Held our daughters 21st at the stunning Jenny Wren. Staff were friendly and professional, function room was perfect. Then hubby and myself stayed over, the room was perfect, peaceful and a great nights sleep. Woke early to have breakfast on the seating on the river bank. Beautiful views and stunning sunrise. Thankyou to all for making the party go to plan.

We visited The Jenny Wren at 2pm on a Friday afternoon. We decided to eat inside as it was too cold outside. Our dogs were welcome in the bar area which was comfortable. It lacked atmosphere as there was only us there and no music playing in the background. The young lady behind the bar was pleasant and helpful. The big WOW was the food! My husband had homemade steak and Stilton pie whilst I had fish and chips. The portions were big and the food amazing. You cannot go wrong eating here it just needed a bit more atmosphere.

We visited on Mother’s Day. At the time of booking it was asked if they could cater for vegans and was told yes, the chef will ring you to go through the menu. A few days before we were due to come no call had been made so we rang again to check, again assured yes and the chef would call. The evening before still no call so I rang to make sure. I spoke to a rather stressed chef who said the message had not been passed on. The call itself took 3 attempts because it kept cutting out. The chef sounded stressed and apologetic, my instinct was to cancel but she said she would make something and there would be options. I didn’t hold out much hope and arrived with low expectations. Unfortunately the experience fell below those. The vegan menu had egg and prawn mayonnaise without the mayo as a vegan option. It then took 3 attempts to make sure the remaining vegan items were actually vegan. I ordered the cottage pie and my daughter the roast vegetable dinner. The cottage pie was burnt and fairly tasteless and the roast veg dinner consisted of a roast potato, a scoop of mash and a Yorkshire pudding (my daughter is vegetarian not vegan) all smothered in lashings of gravy. MEAT gravy. My daughter had to ask twice if the gravy was meat. Eventually the chef sent a young waitress up to say she was sorry but she’d made a mistake. I shared the cottage pie with my daughter and we left as soon as we could. By this time the whole experience had been ruined for the entire party even though the omnivore food was good and they’d enjoyed it. So we all decided to leave, including those who were planning on opting for a pudding. This meant 2 people had not the 2 courses on the menu. This was not reflected in the billing. Neither was my daughters meal that was inedible. I did refuse to pay full price for her meal and this was respected however I was charged for a stater which did not sit with the reasoning of there was not an option for one course. I do appreciate that not everyone will cater for different diets. That is fine, simply saying I’m sorry we can’t on this occasion would have been much better than to have this experience which was awful for everyone - the young waiting staff included who were continually sent to front the issues out instead of the chef just popping up to answer a question. I would definitely not recommend if you have an allergy, intolerance or slightly out of the traditional diet.

Wouldn’t recommended unless you like wasting money on microwave meals. The starters which are overpriced are straight out the box. Refused to pay for the mushy batter they called fish and chips, (to which the chef didn’t see anything wrong with the undercooked cod) The American chicken burger is no more then a the Birdseye classic. And to top it off the wine glasses look like the been rinsed in week old bath water. While leaving the restaurant after an argument about paying for processed packet meals, we got confronted by the chef at the back door, giving us the worst dirty look upon exit. We then tried to speak to the chef about what could help them improve the food for future reference. at which point she had already ran in back in the kitchen to I can only assume would have been the bing of a microwave.

Christmas lunch for 4 at a cost of £55 pp. What can I say? Disgraceful!!Our table was booked for1pm, and it was 3.30pm before we left. Waiting times between courses was around 40 minutes, not enough staff? The starter was good despite having to ask for butter to eat the bread roll. Main courses had items missing, and had to ask. No gravy and again I had to ask. Child's portion of two small thin slices, obviously scrimping with portion sizes. Two sprouts in my opinion not fresh but frozen along with the roast potatoes. The dessert was ok but one arrived in a chipped bowl. Overall the worst Christmas lunch I'd ever eaten and I'm 65 years of age!! This meal shouted all for profit.

We had a meal with friends at the Jenny Wren, on Saturday evening. This is a beautifully maintained and pretty country pub, with a real fire for that warm feeling on a cold winter evening. We chose tiger prawns with sweet chili dip, deep fried Brie with cranberries, and prawn cocktail for starters. Main course were steak with all the trimmings, lasagna with garlic bread, burger with chips and salad, and best of all - sea bass with a creamy lemon sauce, served on a prawn and pea risotto - superb!!! Everyone enjoyed their meal, it was cooked and served perfectly, and accompanied by a nice glass or two of wine (or sparkling water for me because I was driving ). A few of us managed pudding - cheesecake, ice cream etc. And quite a lot of us managed after dinner liquors (did I mention that I was driving?!)A big thank you to Barry, Sheila, Luke and all your hard working staff - we had a lovely evening!!

The place is ok, but has an odd atmosphere, where you're not quite sure who's working and who's just lounging in their joggers and slippers. The bar is an odd set-up - one person takes the drinks order, another pulls the pint, another leaves it on the bar for 10 minutes and another then brings it to the table...Weird. The food was...ok (it seems that's the only word that I can use for this place) I ordered sweet chilli salmon and all I can say is that it was the most underwhelming meal I've ever eaten. I was literally bored whilst eating it. My friend had steak, asked for it medium, came out cremated, you get the idea. Just seems to be trying to be posh when it's very average pub grub.

Having booked a table two days before for Saturday 17th August it wasn't as if they wasn't expecting us. The table was booked for 7.45pm and the lady who showed us the table and took our order was miserable and could hardly be bothered to take our order, I'm assuming it was the landlady because the young lady's who came to our table were very attentive. The last time I came I ordered the same food," the sea bass" I got two last time but only got one this time . They had run out of the accompanying dish so I had to have chips. The restaurant didn't finish until 9pm so I can't understand how they could run out of things so early in the night. The food was ok but I didn't enjoy the evening at all, sorry ! I shall have to think twice about going again I'm afraid. I actually do love good food and go to lots of lovely restaurants so it's not as if this was a one off night out. Also being charged £3.20 for a non alcoholic drink was steep when establishments should be trying to encourage no drink driving.

On arrival my wife and I were seated and menus given and drinks ordered. We then asked the waitress if they had a specials board. One was produced albeit small. There were 5 or 6 dishes on there; what the waitress didn't realise was which were starters and which were mains. There was no prices on the specials board either; again annoying. Anyway, after some confusion, our order was taken; wood pigeon and garlic and white wine mushrooms. The waitress looked like 'a fish out of water' trying to do her job. Anyhow, the pigeon was beautiful. The wife enjoyed hers too. My hand pulled pint of ale became flat after one mouthful. The wife enjoyed her lasagne. I had the lamb shank. When it came out I noticed very little gravy on the plate, therefore I knew I would require some more. At no point did the waitress come back and ask if everything was okay; annoying to say the least. I had to go to the bar and ask for some gravy. A few minutes passed then it arrived in a gravy boat. I took one look at it and realised immediately that it was instant gravy granules and boiling water. Absolutely disgraceful! Even worse, the lamb shank cost me £15.95. There is no way I would have had it knowing it was that price. My pint cost £3.60. The wife's Moretti cost £4.90; that is an outrage! Before this pub reopened we visited it several times and it was very nice. It has gone down hill in my opinion. They are way off the pace charging those prices and dishing out gravy like I had. It is way too expensive. We shall not be returning.

However, if you go at the right time, you may be lucky enough to see the Aegir (tidal bore) come roaring up the Trent, which is just over the river bank outside the pub.

Food was first rate, service excellent and plenty of choice on the menu. Would recommend a drive around the East Ferry, Scotter area. Very pretty and on the banks of the Trent Would recommend.

My wife & I visited last weekend. Very warm & friendly welcome/staff made it a really nice evening. An excellent pianist playing easy listenning tunes was also enjoyable.Only disappointment was the food, which was average. It's a very old pub, nicely decorated, warm and welcoming. Worth giving it a try if you're in the area.

I have visited this pub a number of times in the past and really enjoyed it, but after my most recent visit I will not return. I booked for Christmas day. The food was very poor and when I complained to the waitress I did not get a satisfactory response. The vegataria dis was missing a pastry top and was mostly gravy. We were not offered drinks even though it was suposed to be table service. I was going to order wine but they missed out on a sale. I did not get the dessert I ordered and the waiterss tried to tell me I had ordered the wrong thing. All in all my family and I were very disappointing, the food was over priced and rubbish. The service was very poor and clearly the staff were not used to this kind of service. I had told my family how amazing this place would be for Christmas dinner and I was left feeling really embarrassing as my family did not enjoy their meals. I did later complain to the management but I did not get a response. Very disappointed.

After looking at reviews was looking forward to going to the Jenny wren. Made it a family affair and took 11 people. The service was good, beer choice average but the food sub standard. My wife's pie had been burnt on top then obviously some of the burnt pastry scraped off. The gravy with the pie was tasteless - probably a packet mix and my "Rib eye" steak was a grisselly price of rump. Saying that at least it was medium rare like I asked. Can say the Stilton sauce was very good. Unfortunately the sticky toffee pudding was hard in places as it had been over microwaved. Also just looked online and saw this pub was rated 0 for hygiene in September '16So all in all not a recommendation!

Booked our Christmas Meal at the Jenny Wren for this year. Were here a couple of years ago but this year they had set up a long table in the bar downstairs. Open fire, a lady playing the piano in the corner. Food was excellent and plenty. Coffee and mince pies afterwards. Would definitely recommend this place

Always loved it here but past few visits disappointing - but hadn't been for few months so decided to give it another try booked a table 3pm it was quiet we were only table in and a party upstairs as always manager very friendly we ordered drinks. We prompted waitress to sit at our table which was not that clean the bench had crumbs from a previous customer and even a party hat was squashed behind the cushion it was clear she was very un experienced in her role as did not know what drinks were available or what soup it was or that there had been a change from chicken to turkey on the menu but to be fair she was very polite and tried her best. We seemed to be waiting around to order and get our food. The Sunday dinners were average the roast potatoes were soggy far from roasted but my meat the beef was nice my partner had lamb it seemed burnt in places my sister had pork the scratching was soggy the sauces we requested like horse radish mint sauce etc came in huge pots with like half a teaspoon in not enough for one person let alone the table the desserts were ok but again a pot with cream not enough for even a spoonful let alone to spread on your dessert. The bill seemed very pricey for the what we had and our experience. It's ashame maybe one of those days but would not go back in a hurry.

We booked a Christmas meal for 33 of us and were given the function room for the afternoon. Despite the staff having a loud and chaotic family to cope with, they were friendly, calm and organised throughout. The food was beautiful and left us feeling stuffed! The staff were really helpful with any requests and made our Christmas meal a massive success. Can't thank them enough.

I phoned to book our Christmas Day Lunch back in September 2016 to ensure that we got booked in as we have been for the past two years for Christmas Day and my 83 year old mum really looks forward to the day and thoroughly enjoys her Christmas Day lunch out with the family. I was told at the time of the booking that we were booked in and given the time of our Lunch as 1.30 pm.I phoned 7th November 2016 to enquire when they would like the deposit as previous years we have paid a deposit and was told by the member of staff who answered the phone that they did not require a deposit. Whilst I was on the phone I asked her to check our booking as last year there was a slight error with the number of people we had booked. Ii was told that she could not see that we were booked in and that there was no record of our booking and they were now fully booked. Obviously I was very annoyed as I had purposely booked early to ensure my Mum was not disappointed but she stated that she would "get the manager to phone me the next day and see if he could fit us in". Three days later and I have still not received an apology or a phone call. Obviously with it getting closer to Christmas I have had problems trying to get booked in anywhere else as most places were fully booked. I have previously recommended the pub and food to friends and colleagues, but I will definitely not be recommending them again to anyone and will not be returning.

Visited here with 35 others as part of an organised trip to the area. We had the restaurant to ourselves, which was good. The food I had was lovely - the fish pie was tasty and very hot! Unfortunately others found the roast beef to be a little 'chewy'! The portions were a good size and mine was all well cooked and presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the evening was greatly enhanced by the beautiful piano playing of Camilla, which was an unexpected bonus.

Managed to get a table booked for the piano evening last night absolutely not disappointed. Atmosphere was perfect for a couples romantic meal. The pianist played beautifully.Food was spot on too. My wife said her steak was cooked to perfection and my lasagne was to die for.Finished off with a gorgeous slice of cheese cake and a floater coffee.Only thing that let's the jenny wren down is the run down toilets

Returned here to try it after a few years absence. First impressions as you walk in through the very worn back door is that the place is a little tired and could do with some redecorating. We had the baked Camembert and the Thai fish cakes as starters, but they were nothing special. My meat pie was very tasty, but my wife's scampi was tasteless and a big disappointment. If you want basic pub grub, then you will be ok, but if you are looking for something special, then this isn't the place. Will we return? I doubt it.

Came on Friday lunchtime to meet some business colleagues. The food was fantastic and the service great. Although I did feel for the lady working as she seemed to be on her own, this being said she never stopped. Constantly between the bar and taking food out. She came and asked if all was ok and offered us deserts which we declined because the portions are big and we were full up.
