Shirley Spice in Solihull

The geographic information was ok ish. Jumped from a quarter of a mile away to ‘just passed your property’.

Terrible food. Have family that live in Shirley. When we visit we always stop off here and get the kids a curry. They always look forward to it. Decided we would eat in while they made the take away. Onion barge and chicken pakora starter. Both. not the best. Batter was soft and not crispy. Tandoori fish with salad main. Salad looked old and one of those ones out of a bag. Fish was no way tandoori as didn’t have the colour. Not good had a few mouthfuls and left the rest. King prawn rogan Josh. Not one king prawn in it! Complained to waiter. He said they cut up the king prawns! We said that’s so you don’t have to put so many in the dish. We ordered king prawn and paid for king prawn, so would expect whole king prawns. The bits of prawn that were in the sauce were tough and not nice. Left it as couldn’t eat it. Very poor quality food. They halved to price of the king prawn dish on the bill. We paid over £100 with the takeaway as well. Won’t ever eat there again and grandchildren will be having a takeaway from another Shirley curry place. They should be ashamed of the food they are letting their drunk again chef( waiters words,not mine)send out of the kitchen.

A great curry last night and very warm welcome. Now I live near Derby my visits are far less frequent, but the hospitality I received was very friendly and the food excellent. Thank you

I ordered a chicken tikka Balti, rice, popadoms and naan bread. They didn’t bother sending the naan bread - the other items were ticked off on the receipt so I know they were checking the order. The curry had a slightly metallic taste to it like it had come out of a tin. Rice was ok but cold on arrival. Delivery time was ok but overall I expected a lot better from a Birmingham curry house and not fulfilling the order after it’s been paid for is out of order. I’ll order from somewhere else next time. In retrospect I wish I’d checked the reviews before ordering as wouldn’t have bothered.

Old favourite curry restaurant because it is always a reliable option. Three of us went for an early curry just after 6pm and it started quiet but soon started to fill up. We had two starters and three main courses with a couple on nan breads and a rice. They also brought us poppadoms and raita sauce. All the food was of good quality and was served quickly. They warmed the food up before serving and served it over a tray with a candle to keep it hot. With ample drinks it still came to less than £70.

The Lamb Patia was very sweet. No sourness & not al ALL spicy / hot. Very disappointed Previous order for this dish was hot & sour

Less paneer cubes in the curry and the vegetable curry was not as good what it used to be.

Great food, ordered a few times so must mean I like it a lot, only one minor thing is I think it’s slightly too heavy on spice, maybe cumin too strong almost powdery taste. That’s constructive criticism by the way, I will still order again from here without a doubt. Butter chicken was amazing!!! Perfect 👌

Ordered Takeaway which I wasn't sure they did.Have been into the restaurant before a few times and always found it enjoyable, anyway loved the fact I was greeted with a handshake at my front door, poppadoms really fresh and food lovely, will definitely be using them as my go to Indian now for sure.

This Shirley Spice is really poor and quality of food is so bad that when I told the manager that the food is off , and also it stinks. I was told that I must not complain about this curry and his staff was very intimidating and rude after long argument I was able get the refund. Thank God. ...I did not eat it only the foul smell suggested I must not consume the food. ⚠️ Caution, Not compliant with Health and Safety , did not record the incidence , in case further investigation needed by the appropriate authorities!

Food cold . tasteless and bland very disappointed will not return and not the cheapest either.

The wait was two hours and the food came and all four of us could not eat it - it was swimming in oil and tasted disgusting when said it was not nice they ignored our comments and said it’s the same chef

Pushed as much as they could in the bag and squashed the curry at the bottom of the bag breaking it and spilling everywhere. Wouldn’t bother ordering again.

Five of us went for an early curry and were nit disappointed. Started with poppadoms and one of us had a paneer starter. Five main courses and we all enjoyed what we te. Mine was Meat Dhanssk and the meat meat was so tender and the pineapple added a nice sweetness. One of us had an ice cream to finish. Add in a few drinks and at £90 it was excellent value for money Fast and friendly service, it has slways been consistently good on our visits.

Absolutely the best curry ever. Staff are very friendly and make sure you are very welcome. Also they ask you how was the food. It's out of this world a credit to everyone of the staff. The meat is so lovely and tender absolutely melts in your mouth and brilliant service a credit to you all

A very rare Tuesday night curry for us. It wasn't planned and found ourselves here on our way back from Warwick purely by accident. It was only around 6.00pm and unsurprisingly very quiet, however by the time we left at around 7.45 pm it was completely full. That must tell you something as in my experience it's a very rare thing for a curry house to be full midweek. It is not a small restaurant either. Despite the popularity the service and food didn't suffer, all was very good and difficult to fault. The old school sheekh kebab was possibly the stand out dish for me. The wife loved her dupiaza, my naga was nice but a fraction bitter. The sides were OK, no complaints. The other reason for it being busy could possibly be the great value fixed price 'set' menu. This is a complete misnomer as it basically allows you to choose any starter, main and a side, although there will be a surcharge for king prawn and some of the specials. Finally ice cream or fried banana to finish, plus coffee if you still have room. Given its popularity I guess it doesn't need any more reviews, but credit where credit is due.

Genuine quality curries and exceptional nans - great service with a smile

This restaurant is still going strong and myself, friends and family continue coming back year after year. Very much your traditional setting. Staff attentive & food is lovely, they don't rush you out the door, they aren't interested in flipping tables - so a great place to go, where you can eat but enjoy a decent conversation with your dinner cohorts. It was busy when we arrived at 8 pm (but had booked a table) but it thinned out at 10:30 pm, ready for the after pub wave of diners.

Ordered a takeaway ordered 4 popadoms with my meal ended up with one smashed up one. My partner ordered a resmi kebab with sauce but got charged for curry for a sauce. Will not use them again terrible setvice

We live walking distance and thought we’d give them a second chance, but again my husband and I had different meals, both chicken based, and for the second time we have both got very upset stomachs. To make it worse it was my birthday! We will not be eating from there again.

Another amazing meal tonight, i ordered a chicken Sagwala which had a very good amount of chicken, and my partner had a Lamb Madras, again a tonne of meat! We have dined in numerous times, and ordered takeaway, and both are truly amazing. Food quality is second to none, customer service is always fantastic too. Would never go anywhere else.

Been here about 6 times in last 2 months and always found it good service and good food. Tonight was awful….waited 1.5hrs for a starter then a further 40 minutes for mains (over 2 hrs altogether for our mains.). It was just as slow to get our drinks and, worst of all, we got no apology or acknowledgement from staff. The unbelievable lack of an apology cheesed us all off. We are very local but won’t go there again because of the rudeness and lack of appreciation for repeat custom. Finally, to add to it all the food was definitely below par with two of us leaving a considerable amount. Really disappointed as we thought we’d found our ‘curry house’

This restaurant has to be the worst curry house iv been to to start with the poppadoms came with only one dip which was basically green yogurt no flavour then I had a starter which was pretty much microwaved and don't get me started on my chickhen tika massala it was more orange than an umpa-lumpa and tasted disgusting..my egg fried rice was bulked out with onions which basically was onion fried rice I might as well gone to aldi and got a microwave meal I recommend this restaurant to people who prefers to eat a chicken korma as that's pretty much how mild all the food is

Ordered Chicken Biryani rice, yogurt and vegetable curry for 8.95 GBP only. a lot of indian restaurant are quite expensive. service are fast for take-outs and its cozy inside to wait for you order. a must try for quick cravings.

Staff great but food needs more attention to detail. Raita salad poor. Hardly any cucumber or red onion. Some food tasteless, some very nice. Should focus on quality

It’s so good I have to keep coming back. Chicken tikka balti is my favourite. Great staff too. If your looking for a great curry in the Birmingham area this place is worth the visit.

This is a popular restaurant and the set menu is good value. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are obliging.

I hadn't been for quite a while as bland now they have gone totally the other way very hot even when a medium. Reminds me of the balti belt not much flavour but hot.

A regular curry choice because of good food/price/atmosphere. We were in a bit of a rush as a friend is a night manager at a Solihull hotel and was on duty later on. Too be fair after informing the manager we were served in a timely manner. We had four drinks, three curries, three poppadoms and sauce, rice and a nan bread and the bill was only £51, good value indeed. Service was excellent, most of the food was fine and tasty, the only fault was we found the lamb and the chicken to be a little tough in two of the curries, but still edible of course.

Food was ok if not a bit bland, too many onions in the Balti, no choice to add mushrooms if you order online

Went on Thurs early evening not that busy few tables taken. Staff lovely and welcoming. We had a chicken sagwalla and egg fried rice, a special house mixed balti and a chicken biriani. We don't know what the chef was doing as the sagwalla curry came in a balti bowl and the house special balti came on a plate, very disappointed in this experience and don't understand why the chef didn't get it right. Biriani was lovely tho. Might try again then might not

went here last night for my sisters birthday.,and quite frankly the worst curry i have ever had! the staff were hurrying us to choose our meals we said we weren,t ready yet after only being there 5mins! i had easy dish chicken balti madras and it was crap,meat was small and grisly the sauce too much ginger and onions frankly it was NOT a balti. i did,nt complain because i did,nt want to spoil my sisters night.nobody had a good meal .NEVER going again.

We have done over 40 curry houses in our club and this was the worst one, yet only one person in eight finished there curry ( and his regretted it then next day like the rest of us) never again. Bad food, beer smelt like egg and service very average. The only star ⭐️ they get is they got order rite but they all tasted the same 👎🏻

Didn't like it. Food was overpowered with too much cumin. Clean enough, but bloody rude staff. I'm white, my wife is brown. We get "looks" from all sides, but these took it up to a new level. Sometimes racism isn't spoken, it's just 'there', felt by those who experience it.

Excellent customer service. Food was delivered on time, and was exactly what we ordered. It arrived hot and well packaged. It was extremely tasty and flavorful. Just the right portion sizes. Would definitely order again.

Don't go here if you are in a rush... it took an hour before we had our starters, mains came soon after which was fine but again we had to wait for more drinks, desserts etc. Staff weren't rude but they weren't welcoming either they didn't smile once.

I had a delivery order through just eat. First it took an hour. Furthermore the order was a mix kebab starter meat curry, meat biriani, Nan. The starter was very small dry and tough and a little cold. The mains was very small pieces of meat and 70% onions and watery gravy. Biriani was a little burnt . Overall very bad experience of what real Indian food should be like. Maybe different in-house but delivery was absolutely bad and had to throw half eaten with Nan away. Will not order from them again

Looking for a replacements 'regular' as Darjeeling has closed.... excellent service and food and love the £15 meal deal... poppadom, with onion salad and minty sauce... starter.. main and side. I skipped the dessert but Mrs H had the fritter and enjoyed it. No complaints.

Food was a little greasy for my taste. Service was slow and the bill for what we had was confusing, meals we did not order and no drinks at all. When we paid the bill it was cheaper with the addition of drinks and I just got the feeling of being scammed on the bill. Clearly issues or a tax fiddle going on.

Foods usually really good from here, really disappointing to have it as a take away and have it cold and no flavour!

This place has had the reputation of being the best Curry house in Shirley for a good few years now and it's well deserved. The set menu is extremely reasonable, and the quality of the dishes is superb. Highly recommended.

I ordered a garlic naan but they gave me a peshwari naan which I didn’t like it.

Surprised with the good reviews when the food was poor. Plus they kep pushing starters then deserts on us ,we said no and they brought popodoms then charged extra. Any they would only take cash for the drinks (but card for food) ?? Sat down at 6.30 and food came at 8.30 !!!

Overall a good experience. Starters were ok, but not the best. £5:75 for a single lamb chop Is pretty poor. I questioned why “Lamb chops” (plural) means you only get one ???… they promptly served another one for each of us that had ordered them, Main course was good and service was ok. Will I go back ? Probably not, as there are much better restaurants close by.

I have been having takeaways from here for more than 12 months now and they are constantly great. I've got stuck on the lamb Naga chilli with extra green chillies. Nice staff

Tried for first time but wasn’t impressed. Chicken was tasteless and not nice, naan was cold and to be honest it arrived early and didn’t seem to be time enough for a quality meal. Don’t leave reviews normally but this is annoying.
