We booked a table for my daughter's birthday last week.We where really looking forward to it. I mentioned in my booking it was actually my daughter's birthday that day as well hoping they'd offer her a free glass of bubbly or something, but she got absolutely nothing and it wasn't even commented on which was a shame. I'm afraid l was actually really disappointed in the food. I had luke warm soup at £10 a bowl and l didn't even get a bread roll to go with it. I then had what l would call a chicken escalope at £20 it came with absolutely nothing else just abit of greenery. All vegetables are very expensive extras. I didn't order a sweet as l saw the tiny portions other people where getting served and l wasn't prepared to pay the extortionate prices they were asking. I know it has a reputation for being a bit upmarket but the only upmarket part l found was the atmosphere surroundings and the service. The food was definitely not anything special at all and was luke warm and well overpriced, I've had better in a pub. Sorry but we won't be returning.

I always love the architecture and overall decor inside. For Starters we had the Buffalo mozzarella and the Roasted Scallops. The mozzarella starter was fantastic, cold mozzarella with grapes, truffle honey and a sweet puree. The salty and sweet flavours work really well. The roasted scallops were so tender and full of flavour. On a bed of creamed spinach and potatoes puffs. The garlic creamy sauce worked really well with the tender scallops. Very filling and perfect amount. I really enjoyed these and definitely would recommend. 9.5/10 for both. For our Mains we had a Truffle Burger and I had The Smoked haddock/ Salmon fishcake. I honestly was blown away. The poached egg on top with the bed of peas went perfect with the fishcake. So many nice flavours and incredibly filling. It’s a simple dish but works really well. 10/10! Lastly for dessert we shared the iconic chocolate bombe. A melting dome with vanilla ice cream honeycomb and hot Caramel sauce. It is a great dessert to share, I love how the dome melts away from the hot sauce. A sweetness overloaded but is perfect after the salty starters and mains. I had such a wonderful experience today. I couldn’t recommend The Ivy enough. Really worth the price, compared to today and 2 years ago I feel like The Ivy have gotten even better.

Nice venue. Awful service-ask for something expect to be waiting ages, and food was not great. I had a better fish and chips in Harvester the day before, than the fish and chips in here. Also had popular starters on the menu that are completely out of stock, then also he forgot to even say this before taking our order… Poor from a proclaimed upper class restaurant.

First time visiting, had a meal in the evening, menu wasn't very big, but enough to choose something for everyone. We had fishcake and chicken and also very impressive desserts (most expensive ones we ever had too). Main courses doesn't have sides, but we had plenty and was enough space left for dessert. Also lots of cocktail options, many never heard of. Very good service from staff, only thing I wish I had a chance to pour hot caramel sauce on my dessert (chocolate bombe) as I didn't get time to take a picture or video and staff poured the sauce and it soon looked a mess (all chocolate dome melted). Either let customer do the pouring (which I would have loved to) or give them a chance to take a picture. All happened within seconds of putting plate down. My boyfriend had a very cute snowman dessert that came covered in glass dome, which was also removed by staff and taken away before picture. Also chair seemed very low and felt awkward sitting with my knees raised high under the table. Overall it was a nice experience, lovely decor.

I've visited the ivy on multiple occasions, it's never failed to be of a good standard. This occasion we were a walk in of 2 for breakfast, usual seating, coats taken and handed over to our waiter who was managing 6-8 tables with the aid of 2 runners and 2 bar staff. The food was good, I had the set menu which I'd give a 4/5, was a little greasyer than expected but still full of flavour and the cranberry ketchup was a big win. Only note was the waiter forgot to put our drinks order through when it was taken, so there was a delay on recieving anything and there was no check back on the food. Otherwise it was lovely as always, hopefully next time it will be back up to standard.

I planned to visit the Ivy for a pot of tea and maybe a sweet snack. I went in earlier than planned to ask about it, and was told it would only be available "at the bar". I left and thought, well OK maybe I'll go. After my other things planned, I went in and asked if they can find space for a little one at the bar, and the lady on reception was very welcoming. Took me through to the place on the right near the end of the bar (you see in their photo on this site). It had a little light at the bar too, so felt really special. There were 2-4 people behind the bar, all super welcoming and naturally friendly. Had a chat about tea, and opted for a pot of the Earl Grey. It came out on a tray with very smart silver (heavy) tea pot and silver (also weighty) jug. Plus some posh sugar cubes. It was all very civilased. I asked about cake, but while they didn't have that, they did have warmed mince pies with brandy cream. I asked if it was 'cooked off' as I was driving. I Was told it was. It all came out, very little ones, but clearly from the oven. The cream had what felt like a kick to it... concered me a bit. So I enjoyed the pies and a bit of the cream, with what looked like brandy around the side of it. I doubled checked after and was told it was about 5ml of cooked brandy. I asked if I could take home what was left. He returned, and 'chef' had served me a fresh pot of the cream with the candied peel on top. I mean, amazing. Really very special. If you just want a pot of tea in super nice surroundings, being welcolmed, rather than just a room like in john lewis which is noisey and a bit dull, I highly recommend it. Prices are on the website, but the pot of tea itself (made I think 3-4 cups) was £3.95 at the time. In my view, considering the surroundings, service and just feel of the place: worth it.

We booked to come to the Ivy for an early dinner, pre cinema. For 5pm on a Sunday we were impressed that the restaurant was fairly busy with a good atmosphere. A good start. The only issue with our experience was that we had specifically booked for the Sunday Supper menu, which was Flat Iron steak and chips and a glass of wine included. We were really looking forward to this as we love steak. On the online booking form it requests you select a multiple choice option of which menu you are going to order from, fine for us as we knew exactly what we were ordering, and therefore so did the restaurant. It was therefor very disappointing to be told that they only had one steak left after we had ordered. I would have expected that the restaurant would be aware of what diners had pre-booked the menu, and ensured that the correct number of dishes kept aside to ensure that the reservations were fulfilled, regardless of demand. This then involved several back and forths with having to review the menu again, which did put a slightly disrupted start to the evening. The waiters were very kind however in amending the order slightly so that was we received was closer to what we had originally wanted. Once all ordered, the food and service was excellent. Zucchini fries as a starter to share was a huge portion (maybe too big?) and the dipping sauce delicious. The mains we did receive were also delicious and well cooked and thoroughly enjoyed. Service from the several waiters/waitresses we received was efficient and friendly and at a good pace, not rushed but not left waiting. Overall, despite initial hiccups, the experience was very enjoyable. We particularly enjoyed the mix of festive and non-festive music being played. It was just the right balance for early december!

We had a pre-lunch drink at the bar which was fascinating to watch the bar tenders make their cocktails etc. We were then escorted upstairs to the separate dining room which was beautifully decorated and laid out. Our set menu was amazing. I had the chicken skewers which were very tasty and succulent. I can also highly recommend my main course - the shepherds pie. This was very tasty and rich and accompanied with a lovely tasting gravy. Overall, the restaurant was great and the waiter service by young Jack was an exemplar to customer service and attention to our needs to make our visit one to remember. Well done Jack!

I visited with my wife and ate Sunday lunch. The staff were friendly if a little rushed. The decor is fun but slightly faded, my chair had stains on the velvet for instance. Overall this place is style over substance and you pay a premium for it. The main problem is the food which was abysmal, my half roast chicken was one thigh and a breast and it felt like it was confit not roasted. The thigh was good but the breast was cardboard. The rest was under seasoned, bland and cold. Their idea of high cuisine is sprinkling some flaked almonds over cold runner beans. I had a glass of the ivy cuvee sparkling wine to drink with it and it tasted like fart juice with a yeast infection. Honestly if this place traded on the quality of their food alone it would be closed within a month. I will return only but only if forced to do so by a district judge. £78 for the privilege of writing this review. Avoid!

This place is beautiful. The food? Not so much. Service was lovely and the drinks were great but my husband ordered the Milanese which was dry and flavourless and I ordered the Sirloin which arrived overcooked. I like my steak rare and it came with very little pink on the inside - granted the staff had my steak changed but to be honest it was even a very good quality piece of meat - quite chewy and the fat was still raw. The mac and cheese was delightful though. Considering that the food is so expensive, I expected more from this place. Be warned, your mains are served alone - there are no accompaniments so the £30 steak, is just £30 for the meat. All sides sold separately- place is a rip off and the food does not match the price. Which is a shame in truth. I think people are blinded by the beauty and price so they pretend the food is good - or they have never eaten good food? Not sure to be honest but for spending £120 for two people I expect flavour and good quality cuts

Left feeling disappointed …… Had visited venue twice after booking a special occasion afternoon tea - everyone was helpful and was happy with arrangements. Told twice we would be seated upstairs as quieter - when arrived table was downstairs. Asked twice before and whilst sitting down to change a sandwich choice - this had not been done when brought to table - then waited 15 minutes after asking twice for replacement sandwich to arrive. Had to ask numerous times for some tea to drink with afternoon tea - the last reply was. “It’s coming!” Had chosen this over other afternoon teas venues but felt very let down on the day by service after being so pleased with help given previously!

Having previously thoroughly enjoyed a meal in the Oxford Ivy I was pleased to come across the Norwich version. It was an early bird experience...popping in to eat after having just arrived in the city. Summary: A meal mix-up re my husband's main...but resolved. Head waiter most apologetic and affable. The overall meal was thus enjoyed. My starter was delicious......however, my main chicken dish was hugely disappointing....stringy chicken, flabby skin and a few rather pink strands in the middle...very unappetising. I ate mainly the sauce & potato. Hence 2 stars for food. Waiter, (not head waiter) uncomfortably unconcerned, hence only 3 stars for service. It would have been lower if the head waiter hadn't saved the situation. Would not be keen to return...

Wednesday the 23rd of October. Three adults (one celebrating her 60th birthday), two children: one 4 year old and one 2 year old. We picked the Ivy because we could book a table on line for lunch and the Ivy's reputation…. Our first “en famille” restaurant experience with our two grandsons.. Would they eat?.. Would they remain comfortable throughout the meal?… No small amount of trepidation. On entering we were shown to our table (#31), where our “waiter” James took us in hand and made sure we had the necessary high chairs and had everything we needed. The restaurant was busy with lunch time patrons: (a good atmosphere). The Bloody Mary was a welcome elixir. We chose our meals from the good selection offered on the children’s menu, for the boys, and our first and main course from the a la carte. Timing was perfect as the children’s food was served with our “starter”, as requested. The chicken kebabs and my French onion soup were delicious. The boys astounded us all as they both cleared their plates..(it took a while). Sausage and mash and linguine respectively, while the burgers and my Shepherds pie were delicious. So summing up.. Excellent ambience and timing..”thank you James”. Excellent food, “thank you chef”…and an unforgettable family meal. We shall be back…

We visited today for an early dinner after a theatre matinee show. We chose the set 2 course menu. There was a choice from 3 starters, and 4 mains. For the starter we chose kiln-roast salmon rillette and a buffalo mozzarella and beetroot salad and they were both tasty. For the main I had pan fried chicken with spinach, mash, broad beans, potato puffs (well that’s what it said on the menu but I never noticed them) and a white wine sauce. My husband initially selected the shepherd’s pie but was told it came with no vegetables nor garnish so rather than pay an extra £4.95 for a portion of peas he changed his order to the crispy duck leg for an extra £4.95 which at least came with rice and broccoli. The food was ok but spoiled by the fact that it was served in a deep bowl, rather than on a plate. We found it very difficult to eat with a knife and fork from a deep bowl, having to position elbows at right angles almost. We mentioned this to the waiter who collected our dishes afterwards and he was aware of the clumsiness of eating the main course from a deep bowl and admitted that we weren’t the first to complain about this. I think it probably had something to do with the fact that the portions were quite small and so it looked better presented in a bowl rather than being a bit lost on a plate but it definitely wasn’t “user friendly” The drinks were quite pricey and a £7 something service charge was added to the final bill, which we left on and paid. The food was good but not amazing and if I returned, I would definitely ask for my main course to be served on a plate.

First impression was entirely positive - nice decor, buzzy atmosphere, good lighting, music at the right level. But our waiter was in a hurry and was a little impatient when I hesitated over choice of starters. Olives came quickly, but no bread. Then bread came followed very quickly by the main courses - which came so quickly that they cannot have been freshly prepared. My wife's main needed a side - veg or salad - but the waiter did not suggest this. We could not finish the bread as the mains arrived so soon. We were helpfully asked if we wanted to take the bread home - but disappointingly we were given a plastic box - cardboard would have been preferred. We ordered wine which the waiter removed from our table - fine if he was going to keep an eye on us. But too often my glass was empty and I had to wave to get it filled again. A 12.5% service charge was added to the bill. I would have tipped but would like to have had the choice. Food, beer and wine were good. It was OK but for the price there are many more interesting restaurants in Norwich

I recently went there twice while I stayed in Norwich, the first time was with my partner for a romantic evening meal. It was really busy and noisy, and the waitress forgot my chips (I ended up not saying anything which is my own fault) but the food was pretty good and the service very friendly. The place is decorated really well, very quirky and unique with a lovely atmosphere, full of people celebrating which is lovely. The second time I went back with my children (19 and 11) during the day for lunch. It seemed just as busy which shows how popular it is. I had a roast dinner which really wasn't worth it - there are far better ones out there but everything else my family ordered was lovely. My daughters pancakes were delicious. Another lovely evening but please don’t serve warm flat champagne, check it before sending to the table. Very professional and friendly service.

We actually booked in for a Cream Tea as had been given a voucher but decided to make a kind of lunch with it so had a tomato soup each and some delicious sourdough bread! 2 cocktails as a treat too which were so nice! The Cream Tea was presented beautifully although didn't appreciate you got 3 scones! Managed to eat them all, just! Beautifully presented, amazing taste and wonderful surroundings. Service was a little on the slow side but nothing to really complain about. Wonderful! Will be back.

Wonderful food as at all Ivy branches. Toilets were dirty , lots of tissue and toilet paper on the floor , bins overflowing and generally grubby. The restaurant was not up to the usual standard of cleanliness, empty bottles and glasses not cleared from the table despite having been empty for 30 mins and on the next drink ! Prefer the Cambridge branch .

The Ivy Norwich offers a sophisticated dining experience with beautifully designed interiors and a varied menu that combines classic British dishes with modern twists. The service was reasonable though busy when I visited, and the ambiance is elegant yet relaxed, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a leisurely meal in the heart of Norwich.

Absolutely wonderful experience. I would definitely recommend. Very fairly priced for stunning food, flavours and service. We booked a table for our anniversary but got their about half an hour early and they could not have been more accommodatiing. Front of house Jordan was amazing, his attention to detail was awesome. Jordan new everything about the menu, what went well with others and he knew the history of The Ivy as well. We would go back not only for the food but for Jordan's exemplary service. Decor is superb and real plants...not horrible plastic ones. Toilets are so clean...and real loo roll to boot!. Wonderful food, service and we will definitely be returning.

Went for a birthday lunch, was such good food I ate the fish and chips the fish was so fresh and the batter light and crispy, the chips where chunky and light and fluffy and crisp, it came with mushy peas, I don't like them but was offered peas instead I declined. I then had the chocolate bomb with hot caramel sauce for desert, this was so delicious and melted to reveal a honey centre fille with ice cream it was sat on a foamy creamy stuff, it was out of this world, the staff where so helpful and polite will definitely be back there was a lo Ely atmosphere, definitely book well in advance

Went to the Ivy for my dad's birthday meal and the food was spot on. I had the Sterlon stake with a side of chips and has squid for starters. All 5 parties enjoyed there meal and service was spot on. I would say the food is quite pricy and was shock to find its was £25 for just a stake and a small amount of greenery. I do think they needed another option for soft drinks other than Coke but did enjoy my mango and passion fruit coolers. They had larger but no beer but dad has wine instead. Although the place was nice it was very clearly over priced as a 5 person meal was over £300. I would go again but no rush basted on price but maybe good for a occasion or celebration.

Felt ignored all night, dined at Delias on many occasions as a couple and as family, but last night I’m sorry to say was not a joy! Booked for 2 birthday celebrations 24th & 18th it was nice to have cards signed by Delia on the table but that was where the special night after that went down hill. Lots of staff running around and looking after other tables , but we seemed to be forgotten , no bread was offered until we eventually asked for it after we had our starters we had to poor our own water and wines, not what you expect from Delias , Michelle the restaurant manager spoke with every table other than ours which I personally found very rude and odd Sorry but I would not rush to return, it’s an hour drive to get to Norwich for us so we expect to be treated properly £450 wasted !!!!
