Absolutely love the curry from here and have one nearly every week. I am gutted to hear they are having to close because of the utility bill situation we are experiencing across the UK. 😟 sad times

Disgusting! Been a customer for years. Ordered takeaway, asked twice on the phone if the driver accepted a card machine as it stated on website. Tony has never accepted card over the phone as it costs the business. Old fashioned, but asked to clarify the website comment.He said yes. Driver turned up, no card machine. Inconvenience, I asked to pay over the phone. No. Ok, as you know me can I come in at my inconvenience ! & pay you tomorrow . No. Took the food back. Waste of food. Disgraceful. You do not deserve customers let alone loyal ones ! Hope you are happy with being proud of wasting food & disappointing a loyal customer. Utter disgrace & appalling way of conducting yourselves I will take my long loyal business elsewhere

Best walk in Indian restaurant locally excellent value for money, Friendly staff. Children friendly even though my 5 and 8 year old grandsons are naughty ("Los Diablos") but we go early on weekdays

Love eating here, the food is always very tasty.The service is always on point, always attentive but never overbearing. We have taken our 2 year old here, she loves it also. Always recomend.

Mar 2022. First visit to Darjeeling in 25 years. Used to be favourite restaurant until takeaway and delivery services were there obvious priority. This revisit was on a Wednesday evening and not busy, lacking any atmosphere. Normal Asian curry menu on offer. Chose set meal for 2 with 2 lagers. Food ok but not memorable. Service was good. Cost £45 - not best value for money in my experience.

We called here the other night as we was carrying out a job near by and at the end of our shift we got hungry as you do and the lads and I wanted a curry so we ended up trying this place and i must say it was a nice curry indeed.

First time in Darjeeling as working in the area had an takeaway excellent meal will try a fine in next time..

Decent food for the price and attentive service.

Very nice meal and good portion sizes. We especialy enjoyed the garlic naan bread which was delicious.

Fantastic atmosphere, staff and food

Being a Monday evening my two other favourite restaurants were closed...so a decision was made to go to The Darjeeling! Hadn't been there before and can say may not be in a hurry to go again! Food and service was on par with other places but not on my fav list...!

Been coming here for years. Food excellent. Sometimes feel a bit rushed but not a problem.

Lived by this restaurant for many years for unknown reason and visited for first time and pleased we went. Early evening for popadoms with pickles and yoghurt dip, chicken tikka and lamb tikka, chicken rezallea, chicken madras, naan and rice with a bottle of shiraz. Good service and excellent food so we will be back

Travelled up to Shirley from North Devon to visit family so naturally needed to try an Indian curry!!! Phone ordered my meal, chicken tikka balti with peshwari naan and onion bhaji, asked to collect at 8pm. When arrived at restaurant I was met by the very friendly staff and food was ready for me. Food was very nice, not greasy at all, with extra poppadoms and onion salad etc added for free. Thank you.

Brilliant - first time for me. My partner used to go years ago when living that side of Bham and it lived up to his memories of the restaura t. Food was excellent and very attentive staff. Well spaced. Look forward to our next visit👍

The Darj just never disappoints! Always amazing tasty curry. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy so dont expect to be blown away with the decor however you do find the best indian restaurant's often look this way! This place is about one thing... the food. I usually order the chicken or lamb Pathia and ive never tasted one this good, its outstanding. The naan breads great, especially the peshwari. Chicken tikka massala, Biriyani and Balti are all excellent. A proper curry!

For a Tuesday night it was busy no surprise there as the food is really good. I had Chicken Tikka Masala (without the lamb mince) very tasty. My son enjoyed the Chicken Partha again very tasty. Both were decent sized portions with plenty of Chicken. Definitely recommend this indian restaurant. The staff were friendly and were there as and when we needed them..Will definitely go back.

First visit back to Darjeeling since lockdown. It was as good as ever. Wonderful food with exceptional service.

Booked here last night for 6, then changed it to 8 the manager was than happy to do this for us at short notice. Never ever have a bad meal here and the staff are always happy and the service is top notch!!

Covid-19 precautions were not in evidence. Waiters had masks but worn below their chins, gloves were not worn. Waiters also made no attempt to distance from customers, standing very close to tables when taking orders. Guests were seated at adjacent tables, despite there being plenty of room in the restaurant. Chutney tray was moved directly from one table to another. On the plus side, they did record details of guests. Oh, and the food was pretty good!

So glad to have you back after being closed due to Covid19. Amazing,tasty, fresh food as always. Great service, all wearing gloves masks and social distancing. Asked about the children and gave lollies to take away. Thank you.

I have spent a week in isolation, the owner of this restaurant spat in my face tonight over a row about a parking space!!! Avoid this place

Regular customer, booked a table for my partners birthday for 10 plus people and they didn't have it ready or was even aware of the plans we'd made with them! Really lost confidence in the business.

Brilliant. I've only had a takeaway from here, but it was lovely, and not greasy like you find with lots of Indian takeaways. I ordered in the restaurant and sat and waited. It was clean, tidy and traditional looking. I'll definitely be eating in at some point.

All way my favourite place been going over 25 years even when I left Birmingham when visiting i always return.

Arrived and ordered food, my main meal wrong they said they would change it but I didnt want to eat when everyone else had finished. While finishing our dinner the staff were vacuuming around us.

On and off, I’ve been eating at the Darj’ for around thirty and it always goes a great job. Visited recently with family and we were well looked after, with great food and friendly service. The Shami kebab starters were superb and fantastic value. Well worth a try in our opinion.

I have been going here with my family for as long as I can remember! It is our favourite! Service is great and so is the food! The servers are so friendly and we have been going there so much that they know our orders off by heart now! The curries are just so tasty and you can’t get it better anywhere else! I usually have the chicken or lamb tikka masala which is so delicious! My mom usually has the garlic chilli chicken balti which is sensational! There is a great range to the menu and you can’t fault the quality of the food!

Lovely food....Restaurant is a tad dated...could do with some modernisation. Overall though a pleasant meal.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant. Food amazing. Staff amazing. Decor amazing. The food is always piping hot which it should be and delicious aswell. Enjoyed every meal we have ever had here.

I have been coming to this restaurant with my family and friends for nearly 30 years. Service is always excellent & food is high quality & reasonably priced. Staff are happy to recommend dishes or make changes to existing dishes to meet your needs. As this is a licensed restaurant the addition of drinks adds to the cost of the meal but usually a meal for 4 with popadoms, starter, main + sundries & coffee/ dessert comes to around £20 per head

Great curry as usual. Took a couple of picky kids who demolished the chicken tikka with no moaning.

This place has been here for years. You know why? - because it is excellent. Superb Indian food, nice quiet atmosphere, great presentation and faultless service. We have been several times over the last few months and it is consistently first rate. Much better than these trendy, modern Indian dining experiences that are popping up all over the place. This place is the one to beat in Shirley. Very good value indeed. You won't be disappointed.

Ok, so it's cheap and service is prompt, but the food is not good.Fish tikka was rank, with mouthfuls of bones, and the mains were poor imitations of what a good curry in Brum should be. Best thing about.the place was the hot towels and after 8 mints. Avoid.

Went for Christmas Dinner. My advise would be to stick to the Indian option. Cuppa soup as a starter and cold smash with dry turkey, no trimmings. All the party that had the Indian menu where happy with there's

Saturday night with family and food was excellent and service tip top even though restaurant was full. Repeat visit and a favorite with my family. All courses well prepared and presented and good flavours. Will look forward to another visit.

Eaten in a few times was nice food. But had a delivery chicken jalfrazi was very salty couldn't eat it. Tikka chicken in it. Looked like left overs.

Visited with family and had a very nice meal. But felt it wasn't as good as previous. Some of the dishes lacked a bit of flavour, Service was as always first class.

As some of your other reviewers have said, it is a rather tired restaurant in need of some refurbishment. They crammed twenty of us on two long tables, back to back, with the chairs very close together. The food itself was very good, everyone was satisfied with it and I suppose that was the main thing but the service was poor and amateurish - perhaps they are not used to serving largish parties. It would have been better if our food had been served in dishes as normal and not poured in a messy pile on our plates. We ordered two beers and were very surprised when the waiter asked for the money ! This applied to everyone, tabs not acceptable. The bill for our table was a handwritten scribble we had to sort out ourselves and they were reluctant to accept card payment for the meals. In summary, good standard of food but staff training very necessary including more modern methods of payment !

Excellent service lovely food warm welcome

I was at a trade exhibition in Coventry on Thursday and knowing what Birmingham traffic would be like,plus it was tea time I thought have a drive and look for a Indian restaurant in the Solihull,South Birmingham area and had a drive round the area and saw this restaurant in Shirley so decided to park the van and have my tea there.

We decided to try this restaurant because of it's close proximity to where we live and the easy free parking (in the public car park behind the restaurant). The food was reasonably priced and cooked to a good standard. There was a good choice of vegetarian dishes and desserts. The only criticism we had was that the décor was a bit tired and the place could do with sprucing up - it was reminiscent of eating out in the 1980's. On the whole we would certainly recommend the place.

From the moment we entered Darjeeling the service was great. A good traditional restaurant with an authentic feel. The staff were very good - attentive but not intrusive. The food was all fabulous from the poppdoms to the main. Highly recommended. Good value for money too. The constant flow of customers eating in and take aways going out suggest this is consistently a great place to eat.

Food was ok. Some of the staff were not that friendly. Was a very busy night and packed in like sardines.

Have previously only had takeaways from this place - so thought I would give it a go - there was a large family group of us - all the food was good - it was a Friday night - service was a little slow and we had to keep asking for drinks - primarily soft drinks and water which they kept ignoring to bring - the food was good and overall it was a good evening - I would recommend the place for a visit

Always decide this place with friends when we want a takeaway! Great size portions for value and always delicious. Good delivery time and order always correct. Lovely delivery driver. Definitely recommend!

Friendly traditional Indian, lovely food.

Had a meal on Easter Monday, Poor service from the onset, Had to ask for our starters after a 30+ wait...twice. Ordered two Biryani dishes for the main course, one with meat for me, one vegetarian for my partner, the vegetarian dish was the same as the meat dish minus any meat!...not the best although prices are reasonable.

The Darjeeling has been a family favourite for years. While the menu is better described as traditional rather than cutting edge, the food is consistently brilliant and the service always top notch. Never had a bad meal there.

We ate here on a busy Saturday night. Service was much improved from our last visit and the food was quite nice. The biggest plus point was the price. We both enjoyed the vegetarian Thali. At just £14 per head it consisted of Popadom, onion bhaji, 4 veggie curries, pilau rice, nan bread, kulfi and coffee!! Excellent value for money. We'll return.

Visited the Darjeeling Indian Restaurant on the Stratford Road in Shirley Solihull on Saturday Evening. The queue was out the door such a great place to eat , super food , great staff and pleasant bill.

Honestly such a fabulous time with friends and family this evening it's such a shame that the food and the service let this place down. It was all going so well until the main meals arrived and my mums was too hot for her liking and she likes hot curries so for her to complain and say it was to hot is bad. Also my sisters was the same. When this was bought to the managers attention his reply was well you should have told us earlier. But how can you inform someone if nobody has come to ask about your meal. Such a sad moment.

Superb restaurant for eating in or takeaway. I have the lamb madras every time and am never disappointed.

A long- established traditional Indian restaurant with good food and service.

WE hadn't visited for a while, but went for a midweek birthday treat. Always familiar faces both staff and customers.Service ,food and value is always excellent.The dishes never taste exactly the same which shows they are being prepared regularly not out of a packet or catering tin.It's a bit old fashioned looking but well worth the visit.

Have become a regular user of Darjeeling over the last six months having found the Shapla standards dropped drastically. Always top quality food and service, great value and never let down
