Cheungwon in Harrogate

Seems like when you order takeaway you get old food - greasy and soggy :( Disappointed and won’t order again (or visit the restaurant now either)

Went for a meal at 6.30 starters came quickly, time to order the main course, we ordered 3 meals and 2 extras, rice come first followed by noodles 5 mins later, 1st of the main meals came 10 mins later and that was it, we had ask where the rest was, 20mins later the next main meal came out and it wasn't ours. When they eventually got it right the rest of the meal was cold, the tables around us had to wait over 1 and a half.

WORST RESTAURANT IN HARROGATE - AVOID. Literally just left here after spending over 2 miserable hours! Service initially was really good (when there were only 3 other tables in). Our drinks and starters were ordered quickly and came in a decent amount of time. The mixed starter was really nice. Unfortunately, the more customers that came in, the worse it became. Our food had not arrived for well over an hour, so when we went to leave (along with two other tables who were as fed up as us), one of the staff said our food was literally ready now and basically begged us not to leave. We decided to stay under the promise the drinks would be free. The food arrived, but unfortunately we were all so fed up and tired by this point so we couldn't eat most of it. The food we did eat wasn't exactly the best, and one of the orders was wrong (we received satay skewers instead of actual satay chicken as a main). This place has completely ruined our Friday evening. No apology or explanation given other than "It's a busy night" - Most Fridays are busy, so staff it accordingly!! Will not be returning.

Very average food. The hot and sour soup was way too sweet.

Although the food was nice enough the service and time taken for meals to be brought out was unacceptable. Each element of the meal was brought out separately meaning we couldn’t have the sides with the mains. Unfortunately after 1hr 40 mins we were still waiting for some of the food to come out and had to leave for an event.

The food was really nice, unfortunately the day after my partner and I are suffering from food poisoning. The service was extremely good but the restaurant was empty so unsure of what it would be like when busier.

Have been Cheungwon for few times. Food and service are amazing and value for money

Order at 20.20 and it now 21.40 still not turned up and rung up at 21.00 to find out what's going on they say it will be 15 minutes the customer service is shocking I really suggest never ordering from here if you want a good takeaway not happy at all with this service they provide

The food was very very tasty and the service was excellent. Decor a little dated but the food is excellent.

Small restaurant in Harrogate mainly serving all you can eat, very nice fresh food, cooked to order. Only Cobra beer on tap, but a small negative compared to the service and quality of the food.

Lovely food - great value / get in there - don’t be greedy. I had exceptional Prawns in Ginger.

Food was nice, service was fine. Sat by the bay windows on a cold night was cold. Price was reasonable for all you can eat A La carte. Loud table of lads - were not particularly rowdy to be fair just a bit noisy and giddy which I cba with but was alright.

All in all a good experience. Service was very good and quick despite them being very busy. The food is cooked to order and all came out piping hot. Good value for money and would return.

Food superb as ever,excellent service

My partner and I are just back from this fabulous restaurant. It was one of the most delicious chinese meals we've had for a long time. It's a buffet style restaurant but the chef cooks your meals fresh to order. You wait a bit longer for the chef to prepare your order but it's well worth the wait. We ordered two hot & sour soups, salt & pepper chicken wings, and Peking style ribs for starter. They were all phenomenally delicious! And because the chef cooks your meals to order, they come out to your table hot (temperature-wise). The main dishes were equally delicious - szechaun chicken, crispy chicken in Thai sweet chilli sauce, and king prawn (I mean "KING" prawns) with ginger & spring onions. I highly recommend this reataurant for anyone living in or visiting Harrogate.

Never order for delivery! Have eaten here in the past so know the food to be good. Ordered for delivery, food was 45mins late on delivery time. Rang them when it was 30 mins late, no apology, also no apology when it finally arrived. No surprises it was cold.

Just had a lovely tasty meal here, would come again.

Clean place they are not on top of you food is lovely hot well served it should be packed out as it's great value only a small number of customers ever in there that would up the atmosphere ,you choose of a menu as meany items and you can eat your fill ,we whent Sunday night had two large cokes and all the food we wonted for £39.50

Buffet style eat all you can great food all are really tasty. Service was top as well the owner and the waiters were all very friendly.

Awesome buffet food. It's changed since I last visited and you now order as much as you want from a menu with plenty of choice. Excellent and decently priced.

Food fresh. A little thin on staff but friendly & helpful

Great, only issue was a mad couple that dined and dashed having a row with each other. The staff were really polite and tried to please everyone, brilliant.

Not any atmosphere we thought it was a buffet you served yourself ended up with an all round platter which we ate but not great very disappointed with our meal out Michael our waiter was great the only positive thing

Ordered afew sides and some meat and fish dishes, the fish was for myself as I don't eat meat. They moaned that it was too many dishes to be brought out at once, I explained I didn't eat meat. They said they would bring some of the dishes out at a time. They only brought the meat ones. Due to time I ended up only having afew noodles and chips. Waste of money, not really a buffet.

Was staying in Harrogate for one night and needed somewhere to eat,was told about cheung won by some local girls and wow food was amazing service was very good 10/10 , would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant again 10/10

Centrally located. Chinese buffet with a difference. Table service. From a menu you choose starters, as many as you like. The starter portions are small but tasty. You are invited to choose two mains with sides, again from the menu. These are good portions. You can follow this with more mains or sides, eat until full. The food is cooked to order, comes up hot and the pork is tasty. You can also ask for food not on menu, eg chow mein and this can be accommodated. Unfortunately, only two hard working servers on a busy, popular mid week day. Service is slow so be prepared. Was £16.95 pp.

Paid bill of 50£ for two persons. It's says all you can eat. Been for 2h. Had one starter and two meals. Been waiting for ages. Of course it's was hot and fresh. But it not worth to wait 2h. For two meals and pay 50££

Wide variety of choices, great food and service was excellent.

If you want to try different dishes this is good place to go. Been there twice, each time ate too much (my fault). Nice choice Staff is helpful

I could not commend this Chinese restaurant enough for the excellent service they provided me and my whole family. The staff were amazing! Very good service and the food were all delicious! I celebrated my birthday here, they let us bring our own cake and provided us with their own plate and cutlery. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Ordered a takeaway with just eat at 17.40pm. Received a text at 18.50 & 19.02 saying our takeaway was delayed. 1 hour later still no takeaway Rang Cheungwon at 20.10 and was told that there was a delay and we would have our food in 5 mins!! Finally at 20.20 it arrived 2hrs & 40mins later. Let's see what the food is like, then I'll send this review. I'll stick with the one star as food was cold, greasy and dried up!!

I've always loved this place. The all you can eat buffet is definitely better value than the all you can eat a la carte but the food is always so very tasty.

The Beef ain't great to me personally. I be Truthful. But the Chicken, Rice, noodles and ribs Wass Excellent. Friendly and Polite Staff. Its a Order to table buffet. Great idea.

Orderd from Deliveroo bank holiday weekend (Saturday about 8). Came quickly. Duck pancakes came with lots of extras and were juicy. Chicken Cantonese style with egg fried was also very good. Will be ordering again

Really nice family meal. Reasonably sized portion, not huge but good if you want to try more items on the menu. All the food was hot and tasty and the staff were great.

Food is cooked to order. the king prawns were spot on, Everything was spot on, everything was hot quick and tasted as good as it possible could. i would 100% go back.

Came in with a friend and we both enjoyed it very much, the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly, food was made very quickly and was very enjoyable. The atmosphere was welcoming and my friend says that even the toilets were lovely. Will definitely be coming back

Very spicy food sadly slow service

Food was really good. Service was awsome. This is buffet style but they cook to order. So food comes out hot. Plenty of choices to pick. Pick 1,2, all. What ever you can eat. I will definitely be back.

Menu a bit confusing at first, but order as much as you want, food well presented and served freshly cooked.

Don't let the basic and dated surroundings fool you, we ate here Friday night 1/10/21 because we had driven up from Essex and just needed something cheap to eat, food is all you can eat but ordered Al la Carte, cooked fresh to order and some of the best chinese food we have had in a long time, better than any buffet we have ever had, incredible value, you must try the hot & sour soup!

Just eaten in Cheungwon fantastic food . Great staff if you are visiting Harrogate give it a try don't think you will be dissapointed

Why lie about the delivery time & progress? Phoned twice and each time the order was on its way …. arrived 40 min after 1st call (only live about 1 mile away) and 1:45hr after placing the order (estimate was 20 min). Food was tasty enough however the joy of having a take-away was lost though!

Fantastic food but very slow service, There were only for tables occupied and and it still took ages for our food to arrive.

Have been here 3 times now and always had lovely food. Because of covid it is still all you can eat but cooked to order. This makes it even better as the food is freshly cooked for you. Great service as well and great value would highly recommend if in the area

Me and my wife decided to go here for our 1 year anniversary and we were generally disappointed with the speed of service, so all we can suggest with it not being a help yourself buffet service at the moment, don't go there if your starving, make sure you eat quite a bit before you go there, once we eventually got the food, the food was good though.

Lovely food, all cooked to order, all you can eat starters, mains and desserts, went with my hubby, food was piping hot, tasted delicious, staff could not do enough for you definitely recommend.

Came here late and without a booking. Not an issue. Didn't realise it was an "all you can eat" style menu. In past experience this doesn't bode well... I couldn't have been more wrong. Lovely staff and the food was absolutely excellent. Chicken satay was perfect and the hot and sour soup was the best I've ever had. It was spicy and had all the right ingredients. Many thanks to the chef for keeping the food authentic, hot and tasty! Every dish was perfect. The thing I liked the most was the dishes that stated "hot" on the menu were just that! I do hope I get to come back here. 👌

If you want good food on time don't order at this take away. We ordered our food over an hour ago with a delivery time (At the latest 20.15) Almost 9 pm and still no confirmation of delivery ? Useless. Use someone else is my advise.

We spend 105 (a little more than 30 per person!) but the price is not comparable to the food or either the service at all . In conclusion the whole experience wasnt good, I would never go again to this place for any reason and I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone

Wonderful service and great food

The worst customer service ever! I complaint to the manager about some of the food are just too salty (spring roll and the chow mein) ! They telling me this is the standard of a all you can eat Buffett and asking why will I expect good quality in all you can eat Buffett ! That’s just weird and make no sense ! Definitely won’t go again

I am a Chinese student in harrogate and this is the worst Chinese I had in this town . Don’t recommend to try . But the only positive thing is that’s cheap

The starters are buffet but then you order your mains and then if you feel you'd like more you can reorder which we didn't as we were full, the food was good the staff were very friendly, not overly expensive either.

On holiday and I can say it's worth a visit..one of the best Chinese meals I have had in years..they don't leave you short changed..it is all you can eat and piping hot.. recommend

I love this place, you can eat as much as you like and the food is really yummy.

Had a really horrible experience at this so called buffet, ordered my food from the kitchen however I left some and asked for a doggie bag they refused to give me one and started arguing with me saying it’s not available for buffet but the food came from the kitchen then the rude staff said yea it’s £5 extra. I already paid for the food and I refused to pay £5 because it’s wrong and the ladies was rolling their eyes and being rude with me. The buffet was pathetic no body was even eating in the restaurant and the waiters was rude and disgusting would not recommend at all.

Cracking food but overcharged on drinks..check your bill.

Family meal for 6 people...3 were ill...the food is lukewarm at best and absolutely definitely reheated from the lunchtime/previous evening..do yourself a favour and go to McDonald’s

Amazing food and great service. Staff were very smiley and even though it's all you can eat after the starters it is all brought to the table for you.

Wow not had a great Chinese in ages. 3 adults and 2 children went for evening buffet. staff were fantastic and the food was fresh really tasty. starters are all served as a buffet but the mains are cooked fresh to order.

First time been here. delicious food and very reasonable price. you can't deny it. For me, I walked from Leeds to Haragate today so after searching around the city centre. this restaurant became my angel.

Friendly and relaxed place to have a meal at. Staff always ensures that your dirty plates are off the table quickly to get you going for another one. There is no selection of prawns, however you can find some by trying out their special rice dish
