The Jade Restaurant in Windsor and Maidenhead

My one criticism is that noone talked us through the specials board. My squid was tender, lightly battered and tossed in deep fried garlic and chillies, so tasty. I ordered Tom Yam vermicelli, such an awesome bowl of lightly spiced broth with soft king prawns and a plethora of vermicelli.

New management. Now have some Malaysian dishes. Kenny front of house is a friendly smiley guy. Always a good experience.

We decided to have Chinese Take away tonight and from the moment we walked in it felt strange! No member of staff was smiling! When our order was ready, the woman that gave us our order couldn't get us out there fast enough! The when we got home to finally eat our order the taste of the food was just bland. We ordered two chicken Chow main, pad Thai king prawn, chicken gyoza and prawn crackers. Even more disappointing is the chicken gyoza. 5 pieces for £9.80 and the sauce was disgusting! All I can say is shame Sunninghill Cafe is not open in the evening. If you really want to taste what real noodles/gyoza taste like then go to Sun Cafe for sure. The Jade is definitely well over priced and no flavor to go with it!

We normally get takeaway from Jade on a regular for the last 5 years however the last two times we have ordered the Pad Thai and Thai Green Curry, it has been completly bland. Im not sure if the chef has changed or management but I feel my money has been wasted. So sorry but I will not be ordering again.

We use this for our takeaways only. The food is very good, and the service and speed also very good. However, the actually restaurant just has no atmosphere, which is a real shame.

Less than good. Small portions of rather bland tasting food. Over-priced for what it was. I have had far better. Disappointing….this place used to be fantastic.

We had a lovely meal at the Jade Restaurant in Sunninghill which is under new management. Kenny looked after us really well. The Nasi goreng with the stuffed aubergine with minced prawns in black bean sauce was excellent. Keep an eye out for Chinese new year at the Jade from 9 Feb 24 - there could well be some new dishes on the menu.

Perfectly good Chinese cuisine but very expensive.

Heard mixed reviews from friends and family some say fantastic some say not so. Unfortunately my visit was a disappointment the food was less to say somewhat awful and tasteless. Although the service was lovely - it was early in the week so was empty. Sorry!!!

Food is the worst food I’ve ever had ! Also they put on a £15 surcharge. No wonder it was so empty. Staff was nice but food was bad.

Excellent food I have experienced many a Chinese restaurant from soho to Hong Kong. To New York never had anything much better than this anywhere

The taste, it use to be much better…

My wife and I came here for a date night for the first time since being married. We are so glad we chose this restaurant. The food was delicious. Waiters were kind and patient whilst we chose what to have. highly recommend, we will be returning.

I first visited this restaurant in 1983 as a 9-year-old. Back then Chinese cuisine was super-exotic and the Jade Fountain (as it was known then) was the only game in town. We loved it from the very first visit. Over the years, I must have been back at least a hundred times and I have never, ever been disappointed. The food is exceptional, the service flawless and the owner a wonderfully kind and friendly man. Our latest visit was as enjoyable as ever. My wife and I took our son (the 4th generation of our family to enjoy the Jade) and, as ever, the experience was delightful. For delicious, high quality, reasonably priced Chinese food that is beautifully presented you cannot do better. Can’t wait for my next visit.

Mixed feelings on this one. The restaurant is on the pricy side but white linen table cloths and linen napkins are expensive to clean. Our reason for choosing "The Jade" was the various preparations of scallops on the menu, there were three different kinds and we planned to try them all. Unfortunately scallops, although listed, were off the menu ☹️ The remaining choices were fairly standard and could be found in any Chinese restaurant. What we did eventually chose was nicely presented and tasty. Service was efficient but staff attitude could be "chatty and polite", "mildly impatient" or "nonchalant" depending on who brought the particular dish to the table; no one was rude. Overall it was a pleasant evening but would have been better if scallops were available.

The food is delicious, shredded duck starter was beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will be returning soon.

The best Chinese restaurant! The food was lovely they didn’t take long! Also we just walked without booking a table… the staff was very friendly and even advise us not to order more food because it was going to be a lot of food from what we already ordered not like some other restaurant they would just think about the money… lol Overall great experience I would go back again.

Ordered a lobster 3 days in advance explained to the staff of the special Occasion Could not have asked for better service or food. Flavours were amazing Atmosphere is what you make it No noises music but the noise of people enjoying the food and the company they are out with.

Absolute worst service I’ve experienced!!!!! Food was bang average but the levels of service this place gives is just appalling. The little crazy woman running around ranting it customers cos she expects you to pay for her to give you free water! I would never ever visit this place again. Ribs also come with no meat on them embarrassing.

My daughter and son took me here as a Mother's day present on the Friday before the actual day. We had the set menu as I think it's easier that way. They enjoyed all the food but I'm not a Chinese food connoisseur altho it was my choice to go there. Liked the duck and pork and chicken but wasn't wowed. Perhaps Chinese is just not me. Very friendly service. Quite pricey.

Had heard good things about the Jade, but was a bit disappointed. First, the atmosphere, well, there really isn't any. We were quite a large group, so we're stuck down the bottom on our own, which didn't really help, but the decor is cold and uninviting. The service can best be described as emotionless. Yes, they took our orders, delivered good and drink, and cleared the table, but communication was the bare necessity. The food was OK, nothing special, pretty standard Chinese. We enjoyed the meal and the wine was good, which was handy as there was very little choice.

I had an amazing meal at The Jade Restaurant with my Mum, the service was very good, the food was the best Chinese I've ever had although it was a little pricey, I would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant.

This place is incredible, the best Chinese restaurant I have been to in years, the dishes are fresh and very tasty. A little pricy but we'll worth a visit.

We used Jade restaurant for the first time and it was utterly disappointing! Very very expensive and the food was the worse I have ever had. The satay was dry, over cooked we couldn’t eat it and the sauce was processed. The prawn toast was burnt, overcooked and so dry making it hard to swallow. The mains were just as bad. Also the Manager was quite rude so will definitely not go there again.

We had a meal lastnight very disappointed as it wasn't great the food was dry it seemed like it wasn't cooked to order... Bad experience maybe but for the price not good.

Food was good.price exorbitant really expensive. 2 pints soda water £12 8 toffee apple and 4 scoops ice cream £32 then have nerve to add 10% service charge on everything plus wine £32 a bottle plus service charge added ridiculous.

The food here is ok, but extortionately expensive. I ordered my usual from here which typically costs around £35 at most Chinese restaurants, and at The Jade I paid almost £70. I was shocked after asking for little bit of extra hoisin sauce they'd actually charged me £3 for this. Overall the food was ok, but it's nothing special to warrant paying double what I would elsewhere. Overall terrible value for money.

Not enough food for the cost of the set menus

I went last night to the Jade for a meal. The food is exceptional! Very tasty and well prepared and you can chose among many menu options. I love the service at the place and the owners are so friendly with the guests and always takes care to offer the best quality! I highly recommend this place.

I’m really surprised with David’s review (the one before mine) What a coincidence that I was waiting for my take away at the same time that he came in with his daughter demanding a table… All the owner said is ‘’I’m sorry but we are fully booked tonight, we will have tables available at 9pm or you can order take away instead’’ At any moment the owner was aggressive or rude, he offered the customer another alternative instead, customer was rude and unhappy and he left. How is it possible to have stomach ache if you didn’t eat there or order any takeaway? And if is the case where you had stomach ache in the past because of the food from there, why would you come back and get really angry when they tell you is fully booked? From my own perspective I could see that the restaurant was full and they had a massive table aswell. I don’t think is nice writing a fake reviews… Here is my review: Amazing food, amazing waiters, the owner is really nice and friendly. I’ve been coming there for the last 7 years and I never had a problem or complain about service or food.

The manager of this place, the one with the ugly face and blue shirt, does not understand that an aggressive attitude in front of an 11 year old child will earn him an 1 star review. On top of this, the food here gave me a stomach ache. I do not recommend this place at all. There are so many nicer alternatives in the vicinity.

Came here last night with my Husband, his friend and wife who are regulars here which is why the Restaurant was chosen. Restaurant itself is lovely, clean and the staff are nice. For starters I ordered Prawns with chilli and garlic, I found the batter on the Prawns very salty and I do love salt but slightly too much for me. Main course was ok nothing special needed more flavour in the dishes and the portion sizes were quite small for what they charge per dish. Overall the service was good, not sure if I will go back.

Most dissatisfied, over priced, small portions. One bowl of rice for £11.00 is ridiculous. Following day had nothing my toilet issues.

Yes the recipient on the phone call can be abrupt at times but that doesn't bother me as he gets the order correct. The food is amazing, not oily at all as you find at some establishment and their dishes are wonderful. Why the four star and not the 5 star? This is because it is expensive for what it is. We use this place once every 3 months!

Wanted a take away, however right from the beginning the waiter/ owner wasn't helpful at all and seemed like we were inconvenience to him. Ordered 2 pad thai dishes and 1 portion of spring rolls. The pad thai was okish, for £10 each I was expected much tastier and we were gobsmacked to find out at home that the spring rolls portion contained only 6 mini spring rolls, had no sauce included and paid £8.25 for it. All in one I would not recommend this restaurant to visit.

Unfortunately food and service has never been a good experience

By far the best Chinese takeaway in the area following the demise of the Ming years ago. Similarly priced (it is expensive) but the food is so much better than from any other Chinese takeaway around here. We see it as a special treat, to enjoy occasionally only. Yes, the chap on the phone is quite direct, but he’s taking your order, and he’s taking it correctly. Maybe he’s just focused on his job. I have no problems with it. We have not eaten at the restaurant, yet.

Very enjoyable evening at The Jade, great selection of tasty dishes. Welcoming atmosphere, attentive staff and we felt well looked after, thank you.

First time I have tried this place and have to say very disappointed, booked this for a friend's birthday most of the food is fried! I ordered the peppercorn asparagus which again was fried but very lazily prepared the stalk had not been removed which made it chewy the stalks need to be removed! I ordered one desert as a birthday celebration which was one banana fritter with ice cream a charge of £20 is a total rip off for a banana and ice cream. I don't think I will be visiting again overpriced for lots of deep fried food.

Walking into the jade felt pleasant, not busy but friendly atmosphere. But sadly that's where my compliments end. I'm not one to usually moan at pricing but when the service rush you especially when they're as quiet as they were! My expectations were not met at all. We didn't even stay to finish our food. We asked politely to have the rest cooked and we'd take it away. I would have happily paid the bill at those prices if it had been good service and good food. Orederves were extortionate prices for adequate food. The duck was dry and by that point we wanted out just so I didn't say anything. Being a journalist, a foodie and travelling alot over the years has allowed me the fortune of trying lots of restaurants at different prices, in different places. I don't think I will try again at those prices and I cannot recommend the place when there are so many better places as close as Windsor at a fraction of the price and with dramatically different service. Maybe they judged books by their cover when we visited, who knows? Paid bill but removed service charge. Said thank you and left peacefully, but extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. I will be clear, not bad food, but it didn't come close to living up to the price tags by each dish. *edit While Im lucky to say that while both myself & my friend got it out our system quickly, the food (we shared) definitely had issues. We both had stomach cramps (his started at the restaurant) and spent far too long on our toilets.

Very disappointed with quality of food, but it was the process that were outrageous and unforgivable, could not possibly recommend it, seriously you need to get rid of your 12% service charge, just for bringing the food to out table.felt cheated

Although the Crispy Duck was nice the price for half even with 10% discount is extremely expensive and practically double what you would pay anywhere else. The duck was certainly not worth the money. Outrageous pricing!! And that’s why only 1 star rating.

Well placed seating welcomes you. Settle down to a bottle of good Rioja, order sesame prawns on toast whilst considering the menu. We usually have some crispy duck then, and possibly a main course. Food is mediocre at best, but expensively priced. Service was ok, although we were barked at by the owner as soon as we walked in the door for not having a face mask on. Food: For a dish you'd expect to pay £6-7 elsewhere they charge £12-13 here. Hors d'oeuvre's for example are £25 for two people, and we got 2 ribs, a measly portion of seaweed, 2 sesame prawn toast, two satay chicken skewers and 4 tiny spring rolls - probably £15 worth at most. Drinks: A glass of coke - £3! I was expecting a pint for that, and yet I get probably 250ml of coke in a glass filled to the top with ice, an utter rip off. Service: We were also the only people in the restaurant, quite literally, and so we had someone stood about 10ft away basically stood there watching for the entire meal, extremely off putting when you’re trying to have a nice meal with your partner. Service charge: To add insult to injury they automatically add a “discretionary” 12.5% service charge to your bill – No, I don’t think so, you can remove that. If I think the service has been good enough to warrant a gratuity then I will leave one. Our bill ended up being £95 plus their service charge of £11, total of £106, for a meal that would have cost us £50-60 at most elsewhere. I wouldn’t return to this place.

The food wasn't good quality at all, and the dishes lacked ingredients, and a modest meal for two cost a whopping £40 with no free prawn crackers! The man who answered the phone and who served on arrival (as they don't deliver) was abrupt and lacked warmth. Also needed to frequently visit the bathroom after! Try Shanghai in Wokingham, for £20 you could get the same amount of dishes and the quality of meat and home cooked flavours are delicious. Will never go to Jade again, it was ridiculously overpriced and the food was below average. Hope this is helpful.

Dear Jade team, We absolutely love the food at the Jade and  the quality is second to none BUT we find the gentleman in the telephone taking our orders to collect so abrupt and sometimes quite rude.. it REALLY puts us off ordering from Jade. We are local, regular customers (not going by the name we usually use when ordering our meals). Its not a big thing to ask for some friendliness and politeness on the end of the phone is it?  I hope this makes a difference or Im afraid we will have no alternative but to find an another restaurant (even if it means travelling) we both dread being the one to speak to this person each week! Please dont make us take our business elsewhere :(

Food was very disappointing, what has happened to the Chef? The food was marvellous before lockdown. If I could I would demand my money back.

Enjoyed numerous meals at this restaurant including takeaway since covid-19 measures. Every time I have enjoyed delicious, quality food and experienced top service.

Had Chicken Noodles and Dumpling takeaway last night, and now have food poisoning. Pretty disappointing from an 'upmarket' Chinese.

I needed some Peking duck take away and was told the restaurant is too busy so no take away orders would be cooked. Surely if inwas told to wait 20 mins as they were busy it would not have been a problem..very rude person on the phone and i simply hung up..

Had my Birthday meal here on Saturday with nine of my family and were very well looked after. We tend to major on the Starters, had a great selection and every dish was excellent. You get what you pay for and the quality of the food here is the best I've had in a Chinese restaurant for a very, very long time.....anywhere. I can highly recommend the Crispy Pork Chunks, Ribs in Fruity Sauce (in fact any of the Starter/Dim Sum really) and any of the Main Course Noodle dishes. Considering how busy it was, the service was seamless and the hosting very attentive. Would recommend booking on Friday or Saturday as it is very popular over the weekend.

Good food, good prices. Reservations are needed

I found the food to be very average and the drinks severely overpriced, then to add a 12.5% service charge without even asking if this is ok was out of order. The set meal was £28 pp but we end up paying £135 after having one drink each and paying 12.5% service charge. I don't go out for a Chinese meal and expect to be ripped off, so for this reason we will not be using this restaurant again which would have ended up being a regular had we got value for money. Sadly this left a bad taste in our mouths

Delicious food. Staff very stressed but nice.

It used to be excellent, but was very disappointing on this visit, and Very expensive. Very sparing on the food, and the staff did not seem interested. Many takeaways in the past, and excellent meals in the restaurant had led us to book for 16 people. All of those people (bar the two 4 year olds) said they would not use the Jade Fountain again. Disappointing for the lady who had booked the restaurant for an important family occasion. Never again!

This is now the Jade, having changed hands a few years ago. The menu is slightly different but still excellent. Service outstanding. Lovely atmosphere. We are local so can walk but there is parking in the car park behind the restaurant in Queen's Road. Would highly recommend!
