Great food, service now better, decor/facilities poor. Staff are excellent in the kitchen but unfortunately owner still seems reluctant to invest in bringing the business to what it should be. Toilet is not the best and don't think it is cleaned regularly. Still a diamond in the rough. The food is unquestionably tasty. Masala fish, mutton pepper fry and many more.

South Indian food, very generous portions, BYOB. Cash. Felt like I had as in India.

Went on the recommendation of a friend. Weak chutney (made with dessicated coconut instead of fresh coconut) and bland sambhar. Dosa was decent. Interiors were uninspiring and the hygeine levels weren't great. Service was poor. Thoroughly forgettable experience!

The food is very authentic. Dosa, sambar, vada is just like back home. Mysore masala dosa is my favourite. Dragon chicken is my favourite indo chinese fusion dish. Highly recommend it. Service is top notch and friendly. Only problem is that it is cash only. So be prepared.

Amazing South Indian food (Sambar Idli, Ghee dosa, Mutton Chukka). Loved the Indo-Chinese dishes (Devil Prawn).

The restaurant was filled with smoke and the strong smell of food, making it difficult to enjoy our meal. serving guy seemed disinterested and inattentive. Inadequate service. Only cash acceptable. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone

A good south asian restaurant with variety of South Indian cuisine

I recently dined at Dosa Village and was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes and the authenticity of the food. Every dish was bursting with flavor and tasted absolutely delicious. While the ambience was decent, I believe it could be slightly improved to create a more inviting atmosphere. This is not a criticism, but rather a suggestion that could help attract more customers and make the restaurant stand out even more. Overall, a great dining experience and I highly recommend it!

Greatest food really I can bet no one can give this kind of pure indian taste in food the masala dosa and the Chana puri paneer chilly and choly bhatury really great. We recently came to know about this place and we viat twice in week becoz of taste.

This is really awesome too best then chanai dosa I try there but no one can beat the taste of this dosa village , the guy is really nice nd the service is really too fast just in 7 mints the fiod on out table . Really really too good.

Great place to dine in for Kerala /Tamil food. Wide variety of dosas to choose from. We also tried few starters which also tasted very nice. Its not that expensive as compared to other Kerala restaurants in Birmingham. Recommended!

It has an authentic south Indian taste which is rare to get in Birmingham. Good prices and quality. What we would like to request the owner is if they can give more sambhar and chutney with the dish would be great. As what they provide right now is not sufficient. Otherwise it is a great place to have a south Indian taste.

Love this place. We come every few months with some Indian friends who know the place very well. We always have a great assortment of spicy treats and really good fun. It's an odd place. From the outside you might pass it by. Don't pass by. Pop in and look at the vast menu!

He has increased the prices again. He charges £6.25 for papdi chaat £2 for Tea which is not even made fresh. What a rip off.

So this is a tough one to review. The place is really disgusting and dirty!! I mean you can slide on the greasy floor, you can stick tissue to anything. The waiter is the most unprofessional you’ll ever meet. Yet, surprisingly the food tastes amazing! Honestly, if they gave this place a real good clean and got an extra waiter/waitress…they’d smash it!

Delicious food . i would recommend the mushroom and prawn manchurian and the medu vada a spicy donut . The food is a bit different to the usual Indian restaurant food . Very Tasty . Service is a bit slow otherwise excellent food.

Bad service. Yesterday we went there and some of our food left and we asked them to pack it. And they gave containers in our hands. You have to focus on your customer service. And even food wasn’t good. We will never go there. It’s like wasting our time and money.

The food in Shirley Dosa Village is too delicious and the awesome service by the staff is to be mentioned here. If anyone has not tried the Srilankan chicken curry and parotta combo you definitely should try that.. Thanks to Dosa village for serving a finger licking food

I will give this place zero if I had a choice .. my wife and my daughter went to this place in the afternoon . There were a couple of guys eating there already who were having fried rice. But the guy at the reception basically turned to us and told us that only dosas were available .. that isn’t the problem it’s the attitude of these guys who were chatting and joking amongst themselves in Tamil and singing songs irrespective of the slightest hint that a customer was there .. absolutely shocking and disgraceful experience .. when you are in the UK 🇬🇧 . On top of that they only take cash to escape VAT I suppose ..

As it was frequented by local Indians. I thought this would be a great place. Sadly disappointed. The place could not have been any more austere. This wouldn't have mattered if the food was anything special. It wasn't.

Very unprofessional behaviour today at lunch time. Based on the opening times available on the website, we had been at 12 noon and were told that they open at 1300 hours and to come back. When we went back at 1300 hours, we were told another 45 minutes and claimed they were delayed because of some party… though the restaurant was empty!!! If the restaurant is not open for lunch, that should have been told to us when we went in at 12 noon. Pathetic behaviour and clearly the chap at the front desk lacks both professionalism and insight.

Slow service provided when it not busy at all. Food was nice and filling. Could not pay by card.

Outstanding food and MOST importantly wonderful people. I ordered a masala dosa and a coke. I then saw a notice saying cash only so panicked and checked that I had only £5 with me and no debit card. I went up to the counter and asked for the coke can to be returned after which the bill was £5.50. Profusely apologised and said I was 50 p short. The gentleman was so nice it is unbelievable. He insisted I have the coke and not worry about the balance. Needless to say I did not but which restaurant would have such owners who believe in not great customer satisfaction but spoiling them. Hats off to them and am very touched by their generosity.

I’ve been here a few times most time ordering different thing i ordered chicken kottu and mutton kottu this time and they both were yellow indicating it didn’t have any spice and the mutton and chicken can’t even be seen with a nasa telescope and this was a pretty bad experience and unhygienic

Let’s start with a positive. The flavours of the food were delicious even though we asked for several items from the menu that weren’t available. For instance Dhal! What self respecting south Asian restaurant doesn’t have dhal. Overall the entire place from the toilets, restaurant area, doorway, connecting corridor is disgustingly dirty. We didn’t like touching the toilet doors they were so brown and sticky. The floor of the restaurant was covered with a generous sprinkling of food produced, so much so that it was obvious that floor hasn’t been swept for days. A positive was that our table wasn’t sticky…. Result! In any nook or cranny was crammed with food detritus, just disgusting. I wouldn’t go again and I wouldn’t recommend anyone to eat here. I shudder to think what the kitchen must be like. Ending on a positive note. They don’t have a licence to sell alcohol but they are happy for you to cross the main road, buy beer and drink it in the restaurant.

TERRIBLE! * Went for a family meal with the family - service was horrible and place is filthy. So much wrong with the place no idea how it’s still open! Food quality was so horrible ! Toilets do not flush and so disgusting. Asked for multiple things on the menu and they did not have in the end we ended up sharing 3 cans of sprite between 7 people! I feel so sick that places like this are open in the UK! They need a visit by a health and safety officer ASAP! After asking multiple times for basics the attitude changed as we did ask them to tell us before we placed our mains If there is certain things missing from the menu. We were rest assured everything is available then when we went to order we were told they didn’t have most of what we wanted! So frustrating and then the guy serving gave us attitude!! Find it strange how it’s cash only in this day and age! So we have to go get cash out and truthfully don’t rate anything thought out the evening. Overall do not visit the standard is very poor!!! Be warned!

Some of the best southern Indian food I’ve ever tasted. Visited 5 times ,floors were dirty ,gents toilets very poor . “When I looked at scores on the doors”and sawtattheyweregiven 0 out of 5 I could no longer go there, such a shame as the chef must have been amazing to make food that good .

First of all the food is amazing. Don’t be put off by the dated decor. You will be in for a treat of authentic South Indian cuisine. They only accept cash, which is inconvenient. I have nearly forgotten what cash is. Hopefully they would get a card machine soon. And also the ventilation could be improved. It was like a smoke house. Other than this, I think it’s the best Indian. And very reasonably priced too.

The Staff is rude, however busy they can be, need to learn to respond to the customers in a nicer way. On other note food is good, but takes ages. Don’t look at the kitchen, very un hygienic. Better avoid this place

The food here is really good. The dosa, prawn devil and egg fried rice - all really good faultless dishes. I've dropped 2 stars for the service. they are really slow to take orders. There isn't any wait staff around as everyone stays in the kitchen, they didn't really pay attention to, or answer any questions on dishes. It's shame as the dosa is the best in Birmingham, really hope they improve service. Update: service was better, so I've added a star!

Update: This used to be a family favourite, easily the best dosas on the Stratford Road. The food is great value for money and well made 5 stars for the food. However, on Friday or Saturday night, the service is overwhelmed with how busy it is. They need to hire a wait staff for busy periods and extra kitchen help!

Decent food. However, disappointed with the customer service. Very rude behaviour. They do not accept card payments and the ATMs nearby do not work. Had to roam around for 10mins to find one that worked. When we gave them a feedback about this, their response was that this is how we work, if you’re not ok, we can’t do anything. Highly disappointed and would’nt go back again.

Authentic South Indian food with great flavours

Great starters, good size portions. Reasonable price. Unfortunately the main course wasn't Great. Also the massala inside the Dosa could do with some mustard seeds and curry leaves. Place is a bit tired looking. Overall a good place, worth a try.

The staff have been very good. Ordered food just 2 days before the party. Ramesh came with the delivery on time and setup the dishes in order with patience. Guests were very happy with the food taste and quality. All the items were really good. Gutti vankaya, sambar, chapati, cut mirchi were wonderful. Happy to recommend to friends and family.

Whilst other reviews might rate this place well, we found the experience to be an overall disappointment. The food was ok however much is left to be desired in regards to customer service and general hygiene of the restaurant. We caught a glimpse of the kitchen when doors swung open and it looked as though the Food Standards Agency had never seen this place. It looked so messy and almost put us off our food. Half of our party dined in whilst the other half ordered takeaway. We had received our dine in order, ate it and even had time to pack leftovers - but our 2nd half of the party were still waiting for their food whilst being told several times, "just 5 mins, just 5 mins". Ultimately, they cancelled the order and left the restaurant in utmost disappointment. The tables were sticky. The floor was slippery with grime. I speak truthfully when I say I had to wipe my feet on the pavement outside when we'd left. Do not dine here folks unless its the last place on earth and you fancy a dosa as your last meal.

Our guests have absolutely enjoyed the tasty south Indian dishes catered by dosa village. The restaurant was able to happily accommodate our last minute additional requests for catering. Everyone liked the food. Also had a plain dosa in their restaurant once, which was nice, just like what we get in Chennai.

Dosa Village recently provided catering for a party at our home. We were really delighted with the food and the service. From set-up and arranging, to food (both quality and quantity), everything was brilliant. All our guests really loved the food, lots of compliments. And the thoughtful extras provided by Ramesh made it so easy and hassle-free for us to serve the food. Will definitely recommend and will be back again!

Wanted to come here for a dosa but was left bitterly disappointed Words cannot describe the disgust seen literally as soon as you walk through the sticky doors. You're then met with a floor so greasy you could have your own version of Disney on ice and the tables are equally as greasy but now with added bonus of being sticky too Needing to go to the toilet and you'll wish you hadn't, again the lack of cleanliness would make you add to the unsanitary surroundings with your own...contributions Finally, managing to get a glimpse of this 'amazing' dosa kitchen is the final straw. I don't want to call the police or food standards as the so called chefs were covered in God knows what Not sure why this place has good reviews maybe ignorance is bliss because if you could see where your food is being made you'd never want to dine here

Authentic South Indian/Sri Lanka food is at Dosa Village’s heart. The range of dishes is exciting, especially to people used to Birmingham’s mix of more Northern Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi dishes. The bread dishes are dramatic. I highly recommend a crispy dosa. Don’t forget to order a Paratha, I can only describe it as a pliable pancake. Beautiful. The Channa batura, another bread dish, is flaky and crispy. The interior is humble, a reflection of the owner’s personality. I had a long chat with him, a former chef, about food. His passion is reflected in the food.

A great little food joint with authentic south indian flavours. The sambhar and chutney was damn delicious. The dosa was fresh, crispy and humongous. We ordered sambhar vadai, sambhar idali, chilli grilled fish, srilankan mutton curry, uthappa and filter coffee. I was hooked with the srilankan mutton curry it was aromatic, fresh and mutton was tender and cooked to perfection. Do visit this little gem if you are in this area. The only downside they did not have the card payment facility, it was cash only.

The food was excellent - reminds me of home (Tamilnadu). However, the service is not up to the mark. But if you are after good food and don't mind a little inconvenience with respect to the service, this is a must visit place.

Visited this place various times. The place looks shabby. Service is not that great. However the food served here is perfect south Indian style and the taste is good. I would recommend this place for people whose priority is food and taste not the ambience. Many Indian restaurants around serve food which doesn't seem Indian for people from India but the food at this place feels and tastes exactly like Indian (More specific Tamil Nadu).
