Excellent place for dining. Nice looking interior, absolutely delicious food, and top service. What more could you ask for. I tried the Salt and pepper tempura squid, as well as roasted scallops for starters. For main enjoyed the Grilled Peruvian chicken. Top notch.

The English breakfast was mediocre, no scrambled eggs. The waiters are very professional, the environment is beautiful, and the price is slightly expensive. It has already caught up with the 12.5% service fee in London.

I’ve visited a couple of different Ivy restaurants and always enjoyed them (it was my suggestion to take some visiting Polish colleagues there for some quintessentially British culture) and this visit was no exception. The service and atmosphere are 10/10 and the prices are generally very reasonable. I was extremely disappointed to see that the cheese soufflé was no longer on the menu and my main course wasn’t particularly special, but the French onion soup and crusty bread was delicious. I’ll have no hesitation to go back again in the future.

We decided to book reservations here for our year anniversary. Having never dined here before I was really excited and it did not disappoint. We had trouble finding a car park space, so I called the restaurant and they were completely understanding. The waiter was amazing giving a fast, professional and friendly service. They were also very knowledgeable when pairing wines to my menu selections. We were seated in a cozy, intimate booth. The restaurant itself was clean, warm and had the perfect anniversary ambience. We will definitely be back!!!

Ambiance and service as expected. Food quality was poor. I don't believe the main course was actually 'cooked' more a re-heated ready meal, just disappointing. The desert was awful, the chocolate brownies were a semi hard chewy mush. Won't return any time soon.

Summary: This restaurant has great potential, but a few areas could use improvement. Pros: Pleasant atmosphere with attractive decor. Staff are smartly dressed. Extensive menu with a wide range of dishes, all reasonably priced. A few deals offer excellent value for money. The food was tasty and well presented. A nice gesture with a birthday dessert added as a special touch Cons: We booked a table for five but were squeezed onto two small square tables, with one of us awkwardly seated at the side. When I asked the manager if they were fully booked, he said no. Fortunately, he added another table, but insisted the original table was meant for five. In future, I’d ensure to visit with an even-numbered group to avoid being cramped. Ingredient shortages: We ordered three steaks and two seabass dishes, but the waiter informed us that they only had one seabass left, even though it was only 7:30 pm and it wasn’t a busy night. Limited dessert options: Out of the three available desserts, one was already out of stock by the time we ordered. We opted for a set menu that included a glass of sparkling wine, and mentioned we’d order a separate bottle later. However, the waiter insisted we order the bottle immediately, even before we’d looked at the wine menu. This felt uncomfortable, and we ended up with a glass of sparkling wine, a glass of wine, and water each on the table. Not sure why we were rushed to order the wine and served immediately. Service charge: A 12.5% service charge felt excessive—especially for the Midlands. The service didn’t stand out enough to justify such a high fee. While we made the most of our evening, the overall experience was not special enough to encourage an immediate return. However, if you manage to avoid the issues we encountered, you should have a pleasant dining experience.

I'd not been to the Ivy in Birmingham before , but this one has a fabulous atmosphere and very attentive and helpful staff. The food was great, as usual and it was completely packed so they are obviously doing something right. The dry iced dessert was a nice surprise and I've only just twigged that the Latte pattern is an Ivy leaf. What was particularly nice was not being hassled to free up the table, as we were meeting family. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the worst The Ivy experience I've had... and I've had a few! The service, the food, the whole experience has always been top tier at the Covent Garden, Tower Hill, Canary Wharf and Blackheath branches (as well as The Ivy Asia St Pauls and Guildford) so I went to this branch, in Birmingham, with very high expectations. What’s even more of a shame is it was one of my friends first time ever eating at The Ivy and her first experience was not a true reflection of what dining at The Ivy should be. The decor, vibe and food were all still really good, but what let this branch down was the very slow and very nonchalant service we received. - Our drinks arrived within good time but we waited ages for our starters. - The gap between our starters and our mains was so long that we had to ask our waitress where our dinner was AND it finally arrived over 1.5 hrs since our reservation start time! - An apology was only made after we’d asked where the food was. Even then, not once during our dinner were we asked whether we wanted another drink. We had the same drinks all evening. - We'd asked to see the dessert menu early on, while making our dinner choices and it wasn't brought to us. Deflated, we didn’t bother to remind her but decided to leave it and figured we’d get dessert elsewhere instead. In the end they removed our drinks from the bill, as a goodwill gesture, but the damage had already been done. Unfortunately, not a good experience.

This restaurant is buzzing with vibe. Always packed and it does not surprise me that they may also be returning customers. The waiters treat you like royalty, immaculately dressed, with a desire to give you the best experience possible. Now the food OMG words cannot describe how good the food looks , beautifully presented ( Chicken starters on skewers & Sashed burgers with cheese and chips, apologies if it’s not the correct name) like a dish from Master Chef. The blend of flavors and choice of dishes can make this outing the main event for the evening. Be sure to book it in advance as you can’t fully appreciate this experience by chance, with having to wait. If you appreciate value as do others, plan it accordingly and you won’t be disappointed.

Felt very rushed to get us in and out of the restaurant, had two people waiting on our table which just lead to miscommunications. When ordering they forgot to add an item to the order and had to come back again to ask, again constantly interrupting our experience, when watching other tables they weren’t interrupted nearly as much. Especially as a lone couple celebrating a birthday that day the amount of attention was too much. When ordering drinks we enquired about non-alcoholic drinks, they only offered alcoholic options so I had to find non-alcoholic options myself and quickly decide while they stood there waiting. Then when the food arrived my partners burger was undercooked, I’ve never been to a restaurant where a burger was well undercooked. As for my steak I asked for medium and it arrived rare, when ordering medium you expect medium, I didn’t ask for it to be redone as by this point I was not enjoying the experience, especially as my first time going to any of The Ivy restaurants. Neither of us finished our meals, paid way too much, and a very disappointing birthday lunch. Wouldn’t recommend especially if you’re not local or a regular to the restaurant. Go somewhere else as it’s not worth the money.

Magda was our waitress for the evening, and she was very attentive but not intrusive. This was our first visit to the Ivy, an anniversary gift from friends, and l must say the design and atmosphere created is amazing in our opinion. We did have an issue with the food though unfortunately one of our dishes was not as warm as it should have been, very tasty but not up to the expected Ivy standard. Magda was so apologetic and offered a free dessert. Also our bill became a little confusing as we had a gift voucher for our meal, which wasn't taken off. Magda couldn't apologize enough, and even refused a tip, as she felt her service wasn't up to standard. She is a real credit. Overall we loved it there and would certainly be going again.

This is not somewhere we would probably go again as it is a treat for us but if I could I would be a regular. We were seen to quickly by a wonderful chap who was very polite and our drinks came super fast. Food also didn't take very long to come out. Beautiful full English breakfast, I was quite hungry so wanted a significant breakfast otherwise I would have ordered the eggs benedict...or pancakes...or poached eggs and avocado...or pastries...I'm going to have to revisit aren't I. Came here for an anniversary meal as our last experience was fantastic but we left disappointed. The scallop starter had no taste to the foam or truffle and the apple tarte fine still tasted so strongly of alcohol that I couldn't finish. Our waiter wasn't on the ball. We had to ask repeatedly to have our wine topped up and for the bill. When collecting out plates, he wouldn't speak and just took the plates. Even when we were seated by the hostess, she failed to mention some items on the menu were unavailable, which meant someone in our party had to panic order. The stairs to the loos are very slippery and the loos themselves are quite overwhelming. The scent in there from some sort of diffuser was particularly strong. Finally, we were shocked that young children were dining there on an evening. We were sat next to a table with two small children. The iPad on the table, things getting knocked off and squealing really detracted from the atmosphere. On a more positive note, we had a lovely table in the window. We'd highly recommend the shepherd's pie, buratta, and fishcake. The zucchini were also lovely but the tongs were quite frustrating to use as they kept slipping over each other. All in all, we would return but just for dinner, not a special occasion.

The afternoon tea presented was lacking in savoury food - 3 items; the one with cucumber was very disappointing and the texture was soft and lacking 'interest' The scones were small and overcooked and , as a consequence, were dry. The sweet food was sickly - the poppy seed cake was more butter icing than cake, the 'raspberry bun had a very odd tasting filling and the chocolate pot was put to one side after a small mouthful. Needless to say I will not be recommending the afternoon tea to friends, which is a pity as on all the other occasions I have eaten at the Ivy the food has been tasty and value for money

They bought out a celebration choux bun for mum with a candle and happy birthday for her, which she loved. Decor is beautiful, and staff were lovely and friendly. I had high hopes for dining at The Ivy, inspired by all the glowing reviews I've heard. Unfortunately, my recent visit for Sunday lunch left me quite disappointed. Upon arrival, the restaurant had a lively atmosphere, which was a positive start. However, I was disheartened to learn from our waitress that they were out of Sunday roasts—something I had specifically come for. In light of this, I decided to order the Fillet steak, requesting it to be cooked medium to well done. After a wait, my meal arrived, but to my dismay, the steak was rare and practically mooing! I returned it to the kitchen, and while I waited an additional 20 minutes for it to be redone, my husband had already finished his meal. When the replacement steak finally arrived, it was tough and did not meet the expectations I had based on previous reviews. As a gesture of goodwill our waitress said we could order complimentary desserts. Which was nice to be fair. However, when the bill arrived they tried to charge us for them! Also, adding £16.25 for service charge!! Overall, while the atmosphere was enjoyable, the service and food quality did not live up to what I had hoped for. I left feeling quite let down and would hesitate to return based on this experience.

I loved my delicious monkfish curry but my son thought his burger was just on as in nothing special. We love the decoration though, specially the birds wallpaper.

My friend & I had Afternoon Tea, the sandwiches were unusual and delicious, the chocolate mousse exquisite. After that we can only say the rest of our "tea" was mediocre. The scones were dry and over baked, the cakes uninspiring, a tiny donut, a lemon iced bun and a sponge ball with pink buttercream filling. The Ivy can do better than this.

Came here for a works do, the service was great, but unfortunately the steak was severely over cooked, asked for medium rare, it came as very well done tough as rubber.

My partner and I booked The Ivy for a special 'date lunch' before attending an exhibition. As soon as we arrived, the service was just amazing - attentive, welcoming and warm. We were both utterly charmed by the beautiful decor, 1920s vibe and skillfully mixed cocktails. My partner ordered crab salad, shepherds pie and tenderstem broccoli and was bowled away by the presentation, taste and attention to detail. He would give you 5 stars I am sure for food. As a vegetarian, I ordered goats curd salad and a vegan burger. What a disappointment! Completely lacking in any flavour and appearing as if it had been literally thrown together, I can honestly say it is one of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered. I had to leave most of my main. A beautiful place that clearly prides itself on impeccable service. Please look at your vegetarian and vegan offerings so we too can fully immerse ourselves in The Ivy experience.

The Ivy always delivers in service, decor & food quality. The fixed menus are reasonable value but the alcohol is pricey! For a special occasion why not.

A first-time visit for us, as part of a celebration day for a family member's graduation day. The food choice was wide and varied with something to suit all ages, tastes, and pockets. The menu pricing was good value, and everybody agreed the food was excellent from a wide range of dishes enjoyed by us all. Drinks were reasonably priced, although the wine list was a tad expensive for medium range wines in some cases. Our server was welcoming, helpful, and efficient, which helped a lot! There was a very lively buzz throughout, which suited our party without being overwhelming. I would recommend a visit and we will certainly be visiting again.

Having visited the Cambridge Ivy last month for brunch, the same group of friends and I came to the Birmingham Ivy for afternoon tea. Delicious selection of food and dietary requirements were checked and catered for. We started with prosecco and cocktails and staff allowed us to enjoy our drinks rather than rushing to bring out the food. The sandwich selection was great and my meat eating friends highly rated the chicken one. The cakes were outstanding and there was a good variety. When ready, we were supplied with plenty of tea. We were asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and a cake with a candle was brought out for the birthday girl. Really good place for special occasions and looking forward to either trying lunch or dinner next.

The place was beautiful along with the food. But I have to admit it's no different from having a burger anywhere else. Only there is more staff and the turn around is quicker and it's much more expensive.

Afternoon tea was excellent and they catered for a gluten and dairy free diet unfortunately we had to wait a while as they only did the tea for 5 people when I booked for 7 and they confirmed the number of people twice. Otherwise a very enjoyable afternoon

I’ve always had nice meals at the ivy chain - solid, dependable and tasty. Today our waitress just got everything wrong and nothing arrived on time. Drinks didn’t arrive until a second manager got involved. When food came only half came. Then half a dish arrived - no sauce for steak, which was incinerated not medium. Pasta arrived in a solid gelatinous lump unseasoned (meant to be scallops and crab.). It fell with a thump to plate. They forgot to serve wine so we had to go to get it from where they were holding it. On the plus side the tarte tatin and chocolate bonnet were fab But it was a truly awful. To incinerate a steak. To cook pasta till it is a lump, to fail to season, and to have a waitress who just forgot to bring anything. It was so bad I probably now will not ever be back to an Ivy

We had a special event here for my partners menu. Hengata was absolutely incredible! They prepared a totally new tasting menu for the occasion which was much better value for money than anywhere else in Harborne. The food was perfect and the chefs and the waiting team couldn’t have looked after us better. Thank you to the Hengata team!

I took my couple to Chapter to celebrate her getting anew job. We often use Chapter as the food is excellent and the service impeccable. Sadly, 14th September we didn't have the best experience. The food and service were as good as ever, but there was a birthday party of some 30 people which were unbelievably loud - raucous even. It was like being a football match. I have no issue with restaurants entertaining such number - or even such groups enjoying themselves, but it would nice to be advised in advance as it almost ruined the evening.

Wow! I'm still reeling from just how disappointed we all are by our visit to Akram's last night. We are BIG Asian food fans willing to travel some distance to get the most authentic food. We were recommended Akram's by an Uber driver (on our way back from our usual eaterie) and were genuinely excited at what we were told. On arrival it was truly 'heaving' and we did have to wait over-time for our booked table; but were so excited we just took it in our stride. The staff were friendly and hugely efficient - operating like a well-oiled machine; which they needed to in order to keep on top of the service! After possibly the best Papadoms and Pickles selection I think we've seen to date, our main courses arrived; within 30 seconds of the Paps being cleared away; again, a well-oiled machine,,, We all ordered different dishes; a Balti Fish and Vegetable Karahi (if memory serves); a Balti King Prawn Karahi; a Chicken Dansak and a chicken Tikka Masala. On serving, our first reaction was 'this doesn't look appetising or filling'; served in large balti dishes, the Chicken and Prawn dishes literally looked like a few lonely pieces of meat in a alternately thick / watery or gloopy sauce. But we reserved judgement for the 'taste-test.' On the Dansak - even the pineapple in the sauce was utterly tasteless; The Tikka Masala tasted of nothing other than sugar; The Fish and Vegetable Karahi was 1. devoid of any flavour and 2. almost completely devoid of any fish... The King Prawn Karahi was to put it mildy; completely tasteless... though labelled as 'Spicy'. I actually used salt and pepper to try to give it some flavour as truthfully, I've tasted spicier Oxo based gravy... The King Prawns were totally overcooked and I even let someone else taste 1 to see if they could recognise the flavour... "Water - it tastes like water" was the unsolicited and objective input; yes - I don't know if they were fresh-water prawns (is that a thing) or had been marinated in fresh water - but it was genuinely the first time I have tasted - tasteless prawns; and I've eaten in 108 countries... To their credit, when the staff came to clear up, they asked if everything was ok and I politely told them how disappointed we were with the food for which the staff-member apologised. If someone had served me a glass of wine as disappointing as the food was, it would've gone straight down the sink. Nothing tasted 'bad' such that we could really complain; but then nothing 'tasted' of anything... Truthfully, our go-to places are The S'oak (Selly Oak), The Masala Merchant (Moseley) and Tamasha (Harborne / Edgbaston). The first listed is by far the best and best value. We noted that none of the customers in Akram were actually Indian, Bangladeshi or Pakistani - which really should have been our warning. Great staff; great service; just tasteless and overcooked food. Cannot recommend and genuinely, we feel so disappointed as to feel 'cheated.'
