We visited to celebrate my birthday. We thought the service was very slow and also noticed they were using us for training by the looks because instead of just serving our food as it came there was a group of employees holding our food just behind us and one was telling another who was holding the dishes what they were called. We felt like second class at that point. While eating my starter i became aware of a foreign body. I then spat out a finger nail. I am not here to discuss compensation but rather how it was handled. It has had a bad effect on me and we did not receive anything in writing. I was prompted to write this review because I found a foreign body in a Ginsters Pasty recently and realised how paranoid I have become about it. On this occasion it was a small piece of soft chicken Cartledge. Basically normal! However I received a written apology all my money back and more and results of an investigation for a £2 pasty! I got no such service from this restaurant apart from nobody here today has nails like that! If you are not well heeled and very rich dont go here Yuck

I never leave reviews, but on this occasion feel duty-bound to do so. Last night as a group of four couples we had an evening meal at the Ivy, Harrogate. There was little to commend the experience. First, we waited at the Bar to be served. Having not been served for a quarter of an hour, other friends having then arrived, we went to our table. Half an hour after being seated they had not even taken our drinks order. When they did, it took another twenty minutes to arrive. I chose the tempura squid for my starter. The quid itself was fine but the batter was over-seasoned - the garlic mayonnaise dip didn't work - it needed tartness to cut through the fried squid. It didn't work well. Not sure why it was served in a napkin either. I thought I just made a bad choice. In fairness, the smoked salmon that my wife had looked much better - she said it was good - that said it doesn't take any skill to lay out four pieces of smoked salmon on a plate. For my main I ordered a rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce. It seemed a safe option and at more than £36 you expect it to be done perfectly. I ordered medium-rare. When the food eventually came, not all our table were served at the same time and so we waited about five minutes until we were all ready to start our second course. My steak was brown throughout and significantly overcooked. It was also by now cold. I took one cut and sent it back. This time, my new steak was returned very quickly...too quickly as it turned out, because it was now at the other extreme - seared on the outside and completely blue raw on the inside. It was practically running off the plate and inedible. I gave up and just ate the chips. While they removed the cost of my steak from the bill, my meal out had been ruined - I was still hungry and I'd had to complain in company with a bunch of friends, which is always awkward. Unfortunately, the Ivy's attempt to expand their reach outside their flagship London restaurant, is in my view is a culinary failure. We are spoilt for choice with great restaurants in North Yorkshire. The Ivy, Harrogate is not one of them and I won't be going back. It's massively overpriced and they can't even get a steak right.

The restaurant is beautiful for sure and the staff as always were faultless. My girlfriend is coeliac and when we've eaten here previously she had several options to choose from; however, the dishes that she'd enjoyed previously (that are still on the menu) are now classed as unsuitable for coeliacs?? It was disappointing, to say the least, and it is now questionable whether we will visit The Ivy in the future. As a further point, the waitress did initially say she could have one of the dishes which she ordered (that shes eaten on previous visits) only to be informed a few minutes later that she cannot as its not suitable for coeliacs.

A very busy restaurant with a good atmosphere. As a couple we booked our table for 19:15 and we were soon led to our table near the hub. After nearly 10 minutes sitting a waitress came to the table to take our food and drinks orders. Then a long time later after two adjacent tables had their food and drinks served. Our orders still had not arrived. So, I went to the hub and asked can we at least please have our White wine. This was done immediately and a different waitress came to the table with a menu, to say that the Sea Bass I had ordered was not available. So, I went for the Salmon filet option with an additional side dish of mashed potatoes. My starter eventually arrived and was very tasty however, our wine glasses were both now empty and nobody was providing any table service. So, I again went further into the main restaurant and approached a waiter to request a top up, he actually followed me and done the simple task. When our two mains did arrive the green beans and broccoli dish were barely warm. So, I went up to the hub and these dishes were all removed and when they again returned this specific dish was a lot warmer. We ate our mains and again our wine glasses were empty. So, after another wait and nobody coming to clear the table or ask if we wanted a sweet dish. I again went to the hub and asked if we could have the sweet menu and order another bottle of wine. A couple on an adjacent table said they witnessed a nearby table sending a steak dish back. The whole lack of table service was incredibly disappointing and as we live in Durham, I booked an overnight hotel stay to compliment my wife’s birthday present from our son that was an Ivy restaurant voucher. We will not be in a hurry to return here again.

We were only in Harrogate for a brief visit and after seeing the ridiculous queues for Betty’s as we envisaged having an overpriced coffee and scone, we decided to try The Ivy next door. The girl on reception was very pleasant as were all of the staff and I ordered scrambled egg with salmon and my wife ordered a full English. Our order was quickly placed on our table and staff were always on hand to check if everything was OK…which it was. I accept that these items are not culinary challenging, but both dishes were well prepared and reasonably priced. The whole experience was very enjoyable and we both agreed that we will return on our next visit to Harrogate.

I live in central London and therefore use the original Ivy in Covent Garden a fair bit. I’ve always avoided their numerous mini Ivy Brasseries as it seems like a mainstream option. However, I was recently in Harrogate so booked in at the Ivy. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The menu was pretty similar to the Original but a lot more accessible regarding price. Beef tartare starter was excellent. Room was decorated in a very jolly but classy way. All staff were really friendly and enthusiastic throughout. I would have thought this would be the best place to eat in Harrogate Town Centre.

We had such a wonderful experience from start to finish at the restaurant. Our waitress was a lovely lady called Molly who is an absolute credit to the company. She was attentive and went out of her way to make us comfortable. The food was fantastic and Molly through taking the time to talk to us found we were there for my birthday and at the end of our meal brought me a pudding with a candle and happy birthday message! Brilliant!Thank you Molly ☺️

A lunch menu that contains Shepherds Pie in MAINS that's tiny is unacceptable in a5* restaurant. I'm not the first person to comment on the tiny portions. A complaint to my server was ignored and i was offered no apology or rebate. When I came to settle the bill I again made my unhappiness and was offered no apology or discount. Eventually I told him to remove the 10% service charge. Very very disappointing. Mean portions poor service and tables far too crunched together. I'll certainly not rush back. There is tons of competition and The Ivy will fail if they continue to disappoint. What a lost opportunity. Harrogate is a 5* destination and The Ivy is s nowhere near 5 *. Expensive cocky and Betty's are 50 x better. As is Cote Brasserie and many other restaurants.

We were celebrating a special occasion and chose The Ivy. We were made to feel so welcome and were invited to pre lunch drinks at the bar before being shown to our table. The hosts/hostesses were all charming and engaging especially the Sommelier from Hungary (I’m sorry I forgot his name!) The food was excellent as were the complimentary glasses of champagne which were a very welcome surprise as was the birthday cake ! The pace of the meal was perfect and we never felt rushed. We just took our time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience! In this day and age when people are so quick to criticise, we cannot praise The Ivy enough. Well done guys, we had a blast and will, without doubt, be back! Thank you

Our visit was spoilt by having to have an argument with our waiter who would not allow us to swap breakfast items for toast. My bacon was just cooked, pallid and fatty ... streaky bacon needs to be reasonably well done and crispy. The waiter did bring some more bacon which was more cooked than the stuff on the plate. All in all it was OK but not as nice as The Ivy in York.

My wife and I met her family here for a late lunch having booked a table outside, as it is not legal for multiple households to meet indoors in tier 2. The hostess denied our reservation had been made outside and insisted we sit inside as it was busy outside. We informed them we were two households and this was not legal. We eventually managed to move to an outside table, and I use the term ‘outside’ loosely. The outside area is completely enclosed on four sides and had a full fabric ‘roof’ with about 20 infrared heaters and multiple fires lit. Whilst it is a very pleasant area, it is not ‘outdoors’. Also, because the area is oversubscribed due to people attempting to follow the law, the tables are far too close together, and literally no-one is able to maintain a safe distance. My chair was touching that of the man behind, meaning I was sitting no more than half a meter from him.Inside, things were laughable. The place was full of tables of people who clearly are not allowed to meet socially in an indoor setting. On dates, ladies’ lunches, family reunions... In tier two, the only place multiple households are allowed to meet socially, regardless of substantial meals etc, is outdoors!! Someone needs to tell this to The Ivy.As for staff distancing from one another - absolutely non existent. The meal was nice but with loads of errors: warm white wine, undercooked shellfish, forgotten coffee. I don’t really care about the errors, as I understand things are more difficult at present and people are generally doing their best, but the issue of covid safety at The Ivy is really dangerous and needs to be addressed. Lastly, this wasn’t our only experience of The Ivy’s ‘relaxed’ attitude to Covid safety. Two weeks earlier, when asking to book a table outside, we were told they were full outside. The hostess on the phone then said: “Oh, if we say it’s a business meeting then it’s fine and you can sit inside.”Our visit was in no way a business meeting, and the hostess was encouraging us to break the law in order to have lunch at their venue. Needless to say, we cancelled the reservation. I understand The Ivy have overheads and need to get customers on seats in order to make a profit, but my experience was of a business that doesn’t particularly care about the law or the welfare of its customers and is doing the bare minimum to comply. Not impressed and we won’t be returning.

Very disappointing food ?I love a twice baked cheese soufflé- this was average at best - flat , minimally cheesy with just cream sauce. My main was veal ribeye - I requested medium rare - but this was poached and chewy with gloopy aligot and a few chopped toms. Loved the decor building and ambience. My son said previously the food had been much better. As a prev regular to the original Ivy I was let down.

Visited today for pre-booked lunch. In my opinion their were two many people in the restaurant with customers and staff regularly criss crossing and not keeping spacing according to requirements. Our table was certainly less than 2 metres from the adjoining one. The service was not particularly good with waitress taking wrong order from me of drink and main course. The prices are fine dining when taking into account vegetables and sides being extra but the experience is far from fine dining. Will not be returning until COVID is well and truly behind us.

We visited in December. Very covid safe - took temperature on arrival and seats were a good distance apart. Lovely Christmas decorations. Staff were very friendly and attentive and made us feel special, particularly the lovely Hannah.I had a full English breakfast, which at £13.75 was a little steep. The bacon was awful, streaky and chewy. The sausages were also unimpressive. The rest of it wasn't bad (fried eggs, mushroom, beans, black pudding and tomato). The granary toast was lovely. My daughter had Eggs Benedict and said they were delicious and at £8.75 much more reasonably priced.Beware that there is a discretionary service charge added to the bill and this goes to the company, not the staff which I think is very unfair.

Attended the Harrogate site of The Ivy this evening for my wife’s birthday, hoping for a nice meal and a few drinks to celebrate Table booked for 7.45pm, arrived slightly before and were seated at the bar by a pleasant lady where we ordered a cocktail and glass of wine.We were then seated shortly after where we finished our original drink. Food was ordered, which arrived quickly and was nice. Red headed waitress observed out empty glasses while offering the table next to us further drinks. Food was finished and plates taken by male waiter. Red headed waitress again looked straight at us, before again offering the table next to us more drinks. Started to get rather irked by this. We were handed the dessert menu, tried to get attention to order drinks. We sat there for 15 minutes, again the red headed waitress looked at our glasses and ignored us. We decided at this point to leave due to no one taking our dessert order. Paid the bill and explained we were disappointed, waiter apologised but no more, we could then hear him talking about us to who I assume was a manager, but they didn’t bother to approach us or offer apologies. We left, leaving our original empty glasses, which was sad as we’d become quite attached, and spoke to the man by the door, who, when we explained what has happened said ‘we thank you for your feedback’ and basically ushered us out of the door. I’m sorry but that is such an arrogant response I was taken aback. I will not be returning

We’ve been here a couple of times before and had mixed memories, but decided to give it another go last night.I wish we hadn’t. There was a sense of being processed through quickly, and the food was average. My sirloin in particular was poor. The bill for our family of 4 was £195 (no wine) and included a 12.5% service charge. We were in and out in 1hr 45. For these prices the food needs to be top quality...it really wasn’t.I left with the feeling of having been ripped off and wished we’d given our business somewhere else.

We visited after a full day out in cold December (well wrapped up, so wasn't wearing a suit and dicky bow as I think they expected) and asked for a table for two. He told us no and just smiled. I asked when the next available table was and after a minute or two of flicking through his screen and realising we weren't leaving that easy, he said "oh someones just cancelled, have a seat there" so we sat in the cloak room/waiting room at a table. We got asked for a drink so we presumed we must have been waiting for our table which was no problem as we didn't book. We got our £10 glasses of under average wine and they asked if we wanted some table water, don't get it, it's £4. Any need really? And then he came and took our food order. We give our order and realised that actually we weren't waiting for a table inside the restaurant, they had actually sat us in the waiting area to eat. Absolutely disgraceful. A £100+ bill to be sat in the cold eating rubbish overpriced food! And had the cheek to automatically add a 12.5% charge for out terrible experience.

We booked brunch for my partners 50th birthday.Staff were polite but almost robotic. Any deviation or requests that differed from the menu had to be passed by management and each time was a ‘no’ . Even trying to plea, in this case I wanted some granola with the fruit and yogurt, so nothing they even had to cook and was a standard ingredient on the breakfast menu, was a no! The couple next to us even commented that they had requested something and were told they couldn’t swap either. On hindsight we should have booked for earlier to have the breakfast menu as brunch is really lunch with chips and burgers etc.Left feeling disappointed and deflated. Wish I had read the other reviews as the 12.5% Service Charge came out of the blue and I had thought this practice was a thing of the past. The Restaurant itself is well decorated and the staff well dressed but this doesn't mean that they are fully compertant in the hospitality trade. Arrived at the restaurant and had a nice welcome and a reasuring temperature test before being shown to our table. A evening visit which meant a dimly lit room making it very hard to read the menu. Maybe a offday for the staff but the service was not as we had hoped, our request for cold water as in tap water put in a fridge resulted in a £4 still water being supplied. The price of wine is really high and the bottle of Merlot at £33 was no better than a Sainsbury £8.99 . As for the pouring of this wine it resulted in a large puddle of about £3 in value. To continue the first course was soup and cold and was not even consumme and the second course came with a added charge which we found online later when we enlarged the menu online. The dessert was Sticky Toffee pudding and is certainly a massed produced product that is certainly not a scratch on the Co-Op's Truly Irresistibly Brand. Overall if you wish to squander good money on sitting in a nicely decorated dimly lit room and feel you've had reasonable food at a vastly expensive price then the IVY is for you. For Us a totally waste of money which left a bad taste in our mouth or maybe that was the food!!.

Enjoyed the meal and the ambience but was astonished by staff attitude at end of meal. As we finished our meal a lady at the next table slumped forward and appeared to be unconscious. Fortunately a male nurse left his table to attend to her. An ambulance was called and through the sterling efforts of the nurse and her distraught family she appeared to slightly recover. The paramedics appeared and astonishingly whilst they were treating her, staff started to clear the table! As soon as she was taken to the ambulance the table was cleared and prepared for the next diners. When I paid my bill, I said it was inappropriate that the table should be cleared whilst people were in a distressed state. I didn’t get any acknowledgement from the waitress. Appalling attitude. The plus points as usual are very friendly staff, COVID-19 meet and greet was good, maitre'd , wine service and table service all very good, sadly let down by the food. Starters were average as were the main course and a shared sweet. The food was served too fast and despite asking for longer time between courses the food appeared almost in seconds of the plates being removed. Once again style over substance, and they live off the name rather than quality of food.

Having dined at both the Leeds and Kensington brasseries we booked The Ivy, Harrogate for a birthday lunch to celebrate, in style, our mums 80th birthday. Upon being seated I mentioned to our waiter the occasion asking if there was anything subtle and low key he could do. Absolutely he said leave it with me. Unfortunately nothing happened apart from haphazard service ( starters & mains were mixed up, dishes missed & a lengthy gap of 35 minutes between courses ) and a drink order that never materialised. The food, when it came & was right, was delicious and this was the saving grace. The decor is absolutely stunning however two of our party started to feel cold the longer we stayed. All in all we felt very disappointed - my sister said she felt better looked after at the Kensington brasserie where she was made to feel special. I’m afraid this didn’t happen here , if anything we felt we were ignored. Perhaps there were more important people in ........we will never know - I will stick to Leeds in future. Note - I’m wondering if anyone from The Ivy actually reads these reviews as there are no replies regardless of whether the review is positive or negative. Surely reviews can be used as a tool to improve, share feedback and learn.

Four of us ate here for lunch and it was the day after Boris has made it mandatory to wear masks unless you're eating or drinking. On arrival there is a temperature check and the hostess asks that you put your mask on before being shown to the table. All the staff are wearing masks at all times. We had 3 courses and two drinks each and the bill came to £200. Every course for all four of us were great and very tasty. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The restaurant is nicely decorated and we found it to be a very pleasant atmosphere and setting. I would certainly come back and I would recommend The Ivy.

Four of us had an evening meal here on a busy Saturday and the service and food were exemplary. We were celebrating the husbands birthdays and the attentive waiter Antonio, made sure everything was perfect, and kept us entertained between courses with his quick wit and jovial banter. The other staff were also attentive cheerful and professional, helping to create a wonderful ambiance. The food and wine were excellent as was the decor and Covid provisions. And as such we had an evening we will remember fondly for a long time. The plan was to return for breakfast the next morning but sadly we were still full from the night before ... so will save that for our next visit. Thanks to all the staff for making our night perfect.

Visited Harrogate for a weekend break and wanted somewhere special to eat. Plenty of restaurants to choose from and The Ivy looked really nice and was competitively priced with a menu we liked. Fortunately they managed to squeeze us in the same evening on the terrace. Was a little sceptical to how warm it would be dining outside but having arrived we needn’t have worried! It was a beautiful green garden setting with heating under the canopies. You wouldn’t have known you were outside and there was a lovely mini fountain and open fire. We’re not very adventurous when it comes to food but the Butternut Risotto and Fish and Chips were delicious washed down with a good bottle of wine. The service from Klaudia was exceptional and honestly made our night feel really special. Thank you.

If you find yourself in Harrogate you HAVE to pay The Ivy a visit. We have just finished the most incredible evening here and after the most delicious 3 courses and cocktails, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The service this evening by Louise was excellent, the food was impeccable (in particular the starters) and the atmosphere was perfect. Thank you for an incredible evening! This is our first time visiting Harrogate and we will definitely be back

Stylish and beautifully decorated, this outpost of the burgeoning Ivy “brand” has fitted into Harrogate as if it has always been there, as opposed to being a relatively recent addition. Those people worried about standards falling in comparison to its illustrious London theatre land parent should rest easy. Visiting with an old friend who I’d not seen for nearly 40 years, and having booked online, a quick temperature check at the door, and we were shown to our table immediately. Extensive menu, immaculate service, food as described and beautifully cooked. An unhurried delightful lunch.

I have just visited the Ivy Harrogate for a birthday meal. Was super excited to go, having visited the Ivy Edinburgh many times and loving it, I was hoping for the same experience.Sadly it was not to be. The first course was a let down with very tepid soup and a very al dente tortellini. I had been looking forward to my main of Lobster tagliatelle but unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. All I could taste was tomato and the lobster didn't make much of an appearance sadly. If I had to find a positive in the meal the courgette fries were very nice. I think Harrogate has many fine restaurants but unfortunately I made the wrong choice for my birthday dining experience.

We visited the Ivy last night to celebrate my 30th birthday and what fabulous service we had. A quick temperature check on entering the restaurant and hand sanitiser available on each table (which smells delightful), we felt very safe throughout the meal. The food was great and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would like to give a huge thank you to Mark (manager) for making my birthday even more special with some extra treats to celebrate! We can’t wait to return again.

In Harrogate for a couple of days, we thought we'd try The Ivy. It was easy to book online, and after a quick temperature check we were shown to our table; very smart and comfortable. Drinks and food were ordered with the minimum of fuss, and starters arrived in good time. All very nice and well presented. Our main courses also arrived with perfect timing and were delicious. Not feeling adventurous, we had opted for a steak, and cod & chips. All very well cooked and well presented. I opted for a crème brûlée while Allison had a Hazelnut Alexander, which was by all accounts absolutely fantastic. The crème brûlée was also perfect; well presented and delicious.Service was exceptional throughout; there was someone there when needed, and vice versa. It all seemed effortless, which is just as it should be.The prices were higher than other restaurants in the town, but other restaurants weren't The Ivy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a civilised dining experience.

My partner and I had a wonderful time at The Ivy. The first time we’ve ever been to one and it didn’t let us down. Starters and desserts were outstanding. For appetisers we had the arancini balls and the zucchini frites followed by a starter which was the duck liver parfait and prawn and squid cocktail. Both of which were delicious. For mains we had the sirloin (rare) steak with mash, tenderstem broccoli and red wine gravy. The first one was sent back as it was overcooked to how I’d like it but the second one was perfect. My boyfriend had the hamburger (not pork ) with cheddar and pancetta which was delicious and meaty. If that wasn’t enough we then had the melting chocolate bombe which came on a bed of milk foam and this delicious caramel sauce. My boyfriend had the creme brûlée which was just as tasty. All of this was washed down with a bottle of house red. Oh and we ordered some truffles to take-away (it was a treat). All in all a lovely experience and one which we would both do again. Samantha was our server and she is a credit to The Ivy. We had a lovely conversation throughout the whole evening. Thanks again for such a memorable experience.

My 79 year old Mother ate here with her husband and two friends on bank holiday Monday; she hadn’t eaten anything else before going here, she had the poached salmon and at 3am the following morning started with food poisoning, she has been extremely ill and has been in bed for 6 days now, her friend called in during the week to complain and was told they’d look into it and be in touch, as yet no response, I never leave bad reviews but feel compelled to write this, it is absolutely disgusting that an establishment such as The Ivy could treat people in this way, very saddening indeed.

We are regulars at the Ivy in Harrogate and each time something seems to be wrong but we give them another chance. Four of us had breakfast on Monday morning and 3 of the meals had to be sent back! We ordered Avocado and poached eggs on toast x 2 - the toast was burnt on one side, the avocado was brown and very hard and the peached eggs were stone cold- what else could be wrong!!? The cheese and ham omelette had no cheese in, but the pancakes were good, although a little hard around the edges. We did speak to our lovely waitress about these issues and to be fair she deducted 3 meals from our bill. But, that isn't the point as we had come to what is a lovely restaurant to enjoy a breakfast out, not leave hungry and frustrated. It was as if our food had been left out to get cold and forgotten about, plus it was such a shame that a member of the management team could not have come and acknowledged our complaint and apologised or explained. Its really note so hard to get breakfast dishes right and this was just terrible and should never have been sent out of the kitchen.I hope somebody from the Ivy reads this review and comments back, but it seems in Harrogate they don't care? We also eat in other Ivy restaurants and never seem to have a problem.

The music when we arrived was light and you could easily hear each other unfortunately the Music changed and It became less easy to hear each other. Good place to people watch.

On a recent stay in the town we decided to make the most of the Government's Eat Out to Help Out policy and book a meal here. We were welcomed and after having our temperature checked promptly shown to our table. The food was lovely, tasty and filling, the service first rate and everything went really well until the bill arrived. On the bill we found that a £9.99 service charge had been added. Whilst I am more than happy to tip good service I believe that it is up to the customer not the management to decide how much it should be, plus I'm never convinced that it isn't just a ploy to boost profits and that the staff who actually earn it get to see more than a very small percentage. This is a real shame because without this charge this would have been a 5 star rating as it is we are determined that will never eat here again.

Booked 6pm on a Monday during the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. On arrival each of us was handed a selection of menus - A la Carte, We're Taking Part and Drinks. Great choice but online I had noted a Set Menu and reviewing what each of us was handed found this was missing. When we got to our table and I enquired about this it turned up immediately with apologies for the oversight. I have had this experience elsewhere and suspect this was deliberate, what I can never discern is why restaurants do this. Only one of our party went for that menu and really enjoyed their meal.Oversight should not be part of the Ivy experience, but next time in Harrogate will return as food was a joy.

Six of us had lunch at the Ivy today. It was obviously very busy for a Monday, possibly because of the government scheme for the month of August.Four of us had shepherds pie and three of us thought it was not hot enough. Also the vegetables that we ordered were just warm. The other two had fish and chips and chicken salad, which they enjoyed. Two of the group had the chocolate bomb afterwards which, whilst being very rich, was enjoyed. We all ordered soft drinks and these came with straws. We were observing the bar staff picking up the straws at the top of the straw which goes near the mouth. In these strange times, we think straws should be abandoned for the time being. We liked the vibe and despite our not so hot pies would probably return.

The service was shocking, the waiter made a point of making my friend extremely uncomfortable for wearing a more revealing, but classy, top. While being condescending all evening, because we were two young women in a restaurant. I’m never returning.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

I do not usually write reviews but I feel as though I have to after what I witnessed last night 28/11. After waiting 20-25 minutes for my food, I saw the fryer shouting at the gentleman on the Till area. I asked the young man if he was okay and I could tell he was getting upset. The chef was repeatedly shouting at him and telling him to go home and storming off and swearing at him whilst the gentleman did not respond and seemed to get upset. The worst part was that it was quite busy and the man on the till was obviously trying his hardest whilst the other gentleman working was seemingly walking around aimlessly, not helping, and doing nothing. I am disgusted by this, surely in this day and age abuse towards young staff should not be happening? After reading other reviews, I have seen that this is not the first time this has happened with the same Chef. Surely management has picked up on this? I was going to give the chef a piece of my mind but was concerned that it would only result in him shouting at the young gentleman further. I will not be returning when this man is working And I am advising friend and family to do the same.

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
