50+ times and we like good food. Prices are good and service is always polite and helpful. Booking is advised on the weekends as it isn't a big restaurant but that adds to the charm.

Poor service and attitude from the staff. Food was bland and cold, we wanted over an hour and half to be served cold slop. And to top it all they tried to over charge.

We were staying in the Travelodge over the road and as it was chucking it down we decided a quick scamper to Kismet would be sensible. I’m glad we did as we really enjoyed the food and service. We chose king prawn with garlic and chilli, tandoori lamb chop, then meat thali and duck bhuna. All of the food was well presented, tasted great and was very filling. We ended up leaving some as the portion size was a bit much for us.

Mixed feelings this evening - three of us had a very enjoyable meal - we all had starters (can recommend Tandori Mix) and mains (Lamb Balti with mushroom Bhaji and Peshwari Naan was excellent). Drinks all good. My only disappointment was to be charged £1.50 for my doggy bag - that was a first for me (I usually over-order so that I have lunch for the next day) - won't do that again ,on principle. Shame, but there we go. Staff were pleasant and helpful
