Had a few drinks with friends in the beer garden on Bank Holiday Sunday before heading inside. At some point the cubicle in the gents toilets was damaged, and I pointed this out to the bar staff. Imagine how I felt when one of the bar staff came into the lounge and informed everyone that due to the fact that I had damaged the toilets, they were out of use. This was despite other customers advising the staff who had actually caused the damage. Over the course of the evening the same member of staff found it hilarious to tell every new customer that the male toilets were out of use and physically pointing me out as the reason why. I've never felt so humiliated. Completely ruined a good evening with friends. Great customer service......not!!!

A great stay. Lovely room and fantastic en suite bathroom. Spotless. Massive comfy bed. Every facility you could need. ( apart from maybe a fridge but that’s no biggie really). Lovely friendly staff at check in and the restaurant. Ate in the restaurant in the evening. Fabulous meal. Same again for breakfast. 10/10- would absolutely recommend.

Went to the white swan for lunch on a busy Sunday with family 4A & 2C. Was seen to straight away order taken. But when the food came out I got one serving spoon of very cheesy lasagna, some soggy old out of date salad which they then put some garlic bread on the top of salad, so most of that was soggy too and inedible. Complained to the manager and he said if I wasn’t happy I’d have to pay for another of the same @£15.50. What I should have done , was return it ,and ask to have it taken off the bill The other Adults shared the same dissatisfaction with their meals that they had numerous times before and said the quality was poor this time . So we didn’t order anymore drinks or dessert and left.

Visited with my Mum. She ordered a smaller portion of sausage, mash, veg, gravy. She commented to me that she has had this before and this time there was nowhere near as much gravy or as much veg. Previously she had been unable to eat all the veg. I would say that this is inconsistent then. The waitresses were very nice and pleasant. I wanted sea bass and asked, is it whole or two fillets. She stated that it comes in four pieces, so I assumed, wrongly this would be a decent sized portion. It came with new potatoes, tenderstem broccoli, one piece, savoy cabbage, a few strands and capers, more capers than cabbage and a thin spread of lemon butter sauce, that was tasty but sparse. The sea bass. Well I've eaten sea bass in many placed around Europe. A sea bass has two sides to it except in The White Swan at Scotter, where the chef has filleted the two sides, then cut each side into half, making four quarters. The chef then only served three of the quarters. Now this is just plain tight, and just wrong. Very odd. Clearly chef can then make two sea bass feed three people. As for the sea bass itself. Id say it was frozen and overcooked. The edges were dry. Now I could have complained and it wouldn't have bothered me to do so. But I think it's far more effective to give an honest review and let people read about the sea bass themselves. I live in a different area of the country. It's about 34 years since I've been in this restaurant. I won't come again.

WOW! This visit goes out to Julia & The Scotch Egg The White Swan was a spontaneous visit visiting friends. As we entered the White Swan we were greeted by a wonderful human being called Julia (hope i haven't hot the name wrong - lady with the glasses). Julia greeted us with great enthusiasm and positivity, showing great professionalism. What followed while ordering food was the best breakdown of laughter I've had in many many years, myself and Julia in particular were in tears over myself ordering the scotch egg. We ordered our food from the menu which was exemplary, an aesthetically pleasing menu with amazing variety and exciting dishes to choose from. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! We had the Cheeseboard, Lasagne, Pie and Pork Belly (which I had) and yes I did order the Scotch Egg in the end 😄 WOW! Our table absolutely loved the food, very well presented and great portion sizes to make you feel cozy on a full stomach in the setting of the White Swan Pub (next to the restaurant - all in one). We had other waitresses who were exemplary too, who helped bring the food to the table. Helping with add-ons (like drinks), they showed a positive and professional service while we were eating checking up to see if we were okay. But for the group and particularly myself, Julia was the standout performer and the food was out of this world! Julia came across as the type of person we would have at our table as a great friend sharing amazing laughter together. Julia if you ever wanted to connect with myself and/or the group of ladies for an outing sometime, please get in touch vía my public Instagram @Captain.Buddleja - That was one of the best moments of laughter I have had in many many years! Huge friendship material. A huge thank you to The White Swan for a very memorable experience and incredible meal out. We will now look to make this a favourite destination for our friends and family to enjoy a meal out in the near future.

We stayed in the executive suite for a night after visiting nearby Hemswell antique centre for the day. Lovely room, all the facilities you could need, huge comfy bed, tea/coffee making, bath and separate shower, plenty of hot water, huge tv with decent channels! Extra pillows and a fan supplied without having to ask. We had our evening meal at the pub itself as well as a couple of drinks beforehand, cannot fault the service, the staff were all polite and attentive- especially difficult as they were very busy (Saturday night) the meal itself although it took a little while to arrive (again being busy) was delicious and delivered with an apology for the wait. We would definitely stay here again, very friendly, easy parking, safe, quiet, comfy.

Booked to come for partners 30th, yet had the booking cancelled with no follow up communication as to why. I call to discuss this and was greeted with a rude female colleague who said yes I cancelled it I physically can’t fit you in. I appreciate you may be busy however no follow up communication just receiving an email saying your booking is cancelled is not the most polite, and also taking time to respond to bookings and offer possible alternates and seeming mildly apologetic isn’t hard. Considering the prices of dishes at the restaurant I would expect to receive a higher level of service. Unfortunately thought after having a lovely New Year’s Eve meal with yourselves I would re book but now I won’t be returning.

After always loving this venue and the food unfortunately on my last visit on Saturday this sadly fell short of my expectations. We attended as a large group who pre-ordered their food and was asked to attend for 7pm and were seated at 7.15pm. Our food did not arrive until 8.40pm and was over priced and not very nice. My pie was burnt dry and the steak had no taste to it The vegetables were bland and the tiny amount of mash potato was probably the nicest bit with the gravy. The saving grace for the night was the lovely bartender who served our drinks. Although the manager came and apologised it did take a long time for him to come and speak to us. It was a busy evening and Saturday night but this should have been catered for.

Dined here on Friday 8th March for an early Mother’s Day present for my mum and my partners mum. Service was very slow and not great, I had the chicken and bacon salad and the chicken was chewy and watery and just not great. My partners meal was also not great. The other two meals were fine. However a couple hours later we all felt very ill and sick. All 4 people do not live in the same household so not a bug or anything. White swan was the only place we had all been and put it down to this. My mum and my partner were very sick and me snd the other guest felt very sick and poorly tummy. Spent a lot of money here and it was very disappointing. The restaurant was pretty empty yet they sat us right next to another group which was a big group. They were very loud which I know you can expect when you go out but when the restaurant was pretty much empty you would think they would spread you out. I have visited many times before and it’s been fab and never had an issue but haven’t been for a few months and this is the experience we had. Feeling very poorly and put off going again

2 Brie, 1 mushroom fricasee, 1 potted pork for starters - all delicious. 2 steaks well cooked, chips good but way over the top portion size with onion rings, brioche and butter on the side. King prawn linguine was tasty but with too much sauce made it too rich. Please please please can you get the bar to serve a decent vodka tonic in a decent glass with ice and lemon or lime . Not acceptable to serve it in a boring small straight glass with no ice or lemon - not the first time this has happened during current restrictions so don't want to get up and get this corrected. Treat it like trendy gin!!!Staff need to make sure masks are over their noses.

Day out for the second jab, in the nearby town of Scunthorpe. We normally drive a while to find somewhere unexpected for lunch on such occasions- in this case the White Swan. It was quite busy but the staff were attentive and we didn't wait long for someone to take drinks. Good choices here for lager and soft drinks. A good selection of meal options too. We ordered club sandwich, three little pigs and prawn linguine which were fantastic. I was able to swap my order about with no problem. Ordered onion rings extra, which I must say bordered on perfect (a bold statement, I know but true). If I'm being very picky, condiments came in sachets and Pepsi was Pepsi max but this would not be enough to mark such a nice place down! Although not related to the pub, there is a stream nearby with ducks, which our kids loved. All very nice. It is a yes from us and we shall be going again.

Me and my other half had a date night which was a long time coming so was looking forward to a good meal and a lovely night out. All seemed ok when we were greeted and shown to our table - distanced apart and all staff wearing visors. The server was very helpful with me being gluten intolerant and got me a menu and told me what I could have. We ordered drinks when we came in. Which were forgotten about so went without a drink for about 20minutes ( the place wasn't particularly busy ) the man who helped me with my menu chased up the drinks that the girl forgot to bring us.. Food came. All looked lovely. Was very nice and enjoyable. But we then sat there for over half an hour. Nobody came and asked us if we wanted pudding..or anything. So we decided to go. Not sure if we were allowed to get up to pay the bill but we did anyway because nobody came to us. We just got left to it. So we paid the bill and went to the mucky duck bar. Bit disappointed really. The service again was slow and people were trying to get attention to get served. £2.40 for half a pint of cider too.. quite expensive all in all for a mediocre meal and drink. Wouldn't go again I don't think..

We had a lovely meal just a couple of issues we would like to point out:1) we were shown to our table nearest to the front entrance and must point out it needs a perspex divide as there's definitely not one meters difference between my back and the person coming through the door and one lady wasn't wearing a mask as she wasn't sure whether she was supposed to!!!! Please!!!! We all know by now. 2) My husband and I shared whitebait and my husband asked if we could have some bread with ours. We also ordered Three Little Pigs and Gammon and Pineapple as our main courses and then had Creme Brulee and cheese plate for dessert. Ok, the weirdest thing was the bread. Only ever had bread brought to the table with butter already spread on it in a fish and chip shop or the local bus station caf! Never had it like this in a pub restaurant. It's a definite no no!!! Also, bread roll is more in keeping wouldn't you say? The Three Little Pigs was a beautiful meal however the crackling nearly put me in an emergency dental surgery. Needn't have been quite so hard because that was my third pig and I couldn't eat it. The Creme Brulee was the best we have ever tasted. Scrummy! So all in all it deserved four stars. Please please urgently do something about the screen behind the table near the door. It's not Covid friendly or safe.

Came here for a meal with family and have to say it was terrible. First of all the service was awful! Having worked in hospitality for many years I do have experience, the waitress took our orders, and never came back. I had to go and find where out drinks were?? The appetizers came 25 mins after we ordered. The whitebait was cold, the prawn cocktail was NOT posh as stated, and the waitress never came to check if everything was ok? Bad start! The main course took another 25 mins to come. We ordered 2 rare and 2 medium steaks. The crispy onions on top were stale, the steaks were cold and not rare! So unfortunately they had to be sent back. We had also ordered 2 peppercorn sauce and 2 diane sauces. The diane sauce was basically peppercorn sauce with a couple of mushrooms thrown in - NOT diane! The most frustrating thing was the lack of service, not checking on customers to see if they are happy is a BIG no no! I'm afraid the whole experience was not a good one - the place was not even busy! We wont be returning!

Wish I hadn't bothered.... the main courses were terrible, my mother-in-laws was inedible the chicken was so tough and my vegetarian dish was also poor, potato rosti soggy (with oil) in the middle and burnt to a crisp on the edge I couldn't cut it. We took advantage of the eat out offer today and the whole meal was beautiful. We often go to the White Swan but with lockdown havnt been for a while. They had a fantastic choice on the menu, so decided to go for choices we wouldn't normally go for. I had the Denver steak and peppercorn sauce, it was fantastic, my husband had the chicken stack in tarragon sauce. We both had a dessert, which were equally well presented and tasty. We both agreed it was one of the nicest meals we have had in a long time and we eat out a lot! The service and atmosphere was great and we felt well looked after with all the covid preparations they had put in place. We will definitely be back soon and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

This was the first time during this worrying time that we have ventured out like this and we both felt very comfortable, safe and well looked after. While on a short break in the area, we booked same day by phone. Covid measures in place but no masked staff as end of table clear for staff to provide table service at a distance. Unobtrusive glass screens used to create separate booths for diners. Spoilt for choice on menu, whether looking for one course or three. Prices starting from around £10 for mains. We treated to ourselves to rib-eye and ribs and weren't disappointed, especially with unusual accompaniments of mini loaf and dry onions, and the triple cooked chips of course! Just steak may be a little on small side for 8oz and would add a sauce next time if only to dip mini loaf. Still squeezed in lemon and raspberry sponge for lovely finish. Drinks not overly expensive.Thank you to the friendly staff for a relaxing evening out in these challenging times.

We visited the White Swan's restaurant for lunch on the 2nd January. There were 5 of us for a pre-booked family meal. On arrival we were greeted by a very well presented young lady who seated us immediately. She was very polite and after presenting us with our menus took our drinks order. They arrived quickly. After we ordered our main courses they too arrived quickly and to say the portions were generous is an understatement. I had the beef, mushroom and ale pie with mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables. The pie was lovely, substantial and the course as a whole was filling. All our meals were very well presented and everyone commented on how good they were and great value for money. We all had desserts and the two course meal-deal was priced perfectly. The service was exceptional as well and we will be visiting the White Swan restaurant again in the near future. All in all I would thoroughly recommend a visit if in the area.

Boxing day visit. Understandably busy. The food was really nice. The annoyance was that were more than enough staff (seemed to be periods where several were waiting for something to do), and yet we were ignored on entry, had to wait for a table that was actually ready because they didn't communicate with us. Massive wait for the pre ordered food and no one acknowledged us at all when we left. Just pick up the service a little, otherwise a lovely place.

My Wife and I stayed at the White Swan on our first night in the UK after travelling from Australia. As it was a Sunday night we had a choice of the Christmas 2 course special.

We arrived early on a Saturday evening with no booking. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff. We both enjoyed the lovely food, one beef pie with chips and one chicken with blue sauce. Sweets were chocolate brownie and a sticky toffee pudding. Well done to the chef and the lovely staff. Two courses for £15 . Great value.

Large potions came out nice and hot. We was a large party already booked in, we had a wait for last 2 meals to come out which wasn’t suitable meals were getting cold. Puddings no way did it state on the menu that the crumble had cinnamon in it a place like this should have that stated on the menu it’s a extra it was a let down sent it back.

I have been a patron of The White Swan for many years as my business premises are close by. I have never had cause to complain about the food . So when I went in to book two tables of 9 people for 7th December I was told it would be a Christmas Party night but no entertainment?

Went for late tea with my wife saturday night bar staff are lovely the guy behind the bar and the 2 dark hair girls very good very polite and good at what they do .well done. as for the food very average standards have dropped. Pate was bland the chutney the balance of ingredients was all wrong it was like lets put some of this in some of that in the pot and that will do lets cook it. Fish main ok need to clean the oil tho in the fryer, the batter tasted of over used oil and it was soft in places not crisp. Banna split for pudd just not good bitter caramel ,soggy popcorn, very poor attempt. The standards have dropped wich is a shame chefs need to take more pride in the work they do even tho its a bar meal they have to show attention to detail.

We stayed for one night in August and it was busy as there was a wedding in the restaurant. We ate in the bar however which was fine - service was good and one mistake on the bill where they charged us for a bottle of wine rather than a glass was quickly rectified. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable (very soft bed) with one room having a bath and shower and the other just a shower. Breakfast on the Sunday morning however was a little disappointing. My daughter is vegan and I told the hotel this on booking 7 days previously. Despite this, they were unable to provide dairy free milk or spread and had little choice for the cooked breakfast other than vegetables and toast. It always amazes me how difficult it seems to be to provide simple items which make such a difference. There is a supermarket in the village for goodness sake which sells dairy free milk and spread - I actually went and bought some for my daughter to use as the hotel could not!

Clearly a lot of money has been spent to upgrade all the public areas, and investment in new and refurbished bedrooms. The overall effect is very pleasing, and together with good service in the bar for dinner, we felt we had made a good choice for an overnight stay when visiting the area.

Modern restaurant attached to old pub. Limited menu so If we went more often I would want some specials for variety. Starters - cauliflower 3 ways was tasty but tiny, standard whitebait. Duck main was delicious but 2 duck legs was way too much. Took 1 piece home for sandwiches! Burger ok.

This is the second time I have eaten here having stayed in the area on business. The dining area is modern and attractively set out and the service, both times was faultless, friendly and efficient. Food portions were large and the prices very reasonable but the finished product was a disappointment. First meal I had was the confit of duck which should have been crisp but had the finish of a prefrozen dish. The more recent visit was the Steak pie and the pastry was really heavy and the meat was tough. Perhaps I was unfortunate but I think two tries is enough

Me and my husband were back home during easter so i decided to book a table here as it was ages since we had been...plus recent reviews all seemed positive. 8 of us went and we were all really impressed with the service and the food. The restaurant wasnt that busy which may of helped..it was midweek but the courses came out out quickly and no ones glass was left empty. Most of us opted for the shin beef as our main which i was told was just melt in the mouth and fell off the bone. My husband went for the confit duck and whilst he said was great...he got two duck legs!! He couldnt manage both but it cannot be said you dont get your monies worth. We had a mixture of puddings and coffees...i have to say i highly recommend the sticky ginger sponge...my mother has this but i couldnt resist a try..it was so light a good choice if you want a sweet but nothing too heavy. We would definitely have a return trip..thanks for lovely evening. Oh added some pics of the food to help! X

Visited about a month ago with family. The restaurant was very quiet and the atmosphere was very flat. The food itself was nice but it was slow to come out and special requirements for dietary reasons were ignored twice which was disappointing. Drinks order was also delivered incorrectly and we had to chase to get it rectified. As there were only three tables in the restaurant, we expected better service. We have been before and not experienced these problems but won't be hurrying back based on our last visit.

My father and I visited for Sunday lunch. The two course menu is good value. We had to wait well over half an hour for our main courses which was not too bad and the roast beef and steak pie were very good. However we sat for ages waiting for our plates to be cleared. Eventually our plates were cleared and dessert was ordered. However this took so long to arrive that my father got up to see what had happened. Dessert was served over 1.5 hours after we arrived at the restaurant and we were offered a drink or coffee as compensation for the delays. We declined as didn’t want to wait any longer. The manager discounted the bill as a goodwill gesture. The good food is spoilt by poor slow service. The place seems totally disorganised. There were plenty of waitresses for the number of tables but there seemed to be no system in place. They’d disappear for ages, sometimes pouring drinks at the bar. Surely there should be a bar tender to do this? Perhaps they’d benefit from using tablets instead of handwriting orders down? Not sure I’d go back

Came for my girlfriends birthday and had the ham hock starter which was presented well and tasted fantastic. Had the three little piggys for main and again presented fantastically well and tasted stunning. Only downsides to meal was my girlfriend asked for no tarragon in her mash and came with it still and as it was a quiet night in restaurant the two waitresses were messing around giggling and you had to get there attention when you saw them otherwise would of been a 5 star.

We went to the Michael Bublè tribute act with for our staff party, it was amazing! We were seated quickly, service on food was excellent and all the staff worked so hard rushing around getting the food out, though i did have to ask where my parfait was as people were finishing their starters before i got mine, i wasn't too bothered but the parfait was a bit of a let down, not much taste and lack of seasoning and not enough cracker to spread it on. I tried my husbands tomato soup and it was soooo good! The main meals of beef and turkey were absolutely beautiful, lots of lovely meat and the vegetables so soft and buttery, we all really loved it. The puddings were lovely, i had the cheesecake which was fab but i couldn't finish it i was so full.

As it was boxing day and we hadn't booked we were told it was a limited menu ,no drama it was only a flying visit before panto ,we both opted for prawn cocktail which was poor ,in fact the best thing about it was the bread and that came without butter ,dip it in the sauce you may say i would of but it came with very little so the bread was dry, sauce was bland salad consisted of a few green leaves no toms or cucumber or even lettuce ,main course her indoors had chicken which was nice and tasty and i had the belly pork which was also nice and tasty but what chef would send it out the kitchen with half an inch of inedible rubbery fat sat on top of the pork ,what a let down crisp it up and it would of been smashing ,we did tell the young waitress what we thought but as it was a quick bite to eat before a night out we didnt stress ,£46.00 with a pint and wine .

Two of us ordered steaks. Sirloin wasn't available so we settled for rump. Admittedly we asked for it well done, however I have never had meat as tough. It was so tough we could barely cut it let alone chew it and we left it. Absolutely dreadful! Informed a staff member who said she'd pass it on. So won't be returning

The old faithful Costa. It is the universal meeting spot for anyone coming from outside of Gainsborough! Cheap parking, lovely outside seating area and good reliable drinks. The upstairs is particularly beautiful with its full length glass walls with a view over the fountains and the old marshalls yard buildings. Top tip.... if you're looking for a good spot to watch the reindeer being turned on at Xmas time, get upstairs early as you get a perfect cosy spot to watch the festivities
