2 Brie, 1 mushroom fricasee, 1 potted pork for starters - all delicious. 2 steaks well cooked, chips good but way over the top portion size with onion rings, brioche and butter on the side. King prawn linguine was tasty but with too much sauce made it too rich. Please please please can you get the bar to serve a decent vodka tonic in a decent glass with ice and lemon or lime . Not acceptable to serve it in a boring small straight glass with no ice or lemon - not the first time this has happened during current restrictions so don't want to get up and get this corrected. Treat it like trendy gin!!!Staff need to make sure masks are over their noses.

Day out for the second jab, in the nearby town of Scunthorpe. We normally drive a while to find somewhere unexpected for lunch on such occasions- in this case the White Swan. It was quite busy but the staff were attentive and we didn't wait long for someone to take drinks. Good choices here for lager and soft drinks. A good selection of meal options too. We ordered club sandwich, three little pigs and prawn linguine which were fantastic. I was able to swap my order about with no problem. Ordered onion rings extra, which I must say bordered on perfect (a bold statement, I know but true). If I'm being very picky, condiments came in sachets and Pepsi was Pepsi max but this would not be enough to mark such a nice place down! Although not related to the pub, there is a stream nearby with ducks, which our kids loved. All very nice. It is a yes from us and we shall be going again.

Me and my other half had a date night which was a long time coming so was looking forward to a good meal and a lovely night out. All seemed ok when we were greeted and shown to our table - distanced apart and all staff wearing visors. The server was very helpful with me being gluten intolerant and got me a menu and told me what I could have. We ordered drinks when we came in. Which were forgotten about so went without a drink for about 20minutes ( the place wasn't particularly busy ) the man who helped me with my menu chased up the drinks that the girl forgot to bring us.. Food came. All looked lovely. Was very nice and enjoyable. But we then sat there for over half an hour. Nobody came and asked us if we wanted pudding..or anything. So we decided to go. Not sure if we were allowed to get up to pay the bill but we did anyway because nobody came to us. We just got left to it. So we paid the bill and went to the mucky duck bar. Bit disappointed really. The service again was slow and people were trying to get attention to get served. £2.40 for half a pint of cider too.. quite expensive all in all for a mediocre meal and drink. Wouldn't go again I don't think..

We had a lovely meal just a couple of issues we would like to point out:1) we were shown to our table nearest to the front entrance and must point out it needs a perspex divide as there's definitely not one meters difference between my back and the person coming through the door and one lady wasn't wearing a mask as she wasn't sure whether she was supposed to!!!! Please!!!! We all know by now. 2) My husband and I shared whitebait and my husband asked if we could have some bread with ours. We also ordered Three Little Pigs and Gammon and Pineapple as our main courses and then had Creme Brulee and cheese plate for dessert. Ok, the weirdest thing was the bread. Only ever had bread brought to the table with butter already spread on it in a fish and chip shop or the local bus station caf! Never had it like this in a pub restaurant. It's a definite no no!!! Also, bread roll is more in keeping wouldn't you say? The Three Little Pigs was a beautiful meal however the crackling nearly put me in an emergency dental surgery. Needn't have been quite so hard because that was my third pig and I couldn't eat it. The Creme Brulee was the best we have ever tasted. Scrummy! So all in all it deserved four stars. Please please urgently do something about the screen behind the table near the door. It's not Covid friendly or safe.

Came here for a meal with family and have to say it was terrible. First of all the service was awful! Having worked in hospitality for many years I do have experience, the waitress took our orders, and never came back. I had to go and find where out drinks were?? The appetizers came 25 mins after we ordered. The whitebait was cold, the prawn cocktail was NOT posh as stated, and the waitress never came to check if everything was ok? Bad start! The main course took another 25 mins to come. We ordered 2 rare and 2 medium steaks. The crispy onions on top were stale, the steaks were cold and not rare! So unfortunately they had to be sent back. We had also ordered 2 peppercorn sauce and 2 diane sauces. The diane sauce was basically peppercorn sauce with a couple of mushrooms thrown in - NOT diane! The most frustrating thing was the lack of service, not checking on customers to see if they are happy is a BIG no no! I'm afraid the whole experience was not a good one - the place was not even busy! We wont be returning!

Visited recently to take advantage of the Government offer. The place was full inside and out (as full as you can be with social distancing). All appropriate measures in place and felt very safe. The food was gorgeous and service great. We had to wait quite a while on our main course but when you look around at how busy it is and how the staff never stop you can be a little more understanding. We would come here a couple of times a year for a treat meal before the pandemic and will continue to do so.Well done to all the staff for their efforts.

Haven't been for a long time as I've always found the food poor here, but went on a recommendation from a friend as there was a new chef. Wish I hadn't bothered.... the main courses were terrible, my mother-in-laws was inedible the chicken was so tough and my vegetarian dish was also poor, potato rosti soggy (with oil) in the middle and burnt to a crisp on the edge I couldn't cut it. The service wasn't good either extremely slow. We did complain and we did get some money off, but it was a shame we had to complain really...

We took advantage of the eat out offer today and the whole meal was beautiful. We often go to the White Swan but with lockdown havnt been for a while. They had a fantastic choice on the menu, so decided to go for choices we wouldn't normally go for. I had the Denver steak and peppercorn sauce, it was fantastic, my husband had the chicken stack in tarragon sauce. We both had a dessert, which were equally well presented and tasty. We both agreed it was one of the nicest meals we have had in a long time and we eat out a lot! The service and atmosphere was great and we felt well looked after with all the covid preparations they had put in place. We will definitely be back soon and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

My daughter and I took advantage today of the new scheme and we had the most delightful meal at such a fantastic price. The choice on the menu was exellent and I opted for a Mushroom Stack which has to be the best thing I've eaten since lockdown began (and the Creme Brulee - gorgeous!) This was the first time during this worrying time that we have ventured out like this and we both felt very comfortable, safe and well looked after. If you want to try their extensive menu and beautifully pepared food take advantage of this scheme through August and I guarantee you will definitely add The White Swan to your "go to" list.

While on a short break in the area, we booked same day by phone. Covid measures in place but no masked staff as end of table clear for staff to provide table service at a distance. Unobtrusive glass screens used to create separate booths for diners. Spoilt for choice on menu, whether looking for one course or three. Prices starting from around £10 for mains. We treated to ourselves to rib-eye and ribs and weren't disappointed, especially with unusual accompaniments of mini loaf and dry onions, and the triple cooked chips of course! Just steak may be a little on small side for 8oz and would add a sauce next time if only to dip mini loaf. Still squeezed in lemon and raspberry sponge for lovely finish. Drinks not overly expensive.Thank you to the friendly staff for a relaxing evening out in these challenging times.

We visited the White Swan's restaurant for lunch on the 2nd January. There were 5 of us for a pre-booked family meal. On arrival we were greeted by a very well presented young lady who seated us immediately. She was very polite and after presenting us with our menus took our drinks order. They arrived quickly. After we ordered our main courses they too arrived quickly and to say the portions were generous is an understatement. I had the beef, mushroom and ale pie with mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables. The pie was lovely, substantial and the course as a whole was filling. All our meals were very well presented and everyone commented on how good they were and great value for money. We all had desserts and the two course meal-deal was priced perfectly. The service was exceptional as well and we will be visiting the White Swan restaurant again in the near future. All in all I would thoroughly recommend a visit if in the area.

Boxing day visit. Understandably busy. The food was really nice. The annoyance was that were more than enough staff (seemed to be periods where several were waiting for something to do), and yet we were ignored on entry, had to wait for a table that was actually ready because they didn't communicate with us. Massive wait for the pre ordered food and no one acknowledged us at all when we left. Just pick up the service a little, otherwise a lovely place.

Pate was bland the chutney the balance of ingredients was all wrong it was like lets put some of this in some of that in the pot and that will do lets cook it. Fish main ok need to clean the oil tho in the fryer, the batter tasted of over used oil and it was soft in places not crisp. Banna split for pudd just not good bitter caramel ,soggy popcorn, very poor attempt. The standards have dropped wich is a shame chefs need to take more pride in the work they do even tho its a bar meal they have to show attention to detail.

We stayed for one night in August and it was busy as there was a wedding in the restaurant. We ate in the bar however which was fine - service was good and one mistake on the bill where they charged us for a bottle of wine rather than a glass was quickly rectified. Bedrooms were clean and comfortable (very soft bed) with one room having a bath and shower and the other just a shower. Breakfast on the Sunday morning however was a little disappointing. My daughter is vegan and I told the hotel this on booking 7 days previously. Despite this, they were unable to provide dairy free milk or spread and had little choice for the cooked breakfast other than vegetables and toast. It always amazes me how difficult it seems to be to provide simple items which make such a difference. There is a supermarket in the village for goodness sake which sells dairy free milk and spread - I actually went and bought some for my daughter to use as the hotel could not!

Food portions were large and the prices very reasonable but the finished product was a disappointment. First meal I had was the confit of duck which should have been crisp but had the finish of a prefrozen dish. The more recent visit was the Steak pie and the pastry was really heavy and the meat was tough. Perhaps I was unfortunate but I think two tries is enough

The restaurant wasnt that busy which may of helped..it was midweek but the courses came out out quickly and no ones glass was left empty. Most of us opted for the shin beef as our main which i was told was just melt in the mouth and fell off the bone. My husband went for the confit duck and whilst he said was great...he got two duck legs!! He couldnt manage both but it cannot be said you dont get your monies worth. We had a mixture of puddings and coffees...i have to say i highly recommend the sticky ginger sponge...my mother has this but i couldnt resist a try..it was so light a good choice if you want a sweet but nothing too heavy. The food itself was nice but it was slow to come out and special requirements for dietary reasons were ignored twice which was disappointing. My father and I visited for Sunday lunch. The two course menu is good value. We had to wait well over half an hour for our main courses which was not too bad and the roast beef and steak pie were very good. However we sat for ages waiting for our plates to be cleared. Eventually our plates were cleared and dessert was ordered. However this took so long to arrive that my father got up to see what had happened. Dessert was served over 1.5 hours after we arrived at the restaurant and we were offered a drink or coffee as compensation for the delays. We declined as didn’t want to wait any longer. The manager discounted the bill as a goodwill gesture. The good food is spoilt by poor slow service. The place seems totally disorganised. There were plenty of waitresses for the number of tables but there seemed to be no system in place. They’d disappear for ages, sometimes pouring drinks at the bar. Surely there should be a bar tender to do this? Perhaps they’d benefit from using tablets instead of handwriting orders down? Not sure I’d go back

We visited on a Wednesday night in early October. My friend is a vegetarian and she was happy with the choices available to her. We had a 3 course meal with a soft drink at the beginning and tea for two after. My starter was the stilton panna cotta with pear sorbet, which was fantastic, my friend had the deep fried onion breaded brie which was delicious. My main course was 'Three Little Pigs' which consisted of pork belly, crackling, onion mashed potato, celeriac and cider sauce. I can honestly say it was fantastic. My friend had the Mediterranean vegetables and goats cheese tartlet which was accompanied by a rocket salad and crushed new potatoes, absolutely lovely. For desert I had the Lemon Curd Ice-cream Sundae and my friend and the Crème Brulee with crushed shortbread and berries both were perfect. The service was very good, attentive but not intrusive. All in all I can wholly recommend it. Excellent. Thank you for a lovely night out.

I visited recently for an evening meal utilising the two course menu. I found the staff where quick to approach and get us seated and where attentive for most of the night. For my first course I had the stilton panna cotta which didn't have enough stilton for my taste but overall was quite good, although I thought it would have made a better sweet. For the main I had the chicken which arrived dry, with little taste, under seasoned and although the sauce was nice there was not enough of it. The vegetables lacked variety and the dauphinoise potatoes lacked cream. Very disappointing. Would I return, a firm no.

Was recommended to try this by a friend so we went for lunch it was excellent in the Mucky Duck pub part of the hotel. My husband had black pudding scotch eggs and the pork three ways, I had the ham hock bomb bombs and the chicken pie all of which was excellent at £13 for 2 courses before five really good value. Then we went for Sunday lunch my husband had the pork and I had the Lamb he had sticky toffee pudding and I had Eton Mess. All again excellent we did give a little constructive criticism about the roast potatoes and this was dealt with in a positive polite manner.

I have been to the Swan three times and always had a lovely....my previous reviews show this ...today due enjoying other visits I took my Mum for her birthday. As soon as I walked in the male behind the bar clearly wasn't having a good day. He served us drinks and then we seated ourselves no offer of any menus ....and no explanation of whether it was table service or not. I then collected two menus off the bar only to have taken back from me by the same rude barperson who announced you have took all my menus and snapped it out ..we were made to feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave ...I went to the reception to complain and the receptionist apologised and advised he would speak to the duty manager about it . As he didn't take my details im struggling to know how they will contact me . It has ruined my mum's birthday ....needless to say I will not be booking there for works Christmas do or any other event ....Thank you to the Horn Inn for rescuing my mum's birthday xxx

Whilst there was a good menu, The food was very disappointing. It was tasteless and had just been “thrown on the plate”.

Chose the white swan for a change nice atmosphere good food shame about the bar staff had to wait to be served as she was to busy standing with her back to me texting! so went to other bar and was sent back then told I should of rung the bell. Firstly I hadn't seen the bell and secondly if the barmaid had been paying attention to her customers I wouldn't of needed to ring it! She obviously took offence as never came over and asked us if everything was ok or if we wanted anything. Young guy with a ponytail who came to clear was very pleasant but left wishing we'd gone somewhere else.

Stayed one night and it is a lovely stay, with a nicely decorated and clean room although on the expensive side for what it is. Room was very small. Included breakfast was terrible and certainly needs reviewing if you are to charge heavily for a night stay. English breakfast should you choose was expensive!

Me and my friend went for lunch and was met with staff with very poor attitudes from the off. As soon as we walked in and asked if we could have a table for two, we where asked were we wanted to sit, we said near the window. There were only two tables in use in the restaurant and we went and sat on a table set for four, we then got the response rudely of "are you waiting for two more?", my friend replied "no" which resulted in a commented under his breath of us wanting a bigger table. He walked off and we were in shock but thought we would still eat here.

Went here for lunch last week for the first time. Ended up having 3 courses each and it was only £15 per head. It certainly wasn't £15/head food though! Great quality food, service was excellent, friendly staff. I can recommend the Riptide Rose they serve, very nice!

Unfortunately we chose this place for Xmas lunch ..big mistake. Even though all food courses were pre ordered by everyone (everyone in the place that is !!) the delays were ridiculous and im convinced if my partner's mother hadn't spoken up we would be still sitting there now.Appetiser and starter were fair but the main was shocking, the meat had me baffled..and still has..but by that time starvation had kicked in....complete with 5 brussels between 4 of us.(that's 1.25 each) We had a word for more veg and promptly a deluge of sprouts arrived! No idea what the ice cream was in the desert..but it was frozen solid.Teas and coffee etc were all extra.(well it as only £65) Did feel a little sorry for the staff who received all the flak from numerous irate customers. Possibly the worst £65 i've ever spent. Never Again
